The 49ers just announced they signed former Fresno State and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Marlon Moore to a one-year deal.
Moore (6-0, 190 pounds) was an undrafted free agent in 2010. He has started two games in two seasons and has caught 12 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
Had you heard of Moore before today? Do you think he will make the 49ers’ 53-man roster?

meh
Who???? Gotta look up his speed and hands. I hope this isn’t T Ginn 2.0
All about competing, although he was not able to crack the Dolphins putrid depth chart at the position so chances are he’s camp fodder.
+1
4.49 speed. Read his hands were shaky, but makes plays in the big moment. Might be a roster filler for TC.
special teams pick up?
Yep. See his quotes below. Not sure why Grant doesn’t include this stuff in his posts above.
Could be. Speed can be used for more than just deep balls. Hope he works out. Baalke loves finding those diamonds that can produce. Instead of wasting money and time.
OK did some more research on him. And I’m pulling for him big time. He’s a Sacramento Native AND went to the highschool right down the street from me! GO MOORE!!!
rooting for him too NorCal all the way!
A ruse to obscure draft tendancies?
tendencies -sorry!
Given these quotes its obvious what he is here for – Niners are upgrading their coverage units:
Just spoke to Marlon Moore who said he’s a “speed guy.” He’s looking forward to dancing and covering kicks with the #49ers kickoff team. He said “I can go downfield and get the ball. On special teams I’ll go out and hit you.”
Sweet. Seems Seelys’ personnel request has been approved and filled. One last acquisition, punt returner…Honey Badger.
Dawson is great news and Moore’s speed is welcome. If Moore can field punts that would be even greater addition to the team.
hmm…well, he’s done more than A.J. Jenkins!
Well played.
Though in 2011 he equaled Jenkins with zero catches. Won’t be on the 53 unless it is for ST, but I doubt it.
Don’t teams usually wait until April to sign camp meat?
Baalke: Just givng the illusion of being active in FA, lol!
Like his 19+ Yards Per Catch and Special Teams abilities. Concerned that Baalke needs to sign a player with an almost identical build as AJ Jenkins.
this is pretty cool, he can return punts and play gunner. didn’t do too badly at receiver either when given a chance.

This rule change could also affect Manningham.

I like it. It will keep a player from rushing back too quickly from this injury.
We still need to draft a couple of WR’ who could provide better hope for the future.
Crabtree, Boldin, and Jenkins are not going anywhere, but the other WR’ currently on the roster might be bubble players at best.
I love both Manningham and K.Williams, but they seem to run the danger of always being one hit away from the injury list.
Jenkins is the same body type as Manningham. I still don’t know what we have in him until I see him play and take some NFL hits. But his body type give me pause, hence the dire need for bigger physical (Boldin type) WR’s.
We could also use another TE/FB type who could be developed to spell VD and Celek down the road.
AES – I wonder if that suits their current philosophy though? I could be wrong, but last years draft seemed to emphasise speed on offense, which would seem to suit Kaep. Boldin breaks from this mold and suggests they’ve realised they needed another physical WR, but it will be interesting to see if they now revert back to looking for speed guys. I can see the 49ers future at WR being Crabtree as the physical WR and then two speedy guys to take advantage of Kaep’s cannon downfield and open up running room.
Good points as usual Scooter.
I have been advocating for the team to draft bigger/physical WR’ who also have the ability to stretch the field.
I love our current WR’s, I just don’t like it when they have to line-up against the c-hawks our greatest nemesis (for the immediate future).
There are some WR’ coming into the draft that seem to fill the type body type and speed I like.
Da’Rick Rodgers, Chris Harper, Aaron Mellette just to name a few.
These guys could be there from the 2nd (our second pick in the 2nd) thru 4th rds.
If we could package a deal to get DeAndre Hopkins (Boldin 2.0) it could possibly be a good solution as well.
Exciting times ahead!
I wonder where Deandre Hopkins is projected to go in the draft. This dude was a bigplay wr who can be a vertical threat for us. Everytime I watched Clemson he was making plays. There other wr Sammy Watkins is a beast too.

Hopkins is being projected as a late 1st round to early second round pick Brian.
I love the exuberance. Bottom line is this is gonna be an awesome year. Ive been a Niner fan since before their first Superbowl. This team is gonna rock!
If they only take one in the draft we’ll be up to 9 receivers under contract. I believe we carried 5 receivers during the season. We know for sure that two of them will be Crabtree and Boldin. Who else do they keep and who gets chopped. If they do draft another WR in the top 4 rounds I would assume that they would be kept as well and not trusted to lasting on our practice squad. So if we do only carry 5 who would be the final two if we end up drafting someone relatively high? If we kept 6 then it’s a bit easier but still have to make a tough cut or two.
Coffee,
They carried 6 WR’s last year. I think you can put Crabtree, Boldin, Manningham, Jenkins, and Williams as the top 5.
OK, good to know. So do you think a draft pick is #6?
Probably. They also may choose to have Manningham inactive early depending on how health. Maybe that opens another spot.
Do you think Anquan was a responce to losing Walker or a replacement for Moss or Manningham? Anquan is the epitome of a slot receiver……im thinking it was the Walker loss. Walker was a huge loss. Anquan fills that hole. Whatcha think?
On draft picks……they need better corners and they suffered when they got thin at DE. A WR in the first round is improbable. They have the offense in place. The D looked like it had holes in it in the playoffs. Im just saying.
This guy is a special teams ace. That’s why he was brought in.
Agreed.
