Looks like officially … coach Harbs
has taken the training wheels away from The Kaep
AS may not have CK’s skill set, but he can read a defense, which is HUGE for NFL QB success. It seems CK is a class act as well.
+1001
Something he learned the hard way with the years he was under enter. Downside was he couldn’t beat those defenses with his arm. Good luck to him in KC he’s goin to need it.
ninermd again showing a lack of a brain….
FACT: Alex is a winning NFL QB
We all know that fact kills you inside.
Yep,Alex is going to need it Ninermd ! Alex is a tough guy but here he goes with his 8th OC in 9 years and only one WR and an O line that is not the best. All the AlexCUSES will be in use again this year.
I hope he surprises me and does very well in KC,since I like the guy and would love to see him have a good finish to his career…and I also want us to get upgraded to a 2nd rounder in 2014 !
how many suprises do you need Timmy.
Smith is a smart guy, who could have a nice career as a coach if e decides to go down that path after he is done playing.
I think he has much higher aspirations than being a coach, but I agree that he would make a good one.
Really? Not so certain. I imagine the offense he would run would be super conservative and pretty boring. Although, if you’re just talking about a QB coach under a great offensive coordinator, then I could see it.
Or high school where coaching values is important. Not unless its some out of control factory like De La Salle
I’ve always felt he would be a very good coach. He’s got the smarts. Maybe he’s a Harbaugh 2.0 in the future.
I dont thinkalex smith will make a good coach until he learns how to take critiscm and learns to take things that he wants.. Right now he would make a great qb voach because hes knows what it takes to succeed. Harbaugh came in held his hand and gave him the job for 2 years. The past 2 coaches criticized and rode him n he pretty much shut down. And when harbaugh finally had competition for smith, the other guy took the job. Smith would make a great qb coach because hes been up and down and could teach. Look what he did for kaep. But as for head coach…….. only time will tell

“Alex never met a backup he couldn’t lose his job to.”
- Damon Bruce
you’re quoting damon bruce? there goes credibility.
Hmmm…
JDilla
DBruce is the truth, never BSs anything. And if you care to check it out, his ridiculous comment, quoted above, is 100% accurate.
Damon Bruce is highly hated by smith fans. He keeps it real which is the reason I listen to him instead of fitz and brooks. One is an employee of the 49ers the other is a dork with a chip on his shoulder.
It’s less about this specific comment, more about damon in general. There’s a reason he is on 1050 and not 680.
Ah, he “keeps it real” and “never BSs.” That must mean he’s a deep-thinker who provides informed opinions and keen insight. Because you never hear those words used self-delusionally to describe a guy who simply tells uninformed mouth-breathers what they want to hear. Never.
The past two coaches had absolutely no idea in coaching a QB, so your point on Smith not being able to take criticism is moot.
Actionable criticism like Harbaugh’s “You secure the ball in the pocket like this (demonstration), not like this…” works.
In-actionable criticism like Singletary’s “I want winners” and Nolan’s “Your shoulder is not really injured” don’t work.
A live arm throws lasers. A dead arm lobs flutterducks.
hear, hear!
… and Mr. E tosses out trite half-truths.
CB
Trite? Half-truth?
Damon Bruce is a loud mouthed, lackwit.
Only 5 responses to a post with Alex Smith in the title? It looks like the well is starting to dry.
Yep Big P, the hate has been real quiet lately. No worries, there HAS to be a scapegoat. Which player will receive the mis-placed negative energy now?
No1. its gonna be unit wide.. either the offense defense or special teams or coaching will get the blame
It will be CK. It will just be that the extremes will shift position. Sort of like the south pole becomes the north pole and vice versa.
Adam, agreed. It’s always the QBs fault especially in SF where the previous elites are HoFers. See what I did there? lol
I like it! :P
…the Alex well could wet up again in 2yrs when he becomes a FA.
Culliver is the bash dummy now. Ill wait for his small fan group to start making excuses and praising him like he’s a god wearing the #11.
Funny it’s ok to bash that man with nobody saying a thing. Add him to the list of coaches and players that aren’t marked with the special halo!
“He was always in my ear, making sure I was seeing the defense.”

If Alex new so much why was he so cautious???
*knew
skill set
Kap neeeds to man up and stop with the phony praises…Just say “Alex helped me mature as a QB and I respect him”…don’t go overboard with this politically correct B.S.
Crabs,
I think he truly means it. How could you not be grateful to somebody that helped you succeed after you took his job? It’s not just the help with football, but the way Smith set the tone for the rest of the team to follow after he lost his job to CK. He made sure the team kept its focus by maintaining his. He behaved as a true professional and was a positive influence to CK. Whatever your opinion is about Smith as a QB, there is no argument that he is truly a great person with high character. The same can be said about CK, which is a big reason the team rallied around him like they did. I just really respect the way Smith handled the situation and I believe CK sincerely feels the same way. What else can the kid say when he is asked the same question a thousand times by the media with the hope that he will eventually say something/anything that could be construed as derogatory? He obviously likes and respects Smith.
