49ers @ Packers wild card playoff live blog: Second quarter

GREEN BAY — This is the live blog for the second quarter of the 49ers’ wild card playoff game against the Packers. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

2:30 Tramon Williams picks off Kaepernick near the Packers’ end zone and runs it back to the Packers’ 30 before lowering his shoulder and colliding with Kaepernick. Kaepernick was throwing to Davis on a corner route and Williams out-jumped Davis for the pass.

2:41 From the 49ers’ 5 yard line, Rodgers scrambles to the right and hits Jordy Nelson in the end zone. Nelson beat Brock. 7-6 Packers. They used a hurry-up no-huddle offense on that drive and had success. That was a 14-play, 70-yard drive.

2:44 James returns the kick to the 49ers’ 33.

2:48 Thanks to a great block by Gore, Kaepernick scrambles 42 yards to the Packers’ 13.

2:49 From the pistol, Gore runs up the middle 10 yards for a touchdown. 13-7 Niners with 2:48 left in the first half.

2:53 Cobb returns the kick to the Packers’ 24.

2:55 Rodgers scrambles for 9 yards on second-and-7. Two-minute warning. The Packers’ face first-and-10 at their 36.

2:59 Rodgers throws a pick but Brooks was offside. Next play, Rodgers hits Nelson for 17. Next play, Rodgers hits Lacy for three and the Packers take their first timeout with 1:09 left.

3:01 Next play, Rodgers calls timeout to avoid a Delay. Hard to fathom that one. It came after a timeout, and the Packers got to the line of scrimmage with more than 20 seconds on the play clock.

3:04 Rodgers completes an 11-yard pass to Nelson but doesn’t call a timeout. He tries to run another play and it’s an incomplete pass leaving four seconds on the clock. Poor clock management by the Packers. They’ll attempt a 35-yard field goal.

3:06 It’s good. 13-10 Niners at halftime.

3:07 The 49ers will get the ball first in the second half. The Packers haven’t forced the Niners to punt once. They’d almost be better off kicking onside kicks every time.

3:09 Rodgers’ first quarter passer rating: 39.6. Rodgers’ second quarter passer rating: 123.4.
