Report: Crabtree will not be charged for sexual assault

KTVU is reporting the San Francisco District Attorney’s office said it will not file charges against Michael Crabtree.

San Francisco police had been investigating Crabtree for an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a hotel after the 49ers’ playoff victory over the Packers.

Here is District Attorney George Gascon’s statement: “The San Francisco Police Department — Special Victims Unit completed and submitted a thorough investigation of the allegations against Michael Crabtree. Following a review of all the evidence, my office has determined that no charges will be filed against Michael Crabtree at this time.”

    That’s great news from SFPD!

Stay clean MC, there will be plenty of tail available after you take care of business next Sunday.

  2. Razoreater says:

I like the fact that they expedited the investigation and wrapped it up prior to the Super Bowl. No further distraction. By the way, Mr. Crabs has meaty claws.

  3. Ralph says:

I knew that was set up on that man smh…

    • Highpriest333 says:

The timing was just too fishy!

      • MJ says:

Timing? It was to have occurred saturday night/sunday morning after the green bay game at a party he was at in san francisco. Its not like the claim was from 2 years prior or when he was in college, or was made after they hit atlanta. Party was sat/sun, claim was made public on thursday or friday. If it were a valid claim thats about the time frame id suspect.

Who knows what happened, but just because he isnt being charged does not mean “something” didnt happen, just not something they feel violated the law. It is such a slippery slope with sexual matters. Girl in South Bend claims a Notre Dame player sexually assaulted her, player claims they went to her room and he put a hand on a certain body part, she said no, he stopped. To most males that sounds like rejection, to her it was a trip to the police.

Either way, hope Crabtree takes this as a learning experience.

      • Nick says:

        MJ

Hopefully that girl learns something as well. Either she is naive or a skank.

      • MJ says:

Nick…sadly she committed suicide. People want to connect the two because it followed shortly after the “assault” but she had been having psychological issues since high school and I believe had once tried to commit suicide but failed. Sad story all around.

Still, these matters are always an issue of perspective. Who has the right perspective is up for the cops/da/courts and jury to decide, depending on how far these cases go. True matter of he said/she said…

      • Sleeper says:

MJ, where’d you read/hear the girl committed suicide?

      • bayareafanatic says:

Seriously…. You guys cant tell from the babble that this is DS…….

      • BOS49er says:

        Sleeper
the girls name was Lizzy Seeberg and she commited suicide in sept 2010 after reporting it to ND police but before they did any investigation

  4. Adam707 says:

I’m sure Benson and Stabler investigated thoroughly and solved the case. This girl should be charged with something.

  5. TIM says:

As we expected ! But I am pleasantly surprised that the inept SF politicians actually finished their investigation so quickly ! Now that nonsense is completely out of the way even before they leave for N.O. !

  6. AES says:

Good news, and hopefully a good lesson learned.

  7. Big Suede says:

Wow grant- thank goodness you and others in the media waited until there was an actual arrest- you know to make sure the police had probable cause that the crime was actually commited before putting the words sexual assault and Crabtree- so you wouldn’t damage the reputation of an innocent man- Er wait… That didn’t happen at all- you did report on a totally baseless allegation! Pathetic-

    • TIM says:

VERY pathetic ! But par for the course with today’s media . The important things they don’t even investigate but the rumors and the he said she said is front page news. That is why the media is so hated and mistrusted .

      • Big Suede says:

And whoever leaked the informAtion about the investigation is an absolute slug. The SFPD should make an investigation on who leaked this. There was no mistake that this came from an “anonymous” police source because the
Police are not permitted to speak on investigations- to protect those who may be wrongly accused

And then we learn that this women contacted oaklAnd police FOUR days After the meeting and never went to a dr and had no physical evidence. And two other women in the same hotel room saying there was no assault- ridiculous that this was reported.

      • BigP says:

It’s sad that there are people out there that do crap like this. They really do see $$$ when they look at these guys.

