Mike Shumann may have never enjoyed himself

By BOB PADECKY

Mike Shumann, the sports anchor at KGO-TV for the last 19 years, was a wide receiver for the 49ers on their first Super Bowl team.

“It was in the middle of Super Bowl week and (former 49ers’ backup quarterback) Guy Benjamin and I were tired of being asked the same questions,” said Shumann, 57.

“So we switched name tags when we started our team interviews at the hotel,” Shumann said. “Guy Benjamin never sounded so good.”

The gambit worked for a while until a reporter thought that maybe Shumann didn’t look like a quarterback and Benjamin didn’t look like a wide receiver.

They switched back their name tags as guilt overcame Shumann.

“I felt horrible about it,” Shumann said, “for a while.”

That’s funny . I could totally see Schu doing stuff like that.

That’s probably the best headline I’ve seen on the Press Democrat yet.
