SANTA CLARA – This is the transcript of Colin Kaepernick’s Wednesday press conference, courtesy of the 49ers.
[Head coach Jim] Harbaugh mentioned last week that you were really picking up the game plan, a savant-like game he said. Did you feel like it was like another level for you, that the mental part was really picking up?
“I think it’s just something you have to do in this playoff situation. You get one shot so you have to be on top of everything.”
How exciting of a day is it when you get to see that game plan for the first time and see what [offensive coordinator] Greg Roman and the offensive staff has put together?
“It’s always exciting. They’re always coming up with something new, something different, something that’s going to help this offense.”
Did last week surprise you at all, the way that the plan was presented?
“I wouldn’t say it surprised me. It was a little bit different than what we normally do, but it was something we are all comfortable with.”
What are your thoughts going into the Georgia Dome?
“As far as?”
Just the atmosphere, I know it’s a really loud environment, the Falcons have won 33 of their last 40 there.
“Crowd noise is something you’re always going to have to deal with on the road. It’s something we prepare for.”
Atlanta, this week, they had been saying a lot of stuff about how they need to hit you, that’s how they need to stop it, what you do. How have you been able to so far avoid those type of hits, and now that there’s that target, how do you plan on avoiding those hits?
“Run where they’re not. You want to run away from where the defensive players are. When they get close, get down.”
How did you find out that you’re on the cover of Sports Illustrated?
“My agent called me the night before.”
For a lot of you guys, that’s a four-year dream. Is that a big deal to you?
“It was something I didn’t expect. It kind of surprised me, but it’s a great honor.”
What do you think about Harbaugh’s floating face?
“[Laughing] That’s a coach Harbaugh game face.”
You’ve had four passes intercepted this season where each time you’ve responded with a touchdown drive. What do you attribute that to? What goes through your head in those situations the next time you get the ball?
“That we have to score. I think that’s our whole offense’s mentality. We have to bounce back from a turnover.”
You talked about how you looked up to Brett Favre when you were a kid. Did you pay attention to more mobile quarterbacks that he was? Did you look at Steve Young much? Did you fashion yourself after him at all or were you too young then?
“Not at that point in my career. When I got into high school, college, I watched Vince Young, Michael Vick a lot, [Donovan] McNabb, watched the old clips of [Randall] Cunningham. They were all quarterbacks that were mobile and could make plays.”
When you were in college, did people want to view you as either a thrower or a runner? Did people view you as just a running quarterback, the other day you said that you didn’t want to be categorized?
“I feel like pretty much my whole life I’ve been categorized as a runner.”
It’s been a crazy road for you, you weren’t the starter, you’re the starter, now you’re on the cover of Sports Illustrated and people are wanting a piece of you. How have you handled that and is it a lot compared to what you expected?
“I don’t. I send everything to my agent and I go about my business as normal.”
You don’t react to it at all? People have to be shouting your name?
“I go home. I watch my film. I watch anything on TV but sports, and I go to bed and come back and do it the same way the next day.”
You and [WR] Michael [Crabtree] have had so many connections together, more than any other receiver on this team combined, it seems a combination the Falcons are going to try to stop. What has Michael continually do that allows him to keep getting open even though everybody knows who you’re going to?
“He’s winning. That what it comes down to. You’re going to get open as a receiver or you’re not, and he’s been getting open.”
What’s his specialty that allows him to be that open? What do you see from him in practice that we don’t get to see?
“You really can’t point one thing out. He’s a complete receiver. He knows what he’s doing out there. He knows how to work his routes.”
When you were coming out of college, there were a lot of questions about how you would adjust to the pro offense after running the pistol in college. Do you find it interesting at all now that the pistol is becoming so prevalent in the NFL?
“I don’t know if you can say it’s funny or what, but it’s another asset to our offense to help us move the ball.”
What did you think about the taunting penalty against Green Bay the other night?
“I didn’t think it was a penalty, but it was an emotional play.”
Michael Crabtree is a man of few words, at least in the media he is, so tell us something about him that he wouldn’t say about himself.
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen his interviews, so I don’t know what he has and hasn’t said.
Well tell us, what is there to know about your favorite receiver, just on and off the field, that makes him tick?
“He’s a workhorse. He just wants to win.”
What has been your favorite Kaepernicking image so far that you’ve seen?
“I saw a girl Kaepernicking while she was riding a horse.”
How old was she, or younger or older?
“I think it was teenage.”
You’ve had a trio of headstrong quarterback dating back to Roger Theder, [former Nevada head coach] Chris Ault and now Jim Harbaugh. Talk about how they’ve helped form your mental toughness.
“I think that’s something they’ve kind of engrained in me throughout my career. I’ve always had great quarterback coaches coaching me and I think that’s really helped me get to where I’m at now.”
Can you share what’s on your playlist this week? Your teammates say you’re always wearing your headphones.
“It depends on the day. I’ve got over 6,000 songs on my iPod, so it just depends on what mood I’m in.”

CK7 is great with his short answers to dumb questions. He’s direct and to the point. Don’t waste the man’s time.
yep. he’s not very verbal in press conferences but I like the way he speaks on the playing field.
“What do you think about Harbaugh’s floating face?”
Reminds me of the title of one my favorite MAD Magazine’s books: “MAD’s Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions”.
I hope the Niners continue to run, run and run some more on Sunday. Here’s a nice article on Frank:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20130116/nfl-playoffs-frank-gore-49ers/?sct=hp_t14_a7&eref=sihp
Great link, Mood. Glad I chose Gore as the name on the back of my Niner jersey.
Just watched the press conference with CK and the kid is poised and confident. Just win Sunday Kap and you will have arrived!
Dude, you keep saying that every week.
No I have not. The objective for the Niners was Super Bowl or bust this year. Nothin has changed!
Ok Prime
Your welcome!
Kap HAS arrived, big time. The problem is that some few can’t get their minds around the fact that when one arrives there is often one who leaves . No matter if we lose one of the next 2 games Kap has still already arrived and the entire Nation (minus a very few blind Alex only fans) has celebrated his arrival all week long with a party and a parade and by heaping praise on him like no other before him.
So,face the fact that Kap is THE man and move forward with him as YOUR qb OR keep your head in the sand and leave with Alex. Good luck to Alex and to those few fans who can’t embrace Kap as having arrived as your QB ,good luck with your new team too.
…That’s not to say that Kap is a finished product yet by any means. But he has arrived and is staying and that as they say is that.
Tim arrived where? And where did I mention that any of it had to do with Alex? Then again you might have not been replying to me, in that case never mind.
Prime is a AS freak, CK has to win 3 superbowls before he arrives, but who cares what he thinks, our Coach of the year drafted him and that is all that matters.Win or lose, I love Kaep and our team.
No football talk tonight Neal? Just insults and same old material. That’s too bad!
Prime has arrived, your the king of insults and instigation.
“Just win Sunday Kap and you will have arrived!”
He arrived two months ago. He powdered his pimp hand and slapped the remaining doubters on Saturday night. You have been consistently wrong about this kid and should stop with your ever-rising standard for his arrival.
Exactly right Big P, they are holding out till the very end, they can’t enjoy seeing a star being born.
Just one more test P, the chance to go to the big dance in the big easy will prove the kid is in the upper echelon class of QB’s. He is good, but is he great? We will find out Sunday.
The fake test is for the AS freaks, they are holding AS nuts till the last possible section before they have to let go.
