Grant not going to the Super Bowl

I will not not be covering the Super Bowl or Super Bowl week. I’m staying home because my mom is having surgery this week and I’m going to be with her. I still will post blogs throughout the week, a live blog on Super Bowl Sunday a grades right after the game, as usual. Phil Barber and Bob Padecky are in New Orleans covering the Super Bowl. They will contribute to the blog this week, too. Please welcome them.

  10. 49er42 says:

  20. Alex Smith for President says:

Coach Harbaw: Try and imagine what life would be like if you had continued to work for the University of San Diego and raise your family in Coronado. If you can wrap your mind around that scenario, then you can understand the character traits of Grant Cohn, choosing to remain in town and comfort his mother during her medical procedure. He showed us that family is more important than sports; at times it becomes an either/or. He zigged when many others would have zagged. Imagine how proud his father Lowell must be. Wow.
I am nominating Grant for the Sportsmanship Award. Okay?

  21. Dh3 says:

Hope your mom gets well soon and has a quick recovery Grant

  22. fesnyc says:

Grant, best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery, and good on you for being there to support her, it must mean the world to her.

  23. Coffee's for closers says:

Given the timing I’m assuming it’s either something that came up suddenly or couldn’t be put off further and I do hope that everything turns out fine. Glad to see you made the correct decision if in fact you had the opportunity to go to the game.

Make sure to let Harbaugh know he needs to return next year so you can make up for missing it this time.

    refuah sh’lemah

  24. CG says:

Reading Padecky is like watching paint dry. Reading Grant is like reading a comic book. Reading Lowell is like listening to Charlie Sheen.

    • Neal says:

Padecky is very boring, will be checking out Barrows, MM and TK more next week, to see if I am missing anything.

  25. Hoferfan67 says:

    Grant,

I’m looking forward to hearing that all went well with Mrs. Cohn on Wednesday, that dinner at Danko was outstanding, and that LC picked the wine that just topped off the evening. Please do keep us posted.

  26. AES says:

Best wishes and speedy recovery for your Mom.

I was looking forward to your pre-game and SB perspective, but you have it right, family comes first.

Grant, I wish your mom a fast recovery and all the positive energy in the world for her to heal. GO NINERS

  30. Razoreater says:

  31. Neal says:

I noticed that, what is up with that.

  32. Houston 9er says:

Hope it’s nothing too serious and she has a speedy recovery. Wishing your mother and your family good luck and good health.

  33. BOS9er says:

How many G damn times does he have to tell you Dan Patrick “The man does not get nervous”. Yes he understands that its the SB but not everybody gets nervous especcialy when u have 2 weeks to prepare. What a great thing to hear from ur QB who has less career starts (10) then Flaco has playoff starts (12)
    #6 were bringin it home

  34. BOS9er says:

Sorry Just saw. BEST WISHES TO MRS.COHN

  35. Rebelscum says:

Cherish every moment and I wish a successful surgery! Love and live every moment! I am in my forties and lost my father to cancer last year. I think every one on this blog have faced some loss. my point is while we have our loved ones and people we are lucky and fortunate to have, spend time and cherish the moments. As much as we think we are in control we can only increase and decrease the odds to our favor but no gurantees, wish you nothing but the best!

  36. Hacksaw46 says:

    The Cohn family’

We hold you in our heart.

  37. Mr. Everything says:

Was I dreaming or did Grant write a post about Obama which no longer appears on this board?

    • Msclemons67 says:

I have a feeling Skinny Post said no.

      • Neal says:

All of the other BS we have on here is ok, the Prez post taken down.

      • ninermd says:

Any post for or by this president is garbage. Just like his term in office.

      • Nick says:

        MD
What you posted is purely ignorant. Way to parrot Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and the rest of Tea Party garbage you admire.

      • Razoreater says:

The fact remains that President Obama picked up the phone and had Grants’ post removed Chicago Style.

      • Neal says:

I am sure the Prez is connected to this blog and he see’s our nonsense every day, and Republicians you had your chance and you lost, your out of touch as Romney was and for you sportsnuts as Nolan and the Rev was. Fox news is just a bunch of propaganda sarcasm with pretty chicks who want to reach your little pp.

