Free Agency starts Tuesday at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. To get you greased up for the signings, Rotoworld’s Evan Silva made a list of the top 100 free agents, and guessed where each one would sign. To read Silva’s list, click here.
These are the predictions you’ll find most interesting:
5. FS Dashon Goldson (Silva ranks Goldson as the fifth-best free agent available): Eagles, five years, $40.5 million.
15. DT Desmond Bryant: Seahawks, five years, $20 million.
21. DE John Abraham: Seahawks, two years, $12 million.
23. WR Danny Amendola: Eagles, three years, $18.5 million.
29. DE Dwight Freeney: Broncos, two years, $10 million.
33. FS Louis Delmas: Rams, three years, $15 million.
51. DT Richard Seymour: Packers, three years, $7.5 million.
57. TE James Casey: 49ers, five years, $15 million.
62. SS Charles Woodson: Broncos, one year, $4 million.
72. FS Chris Clemons: Cardinals, five years, $17.5 million.
76. WR Julian Edelman: Chiefs, three years, $6 million.
85. DT Ricky Jean Francois: Eagles, three years, $12 million.
89. WR Brandon Gibson: Browns, four years, $16 million.

‘To get you greased up’ ? Bad idea to get greased up, you might slide off of a barstool.
Seymore a three year deal? No way. And if Niners elect to let Delaine walk (which will be a horrible loss) they will not spend millions in FA to replace him. They’ll draft someone
I agree. In this scenario, Silva has the Dolphins overpaying for Walker.
Travis Kelce from Cincinnati could be the TE the 49ers draft.
If he’s right and say, ..oh …let’s say 95%… of these predictions does he have to go to Emperor Roger Goodell Jail? …or is that the player’s agents? or the players? …Certainly not the owners. But ferrr sherrr… somebody’s goin’ to jail. (Maybe you, Grant, for the reprint.)
Who the frig is James Casey, I had to go look him up.
Hasn’t started 16 games yet and had his most productive season last year. Here is a scouting report from his draft year:
“Strengths: Casey is very reminiscent to Redskins tight end/h-back Chris Cooley. He has excellent athleticism for the position and showed the ability to make difficult catches look easy. Good, but not great, speed for the position. Showed the ability to get good yards after the catch.
Weaknesses: Only played two years of competitive college football after playing baseball. For a tight end, Casey is lacking in bulk and strength. This limits his ability as an in-line blocker. Sort of a man without a position. Needs to become more explosive in his cuts to make his route running better. ”
http://www.sbnation.com/2009/4/11/830953/scouting-report-james-casey
I’m not seeing anything that suggests he is a replacement for Walker as a blocker but he seems pretty athletic with 330 yards off 34 catches last year.
Same here, I haven’t the faintest idea who he is.
I like Casey. He’s a good player and would be a good fit for the niners. He played fullback and H-back for Houston so he would fit in Walker’s place. The Texans have a really good starting TE in Owen Daniels which is why Casey never cracked the starting lineup. He would have to adjust to a different blocking scheme but he could be good in SF.
James Casey- 3years -15 mil? Niners can do better via draft.
They have someone signing Goldson but do they list who we sign to replace him?
I also don’t see us paying Cribbs 2M a year but who knows.
I’m still thinking Culliver moves to free safety.
Is this something that has been mentioned by the team or is it speculation? I’ve browsed the discussions on it and Im aware he played it in his past I just wonder if this is hypothetical or if there have been rumblings around 4949 that it could occur.
Do you think moving Culliver is better then any of the FA or draft options?
Speculation. I think he’s the best option because he’s already under contract, he’s cheap, he’s young and he has the skills the 49ers are looking for in their next safety, I would think. The Niners need a free safety who has corner skills, can matchup one-on-one and can play single-high and cover a ton of ground.
Culliver has the speed for it. He is very fast. Maybe his coverage will benefit by starting 15 yards back every play. I am however worried about how he would tackle at the position.