Prime:
Kap has arrived in the National consciosness as a new star on the rise. He has arrived as the Niners undisputed QB . He has arrived as the Niners star of the last playoff game who is leading them to the NFC Championship game and probably the SB ! He has arrived as the best QB the Niners have had starting since Steve Young…and he is just getting started.
Win or lose in the next 2 games,he HAS arrived !!!
The problem is that some few Alex only fans have not come with him on the bandwagon that has arrived.
So,either get fully on board or stay on the Alex wagon that is heading out of town, your choice. We have saved plenty of room for you on the Kap bandwagon,so get on board and join in the fun… or,good luck to you and your guy Alex with your new team.
Yeah,Kap won’t arrive until he throws 8 TD passes in the SB…with his left hand …while juggling 5 footballs with his right hand… while playing the piano with his toes. And he better do it all again next year too or we are going back to Alex !!!
Prime,
So now your standard for a second year player is greatness and being an upper echelon QB? A couple months ago you were predicting that he would piss himself on Monday Night Football, during his first start.
Prime Time says:
November 19, 2012 at 8:38 am
“And when Kaepernick comes out and looks like a deer in headlights tonight and coughs up the ball, it will be an epic night cause then finally you haters will realize he is not ready. I can’t wait to see the egg on your faces later this evening.
I hope we win and the kid plays great. I don’t think that happens against a defense like the Bears. If you thought Roman was conservative with Alex, tonight will be like watching paint dry on offense.
I will not be surprised to see Kap try and do too much as he knows this might be his chance to be the starter moving forward. This is not the time and it will hurt the team by him forcing things and not being patient.”
Lol, riiiiiiiiiggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttt!
Once again Tim, where did I mention Alex Smith? The national consensus says that in order to win a Super Bowl you need an elite, upper echelon QB. Well Kaepernick gets that opportunity to solidify himself in this class with a win on Sunday.
Some 49er fans are too quick to annoint after only a half season and one playoff win and labelling Kap as great, elite, legendary, and in the same conversation as Montana & Young. Sorry I am not one of those fans. I will be with a win on Sunday.
So P you never had any doubt? You knew Kap was destined for greatness because so many 2nd year QB’s come in and play like he has?
RIGGGGGGHHHHHHHTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With a win next Sunday you will put Kap in the class with Montana and Young ??? Now you are looking silly indeed, even I wouldn’t be that bold about Kap’s greatness. .
Kap is a rising star who HAS arrived ,but he has a long way to go to get to the hall of fame. Come on Prime, just be reasonable, don’t go crazy.
Just admit that Kap has arrived as a rising star in the League and is YOUR preferred QB now, that’s all. Don’t either dismiss him as not having arrived or put him in the Hall, lol, you can find a happy medium in there somewhere,I hope, lol.
And the fact that you obviously have a mental block against Kap makes us all think it is because you have always wanted Alex to win the job over him and now can’t quite accept the fact that Alex was not good enough to be the long term starter here. You have not come to terms with the reality of the situation quite yet and seem to want to put off admitting you were wrong as long as you possibly can.
Get over it,it’s not like alex was your wife and you are trying to get over a divorce. You have a better QB now,so as a Niner’s fan , just accept it and enjoy it .
Tim if he wins Sunday most definitely the 49ers are winning a Super Bowl, therefore he will be in 49ers folklore with Young and Montana. See for me it’s about winning and winning championships. Thats the true definition of a player. Not regular season games, stats, excitability. Wins baby!
Primetime,
“So P you never had any doubt? You knew Kap was destined for greatness because so many 2nd year QB’s come in and play like he has?”
I never doubted Harbaugh, and I saw the same thing in CK that he and everybody else did. CK is better than Smith and that is why he is the starter. I also never predicted greatness for CK. Never. You, however, predicted that he would fail before he even took the field against the Bears. It’s the post that keeps on giving.
Sure,I want all that stuff too (winning SB’s etc). But for me the fact that we now have an upgrade at QB is also very important, for this coming 2 games and into the future. Harbaugh’s hand picked QB has arrived and has taken his spot as undisputed starter on a SB contending team.
Having a multi threat at QB is a great thing for any team and we now have one. Knowing that Kap has certainly become the upgrade at QB means that Kap has arrived and has filled that weak spot . Now we can start looking at some of the other weak spots on the team and make it an even better team in the years to come, without needing to worry about the QB position any more !
And are you saying Alex never “arrived” because he didn’t win a NFC Championship game or a SB ? I know Alex never arrived for dozens of reasons but I wonder if you will say it about Alex like you are saying it about Kap ? In your book it seems Alex has arrived but now you put a much bigger hurdle in front of Kap than you did your hero Alex ??? Be fair.
And you may not have mentioned Alex but we all know his name was in between every line you wrote. Don’t dance around the issue you are bringing up. Just admit that Kap is better than Alex is and ever will be and move on with joy in your heart that yoiu now have a better team because you have a better QB.
Tim,
Very well said.
P says “I never doubted Harbaugh, and I saw the same thing in CK that he and everybody else did”
So you were at the facility in every meeting, every practice? You knew what Harbaugh knew? Thats funny! Or maybe you knew what half the NFL knew that it was a calculated gamble. Don’t pretend you knew. And don’t pretend that fans can’t be skeptical. I was. But I don’t pretend like you that you knew all along. A lot of people question the timing of the switch. I did because it was unorthodox.
You guys come on here pretending it was valid when without an injury this never happens.
…and having said all that,it is certainly possible that Kap will throw 3 interceptions and fumble a couple and we could lose.Just like we lost Championship games with Joe and Steve several times.
We also lost a couple games against inferior teams this year with Alex having poor games. So why does Kap have to play great in every game for you to acknowledge that he has arrived as the undisputed starter and Franchise QB of the present and future ?
It’s apparent that you believe that if you disrespect Kap you somehow believe it elevates Alex in stature. You are wrong,so stop it !
Prime:
I knew,as JH knew, that Kap would take over at some point and that Alex was never going to be the starter long term,NEVER.
Looking back on the season it is more reasonable to wish that Kap had started from day one and that alex was riding the bench the entire season. If Kap had started he would be a bit more polished right now and we would be an even bigger favorite for the next two games than we already are.
So I admit I was wrong when I wondered if Kap would possibly take a bit longer than he did to get to this point…will you admit that at this point he is a better option than Alex ? Were you wrong when you wanted Alex to continue as I was obviously wrong when I thought Alex should be the starter when the season began ?
Reading minds again Bay, oops, sorry Tim?
Tim says” and having said all that,it is certainly possible that Kap will throw 3 interceptions and fumble a couple and we could lose”
I think that’s called hedging Tim.
The reason Kap has to win on Sunday is to validate Coach Harbaugh’s decision. There is and will always be skepticism about this years biggest decision in the NFL and anything that relates to the QB position in SF.
Tim you can keep throwing this back to Alex Smith vs. Kap and fans of either player but that’s weak. This is about a young aspiring QB who has an opportunity to classify himself with the elite QB’s and Super Bowl winners. Question my motives all you want, what I’m talking about is reality.
But last week you said Kap had to win a playoff game and get us to the same place we got to last year, the NFC Championship game. Now you move the bar once again and say he has to win the Championship game. Then you will say he has to win the SB. Then you will say that he has to do it all again next year with a better reg season win total or maybe you will just quite your nonsense and leave with alex ? Too bad you can’t enjoy the moment like most of the rest of the Niner’s fans ,too bad.
