The Packers will beat the Vikings at Lambeau field Saturday night, and here’s why.
The Packers already beat the Vikings 23-14 at Lambeau field on December 2nd. Lambeau should be an even bigger advantage for the Packers in January.
Chris Ponder played well against the Niners, but I’m not a big Ponder fan. Adrian Peterson cannot do it by himself on the road.
A big issue for the Packers is pass protection because they are so one-dimensional, although slot receiver Randall Cobb can be a factor as a running back occasionally. If the Packers tackles can block Jared Allen, Green Bay will cruise to a victory.

Ah, the old Grant-kiss-of-death prediction. Bet the hous eon the Vikes…
That joke is old. Get some new material.
Get lost loser…
I agree that the Pack wins, but Ponder played well last week against the Pack, his confidence will have been boosted by that, and with him, that’s a big factor. I think it could be a close game, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see the upset. Nobody can stop AP right now.
I agree. I think vikings defense is the key to this game because AP will eat up yardage All Day, as long as GB doesn’t get up by too much too quickly. But you can’t discount the possibility that Aaron Rodgers goes all Aaron Rodgers on this game and drops 40 points.
That’s really the key, I agree. I can imagine the Lambeau crowd being totally crazy at kick-off, and the Pack opening an early lead to make a “statement” of their own. If that happens, it’s over before it starts. (and I’m a Viking fan).
I agree that the Pack likely wins but you didn’t dig very deep for your info Grant. The Vikings were in good position to win that game at Lambeau. They led well into the 3rd quarter but Ponder threw two picks inside the redzone that was the difference. Last week he played mistake free and they won. If he plays the way he did last week, it’ll be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikings upset them although I wouldn’t bet on it. The VIkes also have more than Allen rushing the passer. Brian Robison and Everson Griffen were both causing the Pack a lot of problems last week.
There’s always a crazy upset in the playoffs. If Seahawks beat the Skins, that’s not an upset the way they’re playing. So Vikings beating Packers could happen.
Or the big upset is Colts beating the Ravens. It’s amazing that they have a rookie wide-out that is contributing to the team.
2011 was a great draft — CK, AS, KH, CC, BM.
2012 — Maybe LMJ and that’s it……..
I can not wait to see Aaron Rodgers come to Candlestick Park. It will be a great game and it will be interesting to see how the 49ers and the Pakcers have changed since they played in week 1 of the regular season. The Packers scare me the most of any team the 49ers might have to play in the playoffs. Whoever wins that game will go to the Super Bowl!!!
The Packer are going to crush the Vikings this will be a total blow out game. The Vikings are in the playoffs more due to circumstances then their own merit. They’ve been one of the leagues most inconsistent teams and they are about to take a very young offense minus their number two play maker into Green Bay in January.
Good luck with that .
Vikings are in playoffs more due to “circumstances” than their own merit??! Seriously, the DUMBEST comment I’ve read out of 1000 comments on the playoffs. WOW.
I agree, but for a different reason. The Vikes played almost 3/4 of their games indoors, and they usually only win indoors (apart from the Seattle Dome where nobody wins). Peterson is beast, but he is just not as good outdoors.
The Vikings will upset Green bay. AD will run all over them and they’ll control clock. Ponder is also very mobile and could run all over them. The question will be whether Winfield plays or not. If so, they won’t have all of those yards passing. Allen will harrass AR. It doesn’t get as loud outdoors there.
I know that scenario would be great for us 49ers fans, but it does not have much basis in reality. We might as well start game planning for Green Bay now, because that is where the smart money is!
Dr. Rodgers will surgically remove the Vikings.
As long as all pro madden neal and his Xbox can dial in the plays to G Roman nobody scares the Niners! Besides I heard jordo/welcher will be opposite crabtree at wide out but it may be hard to get him off CK’s jock strap!
Sour Sam,
Hope you got some anger mgment classes in that Christmas Stocking. If not you can call public assistance, you really need some help.
I am not angry are you? Calling it like it is don’t get defensive neal, welcher and bay are just like the smithers except with ck take a look in the mirror. All those comments about smithers you guys are on ck’s jock like his balz sweat. I agree he is the better choice but you guys sound like groupies maybe you need help for your man crush hope your wife likes sharing.
Sour Sam,
You remind me of some hippie in the 60′s and your on LSD.Dude are you trippin right now? How was the Woodstock concert. How was Joplin and Hendrix? You on acid Sour?
UrinalSam,
why would you bring up my name in your childish post? I never bring your name up because I choose not to dialogue with you.
I cheer for CK because I liked his explosiveness in college and the NFL coach of the year drafted him and picked him as his starter. If he is mediocre for four or five or six years I will not be making excuses for him and putting him before the team. I will hope my coach could bring in someone better if he’s not cutting it. THAT is the difference between me and a Smither….
If I used words too big for you Sam I’m sorry. That’s all I got.
Bay don’t be mad I called out your man crush I am sure your white knight neal will defend you. beside your vast knowledge of coaching community sports for children makes you an expert lmao sorry if calling you out made your wife jealous she should know the reason you bought that jersey. In the end you are the same as a smither! Only you like younger guys with darker tans!
