I’m sitting in my bedroom about to watch the Seahawks-Redskins game and I assume that’s what you’re doing too, wherever you are. So, let’s live blog it. I’ll update this frequently with my thoughts and analysis, and I encourage you to do the same.
1:35 So far in this season’s wild card round, home teams are 3-0. Unfortunately, I predicted three road teams to win. One of those road teams was the Seahawks – I predicted them to beat the Redskins. Here’s a link to that prediction blog.
1:42 Alfred Morris gains eight yards on a pitch sweep to the right on the first play of the game. Frank Gore does not have the speed or the power to make that run. The Redskins come out running on the Seahawks. Good strategy.
1:45 After a few successful runs, the Redskins set up play action. Griffin hits Garcon deep down the left sideline. Garcon beat Browner on the play. Good strategy to target Browner instead of Richard Sherman. The 49ers should take note.
1:51 Griffin calmly fires a dart to backup running back Evan Royster in the endzone on third and goal from the four. Griffin has been limping, but he’s also been decisive and poised in the pocket. 7-0 Redskins.
1:55 The Seahawks call a shot play for their first play and Wilson overthrows it. I don’t like that call. Establish Marshawn Lynch while you can.
1:56 The Redskins sack Wilson on third and two and the Seahawks go three-and-out. Marshawn Lynch didn’t touch the ball once. The Redskins return the punt almost to midfield. They have a golden opportunity to take an early two-touchdown lead and take Marshawn Lynch out of the game.
2:07 The Redskins easily drive the field for another touchdown. Griffin ends up hitting TE Logan Paulsen for a short touchdown pass. Griffin is slow and he’s limping all over the field, but he’s playing brilliantly from the pocket. He has to be the best rookie quarterback in the NFL, better than Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson. Let’s see if Wilson can lead his team back on the road.
2:13 It’s amazing – this game already feels over and Marshawn Lynch hasn’t touched the ball.
2:14 First play of their second drive, they hand off to Lynch and he gains four yards. Of course he gained for yards.
2:14 Second play, they take Marshawn Lynch off the field and go with five wide receivers. Not smart. Wilson gets sacked. Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is having a bad start to the game.
2:15 Zach Miller saves the game for the Seahawks. He catches a short pass and lumbers past the first down marker on third down to keep the drive alive.
2:19 Wilson gains 19 yards up the middle on a zone read run. The Seahawks need a touchdown on this drive.
2:21 A few plays later, Griffin uncorks a bomb to Sidney Rice on the right sideline for a 27 yard gain. First and 10 at the Redskins’ 12.
2:22 On second and seven, Wilson holds the ball forever in the pocket as he looks for someone open in the end zone. He finally throws it and it’s right to a Redskins, who drops it.
2:23 On third down, the Seahawks can’t get the play off in time and they’re flagged for delay of game. Terrible. The Seahawks call timeout. They need to call the perfect play because they need to score. Their defense cannot stop the Redskins offense, so the Seahawks’ offense needs to keep pace.
2:26 Wilson throws it off the cross bar, incomplete. That play was a dud from the beginning. The Seahawks have to settle for a field goal. 14-3 Redskins.
2:33 Griffin throws a ground ball on third down. He can barely move. The Redskins punt, and the Seahawks will have it at their 27. They can take the momentum from Washington with a TD on this drive.
2:36 The Seahawks wisely start this drive by handing it off to Lynch. He gains eight yards.
2:39 A few plays later Wilson fumbles. Lynch recovers and gains 18 yards. First and 10 at the Redskins’ 36 yard line.
2:40 Wilson play fakes and hits Michael Robinson for a 19-yard gain on second and nine. The Seahawks started out horribly but they’re cooking with gas now.
2:41 Next play, Wilson keeps the ball on a read option and gains 12 yards. First and goal from the 5.
2:42 On second and goal from the 4, Wilson play fakes and hits Michael Robinson in the left flat. He’s wide open, and he jogs into the end zone for a touchdown. 14-10 Redskins, and they’ve lost all of the momentum. They’ve given up 10 unanswered points and their quarterback can barely move.
2:44 Wilson has a 131.2 QB rating. He is good anywhere, not just in Seattle.
2:47 On second and seven Kyle Shanahan calls for a play action deep shot to Garcon. Griffin throws it and Earl Thomas makes a diving interception. The Redskins are falling apart. Seahawks ball at their 26.
2:50 On third and five, Wilson hits Doug Baldwin over the middle for six yards, and on the very next play Wilson throws deep down the middle for Baldwin, who catches it and gains 33 yards. First and 10 at the Redskins’ 30 yard line. You’ve got to give the Seahawks credit for not folding once they fell to an early 14-0 deficit. They’re a tougher team than we knew.
