Friday afternoon on ESPN Radio, NFL Scout Matt Williamson and former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker broke down the matchup between the 49ers’ pistol zone-read running attack and the Ravens’ run defense. Here is their breakdown. Before you get into the text, I am not saying they’re correct. It makes for intriguing reading.
WILLIAMSON: “I think the running game eventually wins this game for the 49ers, but the Ravens’ defense is going to be more challenging than Green Bay, who looked like they never saw the option and just let Kaepernick run wild down the sidelines, or Atlanta that overcompensated and totally took away the outside and just left gaping holes up the middle for Frank Gore, who is playing great. That’s a huge component of this game.”
TUCKER: “Everybody out there says, ‘I just think the 49ers’ defense is better.’ Over the course of the year of course they are, but all I really care about is the last two games. You look at the last two games – the Ravens only gave up 21 offensive points to Peyton Manning and a Denver offense that had been electric on the road. Trindon Holliday took two to the house, and maybe Peyton would have scored another one, but still. The defense played exceptionally well in that game.
“Then they gave up 13 points to the Patriots, a team that scored 100 points more than any other team in the league, a team that torched the Texans for 41 and could have scored more. The Ravens gave up 13.
“Now they get two weeks to prepare for a team that, I believe, has had a lot of their success offensively in the postseason because of the fact that teams don’t have a great plan for the zone read. Green Bay had no plan whatsoever. I thought that was an absolute travesty and an embarrassment, and I think Dom Capers should be fired for that. And I never, ever say that. I’ve never seen a team have less of a plan for something than they did.
“Atlanta had a plan, and it worked on some level. The plan was to not let Kaepernick run. I’ve got to think after two weeks, the Ravens will have a better plan. They’ll have done all their research, talked to all the college coaches.
“I would have the defensive end come crashing down the line and take the dive back – the running back – every time, and then have a linebacker scrape over the top, or a late filling safety, like Bernard Pollard, take the quarterback.
“What I’m not going to do is let Frank Gore just gash me for nine yards every play. I’d rather have somebody scrape over the top and take some big time shots at that quarterback.
“The other thing I think you should consider is when Kaepernick puts the football into the stomach of the running back, I think you should bring the corners (on a blitz) and then have the safeties cover for them, because that takes some time. The pistol stuff, the zone read stuff, it’s a pretty long fake and I suggest bringing the corners as soon as they see that read-run.
“What’s the worst case scenario? The worst case scenario is it’s actually a pass, but then by the time Kaepernick raises up to pass, the safeties will be covering those receivers, and whatever side Kaepernick faces open to, you’ve got a corner screaming off the edge unblocked.
“I really envision the Baltimore Ravens having a pretty good plan. I have trust and faith in the defensive plan of the Ravens. I think the Niners are going to have to throw the ball.”

Simplistic take by Tucker. He should’ve taken some notes from Dilfer who has actually taken the time to study the offense. If the Ravens sell out the way Tucker is advising, the the Niners will torch them in the passing game.
Niners win by at least a TD tomorrow. Enjoy the moment everybody.
Use ‘ol Richie Gannons favorite pattern the ‘slug o’ in that situation and Crabs could have 3 or more scores on the night.
Rocket
I agree. Tucker apparently hasn’t watched tape. He says, i think the Niners are going to have to throw the ball.. Guess what happens when they do? The D gets torched. Niners win big tomorrow.
The corner blitz was also mentioned by Pat Kirwan yesterday afternoon on Sirius. The thing is the Niners don’t just run the pistol exclusively. It’s just one of many formations they can beat you with.
Damn right Sean,
All this time spent talking about the pistol/zone read takes away from studying the rest of the 49er offense. I hope B-more forces Kap to pass. Big plays all day! Remember Harbaugh and G-Ro like to keep “an ace in the hole” so it’s the wrinkle, player, or play they haven’t seen that’ll be the one that get’s em.
Ross Tucker has sold the 49ers short all season. Didn’t expect anything different this time.
So did Grant…
The game should come down to which front 7 gets more pressure on the qb.
Sean – Concur.
hold on – isnt the point that the Qb reads the d-end? so in this case Kaep keeps it every time, forcing the “scraping” LB – who is being blocked, by the way – and the “late filling safety” – who’s coming from 10-20 yards away to chase Kaep. this is like saying I’m going to solve the energy crisis by getting fusion to work in cold water – easy to say, hard to do.
