49ers rookie lineman JP Flynn inspired by mother’s cancer fight

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

— Second Corinthians 15, verse 7.

JP Flynn sits at his locker and armors himself for practice. Flynn, a rookie offensive lineman on the 49ers’ practice squad, wraps his wrist with black adhesive tape and a pink, rubber wristband. As he does this, he reveals a tattoo of that bible verse on his right arm. The verse sits underneath a tattoo of a pink ribbon and the word “Survivor.”

In 2017, Hyde is averaging 5.2 yards per carry and has found the end zone twice.

Hyde has four runs of 15 or more yards, which is tied for third in the league among running backs, according to Pro Football Focus. His 126 yards during those runs ranks second in the league.

“If you look at his last nine games going back to last year…144 carries for 798 yards,” our own Al Sacco stated this past week on the latest No Huddle podcast, “5.5 yards per carry. Other than this past week, those other eight games, it’s not like he had a prolific passing attack to help him. He looks comfortable in this offense and there were a lot of questions if he would or would not. And he does.

  2. Hyde doing his typical slide towards IR. Seeing it early this year. If 9ers look bad today Hyde will do his typical, hide out on IR for a few games see if it looks favorable for him to return. Every year this is Hyde. He can’t be counted on to shoulder the load, “Mr. Hyde, you’re no Frank Gore”.

  3. We may bicker and quibble on this site, but stories like this puts it all in perspective, about what really matters.

If letting Flynn get in on a few snaps would help cheer up his mother, I hope the Niners will let him play.
    .
Then, even these possible losses will take on new meaning.

  4. Listened to MM interview KS. He lobbed softballs and spoke in vapid generalizations with trite cliches.
    .
I hope he gets at least a little more edgy, so I do not fall asleep with all the saccharine platitudes.
    .
This team is 0-3. I want them talking about deficiencies, and how to improve.

  5. Great story on JP Flynn. JP played here for Montana State in Bozeman, MT. He is a class act all the way around and an outstanding OL. His mother and family are in our thoughts and prayers. SF is lucky to have him. He is going to be a good one!!
