49ers @ Seahawks live blog: First quarter

SEATTLE, Wa. — This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 15 game against the Seahawks. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

1:22 The Seahawks win the toss and defer.

1:25 The Seahwaks tackle Bruce Ellington at the 49ers’ 17 on the opening kickoff.

1:41 K. J. Wright sacks Colin Kaepernick on third-and-10 from the Seahawks’ 45.  Seahawks ball at their 10 after the punt.

1:32 Carlos Hyde and Frank Gore gained 43 yards on back-to-back read-option carries so, of course, Greg Roman follows up with three-straight pass plays. Result: two incompletions and a sack.

1:38 Ahmad Brooks sacks Russell Wilson on third-and-10 from the Seahawks’ 22. Aldon Smith lined up at defensive tackle next to Brooks. Smith looped around to the Ray McDonald and Justin Smith and forced Wilson to step up into Brooks.

1:39 Ellington returns the punt 9 yards to the 49ers’ 31.

1:42 The Niners go three-and-out. Kaepernick throws a 7-yard grounder to Vernon Davis on third-and-9. Pass was tipped. Frank Gore lost two yards on a Weak G run to the left on second-and-7.

1:43 Kassim Osgood tackles Walters at the Seahawks’ 19.

1:51 The 49ers blitz two players on third-and-9 from the Seahawks’ 19, forcing Wilson to throw early and behind Tony Moeaki. Steven Hauschka makes a 38-yard field goal and the score is 3-0 Seattle. Eric Reid committed two unnecessary roughness penalties on that drive — hitting a player out of bounds, and hitting a defenseless receiver over the middle. Reid has not played well this season.

1:54 Ellington returns the kick to the 49ers’ 31, but Osgood is flagged for holding. First-and-10 at the 15.

2:01 Carlos Hyde gains 10 yards on a counter run to the left and the first quarter ends. First-and-10 from the Seahawks’ 20 when the second quarter begins.

    1. And what’s worse is that Kaep had a comfortable pocket and plenty of time to hit Davis. Ugh!

  1. #7 has to take off and run sooner. He waits for the pocket to completely collapse before he ties to run. That’s too late. Get out when you see the pressure like you used to.

      1. Run early and slow the pass rush Bay. Es scared to death anyway. Take off and stop sliding. Take the shot, it might wake him up. Stop playing scared!

      2. Oh look at Lame Bay playing QB coach. Stop with the fakeness guy, everyone in the room knows your weak game!

  2. Man, that stupid block in the back by Lloyd, then you have #7 missing VD wide open. Lead him up field with that throw. Don’t throw it out of bounce. Nobody was around him. He would of scored. I feel like this is gonna be a tough, frustrating game haha

  3. Hyde: needs a hole but can exploit one. Gore: doesnt need a true hole to rip off a big run – lets the blockers do their job while keeping his legs moving.

Vernon completely whiffs on the first run, btw. Trying to block a 350 lb DL with your hands only aint gonna work

  4. Nice run by Hyde. Rbs open put of Backfield. Kaeps gotta see that. Missing Vernon was a choke.

  5. kap just doesnt have that run ability he had last year and the year before. he makes no moves just slides down and takes the loss

    1. That’s how bad we missed Brooks. Harbaugh played college coach and benched him in the most important game of the year.

  6. Clearly the Niner coaches are not doing their job, because rushing Niners keep going for the Russell Wilson pump fake. You’re not going to bat down the pass, even if he throws it. And he suckers us and everyone else every time with that pump fake. you’d think we’d coach for that by now…

  7. You have to break down and be under control to sack wilson on a blitz. You can’t run at him full speed and out of control.

  8. Freakin penalties. We look like the Raiders. Penalty on every positive play on offense. Finally get a decent kickoff return and it comes back!

  9. Hyde just has the speed to get going. Gore cant. If he keeps running like this we need to feed him the ball more.

    1. To be fair Looney whiffed on his block on Williams and he got tacked in the backfield on the second drive and on another drive V Davis missed his block for a loss of three.

  10. They have to sit Gores slow ass down and stay with Hyde… Only chance they have of winning this game
