Getting to Gillette Stadium

It’s just after one o’clock here in Boston. The game starts at 8:30 Eastern Time.

My dad and I are leaving at 3 o’clock. It gets really congested the closer you get to Gillette Stadium. The people at our hotel are advising us to leave really early.

The 49er fans we met last night from Halifax, Nova Scotia are leaving an hour before us. Scott Ostler is meeting us at 3 o’clock Eastern in the lobby of our hotel to drive out with us.

I have shotgun.

I had a hard boil egg today for breakfast, this sounds like a FB post . lol

    • Crab15 says:

I woke up this morning and I got myself a bee-er!

      • Neal says:

        LOL at Crabby
Yeah, keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Yeah, we’re goin’ to the Roadhouse
        We’re gonna have a real
        Good time

      • Crab15 says:

Neal – You are fired up…..What was in that coffee?
Niner D shows NFL and the chowder heads who has top defense.

      • Neal says:

        Crab,

hahah chowerhead. Green Mountain coffee( ( Dark Magic)) love my keurig, my favorite toy. Our D will be up for the challeng.

  2. Sycophantick Romantick says:

You’d better leave at 2pm if you don’t want to be scrambling!

  3. msclemons67 says:

Is Ostler as funny in person as he is in writing?

    • Grant Cohn says:

Yes, and he’s really good friends with the Cohn Zohn.

      • Crab15 says:

Grant – Did you bring ear muffs? :) Enjoy the game!

      • Grant Cohn says:

I’m layered, but I got no gloves or ear muffs. I’m glad I live in California.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Grant
No scarf or mittens? You shoulda checked out what I posted the other day on what to wear to a snow game.
        Quiz:
Anyone out there remember what “Idiot Mittens” are?
Hint: It’s a trick question. If you’re old enough to remember, your memory might suck!

      • Ribico says:

Grant, there an Eastern Mountain Sports in Patriot Place. They will fix you up. Hey, aren’t you in the press box? I’m sure it’ll be toasty in there.

      • Grant Cohn says:

Yeah, the New England press box is warm. It’s the New Orleans press box where you need a parka and mittens. The air conditioning for the entire dome is right behind you and hits you in the head.

Where are you going to be sitting? Are you properly prepared for the cold?

      • Brotha Tuna says:

2nd Hint: Bill Cosby made the term known in a stand-up routine in the 60s.

      • Ribico says:

Oh yeah… Many layers tech undershirt. Niners sweatshirt over. Parka over that. Waterproof shell over that. Polar tech hood, gloves. Wife and i are all set. Seats Are in section 131, right behind Niners bench, row 10.

  4. Ribico says:

Grant, Patriot fans are not *that* rowdy.

Oops I read that as I have *a* shotgun.

  5. Razoreater says:

Did you shave with a gillette this morning Grant?

  6. Grant Cohn says:

Joe Flacco is not adequate. He just threw a pick-6 in the red zone.

That was probably Cam Cameron’s fault.

  7. msclemons67 says:

Tannehill just ran a play straight out of the 1980′s 49ers playbook. Roll out right, hit the fullback that leaked out for a TD.

  8. Grant Cohn says:

Leslie Frazier is outcoaching Jeff Fisher today, something Jim Harbaugh has not done.

  9. Grant Cohn says:

The Ravens should sign Alex Smith this offseason. He’d be an upgrade for Baltimore.

    • msclemons67 says:

The Ravens have a deep ball offense. Not sure about that.

But at least Alex would hand the ball to Rice really well.

      • Grant Cohn says:

It seems to me they have no offense.

      • MidWestNiner says:

How well is that deep ball offense working out for them? And if they signed Smith, that might give them ample room with their salary cap in order to upgrade the defense.

      • msclemons67 says:

MidWest, the Ravens would have to overhaul their offense completely to work around Smith’s limitations.

Flacco isn’t the greatest but he fits their current offense better than Smith.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

IMO the Ravens will not make a QB change for 2013; too invested. Besides, I don’t think Alex would be fond of committing to another Harbaugh.
For his health & safety, AS better hope he doesn’t go to Az or Oakland; no blocking. Jets not a good fit. Maybe Jax or KC…….?

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

        Grant

Have to throw it out here to you, because I got inadequate replies from others on here when I brought it up the other day. Do you think the Harbaugh Bros., who are such good head coaches, are not great head coaches because they’re both just too conservative on offense?

