49ers @ Packers wild card playoff live blog: First quarter

GREEN BAY — This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ wild card playoff game against the Packers. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

1:34 It’s 5 degrees with a negative 10 degree wind chill. By the end of the game, there will be a negative 20 degree wind chill.

1:39 The 49ers call heads, win the toss and defer.

1:42 Randall Cobb returns the kick to the Packers’ 26.

1:43 The Packers go three-and-out. Eddie Lacy gains one yards on first down, seven yards on second down and John Kuhn gains just one on third-and-two. Craig Dahl almost blocks the punt. LaMichael James returns it to the 49ers’ 27.

1:46 First play, Frank Gore gains 7. Next play, Kaepernick hits Crabtree, Morgan Burnett misses a tackle and Crabtree gains 13. Sam Shields is injured.

1:53 Kaepernick converts a third-and-9 with a 13-yard completion to Crabtree. Now it’s third-and-2 at the Packers’ 31 and Kaepernick calls timeout to avoid a Delay penalty.

1:54 Kaepernick loses four yards but the 49ers go for it on fourth-and-6 and Kaepernick hits Crabtree for 31 on a corner route. First and goal at the 4.

1:56 The 49ers follow that up with another timeout to avoid a Delay.

1:59 The 49ers can’t punch it in. Kaepernick almost gets picked in the end zone by Tramon Williams on first down. Kaepernick throws it away on second down. Kaepernick throws it up for Crabtree on third down and Davon House knocks the pass away. Phil Dawson makes the 22-yard field goal. 3-0 Niners.

2:00 Shields injured his knee and is questionable to return.

2:02 Cobb returns the kickoff to the Packers’ 26.

2:06 The Packers’ go three-and-out and lose six yards. Aldon Smith sacked Rodgers on second down when Rodgers play faked and tried to step up in the pocket. The Packers shank the punt. 49ers’ ball at the Packers’ 49.

2:16 On third-and-goal from the 6, Kaepernick throws to Crabtree again, and again House knocks it away. Dawson makes the 25-yard field goal and it’s 6-0 Niners with 2:17 left in the first quarter.

2:19 Cobb returns the kickoff to the Packers’ 24.

2:20 Rodgers holds on to the ball forever on first down, Brooks hits him and Rodgers fumbles. T.J. Lang recovers. Loss of five.

2:21 The 49ers’ pass rush blows up a screen pass on second down. Third-and-15.

2:22 Lacy gains three yards on a draw and the Packers have to punt. Packers’ fan are booing. Their team hasn’t gained a first down and Rodgers hasn’t completed a pass.

2:22 James returns the punt 10 yards to the 49ers’ 41.

2:25 Kaepernick scrambles up the middle for 8 yards on first down and the first quarter ends.
