The Seahawks were my pick to win last week in DC, but I don’t see them winning this week in Atlanta. They have another long road trip, plus fatigue from their game on Sunday, and that injury to Chris Clemons – he tore his ACL and he is out.
I think the heat really is on the Falcons, especially offensively. Matt Ryan is the toast of the town, but has laid nothing but goose eggs in the playoffs. With Clemons out, the Seahawks pass rush should be no big deal. Ryan will have more than enough time to sit in the pocket and read the field.
Julio Jones and Roddy White will be the ultimate test for the Seahawks corners. And look for Tony Gonzales to be big a factor.
On the other side of the ball, Mike Nolan is a terrific defensive coordinator. He will outcoach the Seahawks mediocre offensive coordinator, Darrell Bevell.
The matchups, travel and injury factor all work against the Seahawks this week, so I’m picking the Falcons.

49ers RSS feed
Hope you’re right! I loathe the Seahawks.
We all do, but as a Niners fan if the Seahawks can pull of this win (and we win) it would be huge for us. We would face an exhausted Hawks teams, at Candlestick, that has already exceeded expectations. 9ers would be pissed about how the last game played out. Would be an easier and much juicer match up for us then going into Atlanta.
My picks for the week. I am going for all of the home teams
Falcons over the Hawks.
Pats over Tex
Denver over stabby and Balt
SF over GB.
Why do you loathe the hawks?
Matt
I loathe the Hawks because their entire existence is captured in two telling moments, frozen in time… the first was when Hasselbeck was given the microphone after winning a coin flip and the second was when Hasselbeck took his first snap in the following overtime.
Cocky, yet born losers.
Grant if that prediction is right and the 49ers win Saturday I guess you will be predicting them to beat the niners in the NFC championship. Seattle has better corners than we do and we will be traveling across the country also. I think on our field a bitter taste in our mouth from the last Seahawk lose the 49ers will win easily against the Seahawks. They would have to travel 3 games in a row with a rookie qb who is bound to have a bad game. Plus there offense is not a threat like Atlanta they have 3 1000 yard receivers and almost 1000 yard back.
Wilson didn’t exactly have a good game in Washington.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/88141/qbr-ranks-imagine-if-wilson-plays-well
Grimey,
Wilson certainly didn’t have a bad game either.
Actually, for him, he played pretty well, considering it was a road game. Not to mention that it was his first playoff appearance.
Maybe you didn’t click on the link I provided. Here’s an excerpt.
“Wilson completed 2 of 7 passes in the red zone. He fumbled in Seattle territory while trailing 14-3 and was fortunate teammate Marshawn Lynch made a one-handed recovery. Wilson also took five sacks, including three on third down, when his QBR score was 2.1, down from a league-leading 89.5 from Week 8 through Week 17.”
Grimey,
Yes, I did read the entire article. What you’re missing is that I said his performance wasn’t bad for him, since it was a road game. He typically plays poorly on the road. Therefore, a game in which is QB rating is in the low 90′s is pretty good.
Judging a QB’s play goes way beyond passer rating. And in the last part of the season Wilson had much improved road performances.
Grimey,
Yes, judging a QB’s performance is more than just looking at QB rating. But take a look at the QB rating stat. It does a pretty good job of itentifying the best QB’s in any given era.
And since you brought up things outside the QB rating stat, how about the critical yards and first downs Wilson picked up on the ground? Those were pretty important, weren’t they?
I don’t know if you watched the game, but Wilson looked pretty good for a rookie, on the road, in his first playoff game.
I watched the game and watched a lot of Seahawks football this year and Russell Wilson is way better than what he showed against the Redskins. The only reason the Seahawks won that game is because RGIII played worse.
Grimey,
We clearly disagree on this one.
Yeah, I have really high standards for Russell. Kap too. I’m not gonna qualify it by saying it was good for a rookie playing on the road, but I understand where you’re coming from.
Losing CClem has definitely weakened the SEA defense. Initially I was thinking SEA because of their win streak and they were peaking at the right time, but playing on the road two games in a row and winning, will be difficult. Regarding ATL, they haven’t been all that impressive. They can be beat especially with their terrible playoff record in the back of their minds. Hmm. I’m still thinking this through and leaning towards the home team.