2:56 With 32 seconds left in the first half, the Seahawks face third and seven from the Redskins 16.
2:57 Wilson hits Golden Tate two yards in front of the first down. Tate spins left, falls and loses a yard. If he had spun right he probably would have picked up the first down. The Seahawks will have to settle for a field goal, and the Redskins will keep the lead going into halftime.
2:58 The Seahawks make the field goal. 14-13 at halftime. The Redskins need to make some serious adjustments right now or they’re going to lose. Should they bench the injured Griffin and play Kirk Cousins?
3:07 The read option and the pistol formation are good change ups when the quarterback is a run threat. The Seahawks use the read option as a change up and they’ve gotten a few big plays from it in this game. The Redskins use it more as a base offense, and it’s worked for them all season, but now Griffin is hurt. He is not a run threat today. So the pistol will not help the Redskins against the Seahawks. Washington needs to throw out most of their offense and do something else in the second half. That’s a bad position for a football team to be in. I’d be surprised if the Redskins hung on and won this game.
3:13 The Seahawks get the ball first and on their first play of the second half, Lynch 26 yards around the right side. The Redskins look defeated.
3:18 Game changer: On first and goal from two, Lynch runs up the middle and fumbles and the Redskins recover. Let’s see if the Redskins offense can do anything backed up against their own end zone.
3:22 Griffin hits Santana Moss for five yards on third and four. They’re off their goal line. Chris Clemons is down in a lot of pain. The game was going the Seahawks way, and in two minutes they lost all of the momentum. Wow.
3:27 After one more first down, the Redskins stall and punt. Alfred Morris is 90 percent of their offense. It’s anyone’s game. The Seahawks will start at their 30 yard line.
3:33 After a first down, Wilson play fakes, surveys the field and takes off running through the middle of the pocket. He picks up 28 yards. First and 10 at the Redskins 30.
3:34 On second and nine, Wilson overthrows Baldwin in the end zone. He was open.
3:35 On third and nine the Redskins blitz and sack Wilson for a loss of nine, knocking the Seahawks out of field goal range. Huge play. The Redskins keep the lead for now.
3:39 The Redskins start at their six yard line. On first down, Griffin gets tackled for a loss of four.
3:41 On third and fourteen, Griffin completes a short pass to Garcon, who does not pick up the first down. The Redskins have to punt from their end zone. It goes out of bounds at the Seahawks’ 41 yard line.
3:37 On third and two, the Redskins blitz and sack Wilson. Blitzing has been working for Washington in the second half.
3:52 The Redskins offense craps out after one first down, and they have to punt. Neither team will take control of this game.
3:53 Mike Shanahan should have taken Griffin out of the game at halftime. He’s limping around the field. Very poor leadership by Shanahan.
3:57 Wilson just converted a crucial third-and-ten. He hit Zach Miller underneath, and he ran for a 22-yard gain. First and 10 at the Washington 32.
3:59 Play of the year candidate: On third and five from the 27, Wilson hands off to Lynch, who busts through the line of scrimmage and takes off toward the end zone. Russell Wilson follows him, sprints past him and sets a key block at the five yard line before Lynch scores.
4:03 The Seahawks go for two to try to push the lead to seven points. The Seahawks line up in a spread formation with Wilson in the shotgun. Zach Miller, from the left slot, runs a quick slant and Wilson hits him in the end zone. 21-14 Seahawks with 7:08 left in the fourth quarter.
4:05 Griffin is back on the field. Big mistake by Shanahan.
4:06 The Redskins call a play action deep pass on first down and Griffin gets sacked. Atrocious play call. Second and 22.
4:07 Next play, bad snap. Griffin hurts himself trying to catch it. He doesn’t catch it, he fumbles it and the Seahawks recover close to the goal line.
4:08 Shame on Shanahan for leaving Griffin in the game.
4:13 Hauschka makes a field goal. 24-14 Seahawks. 5:32 left.
4:15 Kirk Cousins is the quarterback. He needs to lead a scoring drive right now.
4:16 First play, he completes a tough pass off his back foot to Hankerson for 15 yards. He’s leading a no huddle offense.
4:17 Two plays later, Cousins completes a 12-yard pass to Hankerson on the left sideline. No question Cousins should have started the second half.
4:18 Cousins cannot convert a fourth-and-14. The Seahawks blitzed and nailed Cousins as he was throwing. No chance for a Redskins comeback now.
4:21 The Seahawks will travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons next week. That’s a good matchup for Seattle. The Falcons play on turf, and the Seahawks are a much faster and explosie team on turf. Also, Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner match up well with the Faclons’ two best offensive weapons – Roddy White and Julio Jones.
