SANTA CLARA – Aldon Smith spoke in the 49ers’ locker room Wednesday afternoon. This is what he said.
Q: Have offenses been double-teaming you more and more as the season has progressed?
ALDON SMITH: Yeah, I’ve gotten doubled a lot more. Quarterbacks are doing a good job of getting the ball out of their hands. Stuff like that.
Q: How do you deal with that?
ALDON SMITH: It’s freeing somebody up. Somebody’s going to get to the quarterback. It might not be me making the play, but somebody’s going to get there.
Q: There has been a lot of talk about Ray Lewis and how much of a leader he is for the Ravens. Who is your team’s Ray Lewis, as far as locker room presence?
ALDON SMITH: We have a lot of them. You could name Frank, Justin, Carlos, Vernon, Patrick – you could name anybody. That’s one thing about this locker room that’s unique. It’s not just one leader. There are a lot of leaders.
Q: Is there a Super Bowl you remember watching that you remember thinking I want to be there?
ALDON SMITH: The Titans vs. the Rams. I was a big Titans fan. Mike Jones made a tackle. I was heartbroken. I was mad for years about that.
Q: Does the defense get something just from Justin Smith’s presence?
ALDON SMITH: Other than him being a threat and a badass out there, we all know we’ve got a guy who’s ready to go to war with us. It feels good.
Q: Why were you a Titans fan?
ALDON SMITH: I don’t know, I liked everybody on the team.
Q: People compare you to Jevon Kearse.
ALDON: I was an Eddie George fan, really. I was a Steve McNair, Frank Wycheck, Kevin Dyson fan. I was a fan of the whole team.
Q: You were 10 or 11 back then. Were you a defensive end back then?
ALDON SMITH: I wasn’t playing football at that point. I was a power forward and a point guard.
Q: Did you seek out Jeff Fisher this year?
ALDON SMITH: No. They got after us this year.
