The 49ers lost the Super Bowl 34-31 on Sunday. Here are the grades for the offense.
Offensive line: A-. This group struggled in the first half when Haloti Ngata was healthy. They couldn’t open up any holes for Frank Gore, who had 11 carries for just 29 yards. And Anthony Davis gave up a sack on third and goal from the eight yard line.
But the 49ers’ O-line dominated in the second half, especially after Ngata hurt his knee and left the game. Gore rushed nine times for 81 yards, and Colin Kaepernick had all the time in the world to pass.
Running backs: C+. Frank Gore had an extraordinary second half, as I explained above. He finished the game with 19 carries for 110 yards. He set up the 49ers’ last stand at the Ravens’ seven yard line with a 33-yard run. He got better as the game went on. The 49ers rarely lose when Gore rushes more than 23 times. It’s a shame he didn’t run the ball more in this game.
He could have taken LaMichael James’ carries, who only rushed three times for 10 yards. James fumbled in the second quarter, and the Ravens scored a touchdown ten plays later.
Wide receivers: C+.
Michael Crabtree caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. He caught a 24-yard pass on second and 10 from the 49ers’ 36 yard line to jump start their final drive.
He also dropped a pass and ran a poor route on the 49ers’ final offensive play of the game, the desperation heave to Crabtree in the corner of the end zone. Crabtree ran inside, right into the cornerback and got tangled up. He should have run outside to the back pylon.
Randy Moss made little to no effort all night. He either caught passes with his body, alligator armed them or watched them sail by. He confirmed that he is not the greatest receiver of all time, not even close.
No other 49er receiver caught a pass. First round pick A.J. Jenkins managed to go the entire 19-game season without catching a single pass. You have to wonder if he’ll even make the team next season.
Tight ends: A-. Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker were outstanding receivers and blockers Sunday night. Walker had the key block on Gore’s touchdown run in the third quarter. Both tight ends combined to catch nine passes for 152 yards. The Ravens simply were not fast enough to cover these guys. Most defenses aren’t fast enough to cover them.
Vernon Davis did drop a deep pass on the 49ers’ final offensive drive, but Crabtree caught a 24-yard pass on the next play, so Davis’ drop did not cost the team.

What took so long? Let’s get a little more production out of you, get the comments posted a little faster. Did Lowell put you in timeout last night and ruin your postgame mojo?
he has to wait until he talks to dad before he can write anything. Also waits for the Niners PR guys to post something so he can cut and paste
The day I see 49er receivers dive for a ball? I know that Harbaugh has hired a good receiver coach. That’s been a bug all year. Are they that afraid of personal stats “Dropped passes” that they wont try?
Who cares?
DW played pretty well in the post season. Should/will the 9ers resign him or will he walk in FA?
Depends on how much he is asking for. He is valuable guy in the fact he is versatile and helps in a number of areas, but he’s not a guy who makes a lot of plays and puts points on the board. They can replace Walker if they have to without having it affect the production very much imo.
It’s not what he is asking for, in my opinion. Some team will make him an offer he can’t refuse. He’s this year’s David Baas, Blake Costanzo, Adam Snyder and Joshua Morgan. All got overpaid and longer contracts from their new teams. Baalke and Paraage have a number and stick to it. Love Delanie for his versatility but I’m prepared to see him in another uniform next season. I hope I’m surprised.
Randy Moss is a joke.
Exactly, if he doesn’t try for a ball in the SB, he doesn’t deserve one. I hope we can win one next year without him on the team
moss could have had a TD pass except crabtree tipped the ball away….Kap was throwing to Moss on that first FG it could have been a TD
You’re assuming Moss would have even gone for that ball had it not been tipped.
whatever, ball was on target…..
I think that ball to Moss was right on target. He wouldn’t have had to “go” anywhere for it……..the one Crabgrass tipped.
What if Manningham were around?
I hate hearing people say that ball was uncatchable. Crab was unable to elevate. Assuming he is able to jump 2-3 feet, that ball is definitely in range to catch. That bein said, play calls were awful. Three straight passes to crab? And a back shoulder fade to him? I would have liked an isolation back shoulder fade to Moss on 2nd. Followed by a run by gore on 3rd. But whatever, it does no good to complain. We will bounce back and be feared next year.