This reminds me of that old TV show, Herman’s Head. LoL…
Yup, just having a little fun. LOL I forgot about Herman’s Head. That’s been about 20+ yrs.
Herman’s Head was funny, for some reason it reminds me of HBO’s Dream On with Martin Tupper. It aired around the same years as HH.
Best theme music ever. Strong Simpsons representation with Hank Azaria and Yeardley Smith. And Herman has a mullett. LOL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8tzXFagaso
Can you imagine if they came out with a remake titled, “Harbaugh’s Head”?
Too bad he doesn’t have the haircut for it.

Scary thought: Who plays Jim’s “feminine side”?
Chaz Bono
LOL I said the feminine side not the fat guy!
two birds one stone.
EXACTLY!
Is Abraham still out for the Falcons? If so, that would balance out the loss of Clemons.
Abraham returned to practice today.
Jack
How about this? I nominate you as eligible for a name change:
Reliable Jack Hammer
Mike Nolan a great d coordinator?? I hope we get the chance to kick his ass for setting us back all those years with his terrible coaching and for taking AS over AR
You have no idea what you speak about. He took a team that went 2-14 the previous season to 4-12 then to 7-9. Yeah he wasn’t going to get them to the next level but he restored order, brought some semblance of respectability to the team and the franchise. He oversaw the drafting of Alex, Frank, Vernon, Joe, Patrick, Delaine, Deshon, McDonald as well as was the guy who brought in Justin. Thats a huge core of the team. You need a coach like him, you need someone to take you from one point to the next. He’s a Rick Adelman of the NBA, an Eric Musselman. Phil Jackson, as great a coach as he is, would never coach the Bobcats and bring them up, he will take a team thats good and make them great. Nolan will never take a good team and make it great, but he will take a bad team and make it respectable. If you want to blame someone for the setback, blame Singletary and Jed. That coach didn’t take the team to the next level. BUT…without all that happening, we wouldn’t be watching the team that is there today, without Nolan and Sing failing to get to the playoffs there would be no Harbaugh.
He was a jerk, who cares about his losing record…
Singletary changed the team’s mentality wit a toughness.. I noticed the team were in games that we normally would lose or backdown from..we’d come up short..but were in it..ultimately singletary wasnt an X’s and O’s guy..and front office failed on certain levels in aquiring the right offensive coordinator and schemes wit the talent on team..Harbaugh is in..with 80 percent of same team and Waalah! Just like that..back in the mix..two years ago seems a million miles away..
Nolan was delusional, he is a good defensive coordinator and that is it. He picked Alex over Aaron because he felt Aaron was more polite, I remeber Glenn Dickey saying that Rodgers was more NFl ready then Alex, even Sport columnist knew that Rodgers was better then Smith. Nolan is a dumb ass, and he will never be a head coach again.
Alex over Aaron was a Mike McCarthy pick – go figure!
http://www.bettingsite.org/index.php?sport=nfl&ns=9609
Neal
He didnt take AR because AR was a cocky A-hole, He carried himself like a know it all and had a really overconfident personality that even Rodgers himself admited. “I was 21 i needed to be humbled a bit” As far as being NFL ready its only because tedford ran a pro like system in call while AS was runing u meyers spread. And its not like AR was a surefire thing he was a juco transfer with 1.5 good years of film to him so there were risks either way. Nolan did undermine AS by calling him soft and puting him back in there with a bum shoulder but out of the troika of Sing Ericson and Nolan, Nolan is head and shoulders above the other two as a HC and a coordinator
Neal, so very wrong. As Bos9er said, Rodgers was an overconfident jerk as players go. Smith was the polite, do anything for the team player, as is evident today. With Smith he saw someone he could control and with Rodgers he knew it would be head butting.
True, AR was the more pro-ready qb whereas AS was the higher upside qb. Problem is the way they were handled after being drafted was exact opposite of what they were as players. Smith should have sat for 2 to 3 years and Rodgers could have played from day 1. Nolan botched it in that he should have kept Smith on the sideline at least his 1st season, if not 2. Let Rattay play, let the team develop, and when they had decent talent, then you insert a 22/23 year old Smith, not a just turned 21 year old. FYI, Kap is 25…and getting a SB ready team, so his success should come as no surprise.