Lame reasoning. He forgot to mention our FB that runs free to block those unexpected defenders. That’s the difference. Plus, throw in a couple of wham plays and 5 WR formations. How do they cover that. I’m looking forward to some screen passes out of the pistol too. Haven’t seen that yet, nor the FB dive.
Yup. Washington runs the option without the extra blocker. Miller could seal off the blitzer very well.
I would almost feel sorry for a blitzing cornerback, bouncing off the 230 lbs Kaepernick.
fesnyc/ big niner – Good posts, we have some smart bloggers in here.
Anyone going for the Papa John’s free pizza? What’s the catch, sign up and then get spam emails?
Not sure but you can always create a new email and then forget about it….lol I’m not a fan of papa johns.
Lest ye not forget to request a side of Peyton Forehead Grease for dipping …
“…but then by the time Kaepernick raises up to pass, the safeties will be covering those receivers…”
which means linebackers have to cove Davis or Walker. Yippeee!!!
There are some runs that might beat the plan too. I like the counter. Does not have to be the classic “Riggo” counter-tre. Just a play where Gore/Hunter take a quick step in one direction, then explode into the opposite gap or bounce it outside. The counter run is misdirection, but not the slow developing kind (like screens and reverses) where defenders shooting the gap can explode the play.
The counter is great for Gore, considering he’s a great jump/cutter/misdirection/low gravity beast!!
I’m antsy. Can’t wait for the game to begin. I’m fired up for our defense, running game and elite QB to put a stamp on this game. Proud of this coaching staff for the decisions they made and the adjustments they’ve made. I’ve never ever ever seen a college coach come in and be so innovative. Who can possibly have it better than us?
no body!!
Grant, was Luke still not worthy of a top ten pick?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/02/luke-kuechly-earns-defensive-rookie-of-the-year-honors/
Grant Cohn says:
March 25, 2012 at 9:06 am
I’m sorry, 4.58 is still slow. There’s no way he can over the whole field or a quick tight end. I could beat him in a race right now.
Well, after making more tackles then any other defender in the league I guess 4.58 is fast enough?
Haha, he was my pick for DROY. He lead the league in tackles and didn’t even play MLB until his fifth game.
I just wanted to poke Grant a bit on this one. We really differed on whether he was worthy of a top 10 pick.
For the time being the jury is still out on Fleener and Blackmon, two other picks that we disagreed upon their actual value to the NFL. Fleener is but a shadow of what Grant suggested he’d be in his first year and Blackmon was proving Grant correct until they got a better QB under center and then we started to see his true potential.
Does this bode well for AJ Jenkins? (OK, wishful thinking.)
The fact that my 70lb 9 year old has more muscle on him then AJ Jenkins doesn’t bode well for him.
24 hours from rioting in the streets. Fun.
Don’t tell Darren that.
No way Baltimore is winning.
I bet the Ravens will try what Atlanta did, but with more success. They almost have to try to funnel all runs towards Lewis because he is both very effective and very, very slow. I think that is one weakness, if not THE weakness in the Baltimore defense the Niners will attack. Imagine Lewis trying to cover Davis!!!
Niners have to accept that it is gonna hurt in the first quarter. Unlike the Vikings or Rams loses, this time they need to take the Raven’s best shot and then drop the hammer. As long as they don’t get spooked they should win handily.
One caveat is if Justin smith goes down. Watching the previous SB appearances on NFL Network, I can say for sure that those mythical teams played some goofy ball at times and Joe threw some off-target passes. But when the money was on the bar, those teams came through. Sure hope the newest iteration can do the same… Gambarre-yo!
Domo arigato
I expect Flacco to unload on the 49er secondary. As much as the 49ers will want to stop it, it will happen. Ray Rice will have huge running lanes because of this. The Ravens relentless offense will shock the 49ers. I am a 49ers fan, but that’s just how I see it happening. Ray Lewis will be a tiny part. Kaepernick will do his best to keep up and maybe make it feel closer than it is by the 4th quarter, but the game will be over by the middle of the 3rd quarter. 49ers will blame it on nerves. Ravens will just be the better team tomorrow. They are this years Giants. 49ers 5-1. Sucks to say it.
We’ll get a pick or two.