Grant there is zero chance AJ Jenkins doesn’t make the team next year. They drafted him because they liked his talent and they aren’t going to bail after one season in which they didn’t give him much of an opportunity.
As to the game, disappointing isn’t a strong enough word to describe it. The Niners have been living on a precipice of a major fall since the second half of the Patriot game and it finally caught up to them yesterday. Every game for the last 6 weeks are so has seen this team come out unprepared to start the game, offense sluggish, defense giving up big plays in the passing game, big deficits to fight back from and you can only go to the well so many times.
There were numerous mistakes but here are some that were huge for me:
1) Ravens first drive, they have third down and 9, pass goes incomplete and Brooks is called for offsides giving them a second chance to get a TD which they do.
2) Niners move into the Redzone on their 3rd drive with a chance to take the lead or get within one and LMJ fumbles the ball.
3) Culliver gets beat deep on an in and up, does not touch Jones deciding instead to jump over him, and the Ravens get a late 1st half TD to go up 21-3.
4) Opening KO of the 2nd half is returned by Jones for a TD. There were players in position to make a play and none sold out to make it. An absolute gift to the Ravens.
5) Last Niner drive of the game, 3rd down from the 5, Kap takes the snap looks outside right away and throws incomplete to Crabtree who would have only been at the 3 even if he made the catch. If Kap hadn’t zoned in on Crabs alone, he would have seen Moss standing by himself in the End Zone for an easy TD. Instead they had to go on 4th down and the rest is history.
Just a few examples of game changing mistakes the Niners made yesterday. A lot of people are pointing to the non holding call on Jimmy Smith, but it should never come to one play and the Niners really did not deserve to win this game after the way they played for the first 30+ minutes. I think we really saw a young team that was nervous and overwhelmed compared to a Ravens team that was battle tested and poised from the beginning. I’m not usually one to put much stock in experience being a huge factor, but it was apparent that it was in this game. By the time the Niners got out of their funk and started playing the way they could, it was too late.
One last point for those who focused on the 3rd down and Redzone problems against the Giants in the NFCCG last year, the Niners were 2-9 on third down in this game and scored only 2 TD’s on 6 trips inside the RedZone. It was and continues to be a problem that the Coaches have to figure out. They have to develop some bread and butter plays for these situations and not be outthinking themselves by throwing 3 straight passes from the 5 yard line.
Bitter end to what was a great season. As crappy as I feel right now I’m encouraged by the fact this team appears to have the look of a perennial contender for the forseeable future and this amazing young QB has only started 10 games and already looks like a top 5 player. To quote Hofer, all arrows appear to be pointing up and that’s the one positive we can focus on today.
They drafted Jenkins because he’s fast, has the size supposedly to play three positions and has big hands. They figured they could coach the rest. He displayed no skills and no improvement this year.
You don’t know that Grant. You weren’t at practice throughout the season watching his progress and he didn’t see the field much so it’s quite a reach to suggest he didn’t improve in any area or display any skills. You are jumping to your own conclusion based on not having a body of work to make it from.
If Jenkins had improved, he would have passed Ted Ginn Jr. on the WR depth chart.
Jenkins is soft, he’s not shifty and he doesn’t fight for the ball. He could not beat man coverage in training camp. Nothing has changed.
Grant,
I think it was obvious that they weren’t expecting him to contribute this year. They lost Manningham and Williams. They basically had Crabtree as a WR at the end of the year. I’ll wait until next year to put a grade on him. Regardless, they need to draft a couple of big bodied receivers and get to work. Moss will be gone and Williams and Manningham will be coming off of significant injuries. Anquan Boldin will likely be released by the Ravens because of their cap situation. He would be a short term solution, but I think he would be a perfect fit until they can get some younger guys up to speed. Walker doesn’t make a lot of plays, but he really is a big part of why this passing game works.
In otherwords, a Al Davisian pick.
Totally. WR coach John Morton is a former Raider wide receiver and coach.
Actually, Coby Fleener was an Al Davis pick. A guy that runs fast in a straight line in underwear, was over-drafted because of it and didn’t live up to the hype.