      • Razoreater says:

Uh…it was a joke bro. Lighten up man, we’re gonna win!

      • ninermd says:

Excuse me Nick? Who the *uck are you to tell me what I think about a president is ignorant? You know what ignorant is? Labeling me a republican or tea party member because I don’t care for Obama the dictator. I think I’ve posted how I felt about the idiot who ran this country before this idiot now. Way to label someone you don’t know. His body of work says all I need to know about how bad of a president he is. Get off his nuts. He’s not a celebrity. He’s suppose to be a leader of this country. And his political views and agendas are opposite of what our forefathers paved for us. Be original nick instead of sounding like every other Obama zombie and labeling others with a certain party or their racial outlook. Because I’m betting that would be next.

      • Crab15 says:

I’m a Republican and a Niner fan. What does your religion or political party have to do with a football blog?

      • ninermd says:

Cheers to that crab15…. That’s the reason I didn’t post on that earlier blog. Everyone has the right to vote or have their own outlook on this country and its political leaders. Isn’t that why our troops serve this country? Eh emmmm!!!!!

7 days away from the Superbowl and the last thing I want to do is discuss politics. Y’all dig?

      • Nick says:

        MD

I agree with Crab, there’s no need for politics on this blog. I brought it up only to refute your unfounded comments. I’m sure there are other blogs for ignorant and incoherent political rants. Have it there.

      • ninermd says:

Tell you what Nick. The day you serve this country or come beat my opinion or my right of freedom of speech out of me is the day you or anyone else can tell me what kind of opinion I can have. Got that kid? I didn’t bring up Obama. Now you can get back on your knees and serve your “president”.

      • claude balls says:

        @ Nick:

        I agree with ninermd.

We don’t need you telling us that ninermd is ignorant. I think he does a fine job of that all by himself.

        @ Mr. E:

I believe that was a Padecky post, not a Cohn post.

      • Kremlin says:

@ninermd – I guess the losing is getting to you. Now you are denying your brothers and sisters from the tea party/repubs.

“His body of work says all I need to know about how bad of a president he is”

Ha ha ha…..this coming from a loof that didn’t graduate from high school.

and FYI – I do serve my country and its not about discussing politics its about being informed before blabbing ignorant stuff.

      • undercenter says:

        MD
+1 The liberals will never understand, problem is the conservatives dont either. Independent thinking.

      • ninermd says:

Kremlin….. No way in hell you served this country. And IF you did. Obviously you didn’t with the right intentions. The computer world is here for folks like you. You can make your character anything you want it to be. 16 years of war and no reason for my fellow brothers and sisters should still be overseas fighting. Been awhile and there has been to many lives lost. Don’t you think? Most Vets and soldiers now think that.

And Claude another insightful post. Cornflakes still soggy with Pi$$? Ck is winning us a Superbowl. Deal with it Nerd!

      • ninermd says:

Under… I’m not tryin to change minds. Think how you want should be every Americans right. I’m sick to death of the Obama Zombies backing him like he is some god. He’s no better than Bush. And they have nothing that proves otherwise. Country comes first.

      • ninermd says:

And Under…. Independent thinking is my way of thinking also. Cheers to that Brotha!

      • ribico says:

        >>Labeling me a republican or tea party member because I don’t care for Obama the dictator.

md’s right. republican and tea party are way too left wing for him.

      • claude balls says:

        @ ninermd:

Ck is winning us a Superbowl.

I hope so. That’s what I am cheering for.

Remind me never to have breakfast at your house. The menu sounds horrible.

      • claude balls says:

        @ninermd:

Think how you want should be every Americans right. I’m sick to death of the Obama Zombies backing him like he is some god.

So, it should be every American’s right to think how he wants (newsflash, it already is) unless he supports Obama?

Do you not see the contradiction between those two thoughts? Seriously, how do you write the second sentence immediately after the first and not say to yourself, “Look at me talking out of both sides of my mouth”?

      • ninermd says:

Lol good one ribico. Naa ill just still blame that idiot Bush for our new presidents failures. It seems to be the cool thing to do.