But if you believe that if AR was drafted by SF that they would have been any better off you’re dilusional. AR would have struggled mightily, Nolan and he would have been fighting, and maybe AR would have been traded, maybe he would have failed, maybe Nolan would have hit the road. Look at AR’s mechanics coming out of college and look at them year 3 and beyond…complete overhaul. He would never have received that in SF. He’d probably be another Tedford flamout ala Carr, Dilfer and Boller.
And Bruce Irvin is what? A DE that leads all rookies in sacks and that is sitting on the sideline for 1st and 2nd down most of the year. The pressure will still be there. The issue will be that Irvin does not do well in dropping back for pass coverage.
Fatigue may play into it but that is what was said about the NY Giants last year and the Steelers in ’05. This team is starting to look like a team of destiny. I don’t think San Fran would want to see the Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. They are built to handle the 9ers and have shown it in 2 games. They were 3 uncharacteristicly dropped easy passes away from going up by 2 scores in the first game which would have negated Gore in the 2nd half.
Atlanta has a paper record. They had the easiest schedule in the NFL this year of all the teams. The Seahawks are tied for the hardest schedule in the NFL this year. And they were only a few plays away from sealing a 1st round bye. Keep underestimating them. :)
While they are playing well, they should thank the replacement refs. The worst call I’ve seen in ten years got the Seahawks a spot in the playoffs…..
It also got us a week of rest.
True lol.
New Orleans was starting to look like a team of Destiny last year, we know how that ended up for them. Seattle is a great team, no doubt. And I can see GB, SF, and Seattle in the Superbowl. ATL, not so much.
There’s a reason Irvin sits on 1st and 2nd downs. He can’t set the edge in the run game. Seattle doesn’t ask it’s ends to drop in coverage much. For somebody that’s obviously a seahawks fan you don’t know your own team very well.
@ Grimey:
There’s a reason Irvin sits on 1st and 2nd downs. He can’t set the edge in the run game.
If so, then the Falcons would be smart to feed the ball to Jacquizz Rodgers. Michael Turner cannot take advantage of that weakness.
Speaking of Rodgers, I cannot say or write his first name without laughing. Someone should have slapped his mother when she decided on that name. His brother’s name is James. Go figure.
Claude they would be smart to run to Irvin’s side. Don’t get me started on football players’ names. D’Brickashaw Ferguson?! How about Barkevious Mingo? Seriously?!
Key&Peele kill it on this one:

“I read all the baby name books and couldn’t find one I liked. So I picked a name from the Penthouse letters instead.”
@ MS
Jaquizz? The pages must have been stuck together like a fold-in in Mad magazine.
Claude
It could have been Jadeveon or Ras-i or my personal favorite Sid’Quan (whatever happend to him he was looking nice then hurt his hammy and dropped of the face of the earth)
Its like they all try to outcrazy each other. I see your Lardarius and I raise you a Jermichael
Me and Tony Gonzalez came into Cal together. Really great dude. Wouldn’t mind seeing him win hits first playoff game.
With six teams still having not hired a head coach the list of potential head coaches that are currently assistants on playoff teams must be quite high.
Could we lose all three; Roman, Fangio, Seeley?
Awesome, six chances for Roman to leave for greener pastures.
I feel like Fangio has entered the LeBeau zone – I haven’t read a single rumor about interest in him as HC.
ATL is soooo overrated. Seattle’s D is far superior, can’t wait to see SEA vs SF in the NFC championship! Lets go Sherman, leader of the Legion of Boom.
Legion of Boom. That’s a great nickname. I really like it. Unfortunately it will probably be changed to something like the Battalion of Suspension after the league has to suspend the entire defense and Marshawn Lynch for steroid use.
Haha really? The entire defense is juicing? With the exception of Browner and Sherman cuz they already got tested…
Dude, completely false. You’re such a homer. No matter the outcome of that pack game the Hawks would still have been the fifth seed. Do your research.
That previous post was for BAYAREAFANATIC. Listen, no doubt the hawks will be worn down from the hectic schedule and such. But this is the 2nd youngest team in the NFL. If there were a team that has youthful exuberance on it’s side, it’ll be them. The falcons scare me, sure, but this will be a game. I dont see a blow out coming either way. Lastly, I’d much prefer to play the Whiners next. A rookie quarter back versus a seasoned one such as Rodgers?? No question, give us the whining niners!