I think Culliver played some safety in college but the decision making skills are entirely different for safeties and corners so it’s a leap to assume that he would be able to handle safety duties in the NFL. If he does, that could make sense.
I thought Culliver was a safety in college. I was surprised when they shifted him to corner. He was a ball hawk in college.
I don’t know why you’d go 5 years on James Casey… but he’s very good. And at 6-3, a much better red-zone target than Walker. I don’t understand the love for Delanie. Yes, he could lineup at H back…so what. He had a handful of very good grabs and his YAC was awesome. But that dude can’t be trusted on to catch the freaking ball. At 6-0, 240, he should of been turned into a running back years ago. If we could get Cribbs for 2 million per season it’s a no-brainer. Six million for Abraham? Please do it Seahawks, please do it.
Walker needs to get his eyes checked. Maybe he has bad eyes and not bad hands, and his problem is correctable.
Haha, is he the next Ricky Vaughn Grant?
That’s a reasonable suggestion, and easy enough. It does seem to me that DW makes some hard catches and flubs the routine ones (just my impression). That might suggest something other than eyesight. It still should be correctable. Back in the day my coach had me practice catching a frisbee after practice so that I’d learn to relax my stone hands; make them softer. It also had me catching with my hands instead of basket catching. It helped me a lot. Small details……..
I simply figured he needs more time getting used to the heat that Kaep put’s on the ball but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to get that opportunity.
Walker was dropping Smith’s passes, too. I think contact lenses could solve his problems.
I don’t remember Walker having this problem in past seasons though, has he always had this problem and I’m not remembering it?
That’s why I’m thinking it could be his eyes. He needs a check up and some contacts.
CFC
When he came out of college he was a WR who had pretty good hands if i remember correctly. The knock on him was that because he spent his college career split out wide he would have issues with his hand in the ground and lacked proper leverage in his blocking. I wonder if the years in the weight room and on the blocking sled hardened his hands to the point of being a liability
What we have to remember is Baalkes admission that you can’t pay everybody and definitely can’t overpay anybody. The cap problems arise when good players are paid like great players and imo that is the dilemma the Niners face with Goldson and Walker. Both have been good players and helped the team achieve success, but neither are the best at their respective positions and Walker isn’t even a big part of the Niner passing game, so what value do you put on their contributions?
Goldson is a fearsome tackler and hitter but is not good enough in coverage to command what he’s asking. William Moore just signed for about 6 mill a year and that is probably where Goldson’s value is. If somebody pays him 8 or more, they’ve overpaid for what he will bring them.
Walker is a guy who has invented a role for himself after coming out as a heavy WR. He’s been good the past two years in the way they use him, but he’s not even close to being irreplaceable. Draft a TE like Kelce who will be a better player in the passing game or Toilolo later on who is massive and can develop into a big blocker and Redzone target and you have better options than overpaying Walker imo.
It’s more about concentration than vision.
I’m beginning to accept the fact that Goldson most likely wont be back. I was upset at first and didnt realize why the Niners werent gonna pay him, seeing how he is a top safety and deserves the contract he will get. But money wise we just dont have the money for him. In the years coming up we will have to re sign/extend Crabtree, Kaep, Iupati, and Aldon. Money just isnt there to sign Goldson.
Not to mention that if we make it and by gods good grace actually win the SuperBowl then Mr. Kaep’s agent is going to be asking for a check in the Joe Flacco range which means we’ll be putting close to if not at least $20M a year to just one player and Crabtree needs to get paid the year after that.
The 49ers need to start stuffing cash in a mattress somewhere.
That’s my worry. Baltimore has officially screwed over all other NFL teams by way over paying a QB who isn’t even top 5 in the league. Now if Kaep plays great and gets a SB he will ask to be paid higher than Flacco (which would be deserved IF he wins a SB next year). Niners FO have a lot of work over the next few years.