4:23 Which two teams do you think will play in the NFC Championship game?

The more Buck’s hairline recedes the more he looks like Agent Smith from The Matrix.
Cannot unsee.
Ahaha, Buck is such a tool.
Like I said the redskins will lose, see all you crybaby skins fans next year
Let’s go skins!!
Is your bedroom the basement of your parents house?
Wsshington is smart. Attacking wide with the run.
It seems like LMJ and maybe Hampton could run the toss for us. But I don’t think Frank lacks strength, just burst.
PS @ Grant
I enjoyed your quips yesterday about The Old Man’s Antient miniTV. I’m still rocking a 32″; and I often watch games with the sound off! LOL for old dudes! And guess what? You’re headed here one day too. : >)
Smart of the Skins to come out running. Thats how you attack this poor run-defense
Skins 24 SEA 10
Zone blocking is killing them because there no one for the defense to key off of. No guards to follow. Wait until the play action passing starts…
These Seachumps are gonna get punked!
get loud!!
if they get down by 14, the seahawks are gonna have to abandon the run
Lives in ATL. Born in DC, 9ers fan all day. F*ck Seattle!
Will all the fans that appeared in sports hoofs the world over when the Seahawks made the playoffs vanish if the Redskins win?
*blogs, stupid autocorrect.
I hope so.
of course they will disappear. Just like the Seahawks will.
lessons on how to run the pistol.
what’s wrong peteeeeeeeee?
rg3 is hurting
TD!!!
Haha where are all the Peacock fans?
Fourth,
They are stressing waaay too hard to show up here.
I dont know yu guys are so hard on sf when we went into seattle on a rainy night n little rest n a janky kicker n got blasted. More than just the niners got beat n seattle, so does that mean all 8 of those teams wont win a title as well. does that mean the patriots wont make the title game because they lost to seattle.. The seahawks will not make it out of this round. goodbye to 2012 season seahawks. c u next year
Running wide and off tackle to good effect. RGIII making it happen while at about 55%.
Copy cat league. I like those outside runs. The one thing that’s a constant is Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme picked up from Bob Mckittrick. Lighter lineman running while plugging in any running back. This Morris kid was a 6th rd pick like Terrel davis.
Yeah, the kid is tough. His style is his own, but his ‘tude reminds me of Gore.
Seattle Seahawks- Legion of doom and gloom! Lol
RG3 said the only thing bothering him with his knee is the brace. He said he can’t move well in it but everytime he takes it off someone tells him to get it back on.
lane disipline by the D line is crucial
Not a bad idea just rolling with the home field teams. I was correct with two predictions yesterday and will probably lose two today.
Yeah we have a supposed Great Oline, a fast qb, a great TE, and cant run the Pistol as well as Seattle or Washington. What exactly are we doing wrong, are we missing something?
Of course I would like better receivers and a better running back… damn we really need next years draft class to shine.
Our o line is not blocking as well. We allow too much penetration.
Roman is incompetent or VD has lost his mojo and abilty to be wide open.
I don’t think it’s a question of mojo.
Grant,
If not mojo, it got to be the play calling or defense’s have figure out to defend him. Hard to believe this has been going on for so long, but when the head coach calls his offensive coordiator a great game caller, reality does not sink in. Waste of a talent.
I think it’s the playcalling and the play design. John Morton takes some blame, too. He doesn’t seem to be creative with the Y tight end. USC was always a wide-receiver-centric passing attack.
Seattle came in over confident and its killing. I want the 49ers to win it all in the worst way but will be happy when the Seahawks are eliminated.
of these young QBs, Kap clearly has a unique gift of being able to throw the football accurately wile rolling to his left. I’ve noticed that RGIII does not throw from that position very well at all.
I think Grant must have fallen asleep, probably not a good idea to what a game on your bed.
Looks like they got Browner for an illegal contact. Nice to see this called. They were starting to remind me of the way the Packers were murdering Rice & Co. at Candlestick back in ’96.
Read option will keep many of these young QBs injured on and off if turnovers don’t occur. It’s a phase.
Quarterbacks can get injured in the pocket, too.
True but SY, one of the best ever running QBs agrees that pocket passing wins ball games. Defenses will adjust.
He’s also said he wished he could have played in the pistol early in his career when his legs were fresh.
Your operative word *early* and he’s lucky he didn’t because he probably would not have had a long career. These guys aren’t helping their longevity with the read option.
The read option has certainly helped the Seahawks’ Super Bowl chances this season.
When you’re a pure passing QB you don’t need gimmicky crap like the pistol. Do you think Walsh would have ever put Joe Montana into the Pistol offense if it was being used at the time? How many times have you seen Brady or Peyton run the pistol? And let’s face it, Steve Young was very athletic for a QB but he never had the speed of Wilson or Kaepernick and would have been destroyed trying to run the Pistol.
