Harbaugh pleads the fifth re: Brandon Jacobs’ status on the 49ers

SANTA CLARA – Jim Harbaugh spoke to Bay Area reporters in the 49ers defensive meeting room Monday afternoon. Here’s what he said about Brandon Jacobs.

Q: Is Brandon Jacobs a problem? He’s made some comments on social media that he hates it here, that he’s rotting. What’s your feeling about that? Is he a part of this team?

HARBAUGH: I really don’t have a comment on that for you. No comment.

Q: Have you spoken to him about his comments?

HARBAUGH: No comment.

Q: Is he still part of the team?

HARBAUGH: I’ll go with the fifth amendment. I have no comment about that.

Q: He had some of these same issues in New York. When you acquired him, did you know this was a part of who he is?

HARBAUGH: Yeah, just at this time, at this hour I choose to have no comment on that.

Jacobs is done as a niner. they might hold onto him an an insurance policy but hell be inactive the rest of the year otherwise.

  2. Msclemons67 says:

Wow – Jacobs is getting the Braylon Edwards treatment. That’s as close to criticizing a player publicly as Harbaugh ever gets.

  3. Grimey9er says:

If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. Jacobs may be on his way out. Possible late season cut like Braylon.

    • jsand3030 says:

I think they’ll keep, although inactivate him, after learning their lesson from cutting Braylon and not having any WRs left in the championship game.

  4. old coach says:

I bet they have their legal team trying to find a way they can suspend him w\o pay or force him to give up part of his signing bonus

    • Brotha Tuna says:

Good guess Coach. ESPN is saying they did suspend him, but they weren’t sure of the legality of that or why they didn’t just cut him.

  5. rocket says:

I’m guessing they will release Jacobs now that they have seen Dixon and LMJ do the job. They also have Hampton sitting on the roster as well. Jacobs isn’t worth the negativity he’s bringing. If he played ST’s he’d be active but he doesn’t. He also isn’t a change of pace from Gore like an LMJ is. He is too self centered to understand the situation and the logic behind it. I don’t think Harbaugh will let this go on too much longer seeing as though this is the second time this season he’s had to deal with this.

  6. Mr. Automatic says:

Out right release or maybe a trade for a decent (read: non-revolving door-type) RT? I kid, I kid…. sorta.

    • msclemons67 says:

Trade deadline has passed, unfortunately. Would be nice if the 49ers could get a late round pick out of this waste of salary.

  7. jsand3030 says:

I guess they have released him. I would have let him sit on the bench.

    • msclemons67 says:

To quote Eddie DeBartolo: “He’s gone.”

    • jsand3030 says:

Oh good now a reports out that they have suspended him for the rest of the regular season without pay. Good decision

      • msclemons67 says:

        Party pooper.

Kidding. This is actually a better move. With his salary and performance Jacobs would clear waivers and end up back on the Giants in two days.

      • bayareafanatic says:

Jacobs tweeting that he is frustrated doesn’t make him a bad guy. The dude wants to play. Sounds like he’s been healthy for a while and wasn’t getting in the mix.

Dixon has been here for a while and knows the system. He looks legit and wasn’t getting reps.

James is a legit weapon and it seems to me they could have used him sooner.

On to the PATS. Last game I saw against the Pats was at the Stick. Cassel threw a bomb for a TD to Moss. Pissed me off. Pats fans talk a lot of $hit….

      • Jack Hammer says:

        +1

      • msclemons67 says:

@Bay complaining about a lack of playing time is fine. Saying “I hate it here” is a different story.

  8. D Rogue says:

Not released. That call was a little premature. It sounds like the 49ers have suspended Jacobs… for the time being.

    • jsand3030 says:

The thing is, what did Jacobs expect when he signed onto the team? He had to know he was primarily a backup to Gore.

  9. msclemons67 says:

I’ve learned the hard way not to question Baalke… but couldn’t the money wasted on Jacobs have been used to keep Costanzo?

    20/20 hindsight, I know.
