Report: Gamble to interview for Chargers GM job

For the past few days it looked like the Jets would hire 49ers’ Director of Player Personnel Tom Gamble, but that is not the case according to Adam Schefter. He just tweeted the Jets want someone else.

Schefter reports Gamble will interview for the San Diego Chargers GM job on Tuesday. The Chargers fired their head coach, Norv Turner, so Gamble would be able to hire his own head coach in San Diego. With the Jets, Gamble would have had to work with controversial head coach Rex Ryan.

Dollars to doughnuts this simply a move by Gambles agent to either get the Jets to commit or offer more money.

  2. RednGold1 says:

New York Jets are a train wreck. San Diego is 73 degrees and sunny 360 days a year.

  3. Brodie2Washington says:

Losing staff to other teams is on of those “good problems” winning teams have. As long as Gamble does not take too many assistants with him, its all fine.

What 49ers coach would you cringe the most about losing? I’m voting for Tomsula. Hate to see his energy go to another organization.

    Several miles off topic…….
You Beer Afficionados (Crab15, among others!) might be interested in an article in the PressDemo titled “Santa Rosa Brew Pub gears up for crowds”. Its about the scramble for the annual release of a limited production brew. On the home page look to the right column under “most read”. Or Google “Pliny The Younger”.

    • Dangle says:

Pliny the elder is one if my favorites, it’s practically legendary. I haven’t tried the younger but I’m looking forward to it

    • jsand3030 says:

I do like Russian River BP but Is it worth trying to deal with the crowds there for the younger?

      • jsand3030 says:

It is rated the best beer in the world….

      • Brotha Tuna says:

That’s a reasonable question. I’ve never stood in line for it (and thus never had it). I don’t stand in long lines for movie premiers or Apple product releases either. I stood in too many lines back in the military! Nothin’ but lines! LOL Phooey!

Knowing that GreenBay can run the no huddle stresses me. They saw what the no huddle did to them in N.E., I have a feeling we will be seeing the no huddle by the 2nd quarter.
I also hope that Atlanta takes a page out of the redskins book blitzes Wilsons back side with a safety. It was pretty effective most of the time. I unlike many in here don’t want to see the Hawks. They are a bad matchup for us. When a team comes in and bullies you and wins decisively it’s hard to confidently take that back. Defensively without Justin Smith I just don’t know that we could shut them down.

    • Razoreater says:

“When a team comes in and bullies you and wins decisively it’s hard to confidently take that back”. I do not believe that. I believe when/if they meet again, physically the 49ers will be better off than Seattle as opposed to the last meeting, and mentally I do not buy into the 49er players being intimidated. What say you Mr. Spitblood?

    • wokingfool says:

Playing at CenturyLink field was a BIG advantage for the Seahawks. On neutral ground or at Candlestick, the Niners will figure out a way to beat the c-hawks. Redskins were up by 14 by end of 1st Q, which tells me that c-hawks D can be scored upon. Where the Redskins lost the game was their D, LB were slow and got burned by the scampers in the flat by TE and FB.

  6. Spitblood says:

Fleener isn’t even the best rookie TE on the Colts’ roster. Gronk? Graham? No chance. Nice evaluation, Grant!

  7. fesnyc says:

Sanchez and the NY fans or San Diego? San Diego, here I come!

  8. Stan says:

Speaking of Green Bay..I think it was Rogers who was barking out the count with KILL! KILL! KILL!
    Uh,the NFL might get wise.

  9. drsgrosse says:

    Since Grant hasn’t started a new poll, here’s one…

Which was more stupid: Shanahan leaving RGIII in until it was way too late or Frazier letting Webb play the second half?

  10. bayareafanatic says:

    GOD,
what did we do for you to punish us with Joe Buck??????????????

  11. old coach says:

I hope Gamble ends up with the jets. The Jets need a QB. A.Smith is available. Gamble has a great feel for Smiths abilities and he has a relationship with the 49ers front office. With a little luck the 9ers could end up with another mid round pick in the 3rd round or even another 2nd rd pick

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Old Coach,

dam Shefter has already reported that the Jets are no longer interested in Gamble. he sent out a tweet a few days ago and said that apparently Gamble told him that the Jets were going in a different direction.

  12. old coach says:

Grant if you’re out there today. I would like your opinion of Justin Blackmon he had a pretty damn good rookie year especially playing for one of the worst offenses in the NFL. I think i remeber you saying that you thought he would be a bust. Just another example of how hard almost impossible it is for writers and the avg fan to have a clue regarding draft picks.

    • Brodie2Washington says:

Old Coach – I’m a chronic 49er draft day optimist.

The bad… I thought Coffee would be great. I liked the Chilo and Balmer picks. I hoped Taylor Mays would use his rare speed+size to do great things.

The good… When the 49ers chose Aldon Smith I was still dealing with my “Von Miller and Peterson already chosen” disappointment. Then I saw the Youtube of Aldon at the tender age of 19 dominating Colorado (since deleted) and was quite pleased. Also hoped the 49ers would grab Kaepernick. :)

I give myself props for disliking the Drukenmiller right away. His release was sooooo slow. The Anti-Marino.

The 49ers have two (and possibly three depending on compensatories) extra picks in the 3rd round. One is Carolina’s at 14. Also an extra 5th rounder and a slew of 6-7 rounders. 14 total picks. A big trade up opportunity with teams desperate for more training camp bodies.
