49ers Week 17 grades: Coaching

SAN FRANCISCO – The 49ers stomped the Cardinals 27-13. Here is the grade for the 49ers coaches.

Coaching: B-. The 49ers stomped a team they should have stomped, but they got beaten in the first quarter. The Cardinals scored six points and the Niners scored none. The Cardinals had two first downs and the Niners had none. The Cardinals had 42 yards rushing and the Niners had 10. The 49ers came out flat, which is something they’ve done several times this season. That’s Jim Harbaugh’s fault. His 49ers never were flat last season, but this season they’re flat after two-straight wins and very often at the beginning of games.

Once the 49ers took a 10-6 lead early in the third quarter, you could sense the Cardinals losing belief in themselves, and the 49ers piled it on. Give them credit for piling it on – they needed to. They needed momentum for the playoffs, and they got a little bit.

    Grant,

Ginn completely changed our early momentum established by the defense when he let that punt go. Getting backed up to the 1 may have changed the play calling by the coaches.

    Grant,

Do you know if VD was open at all today, or the big hit today slowed him down?