Sam,
You’re a troll. Beg for attention from mommy.
guys the vikings and the packers might not be even but this will be a good game the vikings have the second best running game in the nfl so they can easily beat the packers defense in the run game so personally i think its gunna be a very even game
Hey all you Viking supporters, drop the crack pipe! No way are they going to win! Vikings have not won a SINGLE outdoor game this year. Peterson is not as good outdoors. Ponder’s passer rating is 86.3 indoors and 69.6 outdoors. The Viking defense gives up more yards outdoors. The Viking offense coughs up the ball more outdoors. There are several good reasons why the Pack is favored in this game.
This is good for the Niners. They match up very well against the Pack.
Peterson did run for 206 at the packers house earlier this year. I would take it easy on the Peterson talk. Although the packers will win. Peterson will still have another monster day
give me a break the vikes were winning way into the 3 against gb and the second game they won.i dont care if they are outside peterson running no fumbles and ponder wont throw it away rogers will ,pressure he cant handle and the vikes have stepped it up where the pack hasnt !
Agreed. The Vikings are better then the 49ers so I’d be rooting for the Packers too if I were you…
The team that scares me is the patriots. Playing them a second time will not be a blowout/comeback/nailbiting win. It would be very difficult to beat billacheat two times in one year. And Gronk will be there next time. I would really like to face Denver in the Superbowl
Patsies don’t scare me, especially at a neutral site. Kap fumbled four snaps that first game and still won. The donkeys have a much better defense, which worries me more than lopsided offense only teams.
No team scares me, what scares me, I don’t want me Niners to lose a Super Bowl like the Bill’s did to the Giants because they could not make a field goal at crunch time. Is David Akers or that other chump going to be the next Scott Norwood?
Gotta admit, as cheesy as it sounds, I don’t want to lose a Super Bowl…..period! Being 5-0 has always been a proud point in the big dance for us hardcore fans, but you’re point is absolutely valid. Our kicking game will be no better than tossing a coin from 30-45 yards out. Akers can hit the long and short, but he’ll miss in-between. Screw it, let’s go for it more often on 4th down from between the 20-35 yard line and let the chips fall where they fall!
I agree Md, The pats will be more difficult a second time around. A big part of the reason the niners were able to get a big lead/not let brady score was all the turnovers. Even if the turnovers didn’t lead directly to points, several of them happened after the pats had gained 1st down yardage… so their drive would have continued. Those turnovers won’t happen a second time, especially in a dome.
In the AFC, i think its pretty clear that NE and DEN are the top 2 teams to beat.
I agree. Beating them twice will be difficult on the fast turf of the Superdome and us at less than full strength. We would have beaten them last year….but I’m concerned now!
Basically your reasoning is “they beat them before” and “i dont like ponder”. WOW!
If you haven’t heard yet, Ponder has a very sore arm and is limited in practice. I’m putting money down on the Packers tonight before the line changes even more.
The more I look at all these match-ups the closer they look. In fact for me they’re mostly too close to call, but that’s a cop-out so my try:
*Packers beat Vikes this time.
Anything can happen in divisional rematch but Rogers and Lambeau give a slight edge.
*Bengals over Texans.
I didn’t want to make that prediction, but whazzup with losing 3 of last 4? Texans run a bit better, but Bengals play better pass defense. Hard call, my numeric scale came out 11 vs 11.
*Ravens over Colts.
Despite Ravens stumbling and Colts surging, I think Home Field and Ray Rice make a difference. I think the Old Dogs Defense finds a way. I think “Play For RayRay!” will trump ‘Chuck Strong’.
*Seahawks over Redskins. Didn’t want to make that choice either; it just tastes bad. : > (
RG3′s knee brace evens-out the Home Field advantage, because now I have the two QBs and their Passing Games as even for this game. Both are accurate, throw deep, extend plays and threaten with their feet. Receivers are about even in talent/depth. Good running backs, both strong, tough, and durable and will break tackles in the 4thQ. I have to give Lynch a nod though; he makes so many plays. OLs are more-or-less equal as are ST. I give slight advantage to Seattle for both Run D and Pass D.
I give Washington the coaching advantage. (Its not just personal, I swear!) Shannahan has a long career as a great schemer/game planner and at making in-game adjustments. But the little numeric scale I was rating with came out 15/14 Seahawks.
The Niner D – in particular, the left side of the line (RJF and Brooks) – improved a lot since the Seattle debacle. Take a look at this clip from the Seattle game where they run right at RJF and he gets man handled:
http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1369421/ieJoVfppuU1vJ.gif
Last week, Arizona tried to do the same, but had little success. They don’t the same personnel as Seattle, but it was encouraging to see the Niners make proper adjustments and to mitigate for the loss of J Smith. So even with a banged up J Smith, I’m feeling confident about the Niner D in the playoffs.
That Seattle game was a wakeup call and the best thing that could have happened to them.
