Report: Crabtree investigated for sexual assault

According to KTVU Bay Area Channel 2, who cites an unnamed source in the San Francisco Police Department, Michael Crabtree is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the alleged assault took place the morning of January 13th hours after the 49ers’ victory over the Packers, and Crabtree has not been detained or arrested.

I will keep you posted on further developments as they unfold.

Update: According to the San Jose Mercury News, Crabtree was not present when the 49ers arrived at their hotel.

  1. Jack Hammer says:

Didn’t the Giants go through this during the season with one of their stars down in Santa Cruz?

    • MJ says:

      Pablo Sandoval…World Series MVP

    • Big Suede says:

Yes- and the news media ran stories of the FALSE allegation and tarnished his name over nothing.

I am getting sick of the news media running stories like this over mere “investigations.” There is no probable cause- there is no arrest- this should not be news!

      • Jack Hammer says:

Fact of the matter is professional athletes are in a public position, and as such held to a higher standard and live under a much larger microscope.

Those who say he would have been arrested already if there was a shred of evidence have been watching too much CSI. The processing of certain types of evidence can take weeks to complete. My guess is this will continue to linger for a couple months unless the accuser decides to drop the accusations.

We all are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, so for now we should let the process run it’s course.

    • Big Suede says:

Jack hammer- you are totally wrong. When there are real rapes/sexual assaults- arrests happen quickly. Like the next day. There are outward signs of assault- tears, cut, abrasions, bruises. That provides evidence enough to arrest.

The fact that it has been a week and crab has only been questioned means there is nothing here. DNA tests aren’t going to make any difference (which I am guessing you are alluding too). And don’t give me public position as a reason to report on this. Anyone can make an allegation about anything.

      • angusinCanada says:

        Big Suede,
You are, in fact, totally wrong. Arrests are made days, even weeks after alleged incidents of sexual assault, ALL THE TIME. Don’t pontificate on subjects you have no idea about.
None of us know anything, so just let it play out.

      • Big Suede says:

Angus- you have no idea what i do for a living.

  2. msclemons67 says:

I hope this is unfounded. I’d rather see the 49ers lose than have a Rothlisberger on the team. Bad enough that we have Cox.

  3. Jason Ford says:

    Sh!t…

  4. Prime Time says:

    WTF?

  5. Mr. Everything says:

Sorry in advance to all the criers out there, but 99 times out of 100 with these things it’s some jilted girl that he promised the world to in order to get some stanky twanky.

    • Prime Time says:

      Really?

    • BigP says:

Sad but true. The timing of this seems like a bunch of b.s. Sounds like a hood rat trying to get a meal ticket.

    • MJ says:

Youre a clown. 99 out of 100? So does that take into account the Kobe Bryant situation, the Ben Rothlisberger situation(s), the Eugene Robinson situation, the Mark Chmura situation, the Perrish Cox situation….I’m sure there are many others that have slipped my mind.

Not saying Crabtree did or didnt, but you sound like a unintelligent fool when you say things like that. Then again I’ve read your posts and I shouldn’t be surprised.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

        LOL. So have I!

      • Mr. Everything says:

Yeah MJ. Most of those guys. That’s exactly who I’m talking about. I don’t know about Cox or Chmura, but if rape had been the case, they’d be in jail. You think that tart in Colorado didn’t want Kobe? That girl with Ben didn’t want it? Have you ever hung out with these ballers and seen the kind of play they get, and how they treat the girls after? I’m not saying they great the girls right, but that doesn’t constitute sexual assault.

      • Neal says:

Rapenburger is trash, screwing that college girl in the bathroom at a bar.

      • Mr. Everything says:

Not a crime to screw in a bathroom.

      • MJ says:

It is a crime when you force her in the bathroom and have your “posse” block the door so her friends can’t get her. You’re a complete clown, stop talking now, you keep digging yourself deeper and deeper. I hope you don’t have a wife or daughter or sister go through something like this, you’ll damn sure be singing a different tune.