“If he falls to 17, the Niners should consider themselves lucky and trade up for the future perennial Pro Bowler.”
Hey, he was better than Jenkins. Let’s see how Fleener does with the new offensive coordinator.
He sure doesn’t pass the eyeball test. There was a photo of him and RM and Moss looked like lineman compared to Jenkins.
If they can bulk him up let’s see what that does for his confidence, if he still can’t get physical enough then I can see them letting him go after his second season.
If he doesn’t show improvement in the offseason and training camp he may not make the cut. They have to draft a wide receiver to compete with him.
Grant,
He wasn’t going to pass Ginn on the depth chart when they only dressed a certain number of WR’s on gameday. Ginn was the Punt returner so he was always going to be active.
You are seriously overlooking how this played out this year imo. Jenkins started the year 6th on the WR depth chart and not because he was awful. They had some good depth at the position and Ginn who was a Return man first. Jenkins spent most of the season on the scout team; not running plays with the starters. The injuries to Williams and Manningham happened late in the year so expecting a rookie who has not practiced his own offense that much and hasn’t played at all to come in and play a big role on a SB contender is a big time stretch imo.
There is no question he needs to add some muscle to be able to deal with press coverage better, but there is no way they are going to cut the guy after one season. They will work with him and try to get the play out of him they saw in his College film. You can’t make a conclusion on what you saw this year.
I didn’t expect Jenkins to play a big role. I expected him to do more than nothing.
Chad Hall picked up the offense enough for Roman to call a play for him in his first active game. Jenkins has been active for weeks and he’s been behind Ginn, one of the worst receivers in the NFL, on the WR depth chart. On a key third and seven Roman called a pass play for Ginn, not Jenkins.
Grant you are truly a hindsight King. You didn’t like the Jenkins pick because you wanted Fleener. You also thought Stephen Hill was going in the top ten and Luke Kuechley was a bad pick. Stop for a moment and think about the fact you could be wrong about Jenkins and that just maybe Baalke knew the guy he wanted and will give him time to prove whether he was right or not.
And you’re the world’s greatest expert.
I didn’t like the Jenkins pick because it was a bad pick. So far the evidence has supported my stance.
What was your Super Bowl prediction? Mine was Ravens by three.
I realize that the line between end of the first and beginning of the second round is blurred but don’t you think Baalke will give a former #1 more then just two training camps to show he can compete especially if it’s a size issue more then skill?
They would have drafted a WR even if Jenkins panned out I think. The team needs to set themselves up to be ready if Crabtree decides to test the market in 2014. No one currently on the team is or will be as good as MC so they’ll need to have a potential replacement lined up rather then wait and see if he leaves and then draft a WR out of desperation. Plus I’m only 50% certain that Moss will be back and Williams although raw still has to show he can a) stay healthy and b) truly produce as a wide receiver on a consistent basis.
It’s definitely a skill issue. Jenkins has no shake at the line of scrimmage. Manningham had shake. Jenkins has none. He’s not quick or shifty. He gets jammed easily. And he doesn’t fight for the ball.
*edit*
replace “They would have drafted”
“They will probably still draft”
Grant,
Jenkins is a rookie. Ginn is not. Nobody is saying Jenkins had a great year; I’m saying you cannot draw the conclusions you are based on what you’ve seen. The kid has played a handful of snaps and had one ball thrown his way. Chad Hall had one play they liked him for and we didn’t see him again. This is a situational offensive Coaching staff that gets a little to cute at times and does things like that.
Bottomline is there is absolutely no way they are going to cut Jenkins. You don’t give up on a first round pick like that.
And you’re the world’s greatest expert.
If you say it you’ve gotta wear it Grant and there’s no need to get testy. I’ve never said I was an expert and I wanted Fleener too. What I don’t do is pretend I know more than the guys who get paid to watch hours of film and decide who to take with a draft pick. You show your youth and inexperience quite often with your views and this was one of them.
I didn’t like the Jenkins pick because it was a bad pick. So far the evidence has supported my stance.
Trent Baalke thought it was the right pick so I will defer to him until I see otherwise. There isn’t enough evidence to support your stance, just your opinion.