Adam
Flacco has been very productive since he came in to the league and a downright beast the last two. Even if we win the SB (god willing we will) it won’t be sollely on the shoulders of CK, unlike JF who carried baltimore in the playoffs. So based on that I dont think CK will get more money than him but probably in the same ballpark. In any case it will be an obscene amount of money. At this point im 100% sure that Crab too will not give any hometown discounts and will attempt to collect every last dollar coming his way
Bos9er,
Flacco has been solid but certainly not deserving of being the highest paid QB in the game. He got that because he got hot and won the SB. If they were basing his value on his career numbers he’d be making half of what he is now.
Rocket
I agree with that. What i was saying was that because JF put up epic numbers in his contract year its unlikely that CK would get more money that him based on my predictions that 1) he wont be as responsible for O production as JF was because the 4ers are a running team and 2) he wont have the same leverage because he will still have years on his original rookie contract. But the fact that JF makes more money than brady rogers manning brees is ridiculous
My bad Bos for misunderstanding what you meant.
The question will be just how much Kap asks for considering it will be his first shot at getting the big money deal.
Its all good Rocket
Thats a good question. Kaep will be younger when he goes on the market 26 vs 28 and if the 9ers dont wait till his contract is up to extend him, maybe we will find some savings there. Also to consider, would CK take slightly less money to insure that the FO has enough funds to surround him with talent to compete for the SB every year as opposed to Flacco who broke the bank because he knew that Balt was in a salary dumping /mini rebuild mode
which is why we may need to draft a QB with one of our top picks. CK might be too expensive when we need him.
Goldson has plusses and minuses, just like everyone. His strengths lie in hitting and ball hawking, but not pass coverage. He also has a high salary demand for his position, and like you say, money is tight.
George
The biggest plus for Goldson is that every receiver who meets him is hearing ‘footsteps’ the rest of the game; and you think that Delanie has problems concentrating…
I’m going to miss Goldson. It (was) fun to watch his hard hits, but I think the 9ers are going more for pass coverage type guy back there.
If Walker goes, you have to replace him on special teams coverage, and Cribbs would do that. I am guessing the Casey would take care of the rest. Yes, he doesn’t have the timed speed, but 4.6 speed is nothing to sneeze at plus he is taller. Who knows if SF is even considering him.
“I am guessing that Casey would take care of the rest.”
I going to miss Walker too, but it’s “moneyball” at this point and we probably can’t afford two expensive TEs.
WR Julian Edelman makes more sense for the Niners. I’d rather see the team pay a guy who was able to replace Wes Welker in the Patriots two-receiver sets and may just be on the cusp of breaking out than a guy like Cribbs who has the stats worthy of a #4 WR. Oh yeah, and Edelman has fumbled the ball only two times and both were on rushing attempts. If Cribbs and Edelman come at the same price, then the younger WR(Edelman by three years) is the better option.
Getting hung up on Cribbs’ stats is like getting hung up on Alex Smith’s 07-09 stats. The Browns are the worst.
He’s closer to thirty than Edelman is Grant. There is a better chance of having more years of production out of him than Cribbs. We also have a KR in LaMichael James which is Cribbs’ strength. However, Cribbs has accrued 2,154 yards as a PR(the Niners’ need) in eight years while Edelman has accrued 943 yards in just four years. If you find the average of both, then Cribbs is ahead of Edelman by 33.5 yards a year in the PR category. I’d expect more of a gap from Cribbs than that.
I’m not knocking Edelman. I like Cribbs because he’s bigger and cheaper.
I’ll give you the size Grant, but if Evan Silva is close to the price for both, then they will cost the same. I know that it is an estimation, but if they both do indeed end up being worth the same amount then Edelman is the better deal. The Niners can get a big bodied WR like DeAndre Hopkins or Aaron Dobson in the draft.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12649/julian-edelman
How about signing them both? They need to upgrade both positions, and Cribbs’ coaches may have overlooked him as a receiver. He is 6’1″, 215, can catch, is dangerous in the open field, and plays exceptionally fast.