So just cause there are a lot of groupies that come after these guys it excuses them to do whatever they wish? You don’t think actors and musicians get the same treatment, yet you hear of almost none of them being accused of these things. Think of all the bands from the 80s that used to get hordes of groupies going backstage for 1 thing, why no sexual assualt cases then? Not every woman at these parties are after one thing.

You do realize Steve Young was just about the most popular athlete bachelor of the 90s…he seemed to avoid these situations, Tom Brady seemed to stay out of trouble, Marino, Rice, Lott, Alex, and countless other young, single, famous multi-millionaires.

Don’t reply, you’ll just look dumb.

      • Mr. Everything says:

        MJ

I’m replying because I’ve seen in first hand. I’m not arguing it’s a good thing, not at all. These guys get what they want from the girl, and as soon as its over, they immediately morph into the meanest SOBs on earth, but again, that’s not a crime.

I apologize if what I’ve written has touched something personal in your family history. Rape is the worst kind of evil. I know. But this is a different type of wrong, and most often, not criminal.

      • MJ says:

Were you at this party?…. NO, so you have no idea what happened. None of us do, but I’m not out here claiming to know and saying its just some girl looking for money. You sound fairly unintelligent when you write such things.

      • Mr. Everything says:

        MJ

You’re a smart guy. Read what I wrote again. I never said Crab didn’t do if. I said most of the time (99/100) when this type of thing happens, it is nothing more than a jilted one-night stand.

        Calm down.

      • ninermd says:

Wo wo wooo. Kobe Bryant cheated on his wife. He was cleared of raping a skank who bragged about having sex with him the night after. Take Kobe’ name off if this list. Funny she’s from Wisconsin and they just got thumped. Think about it. This is another good rat trying to make a dollar.

      • Highpriest333 says:

Bryant and Cox were both cleared of all charges.

      • msclemons67 says:

Cox was cleared of his charges due to the “she was asking for it” defense. However, he lied to police (proven) and in the best case scenario he is an absolute slimeball. That’s if you believe everything his own lawyers said. Worst case he’s a rapist.

        I’m embarrassed that he is a 49er.

      • BigP says:

Eugene Robinson was busted for soliciting an undercover officer acting like a prostitute, he wasn’t charged with sexual assault. Most people don’t realize just how many sleezy women are waiting for these guys at their post game hang outs. These women are there for the fame and the money. These issues tend to pop up after the players treat the women like they are there for the fame and the money. The grey area of “sexual assault” often pops up. Not rape, because a polygraph and physical examination of the victim will verify the validity of the claim very quickly, unless it was not initially reported. In this case, it was reported quickly as sexual assault. I’m not buying it unless he is charged. This seems like a money grab to me. That being said, if the alleged victim was truly assaulted, I hope justice will be served.

      • BigP says:

        msclemons,
The Cox situation was really bad.

Perrish: “I didn’t have sex with her.”

Prosecutor: “But Mr. Cox, your DNA matches that of the fetus.”

I still don’t know how he escaped prison on that one.

      • Houston 9er says:

        Big P,

Have you been in law enforcement? Some of the words you use sound exactly like some of my family who have been at various local and federal agencies.

      • I.P. Daily says:

        Hall Monitor in action…

      • Mr. Automatic says:

        Houston, I agree.

        +1 BigP

      • BigP says:

        Houston 9er,
Lol, no I am not involved with law enforcement, but my mom and father both were. When you grow up in that type of family, you are unwillingly subjected to stories and scenarios of this type. Lmao, you seem to understand exactly what I mean. My grandmother was an emergency room nurse at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, she had all kinds of stories as well. One of my favorites involved Joe Montana. He cut his finger on a broken glass at an awards banquet and had to go to the ER to get stitches. My grandma didn’t realize who he was but thought it was amusing how the doctors were acting around him. She was told that he was a player for the 49ers after the doctors started fighting over his signature on the release form. Too funny.

      • Houston 9er says:

Yeah, I ran into Montana at a horse riding event. His daughter was a somewhat accomplished rider. It’s really hard to meet Montana and not talk football but I felt like he probably gets that everywhere he goes so I only talked to him for a few minutes but it was horses and golf. Great guy for someone with so many people demanding time and attention.

  6. Prime Time says:

Grant have the 49ers left for Atlanta or will they leave tomorrow?