Prime,
Where did I say I knew CK would be great? Where? Here are my words from a few minutes ago, which is obviously longer then you attention span: “I also never predicted greatness for CK. Never.” Harbaugh is the coach and he knows what he is doing. I trust him. You did until he benched Smith for CK. You were eagerly anticipating CK falling apart on MNF and now his measuring stick is excellence . You never expected excellence out of Smith, you were in love with slightly above average. CK arrived two months ago, you just didn’t notice because you were too busy looking for faults.
Tim maybe you can remember me saying it was Super Bowl or bust in the offseason and in season when Alex was starting? Do you remember that?
As far as me raising the bar after we win the SB? Well now that definitely sounds like the mind reading school of Bayarea fanatic! When did you graduate?
…and I am not hedging at all. I am just stating the fact that Kap doesn’t need to comply with any of YOUR unreasonable goals .He has arrived no matter what happens next week or in the SB.
One of the best teams the Niners ever had lost to an inferior Vikings team in the first round of ther playoffs one year,so losing a game we should win doesn’t mean Kap and the rest of the team has not arrived as a true contender .
Stop your silly requirements for Kap “arriving” ,nobody but you is saying that.
I could easily say that putting such silly hurdles up in front of your QB means you have not “arrived” yet as a real 49ers fan,but that would be silly too.
Stop it and experience the joy the rest of us are experiencing.
“The reason Kap has to win on Sunday is to validate Coach Harbaugh’s decision. There is and will always be skepticism about this years biggest decision in the NFL and anything that relates to the QB position in SF.”
Wrong. Harbaugh’s decision was validated last Saturday and everybody knows it.
The difference is that you never said that Alex has not “arrived” and won’t until he wins a SB. You may have said it’s SB or bust for the team but now you are only saying it about Kap. See the difference and see why we all know you are just showing sour grapes about Alex being benched for Kap ?
Stop saying Kap has not arrived until HE does this or HE does that. If you want to say the TEAM has not arrived until they win a SB then that MAY be a valid opinion.See the difference ???
So change the subject because you can’t win this arguement. And I am tired of jousting with you ,since you are not being consistent and honest in your arguements.
Have a good night Prime and GO NINERS ! (I hope we can agree on at least that much !) :)
P says “Where did I say I knew CK would be great? Where?
P says” I never doubted Harbaugh, and I saw the same thing in CK that he and everybody else did”
So you and JH knew all along that CK was the better option. I believe now that JH knew, but you? C’mon man! What’s with you, Bay, 23 thinking that you knew all along. The Niners could have started anyone but Alex and you guys would have been happy and claimed it was a better choice or that you knew this unknown was better. There’s that fortune telling skill you guys all have. Where do I enroll?
Beefcake
You have a sh*tload of egg all over your face tonight. BigP found a post of yours from the first night, the Bears game. Though BigP says he didn’t know Colin had “it” all along, I’m one of the guys that did know it. I came at you hard. You defended your defenseless position just as hard. But now you have egg all over your face. So stop defending yourself. You’re ignorant, and if you have nothing constructive to say, then it’s about time you left quietly, with that tail between your legs.
P.s. every year the Niners don’t win the SB is a busted year, but CK has undoubtedly arrived. He is the new paradigm of NFL superstar QB.
Tim I understand you like to bow out when you don’t like what you hear. Have a good night and a good rest!
Big P, good points and I rspect your position and hopefully you understand mine that I do believe in CK’s ability. My point was that winning Sunday and getting a SB puts him in the elite, upper echelon class of QB’s.
Prime Time,
It was obvious that CK was better than Smith after the Chicago game, which is why Smith never saw the field again. I never predicted greatness for CK, nor did Harbaugh. I never thought CK would see the field this season, nor did I declare he would. The bottom line is he performed very well when he got his shot and he never let go of the reigns. Harbaugh agrees, which is why CK is the starter. So, yes, I saw the same thing in CK that Harbaugh and everybody else did. You did too, otherwise you wouldn’t be demanding excellence from him.
After one game you knew he was great? That’s pretty remarkable. You should apply for a scouting job within the organization.
>>My point was that winning Sunday and getting a SB puts him in the elite, upper echelon class of QB’s.
All very possible. And if so, that has to be some type of record for the length of time it took to happen. Everything about Kaep’s story this year is unprecedented in the history of professional football. That’s why it’s so humorous seeing posters crowing about “I told you so”.
Prime,
Read my post again. Where did I say that he was great or would be great? I said he was better than Smith, which is why he was starting. Stop trying to blur the argument by making crap up. You were dead wrong about CK, plain and simple.
“It was obvious that CK was better than Smith after the Chicago game, which is why Smith never saw the field again. I never predicted greatness for CK, nor did Harbaugh. I never thought CK would see the field this season, nor did I declare he would. The bottom line is he performed very well when he got his shot and he never let go of the reigns.”
Rib,
let me tell you what I KNEW.
I knew Harbaugh pursued Manning.
I knew Smith’s contract made his a stop gap.
I knew CK would be the starter in 2013 ( 2012 was a surprise )
I knew when I watched him in Chicago he was in for good. ( Not because of the passing but because of the escapability and pocket presence.
I also know that no matter what happens at this point win or lose Harbaugh looks like a genius on many levels.
Let me as you this Rib, if I would have told you that the 49ers would sit Smith and start CK. And while CK was the starter the 49ers would lose Manningham, Kyle Williams and Kendal Hunter and Justin Smith. Knowing all of this would you have considered getting to the NFC Championship a tremendous success? Imagine CK guiding his team to this stage of the tournament missing all of those key players.
@Rib
I did tell you so. It wasn’t humorous then and it’s not humorous now. Some of us trust what our eyes and ears tell us. The eyes told me this guy was huge, ripped, fast as hell, strong as hell, and knew how to play the game. The ears told me this guy was smarter than most, hungrier than most, coached by a genius in college, hand picked by a genius in the NFL, and learning under that same genius.
You don’t trust your own eyes and ears. That doesn’t make anything I knew humorous. Maybe you’ll learn to go out on a limb once in a while and make a definitive assessment rather than sitting back in the peloton and waiting for the tide to carry you forward. But probably not.
p.s. what IS humorous? You still maintaining that ridiculous avatar of Billy Cundiff next to your name!
>>Knowing all of this would you have considered getting to the NFC Championship a tremendous success?
Bay, it is a tremondous success no matter what. What you listed, key injuries, key substitutions, makes that success all the more unlikely, amazing and unpredicted. But if it makes you feel the big man, saying you knew it all along, whereas blind, sceptical chumps like myself didn’t, then go for it.
>>I did tell you so.
and the same goes for you, Mr. E
>>You still maintaining that ridiculous avatar of Billy Cundiff next to your name
And further humorous that some fans lack the mental acuity to comprehend that *other* fans like *all* players on the team. And appreciate what each has contributed over this amazing two year run.
But please go on hating though, why change your stripes now?
@ ribico:
The obsession with your avatar cracks me up. Last time I checked, Alex Smith is a member of the SF 49ers. How dare you include in your avatar a photo of one of the team’s players! We won’t stand for it!
The groupthink and demand for conformity on this blog never cease to amaze me.