In the new NFL it is set up so that if your team is consistantly good, you can’t pay everybody. Might as well get used to it. Try and keep your front seven by letting go of your Pro bowl Safetys this year and next. Re-tool this year through the draft and hope you can coach’em up real quick.
There is no way we pay 3 mil a year to a backup te, if we pay that much for a second te, it will be a fasano type of player…….which we won’t.
I see the niners paying Abraham 4-5 mil for 2 years and cribbs close to 2 mil per year. If the niners take a cb in free agency, culliver will stay at cb. Also, whitner may be gone next year and so will Rogers so we will need culliver at cb.
What do you think?
i rather draft players like jonathan cyprien on 1st or 2nd round and take a TE like levine toilolo or jake stoneburner in 4th round than spend that money on free agents. niners need to extend crabtree, aldon and kaepernick with long term deals.
Generally speaking, the Niners do not start first-year players. If the players you mention are any good, they would likely play part-time.
Grant,
What do you think about Chris Harper of Kansas State as an eventual replacement for Walker? Like Walker, he is a college receiver that is best suited to play tight end/H back in the pros. He has a very solid build with the frame to add some bulk, and he would be a mismatch against linebackers and most safeties in the league. He is my late round sleeper pick as a developmental prospect that could eventually pay big dividends.
From NFL.com
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Size/speed combination is impressive. Cornerbacks trying to press him at the line see his quickness and pure acceleration down the sideline. On crosses, sells the outside routes before planting his foot to get inside position. Harper uses his size to his advantage, often shielding defenders. He also possesses a very strong set of hands that he uses to out-muscle smaller defensive backs. Very adept at catching the ball off of his frame. He is also very tough to bring down with the ball in his hands.
WEAKNESSES Could finish plays more consistently, as he will stand around a bit while his quarterback is trying to scramble and doesn’t always sustain his blocks despite his aggressiveness. A bit stiff in the hips. Fought an ankle injury in 2011. Hasn’t been immensely productive.
NFL COMPARISON Early Doucet
BOTTOM LINE It took Harper a couple of seasons, and a transfer from Oregon back to his home state, to embrace a position switch from quarterback to receiver. While Harper isn’t extremely tall, he has a muscular frame, particular in his lower half. This along with his speed makes him a tough cover, and an even tougher player to bring down with the ball in his hands. He will likely be selected in the third or fourth round.

Schefter just tweeted the Seahawks are in the lead to trade for Percy Harvin. Oh boy. The Ninets better find a new slot corner quick.
Or bid up his price.
We might risk that they would accept our offer. No thank you.
Pac-Man
Hopefully the noise at Century Link Field will cause his migraines to reappear.
They appear Monday -Saturday every week during the season, it’s his i don’t want to practice injury and one of the main reasons I don’t want the guy. Zero character individual.
late 3rd round, enter the Honey Badger
$4 million a year for RJF?!?! That’s quite the pay raise from his 615k salary last year, this guy must really be high on RJF, or just high.
No way the Eagles nab Amendola, Goldson and RFJ.
Did you not pay attention to their “Dream Team” spending spree a couple of years ago? They currently have almost $35 million in cap space.
And potentially more if they release Nnamdi.
MM is reporting that we’re interested in Tynes.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/49ers-believed-be-interested-tynes
Blah.
Are the 9ers looking at cribbs as a WR and special teams player? Or are they looking at him primarily as a special teams player? If its primarily as a ST player i would rather fill from within, the PR spot could be filled by Williams, James or Jenkins and we could save a couple million a yr. If they are looking at him as a WR i just do’nt see it.
I’d guess given his history he’d be a ST’s guy mainly old coach.
Percy Harvin traded to the Seahawks….
Ah, beat me Jack, lol
Our games against Seattle are going to be epic.
It’s their headache.
I see what you did there.
Good one
Here’s to hoping they gave up a lot for him.
Supposedly just their first pick. Which wouldn’t have been used to draft anyone better anyway.