CFC, I agree with everything but SY being slower. He ran a 4.5 4o yd dash and RWil ran a 4.55. CK was clocked at 4.53.
I ran a 4.51 as a freshman in college. I have a witness, too.
GC, there are 3 read option QBs in the playoffs. We’ll see who wins the SB this year. BTW, CK has been better from the pocket than running the read option the last 7 games.
Cant argue those numbers but in pads on the field the other two look much quicker then what I remember ‘ol lumbering Steve-o looking like back in the day.
I meant to say that Young would have been destroyed running the read-option as you don’t always have to run that play out of the pistol.
Grant said: “I ran a 4.51 as a freshman in college. I have a witness, too.”
Yea but you were only running 20 yards!
It was 40 yards on the track at Drake stadium. My dad ran a 23.2 200-meter dash when he was in his 20s. The Cohn Zohn has that quick twitch.
GC, I was fast but not that fast. You had some wheels!
Did you ever run track? What was your event? I walked on my senior year of high school and had a blast. Ran the 200 hundred and the intermediate hurdles.
Must have been using T.O’s stopwatch.
No I played team sports.
They blitzing to much and leaving the field wide open.
They are blitzing to much and leaving the field wide open. This game was over but Washingtons defense is letting things happen need to cover. I guess thats what makes the 49ers unique is they blitz only 3.
without J.Smith we will be blitzing more
We’ve got ourselves a ballgame folks!
Redskins press receivers well.
they’re kicker is hurt. Have you seen there punter try kickoffs
limp dog!!
it’s crazy how successful seattle is when running the read option or bootleg.
if only my niners can consistently run it we would have a shot a the SB.
Seahawks definitly leagues dirtiest team
Seahawks hold on every play and it is so obvious.
I actually think Kap should take off more often. He is a bit hesitant. I like him being a pass first Qb but I think he could help himself out a lot by at least challenging the line of scrimmage and forcing the linebackers and safeties commit.
Hes not hesitant i believe the coaches r teling him not to run.. just my opinion because hes had plenty of chances to run but always handa it off.
he is hesitant because he lacks the experience, watching the wilson you can see he is now 100% comfortable with his offense compared to earlier in the yr.
I absolutely agree with Techie on this. There were multiple times against Seattle and and Arizona where he ran around behind the LOS and just drifted toward the sidelines when he would have been better served to run forward and challenge the LOS and make the linebackers come up… this could have opened up holes in the defense Young used to do that very well.
Techie
You’re saying that Kaep, who ran the pistol all 4 years at Reno and set records doing it, is uncomfortable running that offense? Seriously?
Plus they have RTurbin. Wow
SEA went to the well too many times. That would have been a perfect play action fake to ML up the gut and either run or throw to the right.
Clemens just tore that ACL.
are you sure?
yup, he is out
Not Quite. Just a sprain.
tripping!! Seahags are getting no penalties against them.
Redskins now getting pushed around on both sides of the ball. Only by watching this game do I realize how much i want the Seahawks to get beaten!
Dirty team
RW missing easy passes.
Skins are playing defense like they go up against a read option mobile QB in practice. LOL
Did you c that knee to morris’s face when he was down
That sucks
Sneaky Pete..I always keep an eye out for that guy. He loves to win..not just coach, but win.
Put Cousins in. RG3 is hurt.
Too late now. Niner fan, but Seahawks are Super Bowl bound. It is what it is.
now you show… where were you in the first quarter?
Kirk Cousins. Can’t believe this game is even close Seattle has double the offense.
Funny, out of the blue, got home and wondered if Grant would do a non 49er blog?..and here he is.
Mike Shanahan just gambled away RG3 career….
+1
Hope not..he’s up.
They are absolutely taken years off of RG3 career there is no reason for him to be in there.
NFC West is best!
Not sure why when you have the lead for the whole game, like the Skins did, you abandon the run against the Seahawks. This is where this game was lost. The Seahawks are mediocre against the run and the Skins played right into their hands
A couple of years ago the NFL was laughing at the NFC West.
They got lucky RG3 was hurt tonight.
Hopefully I am wrong on both teams but I see Seahawks vs Packers.
The 9ers have the best backup QB in the playoffs.
Hofer,
Hahahaha! The backup QB is not needed in the playoffs. Who cares how good he is.
Poor skins, too bad they are garbage. Seahawks send em home crying
Why didn’t you show up in the 1st quarter? Did you not now what time the game started? Haha. You Seahawks fans are bandwagon fans. If you’re gonna come up here. Come when the game starts and leave when it ends coward. You’ll know where we are after next Saturday if you get past Atlanta. We’ll be at the “Stick” waiting for you.