The only way the Hawks beat Atl is if the Refs allow the type of defensive holding they allow for you guys at home which is not likely in Atlanta. I am hoping the Hawks win though. The road to the Superbowl is much easier for the 9ers if the Seahawks win. 9ers playing at home against a rookie QB for a shot to go to the SB… Sounds good to me.
Sounds like Reid wants to bring Mike Vick along to KC…. Interesting. With less potential teams interested in Smith, unfortunately it looks more and more like the dwindling list will wait for his release and keep their draft picks.
I said it before and I’ll say it again Alex is not a fit for Reid’s offense. He is too reluctant to throw downfield.
I get it niners fans you love your team….nothing wrong with that……..but reality says you better hope the falcolns win………you only beat Seattle 13-7 at “The stick”…….and that was way before Seattle and Wilson got the offense rolling……..be real niners you scored 13 at the stick and 13 at Seattle those are the facts Seattle has gotten much better and the niners are about the same…I am not hatin just being real …..pray you do not see them again this year …that’s all I am sayin : )
“The road to the super bowl will be easier through Seattle.” Are you serious if I were a niners fan I would be more worried about Rodgers shredding on my team rather than the road ahead. My prediction is niners lose 28-24.
Youthful exuberance=adderall.
Get a life and go on your own blog. Why are you here tired of losing so you want to see what a real team blogs about.
The Hawks are a dirty cheating team, if the Refs call the game right, the Hawks will have 200 yards in penalties.
Hawks eat Falcons for breakfast, then 49ers or Packers for lunch and the AFC champs for dinner…..GO SEEEEEAAAAAHAWWKKKSSSS……
“Hawks eat Falcons for breakfast”
Is that Cannibalism?
Haha, you sound like lil’ Jimmy after you barely scraped out a win against us I San Fran. Saying we were too rough and physical. I love it. Too physical?? It’s football for cryn out loud! This Hawks team is young, they aren’t going anywhere for years to come.
Hawks are a dirty team have been for years…
Sorry Grant, but Seahawks OC is not “medicore”. He’s actually pretty good. He’s taken a rookie 3rd round pick, and got him playing to a level to where he may be the favorite to win rookie of the year, over the #1 and #2 overall picks. Sorry, but there’s nothing mediocre about that.
Grant doesn’t know so much about football outside of what he clips from the wires…
Bevell also added a zone read scheme (which he had never used) into his WCO to take advantage of his QB’s mobility. I actually like his offense better than Roman’s. Or maybe it’s his play calling I like more.
Despite losing Clemons I think SEA beats ATL. But I do not see a repeat of our bad loss in Seattle in the NFCCG, should we prevail against GB. SEA is tough, I grant that, but we also laid a colossal egg that night. Don’t see it happening again if there’s a rematch at the Stick.
except that it will be the horrendous 3rd game in which we always forget to show up for…
if we make it past this week though, i finally see us breaking the 3rd game curse
Hawks all the way! We were screwed last time. Now its redemption! GO HAWKS! no getting by the 12th man this year!
Wow. You are new. To bad for the Hawks the 12th man is irrelevant now.
The 12th man is NEVER irrelevant! Sorry 12th man is everywhere the Hawks are.
You might be there but we can’t hear you.
New girl
Not on the road he isnt 4-5. That said you should still beat the fraud ATL. As for getting screwed hahahahahaha thats some nerve you got. Ask the Packers about getting screwed by the refs.
oh, you will!
I hope Grant is wrong. I would like Seattle to beat Atlanta so we can get the NFC Championship game right here at the Stick, plus get another shot at Cheating Pete and the Seahawks.
However I think a well rested Atlanta team will beat Seattle handily.
My Picks for this week:
Baltimore over Denver.
49ers over Green Bay
Atlanta over Seattle
New England over Houston.
Baltimore over Denver. Interesting….. I can only presume you mean that you’re picking Baltimore to cover the 9.5 point spread in a valiant losing effort, avoiding the embarrasment of being blown out.