You are such a downer Josh. Fortunately you are almost always wrong…
If the Ravens do what Ross describes then Kaepernick and Crabtree will destroy them. Crash the ends and/or bringing the corner backs will leave Crabs wide open on slants all freaking day and he”ll eventually turn one or more of them into a TD.
Personally I can’t stand Ross Tucker. He seems like he argues to argue and will commonly intentionally take the point opposite of the popular side just to sound like he’s different. He’s made some of the most ridiculous comments and observations about players and coaches over the few times that I’ve heard him that I simply can’t take anything he says seriously.
Yep, corner routes all night. If it was as easy as what these two knuckle heads suggest, it would have been stopped by now.
I listen to the Football Today podcast, and Tucker is a tool. Matt Williamson was the guy that was interesting to listen to, but he is rarely on the podcast anymore. When I heard him devise his plan, I laughed. Sando seemed amused as well. He told Tucker that he thought people didn’t quite realize how good CK was yet. Basically, it’s easier said than done.
It’s ok if the niners are forced to pass. Crabs, Davis, Walker will have a banner day. 9 in the box is a joke.
Part of why the Falcons and Packers both failed in stopping the pistol is that they didn’t mix things up. The Niners knew what the defenses were going to be running so it was easy to take advantage of. So, what the Ravens need to do is try and confuse Kaep by sometimes having the DE key on Gore like Tucker says, and sometimes have the DE contain Kaep. Do the same thing every time and the Ravens won’t have a chance.
Shall we initiate a parlance on the Cris Carter – Michael Crabtree comparisons yet?
Canton anybody … ?
Great comparison of the 49ers to the Ravens and the rest of the NFL:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1496141-the-complete-guide-to-the-san-francisco-49ers-in-super-bowl-xlvii?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=cnn-br-bin&hpt=hp_bn18
Another controversy ?
The Joe sez the ’89 Niners would beat this year’s squad ..
Here
Ok guys .. fact or fiction ?
Fact.
They 89 team should be able to beat most of the teams today because there was no salary cap. Comparing the two eras is pointless. I feel very confident that Steve Young would have won at least two Super Bowls if he wasn’t on teams strapped by the cap. The one year they loaded the roster, they won it (94).
You’re forgetting Young’s choke factor.
There is no choke factor. The one season that Young had a team equal to Montana’s great teams, they won it all. People put their blinders on and ignore the fact that Montana never played on the Niners with a salary cap. The 80′s Niners and Debartolo are the reason the salary cap was implemented. The 87 Niners are one of the best Niner teams in my opinion, and they lost to the Vikings in the playoffs. They were favored to destroy the Vikings and win the Super Bowl. Would you consider that a choke? I love Montana, but you don’t have to take shots at Young to prove a point, especially when Young always played with salary cap strapped Niner teams.
I’d argue that there are few teams in the history of the sport that could have beaten our ’89 or ’92 squad.
sorry mean ’94
They were loaded. I think one of the best Niner teams of all time was 87′, but they choked in the playoffs against the Vikings. That was a brutal, shocking loss. That team was dominant.
That ’94 squad still took quite a game to beat Dallas so I’m not sure about how dominant they were. We got up early but were desperately hanging on in the 2nd half.
Back then, the Niners and Cowboys facing each other was the Super Bowl. They beat Dallas twice that year. That was a great team.
His premise was that few teams in the history of the sport would have beaten that team. I’m not sure about that.
Also, both victories against Dallas were at home and the first one in the regular season was even closer than the Championship game. They could have lost either game. To me, if you’re going to called that dominant all-time, you should at least dominate teams in the same year.
I think one or two previous 49ers teams were better.
They beat the two time defending champion twice that season. Dallas and the Niners were the best two teams in football, bar none. Dallas would win the Super Bowl the following year for their third championship in four years. They were a dynasty and the Niners beat them twice in one year. That is dominating. I’m not saying the 94′ team was the greatest team ever, but they were awesome.
Who cares, we won those games and we will win tonight!!
It’s a fact. Compare the two teams and it’s really no contest.
wow, tough call. hard to argue with Montana to Rice, but there’s likely a significant average size/weight difference. back then, 300 pound linemen were just starting to be routine, but now of course we’re clearly in the 300-350 range. would be great to see it tho, in a Field of Dreams kinda way
How many hours til kickoff? Go Niners!