      • ninermd says:

I know this is hard for you to grasp Claude…
But try and understand. I started by saying anything written for or about this president is garbage. My opinion, on the blog that was written by Grant. Not me! And low and behold I’m being told what to say and where to say it by Nick. Why? Because its about Obama. I went through the same crap with Bush Zombies also. How come you don’t defend Bush Claude? Is it because you Didnt like his actions or his term in office? Or are you defending Obama because you’re a hardcore left wing American who chooses to see only one side of the table? Or is it because you don’t like Americans questioning our government and its officials?
I’m sorry you can’t grasp that I as an American Vet and citizen hasn’t been happy with the last 12 years of this county and the elected officials we put in.

Sorry my brothers and sisters and fellow Americans were lied to about them coming home doesn’t bother you. But it hits home with me. And in honor of their time served overseas fighting for our freedoms of opinions and speech I as well as you should still be able to exercise those rights and not be dictated to by anyone. Who insulted who’s opinion first Claude? But hey you don’t have the guts to call out anyone infringing on someone else’s opinion. It’s just the same pick and choose copy and paste crap you love to spin. A personal problem you have with me. Have at it dude. Keep picking parts that makes you feel better and talking about those only. It only furthers what most know on here. You’re a fraud.

        @ ninermd:

Ck is winning us a Superbowl.

I hope so. That’s what I am cheering for.

Lmao! Notice I said CK not Alex smith. Yeah Claude your comments last week and picking fights shows your truly happy. Still bitter Claude? Wheeew!

      • claude balls says:

        @ ninermd:

Once again,, you have no idea what your are talking about. Freedom of Speech doesn’t mean that you get to voice your opinion free from disagreement or from being told you are ignorant. Freedom of Speech includes the freedom to express a different view and the right to tell an ignoramus that he is ignorant.

No one “infringed” on your opinion, whatever that means. No one has tried to silence you or prevent you from voicing your displeasure with Obama. You have every right to do so. But Nick also has the right to tell you that your opinion is ignorant. Freedom of Speech applies to him as well. And telling you that your opinion is ignorant isn’t the same as telling you what to say or where to say it.

And just to drive home the point that you talk out of both sides of your mouth, I leave you with these two gems:

        ninermd says:
        January 27, 2013 at 7:43 pm

Any post for or by this president is garbage. Just like his term in office.

Of course, less than two hours later,

        …
7 days away from the Superbowl and the last thing I want to do is discuss politics. Y’all dig?

      • ninermd says:

I’m sure there are other blogs for ignorant and incoherent political rants. Have it there.” From Nick.

So I see you still copy and paste what you want to Claude. Very good at comprehending what you want.

And BTW! Making a point about the president and posting about him being garbage on a football forum isn’t a political rant. Its my hint of the second paste you posted.
So now go and find me saying anything to anyone that bashes religion or gays. Good luck. I don’t tell others what to say and I won’t be told by others what to say or where to say it. So once again its YOU Claude that just can’t figure comprehension. Now bring your copy and paste tools over to the other post about Smith wanting to be released. Or is that a sore subject for you?

      • AngusinCanada says:

You guys should stop talking politics. A vote for either republican or democrat is the same. There is only one ruling party in the U.S., and it’s the party of corporate capital and the war profiteers. You’re arguing over who does a better or worse job as the figurehead.

Helen Keller (yes, that one) said it best:
“We vote? What does that mean? We’re given a choice between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum”.

  38. Razoreater says:

Our Offensive Line better be prepared for Suggs the junkyard dog and Freddy Kruger.

  39. Darren says:

Where did the Obama post go?

    • ninermd says:

In the toilet like this country is headed. Wheeew! That’s for you Nick!

      • Darren says:

        Nay, Clipboard Jesus is funnier.

      • Kremlin says:

@ninermd – if the country is going into the toilet (something you obviously have no clue about) why are you still here why not go back to your country.

unless of course you really don’t have a clue but to say things that makes no sense.

ninermd thinks his taxes will go up even though he will never make more than 50K a year in his lifetime.