Rib
I’m not against you. But that Cundiff avatar is a reminder to everyone not that you are a supporter of all the players, just that you are one of the last holdouts to see the truth. As I’ve always maintained, I’m the furthest thing from a hater, gave Alex all I could until this year’s Giants game. Anyone who fully supported him after that game I just don’t understand. It was all right out there for everyone to see: for all the polish that Harbaugh applied to Alex to make him shine, underneath it all, when the pressure came, he would revert to the guy that we all remembered driving us up the wall under NolanTary, the guy who would run backwards away from sackers and fumble the ball by hitting it against his own leg, the guy who would dance around in the pocket and right before getting blasted, look down, close his eyes, and let a pass go to god knows where, picked by the defense. That was the real Alex, and he returned in that Giants game last year, and again this year, and even in that 13-6 Seahawks game.
So that’s the guy you claim led the Niners last year? Really? You should probably rethink everything and realize that on last year’s team, there was a weak link, and that weak link is next to your name. The guy is mediocre at best, W-L record be damned, and you still boast his pic next to your name.
CB
Can you imagine how weird it would be for a guy to have a Steve DeBerg avatar next to his name? That guy was a Niner. It’s just weird. It’s not about conformity, it’s about the question: Why would you want to post THE image of mediocrity next to your name?
Haters gonna hate. Ignorant haters gonna hate ignorantly.
Nah,
I think Rib is a fan. He’s on board with CK. He just doesn’t like being wrong. Hanging on to that avatar of the backup is more about Rib letting us know that he doesn’t like being told what to do.
He’ll get rid of it in the offseason my guess.
Claude
What hate? What ignorance? Why are you trying to pass yourself off as a gangster?
Give a little, salop.
Bay
That’s what I was thinking. Whatever. He’s still associating himself with mediocrity.
I would put up a picture of Ray Wersching, even though he wasn’t all that, because he was funny. Montana, Young, Jones, Lott, Williamson, Wright, Willis, Bowman, Crabs, all those guys because they contributed significantly to the winning ways of the franchise. But to put up a pic of Steve DeBerg?!!! Why?
The only appreciable thing Alex did to help the Niners win was suck long enough to allow the team to compile a great many top draft picks who are now ProBowlers.
@ Mr. E:
What hate? What ignorance?
Your comments since 9:00 am, maudite vache.
Claude
I love that you speak French!!!
But to categorize my righteous speech as hateful ignorance is not so bright. I speak only truth, and the truth based on facts.
Here it is again for you, the unhateful truth of a Niners savant:
I like Alex Smith. He just sucks.
Thanks for making my point for me. Haters gonna hate; ignorant haters gonna hate ignorantly.
Yes, because Steve Deberg gave us such a memorable playoff win.
>>So that’s the guy you claim led the Niners last year?
>>The only appreciable thing Alex did to help the Niners win was suck long enough to allow the team to compile a great many top draft picks who are now ProBowlers.
You are making no sense. But haters rarely do. Let me quote myself, “please go on hating though, why change your stripes now?.”
>>I think Rib is a fan. He’s on board with CK.
Unless you are well into your 40s, I think I was a fan before you were born. And yes, I am on totally board with CK, despite the idiocy from some of his most vocal advocates here.
Claude and Rib
You two make such a nice couple. Maybe you can put your heads together and try to remember the 6 years of Alex Smith pre-Harbaugh. Then remember Smith’s performances against defenses that could get pressure on him. Then just remember how Alex responded to that pressure, pre- and post-Harbaugh.
It’s not hate. It’s being a realist. You two duds are either too stupid or too stubborn to admit it.
Can’t change stupid. Don’t think either of you are stupid. Why keep up this charade? What are you going to say next year and all the years after when Alex never makes a ProBowl and never wins another playoff game because he’ll never have this kind of defense or coaching staff to carry him again? Will you then, finally, admit it?
Rib
You throw out a term like idiocy with unnerving ease! Can you rationally support such a nasty insult? Let’s hear it. Why is someone who vocally supports Kaep, not you, someone who loves Alex, the icon of idiocy? Reason it for us…
Pork,
Try to find some middle ground instead of taking one extreme point of view.
Kap is a better talent than Smith and I don’t think anyone is saying otherwise. That doesn’t mean Smith sucked. It means a really special talent has taken over and Smith will be moving on. Why you feel the need to deride the guy after the stretch he’s had here under Harbaugh is beyond me. It’s like your dislike for Young. Doesn’t make any sense.
>>Can you rationally support such a nasty insult? Let’s hear it.
Too easy, Mr. E. Simple example one post above:
“Maybe you can put your heads together and try to remember the 6 years of Alex Smith pre-Harbaugh.”
Slamming on AS, pre-Harbaugh, without taking into account, or mentioning, the woeful state of the entire team pre-Harbaugh is the epitome of idiocy.
Haters can’t change their stripes. Nor, apparently, can idiots.
@ rocket, ribico:
For whatever reason, PBL/Mr. E has resumed his trolling ways. Hell, he’s practically quoting 23welcher verbatim. He knows what he is saying is b/s, but he likes to instigate. I guess it’s entertainment for him.
Hopefully Alex4Pres shows up soon, and the two of them can battle it out in some remote corner – assuming of course that Alex4Pres isn’t a hoax perpetrated by Mr. E.
Either way, this is boring. I’d rather talk about Sunday’s game.
Claude
It’s not BS. Alex was way overvalued as a draft pick, couldn’t play to save his life before Harbaugh, played really well under easy circumstances with Harbaugh, yet reverted back to his natural state whenever faced with a pass rush of any ferocity.
What I really think is that Alex is a top-15 QB in the league, better than 18 because he is smarter and less prone to make mistakes (but that is only since Harbaugh). For instance, Smith is better than Romo.
But that doesn’t mean he belongs anywhere near the Niners. Our team has always had, and has again, a QB to be proud of. Hell, even Steve Young finally won a single measly SB.
It’s nice to have a born winner taking snaps again. Been missing that around here since #16 was shipped out of town.
CK is extremely impressive on how he handles himself with the Media! I love his responses. GO CK take it to the next level.
Mike Nolan says:
The quarterback doesn’t count …
Of course, I took that comment completely out of context, but it’s fitting for that HC wannabe.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/nolans-run-defense-faces-big-49ers-challenge
He also called Greg Roman “Greg Norman” yesterday. So it seems Nolan is still out of touch with what is going on all around him.
Do you remember when he was head coach here, he was quoted as saying that he liked the smell of the building? Or something like that. Guy is a little off.
Grant I posted a link to Gwen Knapp’s article about CK – it seems to be stuck in your spam filter. It’s a very good read if you can free it.
Grumpy
Maybe Claude Balls will cut and paste that link for you :)
I’d rather have a legitimate link pasted for analysis than 20 blowhard opinions based on nothing. Obviously your mileage varies.
Apparently, facts are a nuisance for some people.
What’s funny is that Nick took that particular shot at me immediately below a comment in which he cut and pasted a link and a quote from the linked article. I couldn’t have scripted that better.
What? No ESPN Insider links to cut and paste?
@ Nick:
I am not in the habit of linking to ESPN Insider articles. Apparently, you are still confused.
Ribico,
Here’s a link for you: http://gravatar.com
It’s time to change that ‘Alex is #1′ avatar to Alex is #2. Buwahaha

In that case, I apologize

Cam Inman reported an interesting stat today …
This season Kap has thrown 4 interceptions and in every case on the very next drive he led his team to a TD ,4 out of 4 times !
