49ers @ Giants live blog: Third quarter

East Rutherford, NJ — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers’ Week 11 game against the Giants. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

11:39 Preston Parker returns the kick to the Giants’ 22-yard line.

11:41 Ray McDonald sacks Manning and forces him to fumble on second-and-7. The Giants recover for a 6-yard loss. Next play, Lynch beats the Giants’ backup right tackle and sacks Manning for a 9-yard loss. Perrish Cox returns the punt to the 49ers’ 41-yard line. The Giants’ starting right tackle, Justin Pugh, is out for the rest of the game with an injured quad.

11:46 On first-and-10 from the Giants’ 48, Crabtree catches a short slant. The Giants’ free safety takes a bad angle, overruns Crabtree, and Crabtree strolls down the middle of the field for a touchdown. 16-7 Niners. Shameful effort by the Giants. They don’t look like they want to be out there.

11:48 One play before Crabtree’s touchdown, Frank Gore gained 11 yards on a counter run to the right.

11:50 Parker returns the kick to the 49ers’ 41.

11:54 Manning throws into double coverage on third-and-7 from the 49ers’ 25, and Antoine Bethea almost picks him off.

11:55 John Brown makes a 43-yard field goal. The 49ers are flagged for running into the kicker, but the Giants decline the penalty. 16-10 Niners.

11:58 The Giants kick a surprise on-side kick. Bubba Ventrone recovers and then he fumbles, and then the Giants land on it. The officials rule it Giants’ ball. The 49ers are challenging.

12:01 The refs confirm their ruling. Giants’ ball at their 46-yard line.

12:04 On third-and-9, Manning overthrows his receiver by 10 yards and hits Eric Reid in the numbers. He runs the ball down to the Giants’ 26, but Aldon Smith is flagged for a block in the back, so the Niners start at their 33. El Foldo by the G-Men.

12:11 Kaepernick scrambles for 1 yard on third-and-6 from the Giants’ 34. Longsnapper Kyle Nelson throws a low snap to Andy Lee. He bobbles the ball, picks it up and throws it away. Giants’ ball at their 33. The Niners can’t pull away from a team that already folded. Amazing.

12:17 Manning completes a 6-and-a-half-yard pass to Beckham on third-and-7 near midfield. The Giants are challenging the spot of the ball.

12:19 Rueben Randle has cramps, but he’ll return.

12:20 The refs confirm their ruling and charge the Giants’ with their first timeout of the second half. Fourth-and-1 from the 43 and the Giants are going for it.

12:20 Manning hands off to Rashad Jennings. Antoine Bethea and Ray McDonald hit Jennings at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Bad play call. Obvious time for a QB sneak.

12:23 Kaepernick completes a 13-yard pass over the middle to Boldin and the third quarter ends.

  1. Not exactly a well-oiled machine. Oh well, we can play poorly and win against a team like the NYG, but this team has to step up quite a bit to become a significant factor for the offseason

  2. Nice hold by Andy Lee, another missed opportunity. Another game the Niners are dominating, yet are in position to lose. TD’s equal wins, FG”s equal loses.

  3. The only thing left for them to screw up on is the waterboy position. I wonder when he will screw up momentum for us. Smh

  4. I hate watching a close game where the defense has produced 3 turnovers. Its ridiculous that the offense is this inept with that much talent.