What was your Super Bowl prediction? Mine was Ravens by three.
Niners 27-24, what’s that got to do with AJ Jenkins?
Annotating my comment line for line like you’re my teacher. What an ego. What was the last thing you were right about?
Im trying to not sound like I’m defending the kid because I agree that he should have started to contribute at least by the second half and the fact that he didn’t record a single catch is pretty terrible for that high of a pick.
With that said you just don’t see many GM’s that are willing to admit mistakes like that so I’m asking if you think Baalke would honestly cut a first round pick less then two years after making it?
If Jenkins doesn’t improve, I don’t think Harbaugh will want another year of a 6th or 5th wide receiver not contributing. If Jenkins is below Ginn on the depth chart, Jenkins has to be in the running for the worst receiver in the NFL, and he doesn’t even play special teams. There is no place for a player like that. He has to improve to make the team next season. I’m not saying he won’t improve. He can certainly get stronger. I doubt he can get shiftier, and I doubt he’ll start attacking passes in the air.
second half of the season I meant.
“And you’re the world’s greatest expert. I didn’t like the Jenkins pick because it was a bad pick. So far the evidence has supported my stance.”
Grant,
You were ready to mortgage the draft for Fleener, you said Luke Kuechly wasn’t worth a first round pick and that Big Twelve receivers are garbage. Kuechly was DROY and Blackmon and Wright both outperformed Fleener by a wide margin, despite horrible QB play. Fleener turned out to be a fragile, one trick pony that defenses could handle, not the perennial Pro Bowler like you claimed. In fact, he wasn’t even the best rookie tight end on his team, that honor belongs to Dwayne Allen, their third round choice. But what can I say, you can run a faster 40 than Luke Kuechly.
Justin Blackmon: 64 catches, 865 yards and 5 TD’s.
Kendall Wright: 64 catches, 626 yards and 4 TD’s.
Coby Fleener: 48 catches, 281 yards and 2 TD’s.
Dwayne Allen: (3rd round draft pick) 66 catches, 521 yards and 3 TD’s.

What was the last thing you were right about?
Tsk tsk. Be the bigger man Grant.
Well to be honest rocket AJ Jenkins hasn’t done anything given his practice time and limited game time. The proof is in what Harbaugh and Roman think of him. We had Manningham and Kyle Williams go down this year and had very little depth left at WR yet still Jenkins couldn’t see the field. That alone should tell you something.
When Kendall Hunter went down, they had the confidence to insert LMJ. We lost not one but 2 WRs, including one of our starters, and Jenkins still couldn’t make the cut.

I’m not sure that being below Ginn means anything, as mentioned before Ginn is ALWAYS going to be active because of his returner roll but where it looked bad was when Chad Hall was essentially moved in front. Seeing that was certainly an eye opening peek into the teams opinion of Jenkins.
I think if he bulked up you might see a more aggressive at the line receiver and one that fights for the ball more as far as shifty I cant say but he seemed to do ok in College and was apparently still going to be a second round pick if we hadn’t drafted him so other teams saw something as well.
I think he’ll get most or all of the next preseason and if they cut him it’ll be in the final cuts so Baalke can try and save a little face.
Ginn played 34 snaps at wide receiver in the playoffs. Jenkins played 10.
Grant,
I posted your comments followed by mine because you made multiple statements and it’s easier for others to follow and allows me to not have to keep scrolling up to look at what you said. No malice intended so put the gun down.
This has nothing to do with ego. I’ve admitted when I’ve made mistakes and I’m certainly not right all the time. I’ve also told you a number of times that your blanket statements and absolute opinions get you into trouble and they do. Now you are getting upset when I’m pointing out exactly that which shows your ego needs to be deflated a bit.
Again I’ve never said I’m right about everything, but if you look at my record in the bets we’ve made I have been right more than you have, and I have doubt that I am right in regards to Jenkins future. To suggest a first round pick who was buried at the bottom of the depth chart could be released after one season is naive Grant I’m sorry. It ranks up there with DS suggesting Crabs would be released and replaced by an undrafted FA. Well not that bad but the same kind of biased thinking anyway.
