Ray McDonald on Brandon Jacobs: “They felt he was being a distraction.”

SANTA CLARA – Here’s what Ray McDonald said Tuesday in the locker room about Brandon Jacobs’s suspension.

Q: Were you surprised about Brandon Jacobs getting suspended?

McDONALD: From the coaches’ standpoint, they don’t want any distractions on the team. They felt he was being a distraction, so they felt they needed to do something.

Q: Do you agree with the decision?

McDONALD: I guess. He’s not about the team. The coaches feel that he’s not trying to help the team. They made the right decision.

Q: Is it tough knowing what’s too much to write on social media?

McDONALD: It is. I try to stay away from that stuff. I’m not on twitter and all that. You see what that gets you. It gets you in trouble.

  1. Prime Time says:

Most underrated 49er right there along with Goldson.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Before this season yes, but unfortunately Soap has underperformed this season.

      • Leo says:

        agreed Midwest….

Now that position is in need of a upgrade for sure….hopefully via the draft

But I love Goldson, he needs to be prioroty #1 to re-sign IMO

Soap is ok…id rather see more of RJF. Mcdonald and Brooks are solid at stopping the run. I think we need another pass rusher to help out Aldon Smith. 19.5 sacks and the nxt one is Brooks with 5? You take #99 off our defense and our pass rush is in trouble. I don’t know why we don’t rotate our Dline on passing downs and bring in some fresh legs. Seems like mcdonald justin smith and brooks play every snap all the time.

I think he will be, Leo. Everyone else is locked up and we’re a bit thin when it comes to safety depth. Would love to see Dashon in Red & Gold for another 5 or 6 years.

      +1

    • msclemons67 says:

Holy crap. I agree with Prime.

  2. Nick says:

RM calls it like it is – no sugar coating it:

    They made the right decision

  3. JPN001 says:

Prime, I would add Whitner to that list.

  4. bdubbs23 says:

While you are at it…might as well add Culliver to that list

    • Mr. Automatic says:

+1 I sure hope the coaches allow and foster competition between the corners for the starter positions this off-season. Chris looks like he could be the real deal and CR’s game is starting to show some cracks, imho.

  5. Mr. Automatic says:

I don’t think this is just about what BJ wrote in social media channels, but that he continued to do it after having a come-to-Jesus with Coach for his prior incidents several weeks ago. I can only assume this negative attitude was on display in the locker room, as well. The Team. The Team. The Team. Not – Me. Me. Me.

  6. Alan M says:

Add Boone to the underrated list.

  7. NYniner says:

Who does Jacobs think he is … Jim freakin Brown, Giants were thin at rb and let him walk we gave him the chance to win another sb this year, who was he taking carries away from on this roster unless FG went down… Should have kept his mouth shut something he’s never learned

  8. Brotha Tuna says:

When Clayton was talking about Jacobs on ESPN, he seemed to me to belittle the chances of his claim to the NFLPA.