I, however, am fairly confident that Denver blows Baltimore out of the water. They’re just not very good, and Denver is very good.
Baltimore is terrible on the road and can’t beat Peyton Manning anywhere.
I honestly believe Denver’s record has been inflated by playing in the AFC West. They got 6 games against three lousy teams (San Diego, Oakland, and Kansas City). Plus they got the NFC South with three teams having down years (Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Carolina). Their record against playoff teams was 2-3 (Wins Cincy, Baltimore, Losses Houston, New England, Atlanta).
They did beat Baltimore (without Ray Lewis) 34-17 in baltimore December 16. I believe Baltimore returns the favor this week in Denver.
If Baltimore wins, you can rub it in my face Rick, but I think that game’s going to be a laugher.
Peyton Manning has beat Baltimore 9 straight times.
Those are my picks in the pick’em too.
U falcons and 49 whinners people keep dreaming anc continue being arrogant, seahawks will find u and beat u
mexican fan
Ever thought of studying English? Might come in handy…
GO SEAHAWKS
SEAHAWKS 27
FALCONS 23
Falcons 136
Cheaterhawks ’2
You heard it here…
Sounds to me like your a bit nervous about this game as well you should be
Aw show us, er, never mind…
Seattle wins. No problem. Atlanta is the weakest of the remaining NFC teams.
Atlanta won’t be able to stop Seattle’s very good running game without taking chances. Seattle will burn Atlanta off deep play-action and option reads if/when Atlanta starts to get jumpy on the run. Bottom line, Atlanta’s not so great defense won’t be able to stop the Hawks.
Seattle will however, be able to stop Atlanta’s running game, and eventually Atlanta will become one-dimensional. Seattle has a good pass rush, even without Clemons, and a great secondary.
Seattle at San Fran in an NFC championship dogfight if Kaep and company can pull it off Saturday night against the Pack!
Judging by the punctuation it looks like oneniner became a seahawks fan.
Seahawk fans punctuation may not be great but our football sure is!
Are you worried about Marshawn’s foot injury?
Don’t need to pray at all, Alex Smith was horrible that game, you guys are good in your boom box, but at the stick you will just be another team. Not worried at all. Enjoy your last game of the season.
What have the Seahawks ever won, the Niners beat them 3 out of 4 the last two years, they clean our clock one game and now they are great. Hahah you are very funny new girl, after you lose this Sunday, you will be called bye bye girl.
We’ll see who is called “bye bye” but I’m pretty certain it won’t be me.
bye bye Neal
Newgirl,
More then certain this Sunday will be your swan dance, or maybe we will call it the Hawk dance, maybe you will pop up next season, but after Sunday you will be feeling like ” old beat up girl”
Oh Neal, I understand your need to try to put people down. A lot of people resort to that behavior when the are afraid of loosing but honey you need to man up. Seahawks are going all the way like it or not
darn that seahawk spelling (they)
Newgirl,
I was not putting you down at all, but you being a Hawk fan, your just not going to be feeling very good Sunday night, you might as well call in sick for work for Monday. As far as losing, not afraid at all, your just going to have to women up and take it like a man. I am paying you my respect in advance, sorry for your loss.
newgirl – Without googling: Answer these quickly.
1. What is a 3-4 defense?
2. All plays start with the ball on or between the (fill in the blank) marks.
3. What is double coverage?
4. What is a bootleg?
5. What is a muff (in football)?
Giggitty
Gotta love when a troll can only fix one of their errors. Don’t think anyone here is afraid of “loosing”.
newgirl – Ehhhh!! You failed the football knowledge quiz. You didn’t know any of them. I thought you’d get #5 correct. Hit the books and come back when Niners win Super Bowl.
Here are your answers:
1. Defense puts 3 players on the line of scrimmage and 4 players behind them.
2. Hash marks.
3. Two defensive players guarding one offensive player.
4. QB fakes a handoff to running back who is going in one direction and the QB keeps the ball and runs in the opposite direction.
5. If you are making a fair catch on a punt and then drop the ball and the other team recovers the ball, this is a muff (in football).
Did newgirl leave us already? I was just hardly getting to know her.