  7. Tha Grinch says:

Hopefully this doesnt turn into a distraction….Hopefully its just some floosie and he gets clearedlike Panda..

  8. bayareafanatic says:

49ers left hours ago. This will go away. Terrible timing.

  9. Jason Ford says:

Draft WR in the 1st or 2nd round….

    • Prime Time says:

      Dwayne Bowe!

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Draft WR in the 1st or 2nd round….

      …Because Crabtree got questioned?

      • Dangle says:

I think we needed one anyway.

      • EB Niner says:

We most likely need one anyway, since Manningham and Williams are not likely to play most of the season and if the return at all next year, they won’t be 100%. Moss will be one year older and AJ may be a bust. So we have one returning WR for sure and if this goes the wrong way, he might be in jail or at the very least a distraction.

So yes, we need a WR desparately.

Bowe is way too expensive and I believe we keep Delanie for cheap because he can’t catch. So absent Celek or someone supplanting what does in other facets, he’ll have a job w/the Niners next year.

      • EB Niner says:

Oh, but unless the guy is megatron or something, I still like the idea of getting a DT or top DE…best player available out of the two areas would work for me.

Issues on D-line…Soap and Smith getting older. Jean-Francios is a good rotational guy, but not a super star and McDonald is solid, but not a difference maker. Dobbs had a bad injury, which means he likely won’t be available early if at all and no one else was trusted with meaningful playing time, so that means we don’t have the depth people have said. BIG need then on the front line.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @EB
Yeah, and they might not have to move up too far to get a high quality DL; the word is this (2013) draft is very strong in top DL talent.

  10. Fan says:

The 49ers are stars in the making. Fame is coming. They must watch as there will be setbacks along the road.

  11. Prime Time says:

    Adversity already!

  12. Coffee's for closers says:

The fact that he hasn’t already been arrested suggests that he wont be. At worst we’ll have to listen about a civil trial and most likely her eventually dropping it.

    • Crab15 says:

Coffee – What percentage of these cases get dropped? Do you know?

I would think Jed York/Niners would put out a public statement soon.

  13. Adam707 says:

Until there is more evidence presented I’m sticking by Crabtree. Some girl probably seeing dollar signs

  14. Crab15 says:

Damn, 3 years ago I said in here that Crabtree was the next Michael Irvin. I meant on the field.
Michael Irvin was accused of sexual assault after he retired but reached a settlement with his accuser.
This is no time to panic but the timing is horrific.

    • Prime Time says:

Well said Crabs. I like the Irvin on field comparison but the timing is terrible for that other part. WTF!

    • Jason F. says:

Not really panic about this case just about the timing… I hope he can focus like the playmaker michael Irvin…

    • BigP says:

      Crab,
Irving was a coke head with a criminal record. I would bet money that Crabs is innocent of any real wrong doing in this case.

      • Prime Time says:

And a damn good wide receiver.

      • Crab15 says:

Prime/BigP – I can just picture some of those goon ATL fans holding up signs during game Sunday, mocking Crabtree.
I had a s*** day today and now this? Time for me to hit the bottle man. :(

      • BigP says:

        Prime,
Yes he was, but my point was that he had a history of criminal behavior and drug abuse. Crabtree has neither.

      • Prime Time says:

Crack a couple bottles Crab and all good by Sunday!

      • Crab15 says:

Prime Time – I’m on it bro.

      • Prime Time says:

To be honest with you P, I’d rather never hear about it. I just wanna watch football and not even hear trouble innocent or not.
Hopefully the NFL helps and the 49ers can deflect attention away from our best WR who we need desperately Sunday!

      • BigP says:

        Prime,
        I’m with you.

  15. Hov says:

WTF crab 2 days before the game this comes out smh ahhhh

  16. bayareafanatic says:

Until there is proof we back our own…

    • MJ says:

How bout we just let it play out. I highly doubt Crabtree, or any niner, would give two ish’ if the situation was reversed. No need to say anything negative against Crabtree nor anything negative about the accuser.

  17. Razoreater says:

    NooooooO!