      • ninermd says:

Lol obviously Kremlin doesn’t have a job. If you did Kremlin your 300 dollar a week check will be a little less. And it’s not because you skipped out on French frie duty to burn out one day. Bailing out GM and Banks are really different than what Bush did huh?
Saying our troops are coming home 4 years ago and sending more over us different also huh? …….
But hey how would you know any of that? He’s your icon and he’s the best president ever because “he’s in touch” lmao! Kremlin/onelame….. How’s it feel that your boy is watching CK do his thing? Burns you up doesn’t it?

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Well MD, my politics have been consistent for years. I joined the “Happy Fizzies Party” back in the 50s, although I drink more beer & wine these days. So now I’m registered as “DTS”: Decline To State, which is the same as “None Of Your Business”. I like that. ; >)
        PS:
Anybody seen ‘Lincoln’? The government was quasi- dysfunctional then as now; I’m not holding my breath for reform.
        BTW- Go Niners! WIN IT!!!!!

      • ninermd says:

Nice Brotha…. No I haven’t seen Lincoln yet. And yes our government was screwed up then too, but thank God for that man. You would think after all these years our leaders would have perfected a near perfect country by now. Lol is it any good? Heard some great reviews about it.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        MD
I recommend “Lincoln”. Not typical Hollywoodization of ‘based on truthiness’. IMO you’ll appreciate the dude more than ever. There were lots of obstacles to overcome to do what he got done.

      • ninermd says:

Good to know. I was worried about Hollywood spinning it into a glam or “Hollywood esk” type of movie. I’ve read some good history on Lincoln. Although he wasn’t perfect he was a brilliant man with the heart of a lion. You know he was great. They always get taken out. Thanks for the info. Ill defiantly check it out when it comes to blu ray.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Last thoughts on the movie. I was worried it would be unworthy (Lincoln Vampire Slayer?!? Are you kidding me?). I was dismayed that Sherlock Holmes, the master of observation and deductive reasoning was portrayed with gunplay, train chases and pyrotechnics.
Now we’ve got Hansel & Gretel shooting explosive arrows LOL! Not the way my Granny read it to me!

  40. Prime Time says:

Looks like Ed Donatell will become the Eagles new defensive coordinator after the Superbowl.

  41. Coffee's for closers says:

Anyone watch the utterly pointless Pro Bowl today? I’m an individual that lives for NFL football and I still couldn’t care less about the game. As far as I’m concerned it’s a useless opportunity for good players to get hurt. I’m glad the NFL and the Networks get their extra advertising money and all but I’d rather have my star players not going to Hawaii rather then return needing a new ACL.

Just give them a car already and call it a day.

    • Razoreater says:

I watched it and it was played the way it should be played as opposed to last year. It was the worst I’d ever seen. If you would of listened to Peyton Manning you would know that it is a game that fans and players alike appreciate. Be thankful it will now not be cancelled.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

You can be as thankful as you want as far as I’m concerned they can’t cancel the fecker fast enough.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Put it to you this way, if Kaepernick was playing today and ended up popping his ACL we’d have 100 posts of people calling for the game to be cancelled because it needlessly puts players at risk. I’m saying, why wait for that to happen, just cancel the SOB now and save the tears.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

The ProBowl is a party, IMO; and I support it as a gathering and honoraria. My proposal will be ridiculed upon 1st thought, but may be worth consideration:
Bring the honorees together for the party with families and the recognition and hold the game at a cost/price for the stadium break-even (most revenue from tv anyway) and play the game as Flag Football, quite literally. The guys would have fun, the injury risk reduced, and still some pitch & catch for the fans. Everybody already knows its not the same anyway……..

  42. ninermd says:

Watching the 49ers get off the plane was a great sight to see. The NFL network brought up N interesting point about how none of them had a camera rolling and said they looked like they are there for business. I like that and hope they treat this like another game. Keep their noses clean and go into the dome and smoke those old birds.

    • Darren says:

I got over/under Aldon or Crabtree or maybe both will get in trouble like the Atlanta Falcon players did. Boy, that was something else, a real hoot too! I can’t watch the news or read a newspaper as the 49ers articles just make me upset.

  43. KezarMike says:

A very speedy and full recovery for your mom, Grant. And the very best to your entire family.

  44. BigP says:

    Grant,
I wish the best for your mother and your family. Take care of her.