Prime,
Too many. I’m going to wake up ready to start some sh$%. Even though I remember the last Super Bowl team like it was yesterday, it’s been too long.
18 years ago but another SB puts this franchise in the conversation of best ever. Add that it’s a young team with great coaches, we might be looking at a dynasty? I know that’s bold but you never know. We have to win tomorrow night!
Everything is set up for this team to be very good for an extended period of time. The future starts tomorrow.
Prime ..
+1 !!!
The table is set. Time to eat Raven.
Great video .. HERE about Kaep’s family ..
Ok… after seeing that … now I’m ready for some football !
(Some Niner football, of course !)
This article pretty well sums up why I think it will be mainly a defensive struggle for both teams. Kaep hasn’t gone up against a strong defense since the Seahawks game. He will definitely be tested in this game.
MW, and the Ravens have not faced a QB like CK. Roman will have a unique game plan and they will exploit the over aggressiveness of their defense.
One thing no one is really talking about is how Flacco will do against our defense. He will get exposed as the average QB he is tomorrow night.
True Prime, but Kaep hasn’t faced a safety like Reed. That guy can bait any QB. And don’t forget that the Ravens are playing th no respect card. No team is more dangerous than that. That said, I believe Kaeptain America and the rest of the Niners will do just fine. And since I’m still recovering from my surgery, I’ll be able to watch it! Yeah baby!
Off topic again here guys, but have we decided on a nickname for Kaepernick yet? I personally like Kaeptain America but am willing to budge on it.
No nicknames, that’s gay. Montana, Young never had any.
Ummmm, Joe Cool?
Prime,
We might have to sign you up for sensitivity training, lol.
Gay as in flimsy, not stable, awkward type scenario. Not the other one, not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Joe Montana had a name contest and it ended up Big Sky Montana
I thought gay meant happy.
I kinda like Kapernicus or CK. A problem I see with Kaeptan America, just my opinion here, is that I felt offended when the Cowboys used “America’s Team”. It seemed to me so arrogant. There are teams and fans all over America that have their own point of view, their own loyalties. Texas’ Team? No problem for me, although some Houstonians would be unhappy too. So I’d rather not push that button in other fans around the country. That Americas Team stuff is one of the major reasons I don’t like them ‘pokes.
Sorry for the buzz kill!
I think CK fits well.
That’s ok. I just took the idea from the Avengers movie as Captain America is the leader of the greatest team on Earth.
CK it is then. Until we think up a better nickname. lol
MidWest, where have you been lately? There’s been a MWNiner that has joined the blog community but he has let everyone know that he is not you and vice versa.
Surgery and recovery from it Hof. I would returned sooner, but I had to avoid reading and lowering my head for a while. I even had to miss the Niners- Packers game because I couldn’t have anything excite me or raise my blood pressure. I was a mime more or less.
I hope all is well now and you are fully recovered. Look forward to seeing more reads from you.
Hopefully this fixed it Hof. But there’s one good thing that has come of it. Since I’m recovering, I won’t be working but instead watching my team stuff some Ravens on Sunday. As you say: Good Times.
MidWest
Sorry to hear of your troubles and wishing you a speedy recovery. Perhaps a victory Sunday will make you feel better! It will me!
Thanks Tuna. Glad to be back.
Superbowl victory will fix whatever ails ya, MWN. I’ve
Couldn’t agree with you more Adam.
CK7 and Kaepernicus are my two favorites. I take credit for the 2nd one, even though Razor keeps using it :)
Now, now let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Alex still has a ‘C’on his uniform and that still makes him the CAPTAIN.
Checkdown, that is.
Give it a rest and focus on the starting QB, not th backup.
I can focus on whoever I want, dip$hit.
So you focus on the backup QB instead of the starting QB, the team as a whole, and/or the Super Bowl? I guess if it makes sense to you then go for it. Focus on that obsession of Alex Smith. Meanwhile I’ll focus on my Niners in the Super Bowl.
Maybe you should not focus on me. It was a joke. Work on lowering your blood pressure. Relax, loser.
MW, good to have you back and a quick recovery.
Wow. Good comeback. I’ll go write that down so I won’t forget it. It’ll be in the file labelled FOURTH’S ALEX SMITH OBSESSION.
Sweet go write that down and while you’re at it, file it next to that gay a$$ nickname you came up with for Kaepernick.