  18. MontanaMan16 says:

Amazing how words get turned so quickly! The first report I read said Crabs was questioned in a sexual assault investigation. Now it’s Michael Crabtree is investigated for sexual assault. Completely different in meaning.
Nobody knows if he was a witness, a potential witness or the perp. My guess is someone wants a quick buck.

  19. Nick says:

What is considered to be “Sexual Assault”? I’m not trying to be a smart as$. Just want to know.

    • MJ says:

An assault of a sexual nature. “An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm”. So that, with a sexual nature, typically physical but can be applied to verbal as well.

    • Mr. Everything says:

Unwanted or offensive bodily contact of a sexual nature, or causing fear that such contact is imminent.

    • Nick says:

Thanks guys. I hope it turns out to be not true. A hoax with a fake girl? :)

  20. Mike says:

He’d be in jail if there was a shred of evidence. End of story. BS no doubt about it.

    • MJ says:

      Signed…OJ Simpson.

      • Razoreater says:

        wtf?

      • MJ says:

Just cause he wasn’t arrested doesn’t mean he won’t be some time in the future if it turns out there was something not kosher.

And the OJ thing is in regards to the claim that he’d be in jail if there was a shred of evidence…legal system is a screwy system.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Look, if you beat the crap out of me they wouldn’t wait two weeks doing an investigation before arresting you. If there was any actual proof of assault on this woman they absolutely would have arrested him the second they had it. Clearly this is a case of one’s person word against anothers and if she could have come up with more then that she would have by now and he would have been arrested. So again, the fact that it’s been nearly two weeks since the incident and they also had no problems with Michael leaving the state there is essentially zero chance that there will be an arrest made at this point.

  21. undercenter says:

Hmmm, Falcons hire girl create distraction, if there was evidence Crabs would of been arrested.

  22. Brodie2Washington says:

Stunned. Flabbergasted. The very day the 49ers were flying to Atlanta.

I don’t have any reference points for this. I hope he did not do what is alleged. I hope he is not overly distracted (how can this not be a distraction). I hope Jenkins is more then a paperweight because it looks like the 49ers need him now.

More concerning then the win-win-flop pattern is the injury cluster pattern. The Niners already lost Williams and Manningham. With the Crustacean Sensation either out or under a cloud, the WR corp looks as thin as last year, or even worse.

  23. Ramon says:

It really is amazing how 49ers fans overreact to every stupid story out there.

Why don’t you wait for the facts of the investigation to come out before you scream panic? Crabtree hasn’t even been charged with a crime yet.

  24. Adam707 says:

It’s funny how we assign rape with sexual assaults almost automatically. Sexual assault is very broad.

  25. AES says:

#1. I only hope that MC did not commit a crime.
#2. I hope that does not become a huge distraction for the team.

Now if MC did indeed commit a crime, he should pay the consequences as provided by the law, period!

But for now, it’s in the hands of the legal system.

  26. Adam707 says:

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Crabtree sexually assaulted ND LB Manti Te’os imiginary deceased girlfriend. Weird. Isn’t it.

    • msclemons67 says:

I think it’s interesting that T’eo’s imaginary girlfriend seems to be generating more outrage than Kelly sending a kid to his death in a scissor-lift. Not to mention campus security covering up a suicide by a victim of sexual assault.

The media’s moral compass is so far out of whack sometimes. Juicy gossip is more important than real crimes that affect real people.

  27. Mr. Everything says:

Here’s a true story about this stuff.

In 1996, the UCLA Men’s Basketball team was reigning NCAA champion, and took in a recruit by the name of Jelani McCoy. Jelani’s best buddy from San Diego was Darrell Russell, who was a USC Trojan at the time. Both guys were 18 year old freshmen, both hyped to such a level that they were already being touted as sure-fire future hall of famers, or at least that’s what everybody told them. Neither of these guys ever amounted to much, and in fact, D-Russ died in the mid-2000s.