Alex has thrown 5 interceptions on the year and in the next drives after those interceptions he led his team to ZERO TD’s !
And that leaves out the fact that every mistake Kap has made (fumble /safety,etc) this year that has hurt his team he has led his team to a score of some sort on the very next drive 100% of the time.
I think the Alex stat goes back through last year as well. – Just to accentuate the difference in approach.
Got bored and couldn’t help myself. This is from game 3, the

Mike,
I couldn’t agree more. All this sympathy for Smith. It’s a business. If you can’t get it done, step aside and allow someone else to get it done. Alex has hit his ceiling. Honestly, when you see Smith complete that stick throw that he threw to moo in the end zone. He overthrows that pass 99% of the time. Smith can’t make that throw and he’s still sailing it. Mike, it’s a reality. Gotta give Kap some reps. Jets defense is much better than the Vikings. Can you see Smith throwing to Crabtree at all while Crabtree is on Revis Island??

You guys are crazy!! you’d be tossing away the season if you did that. CK needs to sit and watch, he’s not ready. AS is the QB and is better than what waa shown today. get real, you sound really dumb by making those statements!!
One more. Hahaha!

Smithers are miserable today. Same old story. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. When will you guys get it. He’s not the answer. He can’t get it done? We are not going to a super bowl with this game manager at QB. that downfield weakness is about to be exploited by every defense we see for the rest of this year. The sooner we get him off the field, the better. Sing took Smiths diaper off today, sorry Smithers. Time for Smith to step aside and let Kap have the reigns. We need a QB that can use the whole football field and not just 15 yards in front of us. This is not pee wee football. he can’t throw downfield!!!!!
Find one from the great and marvelous Sycophantick Romantick, will ya?
Or the one where you stated Josh Johnson would be the starter. Maybe the one where you stated that Kaep was not the answer.
Sean,
too many examples where you said Smith was the answer for you to jump into the fray….
I do think they could win with Smith. Neither here nor there now. The team has proven they can win with either. Just curious as to where the examples of Jordan proclaiming that JJ was the answer and Kaep was not.
@ bay:
How does Sean’s opinion on Alex Smith disqualify him from pointing out the welcher’s hypocritical bandwagon-jumping?
Since it’s now apparently socially acceptable to repost 23welcher’s comments, please allow me:

Josh Johnson will be the 2nd string QB on this team. Kap is not the answer.
Then, after rocket called jordan out for dismissing Kaepernick prematurely, he gave us this gem:

Rocket,
I thought you were a bit more football savvy than that. Teams don’t give players $500k signing bonuses as favors for the head coach. Johnson was signed because he can help this team win and he will. Can’t wait until preseason starts so he can outshine smith. Kap may as well be trade bait. He won’t be playing this year. Lost a tad bit of credibility big rocket.
I always laugh when 23welcher comments on others’ football savvy and credibility. It’s like Manti Te’o criticizing someone’s dating habits.
Glass houses and all that.
LMAO!
Lol, beware of speaking in absolutes!
But he told us all!
I think we should start alex for the nfcc game he has experience in that game,he has played atl in that ga dome and if it wasn’t for the 2 fumbles and Alex completing 1 pass to a wr would would have won last year. signed prime time
I remember watching a game years back and seeing a tall frail kid come in for a New England legend in the height of a Superbowl running team. I saw him come in and carve up defenses with short a curate passes with no fear at all. That frail kid went on with not a full season under his belt yet to lead his team to a Superbowl win that the veteran New England legend never could.
Does this look familiar so far to anyone else? Minus the local legend part. Just sayin
If CK throws 5 pick 6′ to the Falcons defense, fumbles 5 times, runs the wrong way for a touch-back or just to condense this; helps the Falcons to about 10 touchdowns, he will still be our starter next year.
CK has nothing left to prove. As far as I’m concerned, he won the starting QB position in games against the Bears and the Saints.
I have little doubt that every player on the team has come to acknowledge that CK is ‘Da Man.’
I honestly don’t believe that anyone on this planet (well, football world) can truthfully say that AS can do as much or better than CK.
We tend to forget that CK only has half a season of on-field experience behind him. No one can estimate the limits of his potential.
Harbaugh knew what he was doing when he made the change. Whether people hop on the CK train or not will have no bearing on Harbaugh’ decisions past, present, and future.
A few want to place our SB hopes on CK in order to give him his due.
Hmmm, I wonder who those few posters are?
Ummm, does the term “Usual Suspects” ring a bell? (lol)
One says that there is no mention of Alex Smith in his posts, but yet uses the championship game as a measuring stick to prove out CK.
If that doesn’t apply a AS in their context I’m believing that Mant’i actually had a real girlfriend.
Also, if we’re going to split hairs on the AS/CK championship game standard, at least be fair by saying that AS lost to a lower seed while CK is going against the #1 seed.
Why are you arguing against a straw man?
Kaep has definitely shown enough to be the starter going forward. Shouldn’t be any question about that.
I was satisfied immediately after the Bears game. Just based on pocket presence and eluding the pass rush while keeping his eyes down field.
Jaguars have hired Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley as Head Coach.
Speaking of the Seahawks, where are all the Seahawk fan trolls this week? They’ve been strangely silent.
Ya know having lost to them 42-13 the last time we played we hardly have a leg to stand on when it comes to mocking the chickens. Maybe wait until we beat them next before trying to shove their nose into something that doesn’t smell too pretty.
Doesn’t matter that the Niners lost to them. They are out and the Niners are in. That’s all that matters. Philly walloped our last SB team at the Stic;, didn’t matter after the season.
If Atl blows us out then it will absolutely matter.
Um series was split this season. 1-1 and now they are done. I think trash talking is in order.
You thought they’d pass on Roman, too, right?
I missed there. I thought they were going to prolong interviews so they could bring him in.
This may be one of the benefits of a prolonged post season run.
This one surprises me. I was in the camp that thought the Jags were waiting for Roman. Only one job left and it’s in AZ. Bruce Arians is rumored to be the favorite but nothings happened yet. Could Roman be a possibility for the Cards?
^ I was thinking the same although I’m not sure about the Cardinals, would it be considered a faux pas for an assistant to go head coach a divisional opponent?
Wow, Roman must be pissed at his former roommate.
Wow, comments section had zip about football and all about he said, she said. Pretty sad commentary on some who post here.
I wonder if the Falcons will actually try to injure CK to get him either out of the game or out of rhythm? What happened to that big wind-up he had last year? I’ve been a CK fan since I caught him on teevee beating the stuffing out of some college team when he was in Reno. Here was this tall drink of water with the name of a German pharmacist and a middle-eastern face slinging and running like I had never seen before. How cool is that?! And the fact that he grew up in the Central Valley makes the story all the better…
@ IP:
You don’t have to wonder. It’s part of their plan.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/niners/2013/01/16/atlanta-falcons-want-to-blow-up-san-francisco-49ers-quarterback-colin-kaepernick/1840031/
Great link Claude. Some critics are saying that CK is just a running QB. I dont think so but if the Falcons are smart, they will make CK beat them from within the pocket as the article talks about.
I think people just want to see CK beat a team with his arm exclusively to prove he is not a running QB. I dont think thats accurate because it looks like the kid will take whatever the defense gives him. I am most interested to see how the Falcons defend our offense this Sunday.
