The 49ers just announced they’ve moved Mario Manningham to the injured reserve and replaced him on the 53-man roster with rookie undrafted defensive tackle, Tony Jerod-Eddie.
The 49ers could be missing as many as three defensive tackles against the Cardinals on Sunday. Justin Smith has a partially torn triceps, Will Tukuafu has an injured neck and Demarcus Dobbs is out for the year with a knee injury.
Jerod-Eddie (6-5, 301 pounds) has a chance to play against the Cardinals, because the 49ers need a backup five-technique defensive end who can sub in for Ray McDonald or Ricky Jean Francois if either player gets tired.

Who?
I’m always wary of dudes with hyphenated last names.
Let’s wait and see what this kid brings to the party….
This is the time of the year we need to be getting healthier not falling apart. None of this bodes well for our chances in the tournament.
Boo-hoo-hoo…
Injuries are part of the game – every team is suffering to some degree by this stage of the season. Everyone says this is the most stacked roster in the NFL – time to find out.
Hey Grant ..
Any possibility Justin gets back on the field during the playoffs ?
If not.. why not have the procedure done, now.. so he’ll be at
100% next season ?
In other news .. Bee-Rows is reporting Vernon has been cleared =>

Two tweets by Barrows, less than an hour apart;
1. Justin Smith said today he’ll be ready to play if the playoffs started next week for the 49ers.
And then:
2. Jim Harbaugh said today that Justin Smith risks tearing his triceps tendon further if he plays.
Ken Norton Jr. played with what I believe was the same injury for the 49ers. Pain tolerance is the issue. Don’t know how effective The Cowboy could be missing one lasso.
ken norton had a torn bicep.
i think i remember this kid from training camp. I think the word was that he could end up being a future NT
I don’t come on here often, but I thought this was a 49er fan blog site. Who are the 68% who don’t think the 49ers will win the superbowl? Come out! Show yourself! 68%?! Wow! So this is basically just a talk sh! site right? Ok got it. Next time I want to talk sh!, I’ll come on here. Now, let me go talk with some REAL 49er fans about gettin to the superbowl. Props to the 32% on here that know what’s up
Jai – Great post….Instant classic! I’m in 32% club. :) ..Welcome to
the blog, please visit more often.
I’m in the 32% as well. All in. Once you are in the playoffs anything can happen and gosh darn-it, I believe!
Crabs you gonna be at the game?
Guilty,
I am not part of the 32%, without a doubt I feel we have the best team in the NFL, but worry that the injuries have taken too much of a toll, without Justin Smith, it appears that Aldon Smith is just a shell of himself, Manningham I was expecting big things in the playoffs and he is a huge loss and Hunter is a huge lost, Ginn looks like he should retire. Can the other guys play up their game is a big concern and question.
However as Al Michaels once said ” I do believe in miracles”
Neal,
They beat NE in NE without Manningham. James has replaced Hunter without skipping a beat. The only real question is how Aldon Smith will play if J Smith is unable to go, and even then it is more about how RJF fills that spot.
Against the run it is A Smith’s job to set the edge and force it back inside. Without J Smith there, it creates more of a gap, RJF needs to step up.
Against the pass A Smith did a good job of getting pressure in Seattle, but without the push from the inside it made it easier for Wilson to step up and under, RJF needs to step up.
See the theme…
Jack,
Yes I see the theme, RJF I have concerns with, he seems to get pushed back from the line way more then Justin Smith, he is just not a great player, also my biggest concern which I didnot mention is Roman, he reminds of Alex, great some games and horrible the next.
Great post Jai!
My name is Jack and I am a believer.
To the 68% who don’t believe, don’t worry we will save you a spot on the bandwagon.
Jai,
I’m clearly the heart of the 32%. I’ll say it again. We are going to the Super Bowl. Yes, we are taking Alex with us. Even though we know he’s part of the 68%ers! Go Noners. It starts this weekend.
On a side note, Minnesota will be Green Bay and then the 32%ers bandwagon will have a line again! Lol.
I thought we were winning the Superbowl with JSmith healthy, with Alex smith starting, with Manningham healthy, with KW healthy, with a bad st, ok offense and ok defense at the time.
And I STILL believe we will NOW! Not because I’m a homer. It’s because I don’t see a real threat out there that can beat this team when they are focused and energized. They were out played by Minn and took them lightly, They got rolled by the Giants, tied and lost to a division rival and got beat by a hot rival in the hardest place to play with refs helping and coming back from shocking the football world and laying a beating on the patriots. This is the team that went into GB and dominated, dominated Det a team that was dangerous, they embarrassed the Bills and jets. They rolled in and destroyed the best defense at the time at home vs Chicago, they went in to Bree’s house when they were smoking hit on both sides of the ball and beat them, they got the split from the two toughest back to back road games NO other team has faced this season. Some fans are fans from week to week. Hearing j smith might not play was devastating and would have been a huge loss, but if he does play even sparingly they are my favorites to win it all.
Gore is rested and ready to run, lmj fills in great for KH with quick runs to the outside, a little thin at wr, but not as thin as last season. The pass rush will step up and CR will not be on an island by himself.
The 68% want to look at two things. Their qb smith isn’t starting and they want to compare this team to last years team (what a joke) or they think last weeks loss is the end all be all!
I choose to look at the big wins we had this season and trust the coaching staff to learn from their mistakes.
Signed REAL 49er FAN!!!!
Have a great weekend folks. Snow is calling!
Well, I’m in the 68%, and I’m a Kaep fan.
“It’s because I don’t see a real threat out there that can beat this team when they are focused and energized.”
Ouch. Here is the rub. We have not been able to remain focused for three weeks all year. Blame coaching, or injuries, or Aker’s foot, or whoever. The fact remains that, from the start of the season, we have generated nothing but turds every three weeks. Unhappily, the playoffs will last about 3 or 4 weeks if we were to go all the way.
So either we break a pattern that pre-dates all the QB sound and fury, or we’re not getting there. I HOPE we break that pattern. But the 49ers have shown nothing this season to give one confidence that they can. We are one of the best inconsistent teams in NFL history. Great some games; bafflingly inept in others.
Wow, are there certain criteria to qualify as a 49er Fan? Does somebody have a checklist for the qualifications? I’ve been a Niner Faithful since before a few commenters here were born. Maybe I’m mistaken though if I don’t measure up to other people’s standards.
I guess I was hallucinating last Sunday night. Or, they played less than Playoff-caliber ball. Can they turn it around? Absolutely yes. Can they play winning ball in the playoffs? Sure. Can they make it to and win the Super Bowl? Yep, that too. Will I support their efforts? Unquestionably.
But do I have reason for concern? I’d say yes to that too.
Its funny how the 32 percenters are calling out the 68 percenters like those who have doubt are’nt real fans. I wonder how many of the 32 percent believed we were absolutley going to win the superbowl when Alex Smith was the QB and if they did’nt believe did the feel they were’nt real fans
I did then as well.
i believe you Jack i wonder how many others are as honest as you
OC, consider the source.
Jai Welcome
While we are all fans there is a distinction between homer fanbois and those that are rational. While I root and wish for them to win i cant say that im 100% positive that they will win the SB this year. Thats not to say that theyre not one of the favorites or that they will be done after this year (in fact their window is just begining) but how can u look at WWL, WWL, WWT and not be a bit concerned. Im all for chest thumping and all but I never know which 9ers team will show up on any given week. With all the injuries piling up it just makes the task that much more daunting.
Im just glad thet we will be having this conversations for the next 10 years (hopefully if Kaep develops like we think he will)
PLAYOFFS 2 YEARS IN A ROW and it will only get better