      • DS94everXev says:

        Brotha

LF would be a very appealing WR for any QB. AS never has had a WR like him.

I think AZ is in the middle of the pack salary cap wise and they’ll be getting a top half pick in this years draft. If theymake the OL a priority and are smart, they can make their OL play improve a lot next year.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @DS
Haha Cupid! You’ve played matchmaker for Alex and Larry many a time on here! (offered as a gentle tease).
AZ has a lot to fix on the OL to get anything going on offense. Long and painfull learning curve.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

        DSLips

You DO know there are blogs in AZ where you can go try to drum up support for your boy, DON’T YOU? Hmmmmm? (Offered as an earnest plea to leave)

      • Brotha Tuna says:

C’mon Syco. Are you Chairman of the Blog Membership Committee? You could lighten up a bit.
LOL Are we Augusta National Golf Club? Grover Norquists Sworn Devotees?
Not trying to pick a fight, I just think its odd to tell people to leave a blog. Perhaps just scroll past….?

      • DS94everXev says:

LF is the best WR since JR. I’ve seen him make plays he has no business making. If you don’t think that doesn’t appeal to any QB, can’t help you there.

Besides lots of teams have improved dramatically on one side of the ball in one year. Our very own Niner D. They stank in 2010, then in 2011 they were the best. With just the right coach and a few good new players (Aldon and Whitner) both of whom weren’t the talk of the town in the draft/FA.

Don’t think it can’t happen in AZ. They aren’t the Raiders.

      • msclemons67 says:

@Brotha AZ would be a great fit for Alex. He’d have a ton of excuses there.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Clem
Ha! I knew that would be your quote before I clicked on it. We’re at least a recognizable mob of hooligans on here. : >)

      • MidWestNiner says:

@Brotha AZ would be a great fit for Alex. He’d have a ton of excuses there.

The funny thing Msclemon is that some of those ‘excuses’ are also affecting Kaepernick, like pass protection and the receiving corps dropsies. So are they still Alexcuses that are now Kaepologies or are they actual areas of concern?

      • msclemons67 says:

MidWest, we can’t compare 7 years of excuses to a 3-1 start just yet.

Harbaugh has shown he’ll move on if a player isn’t good enough. If the Kaepologies continue at least we won’t have to endure them for nearly a decade.

      • MidWestNiner says:

MidWest, we can’t compare 7 years of excuses to a 3-1 start just yet.

No, but the same problems are there and are areas of concern Msclemon, no matter who the starting QB is.

      • 23Jordan says:

Smith is a Kansas City Chief. I already traded him. I got 4 lifetime Courtside seats for the warriors games. Thanks alex!!!

    • Neal says:

The price will be right, Flaco wants big money, although he is very ordinary.

  10. Brotha Tuna says:

    Rogers is surgical today

  11. Jack Hammer says:

I know it’s work, but have a blast Grant. Going to be a great game.

  12. msclemons67 says:

Danny Amendola hates old people. First he beat up on Carlos Rogers and just now he broke some old dude’s glasses on the sideline.

  13. Doc says:

Just for the record, I like this kid Kapernick although if Coach Harbaugh was serious about making a Super Bowl run he would have stuck with Smith and the experience. Last week was the time to put him in and get the rust off heading into the playoffs.

If I were a betting man, Carrol in Seattle would much rather go against Kapernick next week with the inexperience and stronger possibility of intellectual mistakes. Smith has proven himself from last year with limited tools and weapons and still made it to the NFC title game. Seriously, there is risk of loosing 2 games before the post season.

What happens if Kapernick does not have the hot hand? Then it tells me this is about Harbaugh legacy and not the team.

Don’t get me wrong, I have been a huge Niner fan since I was a kid watching Clark and Montana orchestrating the Catch. I think the best chance of winning the playoffs and super bowl lies with Smith. Everyone knows Kap will be running the offense next year.

Just a thought here though….I think Smith will be playing football in Arizona next year.

Also don’t think it is fair to put such a responsibility on Kapernick at this stage of the season, unfair. Would understand if Smith was injured or suspended.

Although, I got to say “in Harbaugh we trust” as he has gotten this team on track. But man…… don’t think this is the right thing to do right now.

    Just my thoughts.