“He hinted the Falcons might utilize a spy — a defensive player dedicated to shadow Kaepernick to keep him from getting outside and running for long gains.”
That spy better have sprinter’s speed combined with a big physical presence to keep Kaep contained. Does such a player exist on the F’s D?
Weatherspoon might be able to do it, but if I’m Nolan I am using a safety and taking my chances with one on one coverage with Vernon or Moss. That does not sound smart either but pick your poison?
@ FDM:
I think people just want to see CK beat a team with his arm exclusively to prove he is not a running QB.
Didn’t he already do that against Chicago? And New England? And Arizona?
I think he did Claude but why are people saying he is a running QB? I dont agree but like CK said he has always been categorized as a running QB. Maybe that label will follow him forever, I dont get it.
@ FDM:
… but why are people saying he is a running QB?
Because he runs better than every other QB in the league (ever?), and those people are intellectually lazy.
Claude,
You calling Hofer intellectually lazy. He certainly feels like Kap is a running QB. I think you are intellectually lazy because you’re a cut and paster. Prime time is just lazy period. But he ain’t too proud to get on his hands and knees and beg. How do you think he got back up here on the blog?
I think when Kaep primarily sits in the pocket it’s part of the game plan and when he runs more frequently like this last game it’s also part of the game plan.
I actually think we lean heavily on the run this game with Gore and La Michael. Hope Abraham plays so that we can run right at him…
Nah, QBs that set the NFL single game record for yardage gained running the ball are not running QBs. So that makes them what, standing QBs?
“Running QB” is not a knock. It’s a fact.
@ ribico:
I hear you, but there’s typically an unstated “merely” in front of the phrase or at least a belief that “running QB” tells you what you need to know about the QB’s game.
To expand on what Claude wrote about the implied “merely,” the term “running quarterback” has, at least to date, been used dismissively more often than not. This is especially true in the context of Super Bowl success, as in “QB X is a running QB and no running QB has ever won the Super Bowl….” In fact, not too many weeks past, there were a cadre of posters here espousing just such a view with regard to Kaepernick.
Just to take the temperature of the room:
What about the term ‘dual-threat’? will anyone’s panties get bundled if we call CK a dual threat QB?
It’s been said here before I believe, but there is a difference between a running QB and a QB who can run. Kap is a QB who can run but he’s not adverse to sitting in the pocket and throwing it downfield. Steve Young was the same way. If the field opens up with DB’s running away from him with their backs turned, Kap is going to take it. He’s also going to look downfield for as long as possible to make a throw. He is equally adept at both which is not only amazing for how little he’s played, but makes it extremely difficult to defend him.
@claude, then I can’t wait for those teams or fans thereof to cry out in amazement, we just got blown away by a mere running QB.
This whole thing reminds me of the “finesse” label of the Walsh years. I have no problem with labels others think are derogatory, I took great satisfaction that finesse would put down physical time after time.
@dangle. “dual” is limiting too. ;) How about “multi-faceted”? Or to use a Harbaugh-ism, “number of threats unknown to mankind”. Too unwieldy? :)
@JPN:
It’s good to see you posting. It will help improve the ratio of thoughtful comments to ignorant ones.
Thanks, Claude.
Perhaps “multivariate threat” would be right term for Kaep.
*the right term
JPN,
Good word. I think the cumulative IQ of this forum just increased significantly.
@ JPN:
Too many syllables for me. Until something better comes along, I’m going with “F@#%ing Awesome.”
See what I mean about the need for intelligent/thoughtful comments?
Even blitzing will not help the Falcons. I’ve never seen a QB escape the blitz straight up the middle as Kap did vs. GB. No regular QB can do that. It takes a special type of awareness and agility to do that.
Let’s crush those birds this week!
It also helped that on that play they were in man defense and the secondary and middle of the field were wide open. CK was decisive and took great advantage of that and you’re right — faster than any other qb I can think of.
But you can pretty much count on not seeing man defense in Atlanta. They’ll play zone which CK has not played as well against. There won’t be as much of him running,, but Gore, yes, and CK passing, yes.
My concern with Kaep was he was just another running qb, like Vick or Young, but he has definitely shown to be more. His running is in his arsenal but it doesn’t seem to be what he immediately goes to. Looks to use it more to buy time then to just bolt over the line of scrimage. Being wrong about things isn’t always bad.
That third down pass to Gore early in last week’s game is a great example. The play broke down, and he was looking like he was going to bolt, but he kept his arm cocked, and his head up, eyes downfield, and he made a beautiful touch-pass to Gore for a 45 yarder. To me, that was the play of the game.
+1
Absolutely Angus. That’s the play that I was thinking of too.
Great article from Mike Sando that puts the Colin Kaepernick phenomenon in perspective.
As others have noted, what Kaepernick is doing is unprecedented.
Cballs that is a great article, thanks for the link.
Perspective is good, and makes it even more awesome
@ dangle:
I thought so.
I do’nt get what the big deal about having Alex Smith as your avatar is. If i had larry grant as my avatar that would’nt mean that i think he should start over Bowman or Willis it justs means i’m a larry Grant fan. Now if Smith leaves the team next year and you still have him as your avatar then i would question your loyalties.
Untill then do’nt we all root for all the 9ers, some of my favorites over the years have been backups. Go CK and Go AS a sprained ankle could turn AS into the most important player on the team.
^This^
Old Coach
What if your team gave Larry Grant $50M, and he set your team back 5 years, and all he ever did was lose until a genius coach arrived, but still he lost when the season was on the line, and whenever pressure came his way? Would you really put his picture up?
^^^
That
Mr. E,
Do you like my new avatar? Sure, Steve DeBerg was no Joe Montana, but he was the master of play action fakes.
JPN
Awesome! Thanks for bringing some humor ;)
MR.E The best player has’nt always been my favorite player. I’ve been a 9er fan for about 52 yrs and some of the players i rooted hardest for were guys with little ability they just caught my fancy for one reason or another. Case in point Gary Lewis RB in the early\mid 60′s never a star but for some odd reason my favorite. I’m a blind faith 9er fan love my team and love the players. its easy to do and you will feel better
I actually have always liked Steve DeBerg. He was a competent QB who was as tough as nails. He even had brilliant games from time to time, and he had two really good seasons with the Chiefs. And he really did excel at play action. But, he was always the guy who was good enough until a better QB was ready.
What if your team gave Larry Grant $50M, and he set your team back 5 years, and all he ever did was lose until a genius coach arrived, but still he lost when the season was on the line, and whenever pressure came his way? Would you really put his picture up?
If you’re going to hate on the guy at least get the story right.
Smith didn’t set the franchise back; bad Coaching and personnel decisions did. There’s also the matter of him missing nearly two seasons with shoulder injuries which you seem to like to gloss over.
Here’s the reality of the situation Pork: Smith didn’t ask to come to a disfunctional organization that couldn’t get it’s act together. He didn’t ask for a shoulder injury that nearly ended his career. He also didn’t fumble two punts deep in his own end that gave the Giants 10 points and a victory in the NFCCG. Your beliefs don’t fit with what actually transpired Pork, and that’s why you are finding all of this resistence to what you are trying to pass off.
>>I actually have always liked Steve DeBerg. He was a competent QB who was as tough as nails.
And he showed moxie wearing that bulky amplifier apparatus on his back while playing with laryngitis. I did feel bad for him when he’d drive the team down the field, only to be pulled for Montana once they reached the red zone.