Their first pick plus the contract that he is demanding. He said he wants to be paid like Calvin Johnson/Larry Fitzgerald and supposedly they were comfortable with whatever his final contract expectations were. It’s definitely an NFC West arms race for the Hawks.
This is potentially a one year rental. Harvin wants a contract matching the one Megatron signed, so unless the Seahawks are willing to put financial strain on their salary cap for the next few years, then this is all he will be to them. So they better hope that they didn’t give up too much for Mr. Headache.
A first round pick for a guy who struggles to stay healthy?
He is a gifted player. But he clearly over values himself. He’s not worth fitz/mega money. He cannot stay healthy and he isn’t a big time WR like them. He had a gift in Minn in AP. stacked box every down guaranteed one v one coverage. He won’t be as lucky in Seattle. His production will fall.
Midwest,
It was reported that a new contract for Harvin was part of the deal. It wouldn’t make sense to give up your first round pick for a one year rental.
Any news on the contract’s details?
Midwest,
No actual numbers, just this report. He has a volatile personality and has been pissed about his contract for a couple of years now. There is no way they would give up a first round pick for this guy to have a pissed off rental on their hands. Either way, he isn’t the type of player that I would want to invest big $$$ in. He has been a jerk going back to his Florida days.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/11/harvin-trade-will-include-new-contract/
According to Jay Glazer of NFL, the breaking news is that the Vikings are trading Harvin to Seattle. Guess he’s coming west afterall.
Defense, defense, and more defense!
Rumor a couple of weeks ago was that Minn was talking a 2nd & 4th to Miami for Harvin.
Cofer’s two SB rings stolen, he must be broke living in Henderson NV.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2013/03/11/super-bowl-rings-stolen-mike-cofer-nevada-san-francisco-49ers/1978853/
Oh, this is just great !!! This means the 9ers will get absolutely smoked by the Seahawks !!! Not to mention the Vikings has just agreed to trade Percy Harvin to the Seahawks as well !!! We are screwed !!!
We are not screwed. This is just another slot WR eating us up. Big deal. We need to bolster our CB a bit, but what we really need to do is build around KAP!!! We need more firepower on O to match Seattle and the other divisional teams. We need a replacement for Gore to eat up the clock when nessecary. We need a redzone WR threat.
I hope Harvin goes the Seattle. He will eat up their cap and get knocked out by our LBs running those intermediate routes.
THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!
Our LBs will not have to do anything. Harvin will miss games due to his headaches. A strong pass rush will also negate him a any type of threat.
MidWest,
The headache thing is way overblown. He missed a total of 3 games over 3 years prior to injuring his ankle and the falling out with the coaching staff last year.
I was thinking of the headaches he will have after going up against our defense as well Jack.
If my memory is correct it was our defense that had the headache after the Vikings game last year….
Yeah I know Jack. But we haven’t faced him that much. Two times a year will allow the coaching staff to figure out how to take him out of the game as a threat.
Begin the “should we sign him” discussions regarding D. Hall.
I was thinking the TRADE FOR REVIS chorus would be the more apparent one. Hopefully it doesn’t start up.
Coffee, no thanks. I wouldn’t want a player who the ‘skins fans have nicknamed MeAngelo, lol.
CFC
Was D.Hall released?
BOS, yeah, he was just released.

Now that there seems to be a glutiny of CB’s available im hoping that a mid range FA comes aboard for short money a la C. Rogers circa 2011
@ProFootballTalk: 49ers sign Ian Williams to a two-year, $3.2 million extension, per league source.
So long Ike and RJF…
Looks like he has a good shot at being a starter.
They have been grooming him to be the starter, and that contract shows he will be the man in the middle in ’13.
A good indication that Fangio believes in him. I’m sure they will bring in some competition for him.
They already have it Razor. His name is Tony Jerrod-Eddie.
I liked Eddie coming out, but I believe they draft another to throw in the mix, although it seems now it will not be in the first round.
