49ers vs. Rams live blog: Pregame

SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers’ Week 9 game against the Rams. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

11:41 Patrick Willis and Tramaine Brock are inactive.  Josh Johnson, Quinton Patton, Dillon Farrell, Demarcus Dobbs and Tank Carradine also are inactive. Chris Borland will start for Willis and Perrish Cox will start for Brock.

11:43 The Rams’ inactives are Janoris Jenkins, Maurice Alexander, Cody Davis, Korey Toomer, Brandon Washington, Alex Bayer and Ethan Westbrooks. Marcus Roberson will start for Jenkins.

11:46 With Willis out, expect the Rams to challenge the 49ers’ run defense. Rookie running back Tre Mason is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. The Rams drafted him with the 75th pick in the draft, five picks after the 49ers took Marcus Martin. The 49ers’ drafted Carlos Hyde with the 57th pick. He is averaging 3.4 yards per carry.

11:56 Too bad Janoris Jenkins isn’t playing. The undisciplined cornerback was allowing a 123.2 passer rating this season. Greg Roman has to find another corner to pick on.

12:00 Jay Glazer tweeted this a few hours ago: “One surprising name not out there but shopped b4 trade deadline: 49er LB Ahmad Brooks. CLE was in talks but then 49ers bailed on it late.”

12:02 The 49ers activated cornerback Leon McFadden from the pratice squad a few days ago and he is active for this game.

12:11 According to the 49ers’ P.R. department, the 49ers’ defense has allowed 90 rushing yards per game and 11 rushing touchdowns at home during the Harbaugh Era.

12:19 The grass looks new and fresh in the middle of the field between the numbers. The grass looks old and beat up outside the numbers.

  1. Can you be more specific when you say “challenge the 49ers’ run defense?” Does that mean they’ll run specifically up the middle or that they’ll run a certain amount of run plays or ?

    1. I expect the Rams to have a run-heavy game plan. If they run more than 30 times they might win.

  2. We have to win today with Arizona winning and Seattle just has to show up for a win. And better be healthy for next week, the Aints are running high,at home also 10 days off between games. IMO these next 2 games are going to tell if we go to the playoffs or not.

    1. 1-1-1. They beat the Browns after the Bye in 2011, tied the Rams after the Bye in 2012 and lost to the Panthers after the Bye last year.

  3. GEEZ I thought we were going to get some help from Dallas. Nope, I might as well stop asking. Arizona is rolling.