    • MJ says:

What year do you live in? All Grant, and his father, Maiocco, KTVU, ESPN and various other news outlets reported that he was questioned for a sexual assault incident. There was no condemning or negative things said. It was something that happened with the star receiver of the local team…get over yourself.

Only one who damaged Crabtrees “spotless” reputation was Michael Crabtree. You dont put yourself in these situations. Thousands of pro athletes have come and gone without a wiff of running afoul of the law, why cant he?

      • RolloTomasi says:

The problem is that the accusation is a leading story on page A1 and the dismissal is buried on page D28 after the mattress ads.

      • BigP says:

        MJ,
“Thousands of pro athletes have come and gone without a wiff of running afoul of the law, why cant he?”

He didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t run afoul of the law. A complaint was filed four days after the alleged incident. There was no evidence whatsoever to validate the woman’s claim and the two other women verified that no assault took place.

“Only one who damaged Crabtrees “spotless” reputation was Michael Crabtree.”

Wrong, the woman who made the false allegation damaged his reputation.

      • MJ says:

He put himself in the situation to have this occur. Thats the problem. Unless this woman is a complete crazy person, something went down. I’m not saying he did or he didn’t do anything, but as a pro athlete, as a public personality, he HAS to be smarter. You dont put yourself in these situations, blessing and the curse of being a pro athlete.

And obviously even ” ” don’t translate well. Crabtree’s reputation was hardly spotless, before this season everyone and their mother wanted to trade him, calling him selfish, a diva, etc. Now that he’s performed it’s all hands on deck to defend him. Hypocrites much?

I like the guy, I never had an issue with him, but come on, as an athlete of his magnitude you don’t do certain things. You dont go out to clubs and stay out after 12, you don’t keep a lot of the same people you grew up with around you, you don’t let family or a family friend run your finances, you don’t text pics of your junk to people other than your wife, and you don’t hook up with random chicks at parties. Do all that and you are golden. Aldon Smith, you listening?

And just cause the DA didn’t pursue this, doesn’t mean nothing happened. DA’s weigh a lot of factors when deciding to prosecute and it seems to be that this DA didn’t like the math.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        MJ,

Did you have any legal problems while playing for the Raiders? Of course not. You’re just a first class troll. Tell us how you know what happened in a hotel that you weren’t in? You’re ass- uming. That’s exactly what you’re doing. If you know something happened, provide a link. That’s how we do it on this blog. No link, no credibility. Thanks.

      • MJ says:

Word on the street is you’re a welcher on bets…

But tell me, where you at the hotel as well?

      • BigP says:

        MJ,
Again, he didn’t do anything wrong. The woman waited four days to make a complaint? Why not go to the police and be examined? It’s seems awfully strange that she would wait to complain, especially when physical evidence would help to validate her claim. That would signal to me that there wasn’t any physical evidence. Why not go to the police in San Francisco? She went to the Oakland police, who then referred her to S.F. PD. Again, it doesn’t make sense. Then, there are two other women who testified that he did not assault anybody. You sound like you want him to be guilty, when everything points to a hoochie money grab.

      • Clipboard Jesus says:

I am sure you heard of the Falcon fan that got stabbed in Georgia by a 49er fan that the media missed out on. Well, for whatever reason, Bay Area media skipped it and it turns out the guy was in a dispute over food. Too bad KTVU missed out on that story.

      • Chicago49er says:

        DS or BS is BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

      • Big Suede says:

MJ- this isn’t a case we “can’t know for sure” . Unlike a he said vs. she said. This is three people said vs. one person said. And the person who alleged this happened had no evidence of sexual assault. Let’s stop pretending that women don’t lie about this. Remember that banks kid.

And to suggest that Crabtree shouldnt put himself in this situation in silly. Anyone can be falsely accused of anything, sometimes there really is no lesson to be learned other that there are liers out there.