Rocket
I’m aware of all that history. But Smith’s recent responses to pressure (i.e. Giants, Seahawks) were revealing and inexcusable. If you’re going to correct the picture, include the whole picture.
Just when I thought I was out, you pull me back in.
If you’re so interested in telling the whole story, why do you conveniently leave out last season’s six come from behind victories when discounting Smith’s response to pressure? I’d say the Philly, Detroit and New Orleans (the season was on the line in that game too) games say as much if not a lot more than do the Giants and Seahawks games this year.
>>But Smith’s recent responses to pressure (i.e. Giants, Seahawks) were revealing and inexcusable.
You mean the team lost to the defending Champions. Jeez, I don’t think that has ever happened in the history of the 49ers. Or even the league. And changing QBs didn’t exactly cure that response to the Seahawks pressure either, did it?
Talk about excluding parts of the picture.
BTW Kaep called, he doesn’t want to be further embarrassed by haters using his nickname.
Pressure as in Clemons or Pierre-Paul, not as in the clock winding down. Sacks, picks, etc…
Justin Smith won the Eagles game, btw.
C & R
You clowns are just defending Smith to be noble. You’re noble. Move on.
Smith played a lousy game against the Giants Pork. No doubt about it, but you are placing far to much significance on one game while overlooking everything else. Aaron Rodgers got blasted by those same Giants this year. It happens. The Seattle game came 4 days after that loss to the Giants and the whole team looked out of sorts. Smith wasn’t great but he wasn’t terrible. He made one bad decision that resulted in a pick but other than that he played the game they needed to hold on to a victory.
That’s what it’s about at the end of the day or at least should be and Smith won a lot of games over the last season and half including a playoff game. You are categorizing him based on small examples, while ignoring the overall body of work.
When blowhard dicks make assinine claims like “he set your team back 5 years” it’s not nobility that responds. It’s just common sense.
Rocket
What you say is true. I get it. But the Giants game had 3 picks in it. Ugly ones. Ugly picks reminiscent of pre-Harbaugh Smith. It wasn’t like Rodgers, because Rodgers is an MVP, a champion. Smith wilted. No more wilting Niners QBs!
Finally, no more wilting.
Rib
Smart guy, the word is asinine.
Mike and Mike drafted quality players and fixed the weak team mentality, respectively.
Give Harbaugh 99% of the credit for turning Smith’s career around.
Mr, E, the extra s is for dumb$hit.
>>Give Harbaugh 99% of the credit for turning Smith’s career around.
I give Harbaugh 100% credit for turning the entire team around. That team mentality, supposedly improved under M & M, somehow never posted anything close to a winning record. They tantalized in 2010, but couldn’t get over the hump. And thank god, a playoff appearance at .500 would have meant another year of Singletary.
Rib
You really are a joke, the way you continue to fight for Alex Smith’s honor. Enough now. You’re an Alex fan. We get it. Your Billy Cundiff avatar says it all.
So you have to hate on a player on the team in order to not be a joke in Mr E’s world. We get that too.
Yeah, I am a fan. If somehow the Falcons do to our Mr Everything what they say they will, you’d better be a fan too.
OK, enough sniping. The fanbase needs to have complete positive energy heading into this weekend.
I feel you in that Ribs! Are you going to the game?
Cleveland has hired Norv Turner as OC. Might be a good landing spot for Smith.
Can hear it now, “Alex Smith throws it for a touchdown to Alex Smith”
Ever since Reid signed on with K.C. i’ve been suggesting that the Browns are the best spot for Alex. The Browns could have been in contention for the tournament this season if they’d had an efficient safe QB like Smith. They have a strong running game and a good defense that potentially could be very good. Alex had his best non-Harbaugh coached season in 2006 when Norv was the OC so there’s now another reason for him to sign up.
What the Browns need to do next is to keep Dick Jauron as their DC and just find themselves a QB that wont turn over the ball, i.e. Alex Smith.
I don’t think Cleveland will give up on Weeden that quickly. Under Norv Turner, I expect Weeden to improve and believe that he has a higher ceiling than Alex Smith.
Nick you’d say a 3′ box has a higher ceiling then Smith. Seeing as how Weeden didn’t even have a good year and that he’s a year older then Smith and just starting out I cant see how it’s even possible to suggest his ceiling could be higher Alex’s.
Nick i have to disagree with you there i think he and Smith r the same age and Turner had Smith playing pretty damn good in his second yr on a team that had NO talent.
Also i do’nt think it would be giving up on Weeden it would be brining in competion at a very good price. I know i will be rooting for the trade a 3rd rd pick from the browns would be pretty incredible.
Jack,
You don’t think the Brown’s will stick with Weeden? I think they will give Norv at least a year with him to see what he can do.
From what I’ve read the owner doesn’t have a lot of love for Weeden. Missing out on RG3 and then subsequently not drafting Tannehill after it turned out that he didn’t suck cost the front office their jobs.
Even if he’s still on the roster you can expect that they’ll either draft a QB high or sign a veteran like Smith to compete with Brandon. As far as I’m concerned Smith would easily win that competition.
Jack does cleve have a receiver named Alex Smith? If they do and that hook up was ever to happen i wonder if that would be the first time in nfl history?
I think he is a TE.
Browns HC said he wants a downfield passing offense. That’s not Alex Smith.
Versus a lateral passing game?
Versus a lateral passing game? Aren’t all passes “down field” passes?
He should be more concerned with winning than an aerial attack. Alex can win games in the NFL. But cue the it was the defense, coaching, and special teams reply.
drat victim of the dreaded double post, gotta hit that stop button faster next time if i’m gonna try and add stuff.
CFC
Quit being contrary. You know WCO is called short-passing game. Al Davis liked downfield passing. Norv Turner is a downfield guy and Browns coach used, verbatim, the term I offered.
If you say that Norv is a “downfield” guy then Alex must be as well given their success together in 2006.
CFCS
Alex under Norv:
2,890 yards
16 TDs
16 INTs
Pitiful. Alex is not a downfield threat.
Smiths strength is throwing sidwways. Funny how everyone felt like he played so much better under Turner. He was still below average. Just about 180 yards a game. All of a sudden Smiths likely destinations appear to be disappearing.
Nothing more pathetic than guys who wanted Smith gone are still talking about him when the team is one game away from the Super Bowl.
Nothing better to do than trash a guy who was nothing but class during his time here. Wow!
Prime, don’t expect classess haters don’t change their stripes just because the team changed QBs.
Prime,
I thought of something more pathetic. You begging your way back up onto this blog after you got banned. Now that was pathetic!
23 I’m curious where and when I begged anyone to come back on this blog? You live in a strange world 23 where if you tell lies you think they eventually become true. Thats pathetic!
Prime, you’re talking about classless?!!! Really? The guy who got banned for the cancer comment? Seriously?!!!
Look who showed up, peanut gallery spewing his usual lies. What’s the matter E? Havin a lonely day?
@ Mr. E:
Yeah, guys who get kicked off this site are the lowest.
Prime
You were asking Grant for his email address over and over again after you mocked Clem’s wife’s cancer and Grant was constantly erasing you. Did you forget that? That was begging. It looked really pathetic.
Prime
Obviously you still haven’t figured out what gave you away as Santa. It was your avatar. This avatar program runs on a code that is based on the email you provide. No two are the same, unless they come from the same email. You mocked Clem’s wife’s cancer and were banned.