Crab:
What’s with the latent hostility towards Alex Smith?
@Claude
I think it’s just withdrawal
C Balls – Kap praised Alex 40-50 times the last 2 months, don’t you think that’s enough?
Next time he’s asked about Alex he should use the “already plowed that field” comment.
Crab:
I didn’t realize he had exceeded his limit.
Now you know.
Lol. Crabs, enforcer of compliments. What’s going on brotha?
BigP – Here’s my Alex Smith take. I’ve always been a huge fan of your posts but I disagree with some of your Alex Smith love. I can’t sugar coat it anymore.
If Steve Young or Brett Favre lost their starting job after getting to NFC Title game, then proceeded to go 6-2 the next season and then lost their starting job due to an injury??? They (Young & Favre) would’ve gone nuts and “fought to the death” to keep their starting jobs, rather than be passive, politically correct weasels! Are you kiddin me? I was all in on Alex after Saints playoff game victory.
Alex is a true nice guy and would be the ultimate next door neighbor but he lacked the balls to keep his starting job. Harbs may have been testing Alex to see if he’d man up and refuse to lose his starting job over a concussion. Alex failed this test miserably BigP.
I never was a Smith hater but I hated how Smith coughed up his job without a fight.
It took Alex 7.5 years to get respect and he gave it up in 1 week, like a jelly fish.
Hofer, MidWest, Prime, Oneniner, C Balls, CFC, Oregoniner, Rocket, Latino Heat, Hightop, Ribico and a few others will disagree with me but 23J, Bay, MD, Razor, Tuna, Nick, Neal (real deal), Steele, 49erGirl, Clem , Fourth & Alex, Tim, Spaceborn, Chicago, FDM, Mr. E, UnderCenter and a few others may agree with me.
I’m not sure which side of the fence Jack Hammer, El Guapo, AES, Rusty, Adam, Angus, Scooter, Grimey, Coach, Rusty, Adam 707, El Mag, Big Niner, XGolfer and a few others would be on?
LOL
Crab15,
I think CK is being cautious in his comments. The Alex to KC deal will not be officially consummated until March 12.
Alex is still a 49er until this date.
I’m sure that the questions put to CK about AS will soon fade after 3/12. CK has displayed nothing but class and good character since the transition.
I see absolutely no reason why CK would not be sincere and honest in remarks regarding AS.
After all, Alex was a leader in the locker room, and was the consummate professional both on and off the field.
I’m sure alex will be good at helping his replacement in KC mature as well.
I think that is one big reason Andy Reid wanted him.
Alex was a good soldier who fought the good fight until the chosen one that was prophesied arrived.
It’s good to see that the foundation will carry on: http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/02/26/alex-smiths-foundation-held-up-as-a-non-profit-model/
Also good to see the haters get shot down on Eric’s page :)
Adam,
If you thought Alex Rodriguez was a dirtball before, read this article. I read this last week, it really is kind of sad that even when millionaire athletes have a chance to make a difference, many of them think of themselves. How many of these guys are taking advantage of the tax exempt status of charities solely to hook their boys up with officer salaries from the donations? Child hood buddies Pick Pocket and Pork Chop are getting the money that is supposed to go to the charities cause. Smith is the exact opposite and a rare breed. The world needs more people like him.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/alex-rodriguez-charity-gave-only-1-percent-donations-163106184–mlb.html
Yeah, I agree. I’m not an A-Rod fan whatsoever and this is pretty disgusting.
The irritating thing for me, on a selfish level, is I have a couple of his rookie cards I was hoping to cash in some day. Dammit! :P
I have the same reaction every time there’s a controversy with Kobe Bryant: “Shut up, man! I have your rookie cards.” Ha.
I remember when the Jose Canseco “Rated Rookie” card was worth some serious cheddar. We had it down to a science. We knew exactly which pack in the box had the card. It was like the second pack from the bottom of the last row in the box or something. We would go into the grocery stores and Toys R’ Us to find new boxes and we would get the pack out of each one with the Jose Canseco Rated Rookie card. We would then go sell them for cash at the card shops and fund our NES video game habit. I think I was like nine or ten years old. Lol. They aren’t worth anything now.
http://deadspin.com/263862/for-multiple-reasons-your-jose-canseco-rated-rookie-card-is-worth-nothing
Ah yeah, the Bash Brothers. Don’t bring that up. :P
I had a bad run with some of these. Fortunately, I still have a few good ones. I’ve still got a couple of Montana’s ’81 Topps. I need to get those graded. Unfortunately most of those were off-centered. Of all the crap luck, you don’t see many Montana’s with great grades. Min are probably 8-9 range, maybe a couple hundred bucks each.