Reading through your responses it seems like you are just having a problem with the fact that crab appears to have had group sex with women he had just met. I have news for you MJ- if you are a decent looking guy on a college campus- these hookups happen quite a bit. If you are successful or known these hookups can happen frequently. The great irony in all this is thank goodness he had sex with three women at once- had he only had the sex with the accuser things might be different. So really MJ – if you need a moral to the story, it is this- if you are well known, have money in the bank, and want to hookup with someone ALWAYS make sure you take multiple groupies to bed with you so you have plenty of witnesses!

    • Chicago49er says:

Big suede thanks for your thougthufl post! Its amazing now days how media just goes wild with any news regardless of how it may impact someones life! No wonder so many famous individuals hate the media! I can not imagine if my every action was under the microscope!

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Agree Chicago, that scrutiny would drive me batty, but those big NFL paychecks come with the price of fame. Pols and Hollywooders too.
I will respectfully disagree with the criticism of Grant for going with the original story that Mike was being investigated; it’s widely considered news these days and is the pond that celebs swim in. Remember, NFL is show biz.

      • Chicago49er says:

Brotha, I guess the price you pay for fame and a high profile life style includes constant analysis of every move you make! I have no issues for the media to report the news however there are a lot of idiots in this world and our society already struggles with stereotype, prejudice and constant conflict due to lack of communication! I know nobody is perfect so it would be nice if we all put more effort to better understand eachother rather than acting on our fears, especially the fear media creates by focusing on all the negtive news! Anyway GO NINERS

  8. Neal says:

Let’s say that he was not charged but we all don’t know what went behind close doors and what really happen, the girl could be truthful or she is a gold digger, no ones knows for sure. I will leave it like that. Now Crabs, go play your game.

    • MJ says:

      Whoa…I agree completely with Neal.

      • Neal says:

I agree with you from the start MJ, along with Rapenburger comparison, unless you have it on video, she is either a victim without sufficient evidence or a gold digger, It is a miracle that we did agree on one thing because it is more of a social issue then sports talk.

    • Adam707 says:

Seeing how two other women have came forward and said they were there that night and that crab did nothing I’d say crab didnt do anything and this girl is either a gold digger or a psycho.

    • 23Jordan says:

      BS,

This blog was truly a better place without you. Disappear again.

  9. Razoreater says:

I fully expect this Super Bowl to be rated R for Gore!!!!!!!

    • Clipboard Jesus says:

I highly expect it to be worse then the 49ers 55 to 10 beating of Denver. That game was lower then the 1969 Superbowl, and I was Baby Jesus back then.

  10. Clipboard Jesus says:

I am very disappointed in the DA. Crabtree is a very bad professional player on the field and off the field. I hope SF WRs have 0 catches when Bal wins 6 to 3.

    • Neal says:

Your a dumb ass Clipboard Jesus.

    • BigP says:

Somebody is disappointed that the District Attorney didn’t fabricate evidence and ignore witness testimony to charge Crabtree with a crime that he didn’t commit. It makes perfect sense…..

      • Spaceborn says:

This is a Seahawk troll who pretends to be a 49er fan that makes nothing but anti-49er comments. He has used about 5-6 different names on this blog already including, Russell Wilson is better than CK. Just watch how the avatar never changes with the different names. Clipboard Jesus was a name used on NFL.com with a Charlie Whitehurst avatar when he was posting as a Seahawk fan.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

I’m very disappointed in your parents. Why couldn’t they have aborted you when they had the chance? Now the rest of us are forced to suffer from their bad decision.

  11. Chicago49er says:

MJ, I do not know much about your life experience but maybe something in your past is impacting your opinion about this whole issue! All i know is we live in America and you are innocent until proven quility and the district court has decided they do not have a case!!!

I do not want to defend Crabtree but how do you know he put himself in a bad situation!!! How about if he was just having a good time at a party and one of the crazy girls that did not receive attention decided to make a scene! Other witnesses confirmed that crabtree did not do anything wrong! All I am saying is lets to crusify someone without knowing all the facts!

Thank god this bs is over and now we can enjoy the superbowl. GO NINERS and CRABTREE. I wish you a great game.
