Here is what running back Reggie Bush said Wednesday to South Florida reporters, courtesy of the Miami Dolphins.
(On facing the 49ers defense) – “It’s going to be a tough game – physical, make no mistake about it. This is probably going to be the most physical game we’ve played all year to date. We’ve got to prepare ourselves on a daily basis. You’ve got to get in the hot tubs, cold tubs, get your body ready, whatever you’ve got to do to get ready for a physical game. Get it done. This is going to be a tough game. It’s going to be a grind it out football game. It’s one of those games that it’s going to be won by three points, seven points. We’re going to have opportunities to make plays this game, but I think it’s going to come down to just our effort, our ability to go out there and execute and how bad we want to win this football game.”
(On why the 49ers linebackers are so good) – “I think it just comes down to talent obviously and then just the schemes, coaching system that they’re in. (It) gives them the ability to (play well)… and then obviously they have a good defensive line up in front of them. Those guys they suck up double teams and it gives the linebackers the ability to go out there and just run around kind of free and make plays. Not taking anything away from them, they’re very, very talented. Obviously, Patrick Willis is, like you said, he might be the best linebacker in the league, but they’re great linebackers who have a really good defensive line in front of them, so it gives them the ability to really just roam around free and make plays.”
(On the team scoring 19 points per game and the reason behind that) – “It’s a little bit of everything. It’s red zone. It’s third downs. We haven’t really hit I think a consistent stride at any point in this season. We’ve been up. We’ve been down. We’ve been here. We’ve been there. So we’ve just got to kind of find I think a happy medium. Some games we’re running the ball well and we’re not throwing it well. Some games were throwing it well and we’re not running it well. Some games we’re converting third downs. Some games we’re not. We’ve just got to kind of find that consistency about ourselves, about our team to where we can feel good and I think we’ve kind of we haven’t hit that at this point in the season.”
(On what he hopes to accomplish in the last quarter of the season) – “We’ve just got to take it game-by-game. I’m not worried about the four games. I’m worried about the next game and it’s a big game against the 49ers. How are we going to handle this game? We have to show up because if… I think this is a game where we’re going to have to play almost a near perfect game to be able to win. They’re coming off a loss, so you know they’re going to be looking for a little bit of confidence. We’re playing in their stadium, so they’re going to have a little bit of swagger about them. We’re going to have to go in there and really fight this one out. It’s going to be a grind it out game. They’re not going to give it to us. We’re going to have to go out there and take it.”
(On Mike Sherman using more formations) – “You know what, that’s a question for Sherman. I can’t answer what’s going through his mind. I just know that he’s been mixing it up a little bit lately and that’s a good thing. That’s good thing. Any time you’re mixing it up like that and you’re forcing defenses to watch multiple people, that’s a good thing and that’s only going to help our offense. But yeah, as far as the question standpoint, I can’t really answer that. I don’t know what’s going through his mind.”
(On if he’s wondered why he doesn’t catch more passes in this offense either this year or last year) – “Yeah, I wonder about it, but it’s not really my decision to make. I think that the tape is there, the proof is there. If they need me to go out and run routes, I think they know that I can do it and I’ve done it in practice. It’s just a matter of scheme and how they feel. When my number is called, I try to go out there and make plays. But I think they know that I can go out there and do that. I think everybody knows that.”
(On Jake Long’s value to the offense) – “It’s priceless. Losing a guy like that, it’s tough. Jake Long, he’s a leader. He’s a great football player. He’s a great person. So losing a guy like Jake is very tough and hopefully… We wish him the best in his recovery. (We) wish him a speedy recovery. Then, hopefully he can still be a part of this team. Obviously, I know he’s going to be doing his rehab, but hopefully he can still be in there in the meetings, around the team cause we need his presence around this football team. That’s how valuable he is to this team.”

He is a high school friend and teammate of Alex Smith and not one A.S. related question? I think the Harbaugh “low hanging fruit” advice is working on you guys.
The Miami media interviewed him.
On our side, we need to hope that Harbaugh can improve Kaep’s ability to read defenses pre-snap and select the correct play.