You didn’t like the Jenkins pick and wrote a scathing diatribe about how bad a pick it was. You haven’t really been objective about this kid from day one and certainly aren’t now. If you want to be angry that I’m being straight with you that is your prerogative but hopefully you can take something more constructive from it than that.
I certainly have been objective about Jenkins. He’s been bad and everyone has reported that. Your optimism is faith-based. You’ve been way off on this team all season, regular season and especially playoffs, so you resort to correcting other people and name calling like a child.
Well considering that Ginn had all of 1 reception for 3 yards maybe they should have played Jenkins more, he clearly wouldn’t have produced any less then Ginn did.
So the coaches are undervaluing Jenkins?
Grant
They undervalued LMJ. They undervalued Kaep until their hand was forced. Why believe they may not have kept AJJ on the bench for too long? There is NO way he could have been worse than Ginn. That much you can agree on, surely.
But hey, Grant, instead of going tit-for-tat with Rocket, who is NEVER wrong (and with his buddy CFC, also NEVER wrong), why not add a little more value to your blog with some speculation on exactly how the team should conduct its draft in April.
You are a paid blogger, which means, of course, that you just had 2 whole weeks, 80 hours, to come up with material to post. It doesn’t take a “Rocket” to see that your blog doesn’t reflect 80 hours of work over the last 2 weeks, so the question is, Where is the stuff you’ve been researching and writing since the Falcons game?
It’s possible although probably not likely. It goes back a little bit to my other question out there about the overall quality of our entire receiver corp.
Also I’d like to be clear that my main argument is not based upon whether Jenkins is talented enough to stay on the team as much as it is about a GM admitting that he wasted a first round pick so soon.
I commonly admit to my many mistakes around here. It’s easy to poke fun at me but give me my due credit as I’m one of the few that sacks up and admits when Im wrong.
CFC
Wrong? You? Never?
For my money I have definitely not seen you come forward to absolve yourself of your love of He Who Shall Not Be Named. Am I missing something?
Worry not, Alec. Twill soon be time for another season. This one is a failed season, and all of us, wrong for believing twould have shaped up any differently.
I certainly have been objective about Jenkins. He’s been bad and everyone has reported that. Your optimism is faith-based. You’ve been way off on this team all season, regular season and especially playoffs, so you resort to correcting other people and name calling like a child.
Yes I’m putting your post on top of mine again Grant because I want everyone to see it and my response to it which is pretty much just shaking my head.
I’d love to see where I was so wrong on the regular season and Playoffs other than wondering if the decision to go to Kap was the right one. I also sided on the side of the HC on that the same way I’m siding on behalf of the GM on the Jenkins pick. I haven’t been right in my weekly predictions all the time just like everybody else but I don’t make concrete statements that are based on my opinion and nothing else most of the time like you do either.
You are showing extremely thin skin Grant. If you are going to run a blog and make statements the way you do, you are going to be called out on them from time to time. You can handle it the right way by being diplomatic and admitting you were wrong or you can be childish and lash out at the guy pointing it out. You’ve obviously chosen the latter.
Rocket, you are in no position to correct anyone on this site. You can disagree, but no more correcting. It’s disrespectful. Your main function on this blog is to explain to others why they’re wrong. You come off as arrogant and you end the discussion.
Hey Pork I’m not sure where you got this idea that I don’t think I’m ever wrong but that isn’t and never has been the case. It seems like you and Grant are a little insecure. I have always corrected people with facts that are counter to their argument if they are making statements that aren’t correlated by the numbers. I mean we can take everybodys word at face value without fact checking and just presume every opinion stated here is correct if you’d prefer, but I want no part of a forum like that.
I made the mistake on Tom Gamble’s current duties with the team and owned up to it so I’m not sure why there is this perception that I am so self absorbed that I can’t see my mistakes.
You guys really need to get over what ever your problem is and start reading the posts instead of making preconceived conclusions on my character.
There would be no blog posts or comments on this forum if arrogance gets you banned.