Thanks Prime.
All I can do is yawn at how dull you are Fourth. Not my fault you’re obsessed with a backup QB whilst the Niners are seeking a sixxth Lombardi Trophy.
Seeing as often as you are responding to my jabs I would say you are obsessed with me. Now I’d hate to send your BP through the roof and send your ass to the hospital again so I’ll quit here and ask you to do the same. Go Niners.
Deal Fourth.
The Ravens are playing for Ray Lewis. Flacco will be playing for the respect he deserves. 49ers aren’t playing for anyone right now. It’s going to take a Super Bowl loss for this team to really kick it into gear.
They’re playing for a city Josh. This also could be the last ride of Moss, Gore, and Cowboy. What better way to retire from the game than going out on top.
The forty Niners aren’t playing for anyone right now
Is it possible you could know so little about this team? Stunning.
Josh, they’re playing for all of us, themselves and trophy number six.
You must have missed the blog about Frank Gore and his mom!
Alex Smith through his agent has asked the 49ers for his IMMEDIATE release following the superbowl…….
What say you Smithers now?
I say as a Niners fan focus on the Super Bowl and not afterwards.
Bay, really? You watching the news? I guess you can’t let it go…
got a link, Bay ?
Bay,
Are you now hypnotized by the milky blues? Did you stare into Smith’s eyes for too long? Why do you keep talking about him? The Super Bowl is tomorrow and you are bringing up negative crap, please stop.
Hatergasm.
Classless for thst to come out on SB eve.
Where is the link Bay? The only thing related to what you’re saying is at the end of January. In other words, it’s old news.
Bay,
With all due respect, this is the Superbowl! Waited 18 years to get here.
Let’s call a ‘sieze fire’ on AS for today.
I’m sure that there will be plenty of time to discuss AS after today.
It’s all about the TEAM today!
How do you stop the pistol?
You don’t stop the pistol, you get the f* out of the way. Either that or wear a bullet proof vest cause the bullets will be flying :)
Play of the year probably cost Norv his job.. Good grief, Ray Rice BLEW THE Chargers D off the blocks on that run.
I think blowing a 24 point halftime lead and allowing 35 unanswered points on MNF might have played as big if not a bigger role in is dismissal.
Yeah, total collapse.
Whew… AP took home some awards! Damn.
Best moment of the night was the tongue-in-cheek jib jab between Favre and Rodgers on stage together. And then Peyton’s take on seeing him and Andrew Luck up there someday doing the same thing.
Can’t argue with Peyton. I think Luck will follow in his footsteps, if not break some of his records.
You’re alright man. We want the same thing tomorrow. Go Red.
Right back at ya Fouth.
I knda expected him to. I think the Broncos still had Tebow that they still would have been relavent, especially in the AFC West. Take away Peterson from the Vikings and they would probably have the top pick in the draft instead of the Chiefs.
Whoops, meant to say kinda.
Darren can rest easy now. http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/02/02/police-to-beat-49ers-revelers-to-punch/
Another interesting topic in that article was the Bay Area making a bid for the 2016 or 2017 Super Bowl. Similar to 1984/85, the Niners could play a SB at home.
Disappointed that Wilson didn’t win OROY. It’s tough to argue with Griffin, but Wilson overcome being a third round pick, winning the starting job over a FA QB brought in from GB, and leading all rookie QBs in touchdowns.
I certainly hope not, but Wilson might be better than Kaepernick. He’s that good. I think he’s better than RG3.
Scary what the divisional rivalry will look like for years to come.
I agree 100% Fourth. I liken Wilson to Brees, a general on the field.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the NFC West is the toughest division for the next few years. Each team is built on a solid defense.
On the plus side, Wilson got an Emmy for his acting in the TV show “Little People, Big World”.
Lol MSC.
It’s a strange thing. I’m not feeling nervous bout this game the same way I didn’t feel nervous about the Chargers and Broncos Super Blowouts. Maybe we’ll win this running away.
We’re clearly the far more talented team. But that doesn’t always matter in one game. The Ravens are playing their best ball in the playoffs.
But I still think we win by 2 scores.
I like your prediction better than mine. I have the Niners winning a defensive battle in OT 10-7.
Good call Mid West…I’ve got it at 20-17 9ers
Everyone will be playing tomorrow, but its crazy to see so many key 49ers listed with shoulder injuries right now.