You talk a big game now when the redskin QB got hurt and could not execute on their game plan! The only garbage is your coach and the dirty drug using players. GO Niners
That loss was on Shanahan. When griffin got hurt, he should’ve been out of there. Cousins has mad plays for that team RGIII couldn’t even run. They still had the lead when Griffin got hurt. Shanahan didn’t even give them a chance.
23J – You are right, he should’ve been pulled when up by 14. His
throws were sailing because he was favoring the injury. Accuracy was affected.
yep, that’s what I was saying
Crabs,
Exactly. RGIII showed how selfish he was by not letting coach know he couldn’t help the team. Coach has to sit him down. Regardless to what he says.
It’s not on him. They should have known when he wasn’t running and evading the rush well.
I agree! They should have pulled him out of the game to give the team a chance. I felt for RGIII he could not even plant his leg to throw the ball!
Redskins receivers scared to get hit.
yup
Skins went pathetic at the end – Morgan et al were shortarming catches, afraid of the big corners. Seattle is just big/strong/fast and young, and they overwhelmed these guys. Not sure a healthy RG3 changes the outcome of this game. But i hope the Falcons take these guys down
a healthy RG3 would ahve ran all over them. there were plays out there where he could have taken off.
Another week of dealing with inflated ego Seahawks fans. Joy.
sherman is classless. You see him talking smack after the game to Williams? I would have decked him!!!
Grant – long time reader but first time poster. I have been pondering this thought since the 49ers stadium announcement; have you heard anything regarding the design and acoustics of the new stadium. I think it would be a huge advantage if they could have a similar design to Seattle’s as it gives the Seahawks a huge field advantage. BTW, I used to sprint at Drake stadium too, then have Diddy Riese after.
Thanks for writing in, Wes.
The 49ers new stadium will be wide open, unlike Seattle’s stadium.
I wish they would ban noisy stadiums. Keep architecture out of the game by limiting noise. Win by playing not by noise.
Diddy Riese is the shiznit! 10 years after graduating I walked in during an LA visit and they remembered me and my sandwich. Nice!
Kap has to be more decisive about taking off next week. These young QB’s have too much speed not to use it.
That’s how RG3 got initially hurt, running against the Ravs.
Great point Hofer. Kaepernick needs to be a pocket passer with enough elusiveness to extend plays and avoid the big hit. Running QBs have a short shelf life, even when they have world class athletic talent like RG III. Kaep has the arm and touch to be a great drop back QB if he can stay healthy.
23J – It sure is great having the luxory of a dual threat QB who is unafraid to throw deep. I agree, he should not hesitate to run. Speed kills.
I’ll never root for the Seahawks. Can’t believe any 49er fan would just because they are in our division. They are our rivals and they are still in the 49ers way as of now. What are you going to say if they meet in the NFCCG after giving them props after this game and win? Going to jump on the Seahawk bandwagon? Not this 49er fan.
To be the best you have to beat the best. On to the Pack…
Hofer, it’s just as a 49er fan, I’ll never root for the Seahawks if they go to the SB just because they are in our division and the 49ers don’t. It’s a line I’ll never cross. Plain and simple.
Spaceborn
It’s not just that; they’re a really dirty and soulless team. The Adderall thing was a serious infraction and the league’s response was laughable. Harbaugh’s statement to the officiating office about their DBs illegal contact downfield still has merit, so it’s disappointing that they continue to get away with it. The call on the Redskins for holding within 5 yards today was a joke, especially given the lack of a call on Browner on Earl Thomas’ interception. Watch it again if you missed it. He just cleared out Garçon with his back to the ball while Thomas dove underneath to grab it… I could go on and on………
I just don’t believe in having a “second” team like some fans do. What kind of hollow victory would it be to say: “An NFC West team won the SB!” If it isn’t the 49ers, it can’t be anything more than “bandwagoning” in my opinion – trying to catch a little bit of “feel good” taken directly from your own team’s loss does not cut it if you are truly “Faithful.” I could never look at myself in the mirror after doing that as I would feel like a traitor. Extreme? Yeah, I’m a hard-core 49er fan and make no excuses for being one!
I’ve seen praises for the NFC West, but that is about media perception, not 49er fan perception – and I don’t really get those that post that kind of BS. It’s all 49ers if you are “all in.”