@ Adam
Cards are a specialty market for sure, and pretty fluid. My wife’s a banker and once had a conversation with a guy who wanted to use his BB Card Collection as collateral for a loan. It was a short conversation.
Alex is no Montana. Can you imagine Joe in Young’s ear about spotting coverages?
In terms of character, maybe Montana is no Smith. You make it sound like helping a teammate is a bad thing, or some sort of weakness. It isn’t. It’s a lot harder to help somebody that replaced you than it is to ignore them and divide the locker room.
Well, Joe never much liked Steve and he’s hyper-competitive also. Joe once joked that Jennifer was always on him for getting too mad when someone cut him off while driving. Favre wouldn’t mentor Rogers.
Some do, some don’t. Like you I admire those who do. Bodhisatva (sp?)
Smith is and always has been about team first. He really is an anomaly when it comes to modern day athletes.
“Alex is no Montana”
You misunderstood me. I was using that comment to take a shot at those still feeling the need to slam Alex Smith. I’ve always thought Montana was the best quarterback I’ve ever seen, and that goes back to Frankie Albert.
Steve Young and Alex Smith are both among the best people and team players I’ve ever seen in a major sports setting.
@rocket – “Smith is and always has been about team first.”
This is why this was a perfect deal for a team like KC……they get a proven offensive coach and a QB who is all about team leadership + a good defense – reminds me of a team (49ers) who needed a solid team foundation before going to the read option.
@ninermd – you are accurate about one thing –”Leopards don’t change their spots.” – A hater will always find something to hate about.
Will Flacco’s mega-contract inflate Kaepernick’s 2014 renegotiated contract price?
If so that means the 49ers might front load retained veterans contacts into 2013 to make room, which might mean letting not only Goldson but RFJ and perhaps Sopoaga walk.
Smart to stockpile cap friendly draft choices into 2013-14. These will be partial re-build years despite the winning record.
Theres nothing dysfunctional about it…he lost his ob plain n simple
I don’t think it’s dysfunctional now but yeah, for sure when Smith started up it was a mess.
The only thing I see now as an improvement is if Harbaugh keeps a lid on his nuttiness. It’s splashed all over the place. Just read a story the other day on NFL Net about Harbuagh being ‘weird’.
He just needs to bring it down a notch and he can’t be the players’ best friend. That won’t work in the long run. He needs to be the coach not the buddy you go golfing with.
Otherwise… not too dysfunctional. Hopefully those days are behind us? At least for a while. :/
I dont c anything wrong wit harbaugh going nuts on the field… its him n if hes pissed thats wat he does. Its bn plenty of coaches that snap tha hell out. He just does way more often
Not just the field.
Q: Adam, what’s your favorite yogurt?
A: Vanilla. No … check that, plain.
Nobody has a clue how Alex will fare. This year will be interesting to watch. We will learn about Alex, Reid, and Harbaugh. I think he’ll do fairly well, but he won’t change his stripes. Can he carry a pass-heavy offense? If he can’t, will Reid adjust his playcalling to suit Alex’s talents? Was Harbaugh stifling Alex in any way? He might just be the good QB emerging in 2012. Certainly has the smarts and character to retain lessons and make changes where necessary. But will he go all happy feet when it matters? Hmmmmm.
Who’s that photo of? Grant?
Leopards don’t change their spots. Smith never had the physical gifts to really kill secondary’s or throw receivers open when he had to.
Reid had good rb’s and never used them to their full potential. KC’s O-line was horrible. (No matter what Claude’s computer scores say) I saw their qb’s get murdered. They have 1 receiver. NO tight end! Rb is solid but not a game breaker. Defense is OK.
My point the other day was this KC team doesn’t have the talent we did when smith was starting 2 years ago. Smiths numbers as far as rating will look good. But scoring and big plays are going to be a problem. Their defense can’t win games. They’re in trouble. And in that weak division they shouldn’t be. The only success they will have will be in that division.
nobody has a clue but you – you truly are Mr. everything + wrong
This was a response to MR E BTW!
Guess what, the sky is purple, tigers are friendly and water is dry. See I can say things that are absolutely false too.
@ninermd – blah blah…….and you know all this because you are related to dick morris.
Alex is no longer a niner, and yet you seem to know so much on how the chiefs will perform.
Isn’t this prove you were actually the one following one player, now its obvious you have followed him to the chiefs…..
the hater in you can never quit……bro
Probably the concussion that benched Alex Smith.
It’s Alex Smith getting hit in the head for the last time as a 49er.
That’s actually me. I was eating a nice salad and someone served me a Merlot.