That was amazing coming from a guy who is saying this about the staff that has brought the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game & Super Bowl the past 2 years: “Obviously, Jim Harbaugh needs to adjust his coaching style…”
Many of the same faults that people find with AJJ (slight of build, lack of physicality) were leveled against LMJ this year as well. Remember the “least muscular guy on team” commentary? We reasoned that having no proof on LMJ (havnt seen him play) was proof in and of itself that LMJ couldn’t play. People said that “if he(lmj) could play the coaches would put him in there to play and the fact that they havn’t done so proves that he is a bum” After LMJ got his chance he proved to us all the HE BELONGED.
I dont know why the coaches havn’t played AJJ but the fact that they havn’t doesn’t prove anything. They could have their reasons for not wanting to trust him late in the season with playoffs on the line. Whatever they are it does not automaticaly mean that they thought ajj was inferior. Brandon jacobs was healthy by week 4 by all acounts yet he didnt play. Why is that? (we dont know so we guess, still recovering from injury or attitude issues) but the point is we will never know (until JH writes a tell all book)
How many mea culpas have we ever heard from you, or are you NEVER WRONG? Mr. E you are this blogs biggest hypocrite. You bash people when they get lippy but yet are always the first to get out of line once you’ve had too many.
As to the QB situation your comments are laughable. I’ve gone out of my way from the beginning to say that the only problem I had with the switch was the timing. Absolutely I supported Alex Smith prior to that because he was my teams starting QB. I wouldn’t have cared if they switched to Colin before the season started or even after but I didn’t like them doing it during. Now if you can find any blog comments from me that suggest my beef was based on anything other then that then go ahead and prove me wrong but since I know you can’t I’ll just say try having a clue about what you’re talking about for a change instead of just talking out of your inebriated azz like you usually do.
CFC
Say what, you lippy dawg? You must be a bit upset that your little buddy Rocket was just put in his place. Wipe the drool off your face, Alec.
As to your um, point(?), as if you had one… I have been wrong only about one thing on this team over the last few years, He Who Shall Not Be Named. I said it would be a good idea to give him a chance with a real coaching staff, but that was clearly wrong, which I admitted. Jordo was right. I was wrong last year, which HWSNBN proved in the NFCCG last year. That’s it. But really, HWSNBN should have been released from the very beginning, and Kaep should have started as a rookie. The fact that HWSNBN was around at the beginning of this year meant that Harbaugh was likely to start him again. That was Harbaugh’s error, and I was wrong for supporting that error.
All you continue to do is confirm what I said about you
That’s real mature, who’s acting like a crying baby?
Isn’t it time for you to change your name again so you can try and build up a new reputation before getting drunk and ruining that one too?
Oh look, commenters on this blog turning on each other after a heartbreaking loss. I’ve seen that before.
Grant turning on commenters, however, is new. rocket must have hit a nerve.
Oh LOOOOK!!!!
To absolutely nobody’s surprise, as soon as Rocket/CFC come under fire, who shows up … but Claude Balls, of course!
What took you so long? Did your trust steed run out of gas?
No, I’ve been bummed for most of the day and didn’t feel like dealing with this place. I figured it would be going all Lord of the Flies. I wasn’t far off. I suspect most of us need some time to come to grips with it.
Based upon just this thread, it appears the loss has caused you to act like even more of a preening d!ck than usual. What did you write that led Grant to censor you this time?
Grant
Did you see this article?

49ers offensive coaches remain confident in 2012 first-rounder A.J. Jenkins’ future despite what was essentially a “redshirt” rookie year.
Claude,
Actually, the comments here have been much more civil than I had expected. Most of the anger right now is directed at the officials (first), the coaches (second) and the secondary (third). I am sure that, as the offseason progresses, we will see more criticism of Kaep and the offense — some of which will be deserved, some of which will not be deserved. But for now, the criticism as negative as I would have expected for the first 49ers QB to lose a Super Bowl.
What I have been a little perplexed by is Grant’s reaction to Rocket’s comments. In general, I admire how Grant handles the criticism he receives here, so I agree that his reaction seemed a bit uncharacteristic to me. However, as I did not follow this blog closely before training camp of 2012, perhaps there is some history of which I am not aware.
@ JPN:
Thanks for the clarification. I guess I just came in at the wrong time.