I despise the dirty Seahawks, now more then the Giants. Also Pete Carroll is the biggest scumbag in sports. I hope we play them for the NFC crown after we destroy the Packers.
spaceborn i truly dislike the seahawks for the way the players play! I do not like their dirty play showing wideouts and trying to get under your skin! I will root for any team to beat them! However it would be nice if they can beat Atlanta and we can beat the packers for a show down in San Francisco. GO NINERS
Josh Morgan looked frightened out there, he was hearing footsteps. The crowd was booing him on that last pass that he flinched on. The pass he let go over the middle was even worse.
I’m looking forward to a SEA/9er NFCCG so MC can show JMorg how to handle those SEA CBs. Good times. Jiiimmmmyyyyy!!!!
Hofer – Wow, you’ve changed your stance on Crabtree finally. I remember before season started, you thought Crabtree might not even be a starter this year.
Glad you see the light now Hofe, good times!
MC has come on this year. Last year, he wasn’t much of an asset in the NO or NYG playoff games. I’m hoping he comes through, although again, like last year, the 9ers are thin at WR. I don’t put a lot of hope in RM. I hope I’m wrong.
The QB wasnt an asset against the giants. Crabtree hasnt learned how to throw himself a pass yet. Thank god we arent relying on Alex to get the ball to Crabs anymore.
WRs had no identity with Alex throwing 8 yard darts all the time. Yeah yeah, I know Taylor and Rice used to turn 8 yard Montana darts into touchdowns all the time, but those were different defenses they faced and those routes were available because Montana could hit downfield passes with the same accuracy as the short passes. Kaep to Crab. CrabKaep.
Interesting that AS didn’t have a problem finding VD but CK doesn’t know his name. Again, it doesn’t matter, if MC comes through and the 9ers win, it doesn’t matter.
Hofer
Do some research, then come back here and tell us how many targets and catches Vernon had in Alex’s last 3 full games. Thanks. Then maybe you will be taken seriously. Your biased and unsubstantiated opinions are tiresome.
Mr. E,
You are relatively new here, although I understand for some reason you changed your user name several times. I’ve been here 4+ years and back my comments by stats/facts. Now on to the GB game.
Hofer
I don’t care how long anyone’s been here, but I’ve been around for 2 seasons, since you seem to put stock in it.
Alex has been around for 8 years, and Colin only 2, but Colin is a much better QB. See how it works?
Now, about those “facts”? What have you found to support your recent opinions? Vernon a frequent Alex target, most read-option QBs get hurt, etc…? Bring some facts, Hofer.
For the record, as a 2 year community member in these parts, I always though you were a credible guy, that is, until Kaep took Alex’s job by outplaying him. Since that move, your posts are reminiscent of DS, One Niner, and Jordo, agenda-driven. At least you don’t resort to namecalling, like Neal or Primate (or me sometimes, yikes).
Mr. E. – You nailed it, Hofer changed when our QB changed. It’s unfortunate how negative he’s become. I thought he was one of the best in here up until the QB change. His posts used to be informative and creative, now it’s all bitterness with a few phony positive comments.
The Alex thing got to him. Has he ever complimented Kaepernick and meant it? This stats/facts garbage is tiresome and boring for all of us. I can find negative stats/facts on any player in the NFL if I look hard enough. It’s so cheesy to do that.
If any of my favorite Niners (Crabtree, Gore, Cowboy, Brooks & Bowman) were benched I would not cry for 2 months about it. Especially when their winning their division and hosting a playoff game.
Crab,
My opinion was that no player should be replaced by injury. I don’t get over disloyalty quickly. CK is growing on me, but it won’t happen over night. Regarding negativeness and bitterness, it didn’t deter you from befriending the known AS blamer from last year. Who was the most bitter and negative last year Crab? He’s your new buddy!! LOL
Hofer
There is no disloyalty, can’t you see that? Without Harbaugh, Alex would be on the scrap heap on some NFL scrap heap. He owes Harbaugh everything for building a system in which he could look good. H is not a top-flight QB, never will be. But he’ll get another multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, as well as a chance to start, and it’s all because of Harbaugh. Why should Harbaugh handcuff the careers of 52 other 49ers by stickig with Alex due to misplaced loyalty if he thinks Kaepernick, and NOT Alex, can take the team to a Lombardi Trophy in 2013? Answer that, Hofer.
There were many other than fans that viewed it as disloyalty and we’ll leave it at that. You never liked AS and it is well documented. We disagree, so it is time to move ahead to focusing on the GB game.
Hofer – Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Be yourself….. I forgot to mention, you used to be funny too…. Who are you now Hofe???
I hope you still appreciate what Harbaugh has done for this franchise.
Crab,
JH has done plenty for this franchise. I don’t hold replacing QBs against him, just how and when he did it. Regarding bitterness/negativeness, you never brought this up last year during the playoffs. It must be double standards I guess. Again, take a look at the comments this time last year from those that you wished to ignore. Now you are in their circle. smh
Hofer
Hofer believes that Harbaugh should be loyal to Smith at the expense of the other 52 49ers players.