If they do it will be with one of their 7th round compensatory picks.
Jack
Dont we have enough undrafted guys at DT already (williams, dobs, tukuafu, eddie) maybe a mid rd pick wouldnt be so bad. Im all for finding gems but if u go to heavy on the UFA in any one position ur just as likely to end up with a bag of coal
BOS,
There is a difference between NT and DT.
The 49ers NT only plays about 30-35% of the snaps.
49ers will draft a DE/DT before the 7th round. Even if they love these undrafted players, they’re not going to ignore players that could potentially be better and have no real competition in camp.
Space,
Who said the won’t draft a DT/DE?
Jack
I know, but do u think that Ian is strictly a NT or could he slide to DE to spell cowboy or Mcdonald?
I think he is strictly a NT.
In that case draft a guy in the mid rounds who can spell the DE for now and maybe develop in to something better in a year or two. Id prefer the “high motor” guys that are maybe lacking elsewhere than an ultra talented guys with motivation issues (balmer mcGrew yikes)
That’s kinda what I have been saying for a couple of weeks…
heads up Grant,
I’m man enough to admit that you MIGHT be right and that the Niners see more in him as the Nose Tackle of the Future…or at least a viable stop gap measure.
Or Jack, are you just speaking to NT with Jerod-Eddie?
NT Space.
I guess I was thinking of him as a DT/DE as he was projected to be coming out of college. But I get what you are saying now – but I think the 49ers could also try him on other spots along the line like RJF.
Im not worried about Harvin going to Seattle. That team still runs its offense through Lynch and if he goes down, so do they. We really do need to strengthen our defense with several key players from the last couple years probably leaving. Our line can use some depth to help out the secondary. We can pick up some solid help starting tomorrow by restructuring contracts and cutting players.
KNBR just repeated a rumor Harvin to the Seahawks in exchange for their first rounder.
Bad that Seattle has another weapon. Good that Seattle (if true) had to give up a first. The Seahawks draft ahead of the Niners. They tend to covet similar players. Helps the 49ers draft position.
Good point.
Helps the 49ers draft position.
I couldn’t disagree more. This gives the Vikings a better chance to take away a DL, CB, or WR that the Niners have their eyes on.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/49ers-interested-cornerback-sean-smith
Beat me to it. But it is a bad move as he is inconsistent and would be a downgrade from Rogers IMO.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/11/vikings-get-three-picks-for-harvin/
That’s not a lot. Maybe the market dried up for him, or no one but Seattle would meet his salary demands.
The 9ers big FA signing for 2013…….Sean Smith CB Miami Dolphins for about 7 mill a yr. then they take honey badger with their pick in the 2nd rd and the CB position is taken care of for about 5 yrs. Lawrece Tynes will be the other semi major signing. Then all we have to do is draft players who can get after the QB whether its a DT or DE or OLB.
Would be nice to have a pair of shut-down safeties too.
Cyprien top of the second round? I like him.
Phillip Thomas in the third round. Good coverage skills.
@MidWestNiner
I like him too, I just like Cyprien better. He has solid coverage skills as well as delivering the goods upon impact.
I think Cyprien will get drafted by the Ravens if the Niners decide to acquire a DL, CB or WR first.
@MidWestNiner
I think it’s safe to assume that the 49ers will not be drafting DL in the first round. Mr. Williams will be the starter with Jerrod-Eddie competing.
We can’t know that for sure Razor. They could draft a DE in the first round and have him sit behind the Cowboy for a year.
Razor,
I don’t think resigning Williams will keep them from drafting a Dlineman with the first pick. The NT played about 30% of the snaps last year, so they still need solid backups for McDonald and Smith as well as hopefully somebody to take over from Smith next year or the year after.
You’re right, I guess I assumed that Dobbs is another guy like Williams who they think might be that guy.
I personally do not believe Mr. Smith is worth that kind of money. I’d rather have Talib, and he’s cheaper and better. You’d just have to have that contract clause of no trouble.
