NEW ORLEANS — This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 11 game against the Saints. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
1:23 The 49ers lose the toss. The Saints defer to the second half.
1:27 The 49ers waste their first timeout on the third play of the game. It’s third-and-9. Roman called a deep pass to Manningham down the left sideline on the first play of the game. Aw, shoot. It was incomplete.
1:28 Roman calls a short pass to Vernon Davis on third-and-9. Kaepernick completes it to Davis for 5 yards. Three-and-out. Andy Lee punts. Saints’ ball at their 24.
1:33 The Saints go five-and-out after one first down catch by Jimmy Graham. The Saints punt. The Saints run into LaMichael James and that is a penalty. The 49ers start at their 31.
1:36 Frank Gore gains no yards on a power off tackle run to the right side on first down. Roman rolls out Kaepernick on second down and he hits Gore for six yards. Kaepernick drops straight back on third-and-4 and gets his pass batted down. Andy Lee punts. Sproles makes a fair catch at the Saints’ 9 yard line.
1:40 The Saints go three-and-out. Lance Moore drops a first-down catch on third-and-2. The Saints punt. James returns it to the 49ers’ 42.
1:45 The 49ers go three-and-out and gain no yards. Keenan Lewis knocks away a pass to Boldin on first down. Kaepernick gets hit in the pocket on second down – no roll out – and Jabari Greer breaks up a deep pass to Jon Baldwin in third-and-10. It looks like Greer hyper-extended his knee.
1:47 The 49ers have zero first downs so far.
1:48 Greer just got carted off the field. His leg is in an air cast.
1:49 Great punt by Andy Lee. Dan Skuta saves it from bouncing into the end zone and Kassim Osgood downs it at the Saints’ 3.
1:57 Brees completes a 44-yard pass to Robert Meachem to put the Saints at the 49ers’ 25. Whitner missed a tackle on that play. Next play, Brees completes a short pass to Sproles for 8 yards, but Harbaugh is challenging. He says Brees was past the line of scrimmage when he threw the ball to Sproles.
2:00 The refs confirm their ruling and the 49ers lose a challenge. They have one more timeout in the first half.
2:04 That’s a 97-yard touchdown drive by the Saints. The TD pass was a 3-yarder to tight end Josh Hill. 7-0 Saints with 44 seconds left in the first quarter. The Saints are averaging 6 yards per carry. The 49ers have 1 rushing yard on 2 carries.
