49ers @ Chargers preseason live blog: Third quarter

This is the live blog for the third quarter 49ers preseason game against the Chargers. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room.

8:42 The Chargers have the ball at their 24, and Brad Sorenson is their QB.

8:49 Cam Johnson beats Starks and forces Sorenson to rush his throw on third-and-11, and the pass falls incomplete. Johnson runs off the field, left arm hanging limp. It looks like he may have hurt his shoulder.

8:51 McCoy is still in the game.

8:57 McCoy completes his first two passes, two short passes to Jon Baldwin. On McCoy’s third attempt, he throws behind Baldwin, and the pass bounces off the receiver’s hands as he flails for the ball. The 49ers punt a few plays later.

8:58 Jewel Hampton is having a good game, better than any other 49ers’ running back. He’s gained 32 yards on 8 carries.

9:02 The Chargers go three-and-out. Will Tukuafu commits a neutral zone infraction on first down, but he makes up for it with a nice play on first-and-five, clogging up the running lane. Let’s see if B.J. Daniels replaces McCoy.

9:05 He does. Daniels is in the game.

9:07 He completes a five-yard pass to Chuck Jacobs on second-and-nine, and on third-and-four, Daniels scrambles for about four yards. Harbaugh is challenging the spot.

9:09 Daniels is a yard short. It’s fourth-and-one. Andy Lee time.

9:13 Michael Hill gashes the 49ers on back-to-back runs, but on the third play, Stupar tips Sorensen’s pass and Dahl picks it off. 49ers’ ball at the Chargers’ 24.

9:16 The 49ers go three-and-out. Hampton gains one yard on first down, Daniels throws the ball away on second down and Hampton drops a pass on third down. Dawson makes a 40-yard field goal. 20-6 49ers.

9:22 The Chargers go three-and-out. Brad Sorensen is wildy inaccurate on a couple of passes.

9:23 Cam Johnson blocks the punt and recovers it in the end zone for a touchdown. I think he’s going to make the team. 27-6 49ers.

9:26 Tramaine Brock undercuts an in route and picks off Sorensen, who isn’t very good. 49ers’ ball at the Chargers’ 35.

9:28 That’s the end of the third quarter.