  45. Coffee's for closers says:

Grant where did your Obama post go? Did the PD ask you to take it down? I don’t love political discussions on sports boards but I hate censorship even more.

    • Darren says:

I know, I can’t understand that at all. Maybe Obama is a sore loser and is opposed to CK’s tattoos. Well, maybe GOodell will force him to cover them. It won’t kill the man to wear long sleeves out there! He can still do whatever he wants with his bicep, just don’t show the tattoos.

  46. Greg says:

Best wishes and speedy recovery for your Mom and hoping that all 4 or more of you can enjoy the game together knowing that the surgery went even better than expected.

  47. old coach says:

@MD I’m kicking myself already but you seem to dislike the presidencies of Obama and Bush 2, are there any past presidents that you do hold in high regard?

    • ninermd says:

Old coach… Ill join the brotha tuna party on this one.
Lol honestly can we say they have been full of greatness?
To be honest I feel betrayed for these two. Sending troops overseas for oil and control. And for your information Obama fans I voted for him his first term in hopes he would redirect Bush’s failures and keep his promise on sending our soldiers home. He Didnt and sent more overseas.

  48. 23Jordan says:

    Damn,

What happen to the blog? Between Darrens senseless trolling and MD’s attack on Obama, theres nothing left here. This is a 49ers blog and we’re 6 days from gametime. Can we please keep it football. Last week was troll week. Its time for some serious Niner football talk! Go Niners!

    • ninermd says:

Hey I didn’t write a blog about Obama. My comment is no different than some folks on here bashing religion, gays, Alex smith or Ck and Harbaugh. But what else should I expect from a blog full of hypocrites? It’s there way or no way!

  49. Brotha Tuna says:

I noticed at the ProBowl broadcast that a large percentage of players who were asked for their SB predictions bailed on the question. Pretty much they just smirked and wouldn’t play that game. I found that interesting, but it was the ProBowl, so I was desperate.
One guy was a friend of Tarrel Brown so he said he was rooting for the Niners. Jeff Saturday said he was pulling for the Ravens cuz he’s friends with RayRay and Birk.

    • Darren says:

The first half of the pro bowl wasn’t bad, but the second half was terrible. It was like they wanted to get it over with and that seems to be the problem. It’s like they don’t seem to want to have it, or they can’t find the right fundaments of it to make it fun. I don’t know…maybe do it like baseball and say hold it by say week 12, rather then go bye week, just have all teams get a bye week that week and play the Pro Bowl in Hawaii? Baseball holds the all star in mid point, NHL in mid point, NBA in mid point. Maybe holding it late in the season is wearing on players. NBA, NHL, and baseball don’t seem to have problems with their all star events.

  50. Darren says:

Jordan, the country is in bigger trouble when you can’t explain what was done to Alex and why. You may have a right to say but he’s been bad for 7 years, can’t take the team anywhere, yet it seems to me that no 49er wants to say Harbaugh turned him around, we went 13 and 3, but it’s very sad when you then say it’s his fault, not Kyle’s fault, that we lost to the Giants in the playoffs and hold him to fault during the regular season when any team can beat the 49ers. Do you hold SMith to fault for the Rams contests? The 42 to 13 loss in Seattle when he didn’t even start?

CK can win, but he can lose the game. Will you then say it’s Smith’s fault? I thought a win and a loss was team effort. Yet 49ers fans hold Smith in high regard of losing. When will you hold CK responsible, or is it always going to be Alex’s fault?

I have a right to feel bad for Alex. His job was taken away. I have a right to be reserved about CK. His numbers show he can’t pass. I don’t see a leader if he runs reckless with the ball. The tattoos need to be covered. But I’m not going to bash CK. There are some things he does good and some things that need working on. If there is no team contribution, the 49ers are not going to win if you just focus on Crabtree and Davis.

I just want the Superbowl to come and end quickly as possible. I wanted the old 49ers back and I may never get them.

I promise if you stop posting here I’ll give you your old team back, ok? I’ll wait for you to not post for over one month to confirm that you are holding up your end of the deal. After the month if you’ve refrained from posting I’ll go ahead and return the team to way you want them.

Grant any update on your mother? Has she had her surgery already?