I wish I was one of these high paid expert analysts drawing six-figure incomes spouting drivel, rumors & innuendo and trying to pass it off as insider information.
Yesterday Shefner is saying Reid-to-Az is a slam dunk. He’s flying in Thursday and will sign before he leaves town.
Today Shefner, Mortensen & ESPN are reporting that Reid is sure to sign with KC today and not even fly to Phoenix. In related news, the Israelis & Palestinians have made Peace in the Middle East, but the US Congress has erupted in fisticuffs. Film at 11:00.
Some really eye opening stats comparing Smith and Kaepernick. The only significant stat in which Smith had the advantage over Kaep looks to be QBR versus the blitz.
Also not a shocker, Delainie Walker lead the league in drops for any running back, tight end or receiver.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/who-threw-deep-ball-better-smith-or-kaepernick
Day 3 of the new year and entering into the playoffs and you decide to still talk about Alex Smith. You might be as pathetic as these Seahawks fans on here. Wait, maybe not, no one is in your league!
I’m sorry Primedouche,
my team doesn’t play for 9 days. So I wanted to discuss QB comparisons since they now both had the same amount of pass attempts.
Didn’t know that I needed your permission to do that….
QB comparison what a joke! Instead of talking about the playoffs or bashing troll Seahawks fans king hater wants to talk about Smith vs. Kaepernick.
How much of a loser are you? Everyone but you and your boy toy 23 are still talking about Smith. Shoot, even the tag along Neal has moved on but you, you are stuck in infatuation going nowhere! Get help!
Primedouche,
there was a lot of other eye opening info on that article. I know your ADHD and being Bi Polar effect your ability to read a decent article. But you should try.
As for the Seahawk fan troll, I don’t need to lip off to him very much. You are he are both douches I prefer to limit my conversation with both of you…..
Other points but you decided that Smith vs. Kap was more relevant and that someone other than you and 23 wanted to talk about our QB comparison. It’s called obsession.
Have you looked at the thread? Nothing about Smith but you decided that it was something us real 49er fans are wanting to talk about. Not that we have not discussed Smith enough for what, the past 7 YEARS!
Grow up and start acting your age!
Bay why the name calling? Can’t handle being called out?
FDM,
if you want to dialogue with me then go ahead. As for Prime, he’s a proven douche. If you want to to align yourself with him or lend weight to his post that’s up to you I guess.
The cry baby has spoken!
Prime Slime
Your the cry baby, crying to Grant all of last week, having your tantrums because you were kicked off the site. What a man !!
I know. He’s calling me a baby. Did you see him the last two weeks. He got deleted time after time and like a stray dog, primedouche just kept coming back over and over and over again.
So pathetic and the saddest part is he doesn’t realize it. Just goes on business as usual. Prime is Like a dude that just picked his nose and ate it. Then looks around while everyone looks at him in disgust. All he can think is, “what’s their problem”.
Bay,
Simply put but true, a good example.
Bay,
You can talk about what ever you please, no question about it. Having said that, it is odd for you to bring up Alex Smith, out of the blue, when you’re the one who’s been beating the, “Those poor Smithers can’t move on” drum.
To you see what I’m getting at?
the vikes will win this game, the pack off line wont handle the pressure and rogers will go down alot.pack d line will not contain ponder nor peterson and will not keep up.yeah its cold there and the vikes arent that good outdoors or night play, but its gonna be fridget cold and the pack is not gonna have an easy time out there either they arent poler bears either!
Rick
If it plays out that way and the Redskins beat Seattle (as I think they will), then the Vikings will go to Atlanta and Washington will make a trip out here. I think a more likely scenario is GB winning, however.
Vikings record in 6 trips to Green Bay: 1/6
Vikings record in last 20 outdoor games: 5/15
Vikings record in 2012 outdoors: 0/5
Couple this with the fact that Ponder’s arm is very sore and he can’t throw a ball farther than 20 yards, I’d say the Vikings don’t stand a chance!
You didn’t even get the day right. I’m glad you are wrong. because the Vikes will win on Saturday!!
i’m appauled at the comments of Rodgers vs AP. It comes down to GB’s D vs Ponder. Ponder made dumb mistakes that cost them the game the first time they played. Had he not thrown those 2 picks they would have won. If Ponder plays like trash then the Vikings lose. Also a widely ignored fact, the current GB team is not the GB team of old. They are an indoor warm weather built team and play like garbage in the cold. Without Ponders mistakes they only managed 10 pts in the first game opposed to the amount they scored last week. This is going to be a pretty even matchup that comes down to GB Defense vs Ponder.
PONDER HAS BEEN RULED OUT OF THE GAME!!!! I already put my money down on GB, whoooooopee!!!!!! GB will be traveling to the stick next week, rejoice, the Niners will beat them again!
Chew
What if Aaron Rodgers get hurt on the first snap? What if Joe Webb and Peterson combine for 250-300 yards rushing?
Let’s hold off on rejoicing.
AHAAAA! I won! I’m putting all the money on the Niners to beat the Packers!