    Go Niners!!

    Doc

    • 23Jordan says:

      Doc,

Just keep an eye on your new QB for your niners bro!

      • Doc says:

        23,

Thats right new QB, don’t for get not as experienced and a beginner as a game manager. Will be rootin for him hope him the best. Still think Smith should be the guy at the helm and it is irresponsible to hang the responsibility of a SB on his shoulders (Kap) going into the playoffs.

      • msclemons67 says:

At least the new QB isn’t carrying 7 years of failure.

  14. Ribico says:

Why can’t the Giants look like this when *we* play them.

  15. BOS9er says:

Wow what crappy weather already and were still 4+ hrs to kickoff. Grant i hope ur in the press box cuz w/o gloves or a scarf it could be a looooong day.

80% of the time a great O meets a great D the D wins. Today wont be any different especcialy with the weather.
    9ers 27 Pats 24

Now lets go sit in traffic for 2 hours :(

    • DS94everXev says:

That is the one theory that sides with us. Great offense depends virtually all the time on bad defense. If the D isn’t bad that great offense doesn’t know what to do. See Rams/Pats Super Bowl.

  16. Spaceborn says:

This game is starting to look like a must-win as far a keeping the #2 seeding with the Packers beating the Bears. With the Packers remaining two games against Tennesee and Minnesota, two winnable games, it actually may take the 49ers winning all three remaining games to keep it. Getting that bye and home-field is huge in the playoffs. Not the only way to the SB, but would be the better way to get there.

  17. Brotha Tuna says:

    @ BOS @Ribico
Let the blog know what you’re wearing and where you’re sitting in case the tv gets you in a shot. Looking for some red and gold.

  18. Sycophantick Romantick says:

Russell Wilson is one smart, slippery SOB!

  19. DS94everXev says:

How happy now are people that Washington beat NY?

NY has the tie breaker on us. And Washington is close record wise to us. If we don’t beat Seattle, there is a very real chance we don’t make the playoffs now.

I posted after the Redskins beat NY that I wasn’t so sure who I wanted to win.

Also, the Vikings who had only 1 road win went into St. Louis and won. How bad will it get?

    We need to win.

    • Spaceborn says:

DS9, even if the Redskins or Giants win their last two games to get to 10-6, the 49ers would still get a wild-card even if they lose to the Pats and Seahawks and beat AZ that last game. Their record would be 10-5-1 and that half game disallows a tie-breaker.

      • msclemons67 says:

Facts mean nothing compared to karmic harmony, magical auras and unicorns pooping rainbows.

      • Spaceborn says:

ms, I just dug out my ’94 lucky SB socks for this game tonight. They reek because they have never have been washed since then. Much better mojo than anything you listed, lol!

      • msclemons67 says:

I hope your socks work Spaceborn. This game scares the heck out of me.

      • Spaceborn says:

ms, if they do I already warned the wife that they aren’t coming off and they aren’t getting washed, lol.
Let’s go 49ers! And may the Socks be with you!

    • Sycophantick Romantick says:

      Jordy

Go easy on the poor fool. S/He knows nothing about anything but the one topic we’d all rather hear nothing more about. Give the poor fool a break, Jordu…

  20. Spaceborn says:

Still early in the Seattle/Buffalo game, but the road to the SB for the 49ers is starting to look a little tougher. That loss to the Rams is starting to loom much larger now after seeing what other playoff-bound teams have done and are doing today.

  21. Stan says:

    Whats the temps there?

  22. Hov says:

9ers have to at least a split of the next two games if “we ” dont it’s not looking to good.

  23. Scooter_McG says:

Could the Bills give up 300 yards passing and 300 yards running in a game TWICE in one season?

  24. msclemons67 says:

SeaBass may have just saved the Raiders’ chance at the #1 pick.

Assuming the Raiders actually have a 1st round pick. I’ve lost track of their bad trades.

  25. Brotha Tuna says:

Yeah, I don’t know what happened last week in Pitt, but I didn’t believe in those Chargers. Losing 24-0 at Halftime at home to Panthers. Bucs skunked by Saints 41-0?

  26. 23Jordan says:

I still like Buffalo to win this game. Im begging of course! Theyve got seattle right where them. DOWN 4 touchdowns!

  27. 23Jordan says:

    Those billz are special. Lol
