49ers @ Rams live blog: Third quarter

This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers Week 13 game against the Rams in St. Louis. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room.

11:35 The 49ers get the ball first. They start at their 20 yard line.

11:37 Kaepernick scrambles for six yards on first down, Gore gains one yard on second down, and on third and three, Kaepernick fires to Crabtree, but Crabtree doesn’t turn his head quickly enough, so the pass falls incomplete. The 49ers go three and out and punt. The Rams take over at their 22 yard line.

11:39 Greg Roman is getting outcoached by Jeff Roman. It seems Fisher knows Romans tendencies. The Rams look ready for everything Roman calls.

11:45 The Rams drive down to the 49ers’ 36, and on third and nine Bradford dumps it off to Jackson, who breaks a Goldson tackle and picks up 22 yards.

11:48 On third and 8 from the 11, Bradford targets Rogers in the slot, and hits Pettis for a 7 yard gain. The Rams want to go for it on fourth and 1 from the 4. They call timeout.

11:51 Bradford throws it up to Pettis in the end zone and Tarell Brown knocks the pass away. Great play. 49ers take over on down at their four yard line.

11:56 Greg Roman calls two boring runs up the middle on first and second down and go backward. On third down, Kaepernick bails out Roman by throwing a 14-yard dart to Manningham to convert. Next play, Roman calls a play action pass and the Rams see it coming. They blitz, the O-line doesn’t pick it up, Kaepernick scrambles away and tries to throw the ball away from the end zone, but the pass doesn’t make it back to the line of scrimmage. Safety 7-2. Mike Perreira says the refs made the incorrect call – it should not have been a safety. Either way, it’s Rams ball.

12:01 Aldon Smith is flagged for a holding on the first play, but the 49ers force the Rams to go three-and-out after that. The Rams pin the punt at the 1 yard line.

12:07 Kaepernick gets the 49ers out of their own end zone with two beautiful passes to Crabtree – the first for 10 yards on a slant, the second for 22 yards on a an out route. Kaepernick had to put touch on the long out because there was a defender in front of Crabtree. Two big throws to end the third quarter.
