49ers @ Rams live blog: Pregame

This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers’ Week 6 road game against the Rams. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room.

4:02 Here are the 49ers’ inactives: WR Quinton Patton, CB Tramaine Brock, S L.J. McCray, C Marcus Martin, T Anthony Davis, DT Quinton Dial and DT Tank Carradine.

4:03 That means Vernon Davis will start.

4:08 Matchup to watch: RG Alex Boone vs. LDT Aaron Donald.  Boone is the 49ers’ lowest-rated pass blocker on Pro Football Focus. Donald is the Rams’ second-highest rated pass rusher behind Robert Quinn.

4:10 First-round pick Greg Robinson will start at left guard for the Rams. He will face Justin Smith.

4:12 Matchup to watch: RCB Chris Culliver vs. LWR Brian Quick. The Rams like to take deep shots and Quick is their best deep threat. He beat Culliver for a deep touchdown catch two years ago at Candlestick Park.

4:15 What do you think the biggest mismatch in this game is? I think it’s Vic Fangio versus Rams’ quarterback Austin Davis. Fangio will prey on Davis’ inexperience.

4:18 Trent Dilfer just said it looks like “the 49ers have complete solidarity.”

4:21 Ray Lewis just called Dilfer, “Trick.”

4:23 Rams’ wide receiver Chris Givens is not active.

4:29 Rams’ rookie running back Tre Mason is active.

4:40 Here’s a video of Austin Davis playing against the University of Houston in 2011.

4:45 Jon Gruden sees a lot of similarities between Austin Davis and Drew Brees.

4:45 Daniel Jeremiah says Davis modeled his game after Brees.

4:48 Ian Rapoport says Frank Gore’s roster spot “was in jeopardy” this offseason.

5:06 According to Cam Inman, Trent Baalke denies NFL Network’s report that Gore’s roster spot was in jeopardy this offseason.

5:14 Mike Ditka and Keyshawn Johnson pick the Rams to win.

    1. I trust Fangio and the results he gets. If Fangio doesn’t think he’s ready then he’s not. He starting Lynch and Ward and E Reid last year so I definitely think its Tank/Baalke.

  1. VD should have a big day along with Gore/Hyde. Don’t get too tricky in the Red Zone and just execute the bread and butter for the TD. Go Forty Niners!

  2. Dominate the game at the line of scrimmage. Pound the rock, get physical and let the Rams know they are playing with the big boys now.

  3. Hey quick question. Many people are saying we should draft a QB to develop. Being the FSU fan I am, I love/hate Jameis Winston. Kid is Extremely immature. But from a football sense, he’s good – real good. The kids draft stock, in my opinion, is slipping. He makes bonehead move after bonehead move. If he’s available early second rd, do we draft him?

    1. Absolutely!
      .
We definiaetly need more players with off-the-field troubles on this team.
      .
You can never have enough of those guys.

    2. Winston’s stock will never drop that far unless he hits a woman. He’ll be drafted top 10 next year easily.

  4. As much as I love kaps potential, Winston would be the perfect insurance to have if we let him sit for two years while kap continues to show if he can progress to that elite level. With Winston sitting for 2 years he can learn from the vets and he’ll be two years wiser. worst case scenario he never plays but the potential is there to trade for a high draft pick. All that being said this guy, regardless of his off the field antics, is still a top 5 talent that teams like Oakland and the jets won’t pass up.

    1. After Carr’s showing yesterday and his anticipated development, why would the Raiders go after another QB that high in the draft? They have so many other needs long before a second QB gets on the field.

  5. That’s Brooks 6th or 7th “Hands To The Face” penalty…

    Wake Up Brooks!

    You’re killing your Team