But back in their heydays, in LA in 1996, they got whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted it, and when they tired of whatever had held their momentary interest, they moved on with icy indifference. The one constant throughout the days and nights I spent with them up in the Hitch Suites, the one constant was the flood of star-hungry young girls, each if which would be ceremoniously kicked out without her panties, never to bother these guys again. There were literally hundreds of thongs adorning the walls of Hitch 206, and night after night the girls would come in, spend a few hours with the star athletes, and leave screaming bloody murder as the dudes flaunted their panties at them from the balcony.

I’ll never forget witnessing that level if objectification, nor will I forget the fact that girls just kept coming, night after night for an entire year, just for the chance to be seen with or get close to Jelani or D-Russ.

So do I think Crab did something shady? Yeah, probably. But do I believe that a girl who put herself in position to be alone with him didn’t explicitly seek his private company? No. With his recent rise comes certain benefits, comes new responsibilities. He better tighten his inner circle quickly.

    • bayareafanatic says:

The smart ones layer themselves with friends that look out for them so that this type of thing doesn’t happen.
The smart ones always assume this girl wants money. You can never let your guard down. Sounds like Crabs probably did.
I’m curious who’s room it was, what time it was.
Back in the day it happened to Clark, it happened to Rice it happened to Eddy D. Somehow someone pays and makes it go away…..

    • dangle says:

There was a hip hop star a while back, I forget who, whose body guard would take a polaroid of him and every girl he hooked up with, with her smiling and having a great time, so that he would have proof it was not rape.
Thats the world we live in

  28. Tha Grinch says:

Primeslime just be a man and drop the charges….

  29. Nick says:

    The story goes like this:

A ‘tree’ was seeking the bush …. or vice versa. The rest is unclear.

  30. Stan says:

On a team that signed Perrish Cox,no surprise he went to Atlanta with them. “We take these things serious”..hypocrite team post of the year.

    • TIM says:

      Stan:
What possible reason could anyone have for Crabs NOT to travel to Altanta with the team for their biggest game of the year ? He has not even been charged with ANY crime,so why should he have been left home ?
If he is found guilty then I say hang him high !!! But right now he is completely innocent of any crime as far as anyone knows.

  31. Spaceborn says:

I just wonder why the woman waited several days before taking this to the police? Just seems she would have wanted the police to be able to collect fresh evidence of an assault like torn clothing, hair and skin samples or bodily fluids, signs of physcial struggle, scratches, etc. Why wait?

  32. Dee Phiant says:

I’m so tired of women throwing themselves at athletes and then expecting the athlete to control themselves.

    • angusinCanada says:

I’m glad you figured out what happened! You should go tell the cops what really happened, and save everybody the hassle of actually investigating. I have no idea if you were being sarcastic there or not….on this blog it’s particularly difficult at times.

    • Neal says:

      Dee Phiant,

You know exactly what happen in that room?Unless you were present and was watching , and that would make you a pervert and ignorant.

  33. AES* says:

Absolutely bad judgement on Crabtree’ part.
Only a person looking to take advantage of a player with deep pockets would be willing to spend the night in a hotel room with a person who is by all intent and purposes a complete stranger.

MC put himself in a very bad and vulnerable position. I would have hoped that he was more smarter and aware of the negative possibilities with such an encounter.

As I mentioned earlier, I hope that no crime was committed. But if Crabtree is found guilty of any crime, he has no one to blame but himself and must face the music.

    • dangle says:

      don’t be naive,
pro athletes, especially baseball and basketball players who are on the road a lot more than football players, spend the night with strange women in their hotel rooms all the time.
We don’t know what happened in this situation, but get off your high horse.

      • AES* says:

Naive? Well I’m not the one who may be in hot water here.
MC should have used much better judgement.
His actions may have damaged his career, the other party involved, and the team’s mindset because it has become the story surrounding the team.

  34. Deezybee says:

The team has been dealing with adversity all yr..Gonna take more than this to stop us…Niners all the way Baby!

  35. Stan says:

Like the great philosopher Cyndi Lauper once said,”Money buys everything”. Ray Ray,concurs.

  36. Juan says:

Is Crabtree still going to play Sunday ?

  37. Stan says:

I had my Sunday cakes off the griddle. Life is a funny funny riddle. Lets play two!

  38. Stan says:

    ah crap. Wrong topic post.
Editor! move it to the three keys post..
