SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for Rounds four through seven of the 2013 NFL draft. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
8:46 I had a thought in the middle of the night I wanted to share: The 49ers’ top-2 right defensive ends in their sub packages – Aldon Smith and Tank Carradine – are both in the middle of serious rehabs. Aldon Smith is rehabbing a torn labrum and Carradine a torn ACL. It’s conceivable neither player will be ready at the beginning of training camp and Corey Lemonier will be the starting RDE in August.
8:57 The 49ers biggest needs are slot cornerback and wide receiver, although they also could draft a quarterback if they like one. Tyler Wilson would be a good pick.
9:00 Gil Brandt tweet: “Big Ten has only had 7 players selected so far. LSU alone has had 6 players picked, FSU has 5, and Georgia, UNC and Florida with 4 each.”
9:01 The Jaguars just traded the 98th pick to the Eagles. They take QB Matt Barkley. He doesn’t seem like a good fit for Chip Kelly. He has slow feet and a mediocre arm. I guess he’s their backup quarterback of the future, not Nick Foles.
9:10 The Chiefs draft Alabama LB Nico Johnson. The Raiders are on the clock. And they trade down with the Buccaneers. Good move the Raiders. The Buccaneers are the most aggressive team in the NFL this offseason. They draft DT Akeem Spence from Illinois.
9:16 Matt Barkley was 1-3 in his college career against Chip Kelly.
9:17 The Jaguars draft WR Ace Sanders. The Patriots are on the clock.
9:20 Adam Schefter reports the Raiders traded down because they were targeting Matt Barkley.
9:20 The Patriots draft WR Josh Boyce. He’s insurance for when Danny Amendola inevitably gets hurt. Quinton Patton continues to slide. The Cardinals are on the clock.
9:22 The Cardinals draft Alex Okafor. That’s a great pick. He could be a terrific Leo for them. The Dolphins are on the clock.
9:27 The Dolphins draft Florida LB Jelani Jenkins. The Bills are on the clock.
9:29 The Bills draft Nevada SS Duke Williams. I didn’t expect him to get drafted this early.
9:36 The Titans draft Cal C Brian Schwenke. The Panthers are on the clock.
9:40 The Panthers draft OG Edmond Kugbila from Valdosta State. No surprise there. The Packers are on the clock. They draft OT David Bakhtiari. The Cardinals are on the clock.
9:44 The Giants trade up with the Cardinals and draft QB Ryan Nassib. I don’t like that pick. The Browns are on the clock.
9:46 The Steelers trade up with the Browns an draft SS Shamarko Thomas. The Raiders are on the clock.
9:51 The Raiders draft QB Tyler Wilson. They just drafted the best quarterback in the draft. Don’t be surprised if Tyler Wilson beats out Matt Flynn in training camp just like Russell Wilson did last year. The Raiders are having an excellent draft. Good for them.
9:53 The Rams draft C Barrett Jones. The Cowboys are on the clock.
9:55 The Cowboys draft CB B.W. Webb. The 49ers may need to trade up to get Jordan Poyer.
9:57 The Steelers draft QB Landry Jones. The Cardinals are on the clock.

10:11 But they draft a linebacker, Gerald Hodges from Penn State. Good pick. The Colts are on the clock. It’s amazing how far Jordan Poyer is dropping.
10:14 The Colts draft C Khaled Holmes from USC. The Packers are on the clock.
10:17 The Packers draft OT J.C. Tretter. The Seahawks are on the clock.
10:19 The Seahawks draft WR Chris Harper. Great pick. I’d expect them to develop him into an H-back.
10:23 The Texans draft DE Trevardo Williams. The Broncos are on the clock.
10:24 The Packers trade up with the Broncos, and they draft RB Johnathan Franklin. The Packers have the two best running backs in the draft – Franklin and Eddie Lacy. They should have a much more balanced offense next season.
10:31 The Buccaneers draft DE William Gholston. The Falcons are on deck, and the 49ers are in the hole. I’m surprised the 49ers didn’t trade up in the first round, but Poyer seems to be falling right to them.
10:33 The Falcons draft DE Malliciah Goodwin. The 49ers are on the clock.
10:36 The 49ers draft Quinton Patton. Very good pick. He’s going to be tough competition for A.J. Jenkins in training camp. The 49ers should draft Jordan Poyer at No.131.
10:41 The Ravens draft DE John Simon. The Ravens are on the clock again. They pick FB Kyle Juszcyk. The 49ers are back on the clock. I’d be surprised if they don’t draft Poyer here.
10:46 The 49ers draft RB Marcus Lattimore. That’s a good luxury pick if his knee recovers. The 49ers’ still have a huge need at slot corner.
10:55 The Falcons draft TE Levine Toilolo with the final pick of the fourth round. The Chiefs are on the clock.
10:59 The Chiefs draft CB Sanders Commings. Good pick. The Jaguars are up, and they draft Denard Robinson. Might they give him a chance to play quarterback?
11:04 The Eagles draft strong safety Earl Wolff. The Seahawks trade up with the Lions and are on the clock. The Seahawks draft DT Jesse Williams. I guess he’ll play over tackle for them. The Seahawks are on the clock again. They draft Tharold Simon, CB from LSU. The Browns are on the clock.
11:13 The Colts trade up with the Browns and draft DT Montori Hughes. The Cardinals are on the clock. They draft Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor. Very good draft pick. The Jets are up next.
11:30 The Jets take OT Oday Aboushi, the Titans take DE Lavar Edwards and the Bills take SS Jonathan Meeks. The Saints are on the clock.
11:31 The Saints draft deep threat wide receiver Kenny Stills. The Chargers are up.
11:33 Forget slot CB Steve Williams – the Chargers just drafted him. Boy am I surprised he got drafted before Jordan Poyer. The Broncos are up.
11:36 They draft DE Quanterus Smith. The Buccaneers are up with the 147th pick. The 49ers own the 157th pick.

12:07 The Packers take slot CB Micah Hyde. The Texans are up. But the Rams trade into the spot and draft RB Zac Stacy. He’ll be their power-back replacement for Steven Jackson. The Broncos are up.
12:14 The Broncos draft WR Tavarres King. The Redskins are up.
12:17 Washington drafts LB Brandon Jenkins. The Bears are up.
12:20 The Bears draft OT Jordan Mills. The Dolphins are on the clock.

12:29 If the 49ers do not draft a cornerback, I cannot give them higher than a B. Already I feel they’ve waited too long to get one. Quinton Dial was a luxury pick. Cover corner is the biggest need by far on the team.

2:39 The Jaguars just drafted two more cornerbacks – Jeremy Harris and Demetrius McCray.
3:03 The Eagles draft CB Jordan Poyer with the 218th pick. Great pick, Tom Gamble. The Eagles have their slot corner.
3:48 With the 237th pick, the 49ers draft QB B.J. Daniels from USF. He’s 5-11 and he completed 57 percent of his passes in the Big East.
4:11 The 49ers draft OT Carter Bykowski from Iowa State with the 246th pick.
4:19 The Ravens just drafted a CB – Cal’s Marc Anthony. The 49ers’s final pick is two picks away.
4:23 The 49ers draft the 29th CB with the third-from-the-last pick in the draft – Marcus Cooper from Rutgers.
4:54 Cooper seems like a very athletic kid – big and fast. He seems to fit better on the outside than the inside, and he said on the conference call that his only experience playing in the slot has been in practice. He mostly backed up Logan Ryan and Brandon Jones at Rutgers. I’d say Cooper has an outside chance to make the team.