It’s past 1:30 where I’m at, so I’ll sign off until tomorrow. Thanks for the well wishes everybody and GO NINERS!
It’s 2:05 where I’m at (WC). So there I beat you. Night everyone tomorrow :
History will be kind to us for we intend to write it. – Jim Harbaugh
Any Niner Brotherhood up yet? I can’t sleep. Who’s got it better then us ?
What’s the line on how many timed somebody says ” You got Mossed”?
(times) oops
12 more hours. Lets Go 49ers.
think the 49ers will be forced to pass. Depends if Kaepernick cracks. http://robmilne.blog.com/2013/02/03/super-bowl-xlvii-preview/
Good Morning Faithful! SUPER SUNDAY!!! GO 9ers!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack and Sean it’s been good bantering with you all…happy SB Sunday to you as well!!
Right back at you, Hof. My stomach is in knots right now. This day is dragging.
Enjoy it, Sean! Have a drink or two, it’ll help. GO NINERS
Soon enough, LSX. The 2 pots of coffee I’ve had may be working against me. I’ve been awake and watching pregame gibberish for over 6 hours already.
Where’s 449er Girl??? She should be enjoying this moment…..
She’s been around and dropping some good one liners. She aint going to miss the big dance!
G’morning all. The Niners flag is flying out front before the coffee is made. UH-RAH! Its going to be a long wait for me to kickoff.
hopefully, she’ll be here later, Frank …
I’m getting stoked ! …
Counting down the hours ’till kickoff !
More than corner blitz, the Ravens are likely to defend the pistol the way they tried it against the Skins — attack the hand-off with the unblocked defender, most likely Paul Kruger. NFL Matchup had a good breakdown on it.
This will be a close game. Niners win 27-20.
The game isn’t for another 7 hours and I already need a valium.
Apollo 15 you have ignition.
Every Super Bowl I get a flashback vision of why I started drinkin pepsi in 92. ………http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STq9Ed482l8
Go Red and Gold!!…. One for the other hand!!
Crabs ..
With Kaep, I think we have a good chance to decorate
the other hand !
(can you say .. “dynasty” ?)
MW – If Kap kisses bicep we got this……. 2 kisses is nail in coffin.
Kiss of death.
CK is the complete package, but the biceps thing is tebow-esque and showy. He should just be the best by example a la JM, PM, and TB.
If their talking sh!t to him like the Packers were, then they deserve the showboating kiss of death imo.
Good Morning all!!
Are you ready for some SB football? It’s time to get #6 put into the trophy case at 4949…good times. Let’s go!!
Ok, so the anxiety is sinking in…..need to breathe
You can breath tomorrow after hoisting #6…ha!
*breathe*
Hof Dude-Ready to Rock!
Top, where have you been!!! It’s been too long for a regular…good to see your reads.
Go 9ers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hof -the QB bickering got a bit much for me along with some truly meanhearted stuff -just not my thing so thought I’d hang back awhile.I read the posts regularly.Love our team ,been a long time coming-thankful for this day GO NINERS.( TEAM TEAM TEAM!)Semper Fidelis!
Top, well said!!
I just finished polishing up the big screen, got every spect of dust off of it and its ready for my viewing pleasure!
Lets go Niners!
Prime, thanks for the reminder. You have to be careful what you use on the screen though. I’ve got to start my two meat beer chili pretty soon since it takes 4+ hours to cook.
Get it done Hof and enjoy the game. It’s been a difficult, exciting, and strange year so tonight it will all be worth it seeing Harbaugh, Jim that is, showered in Gatorade!
I have to get my cigar. I started that tradition with the second Niners superbowl. I almost forgot about it.it’s been so long.
Adam the blog writer beast (along with Rocket) is in the house!!
Cigar? Very Red Auerbach-esque? I like it as long as it’s not a tiparillo! lol
I like your chili idea. Getting ready to head upto the market for some food… Kinda thinking of bbq hot dogs with some different kind of toppings. Hey have you tried Drew Bledsoe’s wine?
Adam, what cigar will you be smoking today?
Adam, no I haven’t had DB’s wine yet. I’ve had LBird’s when he partnered with MCosentino.
I’m thinking a Fuente. I’m headed out in a few to see what I can find. $7-$10 will be fine. I don’t smoke ‘em all that often.