Leave it at that? Well-documented? Not at all. I supported Smith with great fervor last season, but like Harbaugh, I saw all I needed to see of Smith’s true abilities in the back to back games against the Giants and Seahawks early this season.
So, Hofer, you just totally disavow the idea that pre-Harbaugh Smith and post-Harbaugh Smith are two completely different commodities on the NFL market? That Smith would be where he is today, with a lucrative contract coming his way, a starter’s contract, without Harbaugh? C’mon man! You’re reaching. Get a clue, buddy. Your nose is stuck so far up Alex’s rear that you can’t smell the roses.
Hofer,
Harbaugh is loyal, to the TEAM. That is how it should be. His decision to start Kaep over Smith may seem shrewd, but it was hardly disloyal. His loyalty is to the team, not to Alex Smith. Harbaugh is the reason that Smith has improved his play and will be an attractive free agent this off season. I’m sure Smith is loyal to Harbaugh for that.
Morgan is a pansy
I can’t believe Richard Sherman went to Stanford. You have to have more class than that, win or lose. He certainly does not exemplify what that academic institution stands for. I don’t understand the guy. Losing humbles you. He gets to find out how good he is next week against Roddy White and Julio Jones. Now that’s a test.
49ers vs Seahawks in NFCCG
Jack, it’s not what you said the last couple of days. SEA is hot as is GB. Once the 9ers win over GB, then the 9ers are there. SEA matches up well against the 9ers and it will take all GR can muster to get over the hump. Good times.
I want the seaturds to lose against the Falcons, I have no problem in playing the Falcons at Atlanta, although the Packs game is going to be easy.
” not going to be easy”
I’d rather play Atlanta in Atlanta than have to play Seattle in San Fran. The Hawks are for real, and have a real shot at winning the Superbowl this year.
Atlanta’s defense and run game are nothing special. Seattle is good to great in all aspects.
But….first things first. We’re going to have a tough time with Green Bay. Justin Smith’s injury could turn out to be a devastating loss. If he wasn’t injured, we’re the favourites to win the Superbowl. Without him? I’m not so sure….
We don’t have a good replacement player for Justin Smith, although the Packers are not a great running game, although they will try to exploit our weaknesses.
Right Hofer, I said 49ers against Redskins, but Seattle won so I think they will now come to SF.
And yes they are hot right now. Wilson and Lynch make a great 1-2 punch out of their read option package. They are scary right now.
Neal
Nobody has a good replacement player for Justin Smith, except the Texans. That dude is a gigawatt gamechanger. RickyJean and the rest of the boys will have to hold their own, and the Twinside LBs will have to play large. Expect great things from #55 next Saturday.
Mr. E,
I know that but RJ is pretty weak, you can see him go backwords 5 or 6 yards a play. JS only knows one way and that is towards the QB.
Neal
RJ technique might still be rough, but he is technically stronger in his lower body than every other Niner. No argument that he’s not JS.
I’m hoping so Jack. I’ve never went out if my way to talk $hit to a team after the game. But if this comes true. I WILL go out of my way to see these chumps leave the field and I guarantee!!!!! With my $hit talking skills I will get at least one to bite. Nothing could be better than to see the hated Packers and Craphawks leave the field losers!
Right now in lameattle theres a bunch of pasty white guys in corduroys and flannels dancing around their Subaru outbacks..Haha..that team is winning the SB its set up by the league cause they hold every play and never get called and every lucky play belongs to them..
There’s also the fact that they’re really, really good. Don’t forget that.
Your canadian what would you know…your an undercover seagull lover…
Grinch, just because we acknowledge that SEA is good and they played well today, validated by their win over Wash today, doesn’t mean that you dismiss them. I hope the 9ers see them in the NFCCG.
Grinch,
You may have missed the pasting Seattle laid on us a couple weeks ago…..that was no joke. Unlike some, I choose to take a realistic view of things.
“Shame on Shanahan for leaving Griffin in the game.” Um, it’s the playoffs. You play to win the game, hello!?! ‘Hawks Pack NFC Championship game.
Gulls are really easy to dislike between thier douchebag coach and Sherman..Nothing would please me more then to knock this lucky bandwagon team out of the championship at the stick!

It was obvious Griffin wasn’t giving them the best chance to win.
GC, we had this convo earlier today, running QBs (read option) get hurt. RG3 was initially hurt running against the Ravs. Now when he is need most, he’s not at optimum health.
*needed*
AS has been hurt plenty in his career and he is the opposite of a running QB.
Neal, it was an expansion team and terrible OL. Come on you are better than that. You know the history my friend.
