This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 15 game against the Buccaneers. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room.
10:02 The 49ers win the toss and defer.
10:04 Bobby Rainey gains three yards up the middle on first down and Glenn Dorsey is down.
10:05 Now he’s walking off the field.
10:07 The Bucs go three-and-out. NaVorro Bowman knocks away a pass on second down, and Donte Whitner hits Brian Leonard and breaks up a first-down catch on third down. Jim Harbaugh is challenging because he thinks Leonard caught the ball and fumbled.
10:10 The refs confirm their initial ruling — incomplete pass. It seems like Whitner knocked the ball out as Leonard’s second foot came down.
10:10 The Bucs punt. LaMichael James returns it 11 yards to the 49ers’ 38.
10:13 Colin Kaepernick calls timeout to avoid a Delay penalty on first-and-10 at the Bucs’ 35. The 49ers have just one more timeout this half.
10:16 Kaepernick is flagged for Delay of Game on third-and-three.
10:17 The Bucs blitz and Kaepernick scrambles for 17 yards and a first down. He stiff armed Johnthan Banks to the ground.
10:20 Kaepernick scrambles to the right, Crabtree jukes Banks in the end zone and Kaepernick hits Crabtree for a touchdown. 7-0 Niners. A few plays earlier, Kaepernick converted a third-and-three by rolling out, pump faking a throwing a dart to Bruce Miller on the sideline for a five-yard gain. Kaepernick was outstanding on that drive, except for the delay penalty and the timeout.
10:27 The Bucs go three-and-out again. Ahmad Brooks forces Glennon to roll to his left and throw the ball away on third down.
10:28 C.J. Spillman is flagged for holding during the punt return. The 49ers will start from their 26.
10:32 Now the Niners go three-and-out. Kaepernick calls an audible on first down and takes a sack. Celek makes an 8-yard catch on second down and then fumbles out of bounds. And then Vernon Davis gets tackled 2 yards short of the first down on third-and-7. Andy Lee punts. Bucs’ ball at their 30.
10:36 Ahmad Brooks jumps offside on third-and-4 to give the Bucs their first first down.
10:38 The Bucs get no more first downs. Glennon completes a 5-yard pass on third-and-7 and the Bucs punt and down the ball at the 49ers’ 15.
10:42 Hunter gains 15 yards on a sweep to the left side on first down and the first quarter ends.