I can’t help you with the Grant thing; I am as perplexed as you are. In light of some of the vile and mean-spirited things commenters have written about each other in the past without comment or censorship, I was surprised to see that he deleted one of rocket’s comments. Of course, deleted comments always make me curious. “What did he write?” If “demeaning and disgusting” is where the line is now being drawn, then I’m doomed.
+1 Big P haha. The anthony davis vs grant cohn battle was legendary.
Speaking of poking the beehive.
Lol, I don’t think there will be a “Second Annual Anthony Davis, And To A Lesser Extent Colin Kaepernick, Writing Competition.” Hopefully, his aspirations to be the next Skip Bayless disapeared along with those posts.
And there goes your post being deleted Big P. I thought it was a pretty honest assessment.
Grant deleted my post because it was true. It was exactly what I expected. He has to try and clean up the mistakes that his own arrogance created.
It wasn’t true, it was libel.
I don’t know why Grant reacted the way he did to Rocket, but I thought it was pretty funny that he called him arrogant. Grant has a bad habit of speaking in absolutes, and people call him on it. Speaking in absolutes is a way of telling people you are right and that you know more than them. That seems much more arrogant than correcting people when they are wrong. Grant has had an issue with the Jenkins pick because it wasn’t Fleener. Instead of looking at the Jenkins pick for what it was, a part of the future, he focused on his lack of playing time to justify his opinion. Meanwhile, Coby Fleener didn’t do squat in Indy. His defense? “Hey, he was better than Jenkins.” Isn’t that arrogant? What happened to the perennial Pro Bowler? Do you still think it would have been a great idea to trade up into the middle of the first for him? People were not expecting Jenkins to contribute that much this year, while Grant proclaimed perennial Pro Bowls for Fleener before he was even drafted. Which one is arrogant?
“Your main function on this blog is to explain to others why they’re wrong. You come off as arrogant and you end the discussion.”
Rocket, instead of correcting people when they are wrong, you should talk in absolutes and ignore reality when your proclamations don’t come to fruition. That would be less arrogant.
Rocket and I were arguing about Jenkins this morning and Rocket went ad hominem first.
As far as Fleener goes, I still think he’s going to be a Pro Bowler. No, I don’t think the Niners should have traded up for him in hindsight. I was wrong about that.
“It wasn’t true, it was libel.”
Lol, okay Grant. I’ve proved my point. The fact that you are editing my posts confirms it.
Rocket,

Bruce Miller was tackled by two Ravens on the KO retrun for a TD. He would’ve been right in the hole, but he was baltantly held. Check it out, you’ll see.
Also, my first item on your list would’ve been the illegal formation penalty on the 49ers’ first possession that wiped out a 20 yard gain.
exgolfer,
Good points to add to the list. That illegal formation showed me right away that they were nervous and not focused enough. I believe it was Moss who lined up on the line instead of off of it and it’s inexcusable to make an error like that on the first play of the game.
Rocket,
Not that you need to respond to any post, let alone any individual point a given post, but don’t you have any reaction to Bruce Miller being held on the KO returned for a TD? It really was obvious and game changing. He literally would’ve been in the hole Jones burst through.
exgolfer,
I should have given that comment more thought. My apologies. I’ve been busy being arrogant most of the day.
That was pivotal no doubt about it. Jones went right through the hole that was created by that holding call. There was also some really poor angles taken by a couple of players that allowed Jones to get out of the congestion as well. Just another bad moment in a bad game.
Clean up your language or leave, Rocket.
No worries Grant I’m done. You just censored a post that didn’t deserve to be censored and I have no respect for that.
Adios. What you just called the posters on this site was demeaning and disgusting.
Grant,
AJ Jenkins wasn’t expected to make an impact this year just as kaep wasn’t supposed to start. He is drafted for kaep which is the future. And coby fleener will not be good in the nfl because he is very finesse, he is not physical. If u disagree with me look at his blocking.
i pointed out during the draft fleener had bad feet/ankles and a TE can’t have bad feet…..
Well said niners grant probably thought kaepernick was a bust and aldon smith was after the first couple games last year
Moss just doesn’t care enough anymore.