With Smith under center, the Niner running backs average 5.5 yards per carry. With Kaep at QB, they average 3.9.
Overall the running stats look good with Kaep at QB, but that’s because of his personal numbers. If the Niners want to play the run first ball control they’ve been using, Kaep needs to improve.
So, maybe it isn’t Greg Roman!!
Grant lots of posts regarding the miami O and 9er D. I do’nt think thats where the game will be won or lost. Do you have any articles in the pipe line regarding how miami’s D plans to attack the 9ers in general or more specificly how they will D Kap
I bet they will do the same thing the Rams did: confuse his pre-snap reads and play soft zone, which is harder to read than man to man and takes away many of Kaep’s long throws.
Also, see above for the difference between Smith and Kaep in selecting the play at the line of scrimmage.
The good news is that Miami’s pass defense isn’t great (28th in the league). However, they’re good at generating pressure on the QB with just rushing 4. They are also very opportunistic and generate turnovers (like the Niners D of last year). They also play tough D in the redzone. I expect this to be a low scoring, physical game. By the Niners should be able to move the ball on Miami with quick hitting plays and screens (if Roman calls them).
Good assessment Nick.
You all need to get over the Smith and Kaep. crap. Smith is in the past, Kaep. is the present and future. I wish Smith would just quit and walk away, then we can all back the 9ers team, I heard all this crap with Montana and Young, let it go back the team, no9t the
This wont end until after the season and one qb is no longer here…if that is the case. This could very easily swing back the other way. If Kap goes all Drew Brees or Mark Sanchez, or boyhood idle Brett Favre, and gets very careless with the ball I wouldnt be surprised to see him pulled.
Is it not obvious his hand has cooled the last 3 games and his performance in those games has gone down in each. Funny that he’s gotten worse against supposed worse competition. Bears>Saints>Rams. Then again how back Brees looked against ATL you have to wonder how good that win really is.
*then again how bad brees looked
Finally someone seeing it straight! CK has regressed, not gotten better. Now he will win against a bad MIA team but the real test comes against NE & SEA, and AZ.
MJ,
What would you say are the 2 best 49er wins this year?
Packers and AZ on Monday night, hands down!
Packers and Bears! By far!
MD the Bears played soft, tired and with a bad backup QB. It was a terrible game.
Prime,
Packers – agree
Cardinals – no way. They came in on a 3 game losing streak and are now 4-8. Not a very good football team.
At that time of the season it was the marque match up and for the Cards to gain ground in the 49ers. Monday night on the road, hostile environment, great performance on both sides of the ball. Don’t forget it was one drop from a record setting performance.
Yes, and we have since come to realize that the Cardinals are a bad football team on the way to having it’s coach fired as a result.
Well Jack then the loss to Vikes was a fluke because everyone thought that after that win the Vikes and Ponder were the real deal, a playoff team. Not so much now so your point is invalid.
At the time the Cards were for real. Had a top 5 defense. Alex and Crabs ate them up!
The coaches are sticking with Kaepernick over the caddy even after a bad game.
I believe that tells us who will be gone next year.
Lemons why are you so stupid all the time? Where on this thread are we talking about who stays and who goes?
The Cards were already on their way down. The win over Seattle was a better win. It wasn’t pretty, but it was on a short week against an opponent that might be in the playoffs.
They might win the division!
The original post Prime.
If you would lift you head from between the legs of your Alex Smith blow up doll you’d see that.
Yeah the one you let me borrow?
The thread continues and evolves, try and stay with us if you can old timer!
Yes they might. It will be interesting to see how they play without the DB who was suspended, and Sherman may be suspended also before the 49ers play them.
So you admit your head was between the legs of an Alex Smith blow up doll.
I was just guessing. Thanks for confirming.
lol Clemons
not the QB
Dear Santa ,Miami-13—-Niners-7,,,,,, Patriots 33—-Niners 17,,,,,that,s what I want for Christmas,,,,,,exninerfan

That’s all I have to say. Now beat it scrub!
Loved that movie when I was younger but it has some really bad acting in it.
The next time anyone complains about my “Precious” references I will link to this post.
We have a lot of posters who are Alex Smith fans, not 49ers fans.