If the Eagles offered RJF three years at 12 million the 49ers should match it.
RJF looked bad in the Seattle game subbing for Justin, but he was blatantly held. His strength middle and the opposite side backing up Sopoaga and McDonald.
No offense sir, but no way in hell RJF is worth $4 million a year imho.
Brodie there is no way they would match and offer like that. If they did they’d be paying him the same amount as McDonald who is a starter. With all of their draft picks the liklihood is they draft a couple of Dlineman to replace Sopo and RJF at a much lower cost.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/49ers-interested-cornerback-sean-smith
Hard to believe Baalke would go after this guy on his size alone.
Another player with some major consistency problems, Smith is capable of both great games and awful ones, and his season performance graph looks like a rollercoaster ride. His performances ranged from not allowing a single catch against the Jets in Week 3 despite eight targets to being beaten every time he was targeted in Week 12 against the Seahawks for 72 yards and a score. Graded out at minus 3.6

This is funny!

LMAO! That was priceless.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000149373/article/dallas-cowboys-release-dan-connor
Could be a solid backup here.
First priority for the Niners is CB!!!! The Seahawks went and got one of the best WR’s out there. They are gonna kill us with their offense and pass game because we won’t be able to cover that dude at all – HE’S TOO FAST. We need to step our game up and draft a CB first round no doubt.
Honey Badger don’t care about Harvin…
I agree with us drafting honey badger but I don’t know what round we’d get him in? Especially with his stock falling because of off the field issues
That’s not true Razor. He cares about how hard he wants to hit him ergo he does care about Harvin, just not in a warm and fuzzy feeling kind of way.
He’s currently being projected as a third round pick Jhaws23.
Ok… I’d trade up in the third to get him, just to be sure you know? What do we have to lose, we have so many dang picks!!!
Don’t go into the fetal position because Harvin is a Seahawk. The Niners will be ok.
And now for a little mindless speculation… Seattle gave up a 25th for Harvin. Could the 49ers give up a 31rst for Victor Cruz?
Cruz hasn’t been as big of a pain for the Giants so I don’t see them trading him.
Midwest,
It’s a very different situation than Harvin. He’s a RFA tendered at a 1st round pick level. If a team offers Cruz a contract then the Giants either match it or let him go and take the 1st round pick in return. Giving up a 1st round pick for the production of Cruz is interesting to say the least.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000149375/article/mara-giants-to-use-firstround-tender-on-victor-cruz
I agree with the situation being different Rocket, but Cruz hasn’t worn out his welcome like Harvin did in Minnesota and everywhere else he has played. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants match any offer for him.
Got it Midwest. Just pointing out it’s not a trade situation for the Giants. If they were willing to pay him top dollar he’d be signed long term right now so I’m not so sure they would match a big offer.

I’m expecting a re-run of the last few FA periods. Few signings early, the 49ers losing multiple players, later in the week a rash of new middle priced contracts.
I always thought we’d go the FA route for CB and WR help. We don’t have to wait for them to develop. Smith would be interesting and the big CB we wanted. I thought they might go Keenan Lewis from Pitts. For WR, I saw us going for a taller no name WR like Rames Barden or David Nelson.
With the draft lacking at the top and solid in late 2nd and 3rd, I saw us not trading up and instead keep those picks. We’ll look for DE and NT help first. I wanted Datone Jones and thought we’d have to trade above Seattle. Now we don’t have to. In the 2nd, I like Zach Ertz and Phillip Thomas. Trade back into the 2nd for Brandon Williams. Then take Marcus Lattimore with the 4th comp pick.
I love you playing fantasy GM Grant and these posts on players we are interested in or visited with. Just don’t get so upset when the team doesn’t do what you want.
“…I wanted Datone Jones and thought we’d have to trade above Seattle. Now we don’t have to.” I was thinking something along those lines.
He’ll be gone by the middle of the first round.
Boldin a 49er, just saw this!