Tease
Sorry boys, work called. Now it is time for me to go home. This was fun. Good luck to you all. FYI…. I AM a “New Girl” just started watching about 10 or 11 weeks ago but boy I do love football and I really LOVE my Hawks! See ya on the other side when we win the Super Bowl:)
Where did all the Seahawks fan crawl out from? Don’t recall seeing them all year long.
Bandwagon fans. Remember all the Lions fans last year?
Its the 12th man, we’re everywhere!
Texas A&M?
You put something with seahawks in the title on the internet and they come slithering out from under their rocks.
Seahawks established 1977
Championships: 0
And all they do is win.
Take that a step further, just 6 divisional championships in those 35 years. and with records like 9-7(88) 9-7(99) 9-7(04) 9-7(06) 10-6(07) and 7-9 (10) Id say the Division was more responsible for those “championships” than the actual seahawks team
And this year they go 11-5 and don’t win the division.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKdcjJoXeEY
shoulda used this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ_R-G_i4Xk
If the Falcons don’t win Mike Smith will have a full blown case of Schottenheimer’s syndrome. Which could be fatal to his career and in some extreme instances results in being replaced by Norv Turner.
Who the Hell are the Seahawks?
The only team I know up in Seattle is the Ocean Chickens.
If Seahawks and Packers advance, where is the NFC championship played?
Go Hawks!
Boy, Seahawks fans are not very bright.
Also..doesn’t this guy’s avatar look like a pissed off Hofer avatar? LoL!!
Noobs Jack. Too big for their britches. They haven’t won enough to be jaded like us 9er fans.
Uh, Green Bay.
I guess they need football lessons in Seattle. Here we go Green Bay seed #3 and Seattle a #5 seed which means if they play each other wait for it @ Green Bay
>>If Seahawks and Packers advance, where is the NFC championship played?
SF.
Why? Packers advancing is an impossibility.
I’m picking the Seahawks because hawks are larger then falcons. Falcons do have a speed-agility edge, but football games are played on grass, not in the sky.
Teams are usually surprised by NCF West teams physicality. Hawks team wins the bird bowl by nine points.
According to statistics, any NFL team with a bird mascot has a crappy chance of winning the big one.
“What’s most amazing about that is the fact that in the 45-year history of the Super Bowl, animal mascots that can fly are just 1-4 in the game. Of 90 opportunities (granted, some teams haven’t been around all 45 years) there have been just five teams to wear a bird on their helmets in Super Bowl history. Flying teams, by and large, have been grounded when it comes to the title game.”
http://presscoverage.us/running-numbers/running-numbers-how-a-teams-mascot-impacts-super-bowl-success/
I say Seahawks and Falcons both lose this week.
I just had a bad thought, the Niners got to win, worst thing that can happen is if cheaten Pete and cheaten Bill are in the Super bowl, with cry baby Brady, their are 3 teams I despise and they are in this order.
Seahawks
Giants
Patriots.
This would be a nightmare, the Falcons got to put them away, sorry I am not feeling very confident with Grant pics, he was 50% last weekend woo hoo !!
And how do the seahawks cheat?
Watch the Seahawks’ cornerbacks sometime. Anytime. If you’re familiar with the definition of “pass interference”, then it will all become amazingly, immediately clear to you.
Rusty, I have watched them very closely not just against the 9ers but against other teams and both of them use their arms to push the wideout after the five yards however there is no PI called hardly ever!!! Either we are missing something or the refs do not call it!
They are very physical on the outside, and Brandon Browner has been one of the most penalized corners in the league for the past two years. I would say that almost every corner in the league breaks the after five yards no contact rule, and the ref’s aren’t really calling it. My point is that the seahawks are not the only ones who are doing this.
P.S. I would love to see an all NFC West NFC championship. The Hawks and the 9ers need to represent the best division in the league.
If you ain’t cheatin, you ain’t trying!
o and by the way, how is it to have the ugliest quarterback in the league? thats got to suck to have to watch that man play every week! He should just blow the game against the packers and do us a huge favor! Tired of seeing the BIGGEST BEAK ever!!!!!!!
@ Colin
Got Brains. !!
What are you 10 did your mommy have to sign a permission slip to be on here. I will ask 2 questions: why are you here on this blog if your a Seahawks fan and what does Kaepernicks nose have anything to do with his playing football? I guess God made you perfect.