Manningham’s injury hurt us a lot in this game.
Way back in August, I predicted, even after Suggs went down, a 49ers-Ravens Super Bowl. The Ravens were one of the few teams that really worried me all year. I actually predicted a close game, with the 49ers squeaking by. They came up five yards short. With MM and KW in the lineup, I think we would have found a way to win.
I would NOT bring Moss back next year.
Agree on Moss. In one week we saw the same old Randy we all know and hate.
Unfortunately for us that same old Randy came out during Super Bowl week.
i also think Moss wrote his ticket off the team….but if he had gotten that TD catch early in the game niners had a better chance of winning
After yesterday’s game I hope people realize what exactly Walker brings to the Niners offense. He is an absolute monster in the blocking game. Letting him go will be a huge mistake.
I hope after yesterday’s game everyone realizes how important Delaine is to this offense. He is an absolute monster in the blocking game. PFF had him graded out as the 2nd best blocking te this year. To let him go would be absolutely foolish
It said my first comment failed. Wrote new one. Sorry
A- for the offensive line is way too generous. On the roughing the kicker call, we could have and should have gone for it. On a fourth and 2 with one the most vanted front lines to extend the game and take time away from the clock we go for points instead of a first down. We convert on that 4′th down and it would have sucked the oxygen out of the ravens
On offense, I think we need to keep Delanie and upgrade the receiver position.
The best WR taken in the draft this year was taken in the supplemental draft after having his college career at Baylor cut short due to disciplinary issues.
hey diddle, diddle…all the Niners had to do was run Gore up the middle.
How do you forgot that especially after he’s the guy that rips off the big run to set you up for the win in the first place. Gore has a heart of a lion and wouldn’t of been denied that touchdown. What was the strength of this team?….our offensive line…yet we pass the ball three times from the five?
Harbaugh lost this game with those four last pathetic play calls. A fade route on 4th down?…dumb. Harbaughs to emotional and looses all irrationality when it’s needed most. The 49ers win their sixth superbowl if they would of given it to Gore…but for some reason at the most critical moment they forgot to go to the heart and soul of this team and it cost them everything.
Yeah i was really hoping they would run the ball there and just pound it in. The Ravens did a good job against the pistol.
Do the Niners attempt to extend crab this offseason or wait?
Just curious, I would of thought the niners would of attacked the edges with the run game. The ravens linebackers are not that fast. Or am I wrong for thinking this could work?
We’ll never know. But it makes sense to me; I think a lot of people here would have liked to see a bunch more running!
As for the Offensive grade, once upon a time, I was a college prof. If one of my students hadn’t shown up for the first half of the course, as our offense didn’t show up in yesterday’s first half, the highest grade I could give would be Incomplete.
Grant – I’d like to see someone ask Harbaugh and Baalke if there will be any changes in who ranks wide receivers in the draft. Don’t know if it’s all Morton’s fault, but they have laid an egg the last two years, and I’m hoping they’ll get someone involved that has a better eye for talent.
Ugh this auto refresh is enough to make me pull out my teeth. Anyway… What’s with this “pick on Grant day” stuff?
Seems to me we can all disagree without being disagreeable. On topo of that, we’re guests here, guys.
On Jenkins, it seems to me we don’t draft receivers well so far.Johnson didn’t even make it out of camp. we need receivers, were still weak in this area.
*On top of…
Phone and refresh are both killing me!
Hey Grant, here’s a question for you. I may have missed this but did we ever get to the bottom of why Brandon Jacobs was cut? Was there a straw that broke the camel’s back or…?
I assume it was partly injury but it seemed like he was dumped without much fanfare. (No pun intended.) There must have been something going on that someone didn’t like. Also timed so he couldn’t rejoin the Giants.
Just wondering if there was ever a smoking gun there.
Ooops never mind, I went out and found it. I missed it I guess.
This back and forth with Grant is hilarious! Jenkins is Rashaun Woods pt. 2
“Jenkins is Rashaun Woods pt. 2″
Oh no, please don’t say that…
We really need to spend draft picks on DL and pass rush depth… or BPA (a la L. James). I would hate to draft high or sign a WR big name this year.