Grant, Bob and Phil you are officially on notice. It’s nearly 10am on Game Day and we haven’t heard a peep from any of you guys. Did you run out of things to talk about?
Grant needs to start a live blog at 10am…he has 5 minutes to get it going!
I’m not sure about Bob and Phil but we know Grant doesn’t roll out of bed until noon. :-)
Maybe they were up partying all night and are still sawing wood.
As for sub 70lb Jenkins, he getting a “a 10th of a gram bigger every day.”
Saw both Bob and Phil leaving Pat O’brians at 3am with two ladies of the evening on each arm. I would not expect to hear from them for another hour or so.
That was mean B2W. But so very funny.
My man Clem is in the HOUSE. Good SB Mornin’ to you!!
Happy Super Bowl Sunday Hof!
It’s going to be a long 4.5 hours… I’m already pacing the house.
I’m making chili which will kill some time plus 4 hours to cook. And of course start drinking early…
Good Morning Grant,
Who will be bring the live blog from NO and what time will it begin?
Thanks
*Glad to hear that your Mom is doing fine.

Lets get the party started, GO NINERS!!!!!!!! Been looking forward to this day for nearly two decades
I feel like I’m playing….trying to pass time. nervous, anxious, excited..go niners
4 more hours! “Yippie-Ki-yay” ………owwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!
Crab, how did the team do yesterday? Lookin good?
Time for some SB tunes???!!!! It’s been great the last 4 years eh? Time to win this thing!!! Good times.
Hofe – Thanks for asking. After spending 2 hours with me, those kids are tame now. :)….
.I’m pumpin some loud Van Halen now!
Quest for 6 baby!! Owwww!! Jimi’s coming on after VH.
It’s so funny how the fans are feeling the same anxiety as the players. Trying to get everything ready. Everything in the right place, at the right time. Looking at the clock. Can’t wait!
The best pre-SB commercial I think is the one where this guy shows up at his former apartment to watch the 9er games, caus he doesn’t want to jinx it. Puts everything in the right place, except it’s not his apt anymore!
That’s how i feel. Keep the routine, don’t Jinx it and we’ll celebrate on Market Street!!!
Got you on my fantasy league ‘big niner’ (lol)!
Let’s Gooooooo!!!!!!
LSX is in the HOUSE! Woo Hoooo!!! It’s been way too long for the 9ers to be absent from the big game…let’s go!!!!
Good morning fellow 49ers fans! I’m still trying to shake off the effects of last night’s pre-SB party and get ready for the real party in a few hours. It’s been a great season leading up to today for the Faithful; though today it’s finally really hitting me that this is what we’ve all waited for all these years!
It’s great to be a 49er fan today! Go 49ers!
Here’s hoping Ray Lewis trips doing his dorky intro dance !!!
A Grammatica! LOL!
lmfao!!!
So ESPN is running a poll for the winner of the superbowl, most of the country has us winning but can you believe Washington has the Ravens? can you say haters? lol Florida, Alabama, Georgia Louisiana, Maryland, Delaware, New jersey, Wisconsin and Michigan voted against us.
Maryland of course. Delaware is close by.
If its Washington DC (not Washington state), it makes sense for them to go Ravens. The Raven’s stadium is a one hour MARC train ride from Union Station in the capitol. (used to take it)
Surprised Pennsylvania did not go Ravens.
Go Niners in an electoral victory!
Washington state….smh, stupid seachickens
If we survive the first 10 minutes tied or within 4 points, we win this game. Anything better than that and we win hands down.
Smoking some ribs. Kicked back on the patio playing some cards with my kids enjoying sunshine and 70 degrees. Friends coming over around 2 hours before my 9ers play in the Superbowl. The day is perfect. Who’s got it better than us?
Nobody!! Hester wants a fresh start, buh bye Ginn Jr. and hello Devon Hester?
You think Hester has much left and would he be cool with being a third or fourth receiver?
Yes sir, yes sir I do.
Houston, which style BBQ? KC, Memphis, TX?? Ha!!!
Pork spare ribs. Rubbed em down with Emerils rub last night. Using the 3-2-1 method mopping with apple cider vinegar and a mix of a few other things.
Houston, sounds outstanding!
Nice, enjoy
As an aside .. Here’s .. a slideshow of the Gold Rush girls ..
Ok ok .. I know .. I’m reaching for a little distraction .. right ?