Hof,
Same history as Andrew Luck, horrific team and got in the playoffs?
Hofer,
Yeah Cam Newton stays hurt doesnt he? Its football. Injuries happen. Was alex Smith running the read option wgen he git his shoulder hurt on 2 different occasions. Was he running the read option when he got his bell
rung this year? That argument has no merit.
AS does not have the talent, that Cam Newton, RG 3, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and CK. has It is just a fact!!!
Jordan, last time I looked, CN didn’t have a good year and he is no where near a playoff QB. His numbers have declined from his rookie year. I don’t wish injury on any player but running QBs cause turnovers or get injured. SY played as long as he did because he became a pocket passer. The last 10+ SBs have won with pocket passers.
Neal, you bring up AS in a string that had nothing to do with him. Interesting….
Hofer
You don’t make solid arguments. Yeah, RGIII gets hurt all the time, but what about Wilson? Is he hurt? Was he? Has he been? RGIII just plays stupid once he takes off, while Wilson and Kaep take care of themselves.
Hof,
Interesting that you don’t think so.
Listening to Trent Dilfer talk about about how to be an elite QB in the NFL is as ludicrous as listening to OJ Simpson talk about how to recover stolen property…
I’m actually a big fan of Dilfer as an analyst. I think he does a pretty good job. The other day I watched him illustrate some of the subtle things Wilson’s been doing as a rookie, and it was really informed and engaging stuff.
Yes TD works hard and does a good job as an analyst.
“4:23 Which two teams do you think will play in the NFC Championship game?”
If Justin Smith can play 80% or better, the 49ers and Seahawks will play in the NFC Championship. If not, Green Bay and Seattle.
That’s why I was rooting for the Vikings. If you have to play Seattle, better on Saturday when the 49ers have 13 days rest and Seahawks only have 6 days rest (and has to travel back from DC).
Instead of a tire Seattle, we host Green Bay after they had an easy tune-up game. The Packers will have (relatively) fresh legs Saturday. The 49ers better be at their best.
Yeah I think GB is a tough match-up for the Niners even though we beat them once already.
The Packers aren’t going to come here and roll over. The Niners must bring the intensity on D and a solid game plan on O. Its time for GRo to step up.
Whoo hits. Set the tone early. Make their receivers start to reach with alligator arms. Unleash Gore and score. Win this game against the Packers, and the 49ers will host Seattle for the grudge match I’ve been asking for.
Espn is reporting that Chip Kelly is staying at Oregon – yes!!!
Does GB know we are about to bust a Kaep in them…
Like how we busted a Kaep in Seattle and against St. Louis?
Stl and Sea did most of the busting in those games
If he wasn’t ready to coach in the NFL this year will he ever be? The report on PFT is that the Browns are the ones that walked away from Kelly. If that is even remotely true then the reason he isn’t in the NFL sounds like has nothing to do with Kelly’s decision to not be there but in fact that NFL teams really aren’t that sold on his ability to be relevant at the next level.
If teams aren’t ready to buy in now when he’s about as hot as he could possibly be then I have to wonder if he’ll ever end up being an NFL coach.
Atlanta will beat Seattle. That is all.
If the pattern of 2 wins followed by a loss continues, the Niners will beat GB and then lose in Atlanta or at home to Seattle. Ouch.
The Seahawks resemble GB of 2010 and NY Giants of last year. Both of those teams got on a roll late in the season, went to Atlanta and smacked down the Falcons. If that pattern hold, then Seattle will win the Super Bowl.
Having said all that, I’m hoping and looking forward to the Niners beating Seattle in the NFCCG to reach the Super Bowl.
Yeah i hate the sinking feeling about Seattle. They will not be denied and have all the momentum. You can see they believe they can win.
It’s hardt to know which Niner team will show up. It almost feels like it’s not their year because of all their injuries, or somehow they dig deep and find a way to win despite all the adversity.
I really like that both Seattle and the 49ers are good teams again. I remember when we were named the NFC Worst, now there are legitimate arguments about the NFC West being the strongest division in football. Also I like having real division rivals and not just chumps the 49ers steamroll 2 times a year. The seahawks rise to power is not bad for the 49ers both teams are very good and look to be very good for a long time.
I agree. Remember the early/mid ’80′s when the Rams had Eric Dickerson and Kevin Green? They were a very tough divisional opponent and made for a great rivalry.
Both victorious NFC teams were lucky this weekend going up against teams with hurt QB’s. Matt ryan is way better than a hurt Rg3. CK is better than Web. Atlanta’s defense at home is better than the banged up redskins. The niners defense is better than the Vikings defense.
We need to turn candlestick into a fortress again.