Claude
Absolutely. The lowest of the f*cking low. The filth of the f*cking earth!
Mr E, how about telling the board what you had to do to get your banhammer lifted. It might come in handy as a reference.
Children, children!!!! if you do’nt stop this fighting i will pull this car over!!!!
Rib
Sure thing bud. I left for a while, considered why I was spewing such vitriol at Jordo on a daily basis in defense of Alex Smith, realized Alex Smith wasn’t worth defending, then came back to discuss football issues, and never again used such outrageous words towards others on here again, especially Grant or Lowell, both of whom are confirmed Alex Smith haters.
Chew on that mouthful.
See prime. I told you that it was pathetic. I have to admit. Your silence was golden prime. You were and are the joke of the blog. You’re one rung below BS. She bowed out gracefully. You wouldn’t leave. You know its not too late. Ill accept your resignation. It shouldn’t bother you. You’re not a niner fan anyway.
Easily Prime is the largest douche on the blog. Lets not digress though. We are one game away from the superbowl.
On paper we should win by 14 points.
Atlanta has an aging running back. They have the 29th ranked rushing offense in 2012. Turner has had one good game in his last 5. That was against Seattle who was missing Clemens.
Atlanta has a defense that was already rated pretty poorly and they are missing their top sack guy.
They have to attempt to stop our 4th ranked rushing attack.
Atlanta on paper just looks too one dimensional on offense and is lacking the defensive line to severely impact what we do on offense.
We are going to have to severely choke to not pull this one out.
You guys are just bitter because when it boils down to football, you can’t hang. Therefore resort to name calling and hating. Sad but true time and time again. Even when I don’t insult you guys it touches a nerve and blast off! Prime owns you kids!
Prime
You’re the last Alex Smith holdout. That pretty much sums up your football knowledge.
Unlike you guys I have not mentioned or brought up anything Alex related. But of course you and your lies matter so what ever you say E. Enjoy your lonely day!
@ PBL/E:
So, what you are saying is that you are like a born again Christian or a reformed smoker.
That explains a lot.
Prime/douche,
too many lines were crossed. You want to come in here and just start talking football that doesn’t work for me. The stink is permanently stuck on you….
The only line I crossed Bay was exposing your lack of intelligence when it comes to football. Too many times I made you look silly and you are just sour grapes. I get it and for the record and not once would I care to discuss football or the weather with you!
Prime Slime Welcher beggar. That explains you in 3 words. This place was great without you and your sister, at least she with dignity instead of begging. Any jokes about cancer or Bay’s boys loser.
Jack what happened to the blog Niners chatter? Crash and burned or just lazy?
Looks like Prime is back with his insults, your the most pathetic troll on the site, begging a 25 year old kid, to get back on here, your a real joke, making fun of people who have cancer along with telling Bays’ kid they play like girls, no doubt that you have no children along with no wife and no life. Must suck to be you.
Another member who I own, Neal welcome bitter boy!
You own squat, certainly not me, your ego is a big as Candle Stick Park, but your life accomplishments is that of a loser. Life must sucked when you are a AS freaked.
Well then i am definetly rooting for A. Smith to go to the browns for that reason alone. Along with the fact that the browns pick in the 3rd rd could be as low as #6 that would give us 3 or 4 picks in the 3rd rd. Lets start the trade talks.
Here’s how those talks will go:
Browns: We’ll give you nothing and just wait for you to cut him since everybody knows you wont keep a back up QB with that kind of salary on the team and since you have zero leverage no one else is going to offer you anything either.
49ers: …
Coffee that works only if there are’nt 2 teams interested. I imagine they will give Smith agent the authority to contact teams about a trade and i have a feeling[ especially with the QB depth in this draft] that there will be more than one team whith interest. IMHO
CFC
Your argument has a hole. The Niners’ current contract with Smith is extremely favorable to whatever team controls it. Not only does it pay little, but it also gives the team ultimate power to cut or keep Alex after only one year. Alex will not sign as bad a contracts that again.
If the 49ers had any leverage then I’d agree with you but they really don’t because everyone knows that unless Smith slashes his contract there is pretty much zero chance the 49ers won’t cut him. Even if multiple teams are in fact interested in him they’ll still wait for him to be cut and then simply start negotiations, if they want him then they’ll pay him rather then pay him AND give up a draft pick if they were to work a trade instead.
I think a team trading for him might pay alot less than a team bidding for him and with what i’m hearing about the cap over the next 3 yrs [ no cap expansion] cap room will become far more important than draft picks
The ability to trade Alex, together with his relatively modest contract, is the only reason a trade would be considered. It’s got, I believe, 1 more year with a team option for a third (I’m not really sure about it really).
All that been said, I expect him to be released as a gesture of good faith, so he can negotiate on his terms where he goes and for how much. Free agents, and their agents, pay attention to how players are treated in this regard. Letting Alex walk from an unfortunate situation for him makes San Fran more attractive to other players….
Angusin i agree but i think first they will give his agent the right to try and workout a trade. Which would be a win win for the player and the team.
Thanks for the link Claude!

No. What it means is I took a hint, accepted that this place is not a forum for swearing and deep insults, and tried to remember that. You, for all your faults in supporting #11, have never wavered from the borderline respectful, which I admire. That and the French abilities.
Mr. E:
What it means is I took a hint, accepted that this place is not a forum for swearing and deep insults, and tried to remember that
I might have bought that if I hadn’t been here for your “DSL” campaign.
Supporting a player on your favorite team isn’t anything to be faulted for. I can’t say the same for attacking a player with willfully ignorant b/s.
Drop it Claude. DS is gone, only after using plenty of pseudo-pejoratives to describe anyone who dissed Alex. My little tiffs with him were due. I’m sure you don’t align yourself with that crazy dude.
You don’t call names, which is decent, but you’re still hung up on Alex. You obviously won’t accept the truth (Harbaugh makes Alex) until you see him flail for the rest of his career the same way he did before Harbaugh arrived. I’m fine letting you live in the dark for as long as you want.
My comment wasn’t about DS. It was about me not believing your pious claim to have seen the light. There aren’t many insults deeper than the ones you hurled gleefully at DS.
Well, you clearly don’t remember the sh*t I was saying to Jordo then. We done here?
Same old Alex smith talk. Really??? REALLY???? C’mon guys what does it look like to our fanbase to have some idiot Falcons, Seahawks or Packers fans on here reading comments of 49er fans arguing about Alex FN Smith?
IMO the poison is gone (ds and onelame) and Alex smith isn’t starting. What on earth would keep anyone’s mind off of Sunday?
Bury the past! J23 has been wrong, prime has been wrong, Hoff has been wrong, bay has been wrong, Claude has been wrong, old coach has been wrong, Adam has been wrong, big p has been wrong, jack has been wrong, rocket has been wrong, ribico had been wrong. I’VE been wrong.
See how we all have two things in commen?
Lets go guys: put on your favorite lucky clothing item, get your lucky seat ready, do what you have to do for a win Sunday. And lets ALL hopefully enjoy a victory on Sumday and celebrate the first Superbowl apperence since 1994/95…..
Bottom line is if we win the Superbowl CK and Alex Smith had a big part in helping and BOTH deserve credit for it and should rightfully wear their championship rings. The end now lets win on Sunday!!!!!!!! Wheeeeeeeew!!