Hey MW, good stuff!!
Thanx Hof ..
Glad you enjoyed it …
Here’s an awkward moment between Farve and Rogers ..

Looks like that interview was cut. They must have had more to talk about than that?
Ray Lewis is going to look like a fool today, he will look like he is punch drunk and slow, and Jesus ain’t saving the two time murderer.
get our speedsters in space.
3 hours to go Niner fans!!!!!!!
Got no sleep, can’t sit still, and the clock is slowing down by the hour! Might have to start drinking now, lol!!!
WHO’S GOT IT BETTER THAN US??!!!
NoooooooooooooooooBodyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
NOBODY!!!!!!!!!
Hofer – Pace yourself bro, put the bottle down. Drink non-alcoholic smoothies til gametime. :)
Crab!!!! Haha!! I’ve been too busy cooking my chili to be drinking too much. I will start to drink soon. The neighbors are having a big bash with indoor/outdoor big screens. If it gets too intense during the game I’ll be mainly at my place. lol
The only thing that’s calmed me down a little, was playing madden 13, 49ers vs Ravens and stomping on them.
Nobody!!!!
49erGirl!
The long wait is about to be over. Time to make some more 49ers history!
I’m already hopeing and looking forward to next year’s Superbowl:
49ers vs Steelers
Who the first to get number 7!
*who’s
AES – I hope that happens bro. Pit vs Sf in SB 48 for #7……lets take care of business today first. Come on Akers, make a kick!
Go Niners, its past the crack of noon, time to get game face on.
WHO’S GOT IT BETTER THAN US??!!!
By 7:00 we will know if anybody has it better than us.
Gumbo is simmering -beer is cold…sounds on rotation presently: Hard Work-John Handy(in honor of FG);Compared to What-Les McCann&Eddie Harris ; Foolkiller -Mose Allison.Oh man …
Love that Swiss Movement album from McCann/Harris. Bought it new on vinyl.
Three hours !
Three more hours to kick off, I predict the Niners will win 35-10. This will be like a 15 round heavyweight fight, early rounds to Ravens, Niners figure them out and adjust in the middle rounds and the Niners close with a big (( Knock out)) Who got it better than us. (( NOBODY ))
I hope you’re right
Neal, i love your final score but i hope the game is never in doubt – that we just rip off scores right off the bat and never look back!
we need this game to start – i can’t take another “new” “insight” about Kaep from the national media
I would love a blowout, we have a better team, better coaches and I see a blowout so we don’t need Akers.
I like your altitude, Neal!
Grant/Phil – Time for live SB 47 pre-game blog.
Maybe you guys can clear something up for me: After the deer-antler follies, is it true that if the Niners win, they get to mount Ray Lewis’ head in the locker room?
Hey Grant, is there anyway that the PD can add a SB countdown on here?
Marshall Faulk is predicting Flacco has more rushing yards then CK.
M.Irving is predicting Aldon Smith has 4 sacks and is voted MVP.
Marshall Faulk is on crack if he thinks Fluke-o is going to out rush Kap. Damn, 4 sacks? I could see Aldon getting at least 2 sacks in this game. Who is Irvin picking to win this game? In a interview the other day he said it hurts to see the 49ers in the Super Bowl while the Cowboys continue to struggle. Check it out…..
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/2013/02/moore-rival-49ers-berth-in-super-bowl-has-got-to-gall-cowboys-fans-and-it-may-get-worse.html/
A win over Baltimore on Sunday evening in Super Bowl XLVII would allow the 49ers to break their tie with Dallas and join Pittsburgh with six titles as the league’s most successful franchises.
That’s got to hurt.
“I can remain professional and say no, but why do that?” Cowboys Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin said.
“Absolutely it does.”
When I played, I would get so much adrenaline going it made me nauseous. This would happen hours before the game. I would tighten up physically. The only thing that would get rid of it was that first hit on the kickoff. I have that same feeling right now. This is big time, this is what we as fans have been waiting for, this is the SUPER BOWL! Today we bring home the sixth Lombardi trophy and start a new 49ers legacy. Niners, 31-20. Let’s kick some ass.
Somebody on here made my day the other day with the story about Horseface taunting Joe M a day or so before Niners blew them out of the game.
Who is horseface?
Elway?
Makes sense
Yeah, Elway.
