Super Bowl XLVII 49ers vs. Ravens live blog: Pregame

This is the live blog for the pregame of Super Bowl XLVII. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room in Oakland.

2:02 The 49ers’ inactive players are Scott Tolzien, Trenton Robinson, Cam Johnson, Jewel Hampton, Joe Looney, Tony Jerod-Eddie and Ian Williams.

2:05 WR Chad Hall is active for the second game in a row. Do you think he’ll catch any passes? Do you think he’ll catch more passes than A.J. Jenkins?

2:14 This was the Ravens’ chant before they went on the field for warmups: “Kill ‘em on three. One, two three, kill ‘em!”

2:15 Mike Sando tweets David Akers looked good in warmups, but he was 0-2 on 60-yard field goal attempts.

2:18 Gil Brandt, former VP of Player Personnel for the Dallas Cowboys in the ’90s and current NFL.com analyst, just tweeted this: “Look for the 49ers to air it out today, especially early, similar to the game vs. the Patriots. Practices were crisp this week.”

Brandt is expecting a pass-heavy game plan for the 49ers to start the game. Do you expect the same thing? Do you think that would be a good strategy?

2:20 And then Brandt tweeted this: “I know this goes against my earlier prediction, but don’t be surprised if this expected close game is a blowout in the 49ers’ favor.”

2:25 Dan Marino just said, “You have to throw the ball at least 40 times to win the Super Bowl.”

2:32 Pro Football Talk just tweeted, “The Ravens fans are definitely louder than the 49ers fans.”

2:38 Shannon Sharpe just said the 49ers are the most physically fit and imposing team he’s seen his life.

2:40 When the 49ers played the Ravens on Thanksgiving last season, Vernon Davis caught four passes for 38 yards. Delanie Walker did not catch any passes.

2:50 Who do you think will be the Super Bowl MVP?

3:05 Crowd noise could be a factor for the 49ers’ offense. There are multiple reports saying the Ravens fans are louder and out-numner the 49ers fans in the Superdome.

3:07 Peter King estimates Ravens fans out-number 49ers fans in the Superdome 2 to 1.

nothing would make me happier than a couple of long Niner TD passes to start this game off.

I am so damn ready for some football. Go Niners!

  5. Jack Hammer says:

“2:25 Dan Marino just said, “You have to throw the ball at least 40 times to win the Super Bowl.” Is that how you did it Danny? Oh wait, that’s right you were pouting like a 3 year old by the 4th quarter of your 1 Super Bowl appearance.

  6. DClark says:

Jeez Grant you had me worried, thought i’d be all on my own watching the game! You don’t know how much i look forward to these live blogs.

Anyway, i think were looking at a big game for Vernon, 150+ yards and 2tds, Attack the defences weaknesses, especially when it plays to your own strengths!

All the best to everyone watching tonight, i’ve spent the last twelve and a bit hours here watching the pre game guff, and I am soooo ready for some football!!!

    NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Hov says:

Super bowl sundayyyyyyy let’s go 9ers everyday allday

  8. Jack Hammer says:

To my fellow 49er Faithful, 18 years of waiting will finally come to an end in less than an hour. I hope you all thoroughly enjoy the game.

A big thanks to all of you and Grant for making this long season fly by. Go 9ers!!!

  9. michael says:

Come on enough talking lets do this. I cant wait to enjoy the celebration with all of you my 49er faithful. Go 49ers

  10. MidWestNiner says:

Just about game time! My bold prediction for this game is that A.J. Jenkins will be the leading receiver for the Niners.

    • fesnyc says:

was wondering if he would get his first reception in a Super Bowl – probably make him a trivia answer for many years!

    • Brotha Tuna says:

      @MidWest
I hope your BP is lower than mine!

      • MidWestNiner says:

Trust me. I will keep it under control. If I don’t, my family and friends have told me that they’ll switch channels on me. Ain’t no way that happening!

  11. NinerNation says:

I woke up surprisingly calm this morning with only 4 hours of sleep, but as we inch closer to game time i’m getting nervous as hell! I can only imagine what the players must feel right now. We got this, Go Niners!

  12. est_29Jan95 says:

I have had butterflies…I cant wait til kickoff…GO NINERS!!!!!

  13. Coffee's for closers says:

If the Ravens win then by default even if Flacco throws 8 TD’s they’ll still give the MVP to the murderer.

  14. Scooter_McG says:

Frank Gore for MVP – reckon he’ll have a good game running but will also be a surprise factor in the passing game.

  15. Coffee's for closers says:

Brandt’s prediction worries me. I give him all the respect in the world but he is sooooo out of touch with the players in the modern game that it’s kind of sad now just how wrong he usually is.

  16. Nick says:

    Niners 34
    Ravens 17

    Go Niners.

  17. Crab15 says:

How bout some “Wam” plays Roman? ….”Wam bam thank you mam”

  18. MidWestNiner says:

BOOOOO!!!! To the Ravens that is.

  19. NinerNation says:

I’m not picking a score (don’t wanna jinx them) but i think the 49ers will win. Gore gets MVP scores 2 TDs and becomes the 1st 49er ever to rush for 100 yards in a Super Bowl. Go Kap Go Niners!

  20. MidWestNiner says:

    Get that sixth Lombardi Niners!

  21. NinerNation says:

49ers in the Super Bowl with “California Love” as the intro! Love it!!

I can’t believe we are here!

  22. MontanaMan16 says:

Watching the game in a casino here in Nevada! Dominated by 9er fans. I’ll keep checking in! Go niners!

  23. MidWestNiner says:

Poor Witten. This is the closest he’ll ever get to participating in a Super Bowl.

  24. Nick says:

What’s this BS? Get to the National Anthem and start the game.

  25. Crab15 says:

    Pick heads Ray Ray!

  26. 49er42 says:

    Wow Sandy Hook. Chorus.

  27. msclemons67 says:

I’m going to reach through the TV screen, choke Alicia Keyes and yell “hurry up!!! Agggh!”

  28. NinerNation says:

Alicia Keys lookin good sitting on that piano. :)

  29. MidWestNiner says:

Finally time for the coin toss.

  30. shawnrhod says:

    Game time!

  31. Hoferfan67 says:

Grant, good SB day to you!
