49ers @ Seahawks NFC Championship live blog: Second quarter

SEATTLE — This is the live blog for the second quarter of the NFC Championship between the 49ers and Seahawks. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

4:14 James drops the punt and Ricardo Lockette annihilates him. Darryl Morris recovers the ball at the 49ers’ 14 and James is still down. He should have called for a fair catch.

4:17 Now James is walking slowly off the field.

4:21 On first-and-10 from the 49ers 32, Kaepernick scrambles for 58 yards. First and goal at the 10.

4:24 On third-and-goal from the 1, Dixon gets the handoff, jumps over the pile and scores a touchdown. The refs are reviewing the play.

4:24 James has a neck injury and his return is questionable.

4:27 The refs reverse their ruling. Dixon was down at the one-half yard line. Fourth and goal. The 49ers are going for it.

4:28 Dixon gets the carry again, jumps over the pile again and scores. Mike Iupati is down.

4:29 This drive wouldn’t have happened if Richard Sherman hadn’t held Crabtree on third-and-9. It would have been three-and-out. Same story as Week 14 — stupid Seahawks penalties extending drives for the 49ers.

4:31 Iupati is limping off the field. Barely can put any weight on his left leg.

4:33 Dawson makes the extra point. 10-0 49ers with 10:03 left in the first half.

4:34 Baldwin returns the kickoff 24 yards to the 24.

4:38 On second-and-7 from the Seahawks 38, Wilson scrambles around for about 10 seconds and hits a wide open Baldwin deep for 51. First and 10 at the 11.

4:40 First play, empty backfield and Wilson gets sacked by Dan Skuta. Wilson can only do so much. Bevell is killing the Seahawks.

4:41 Wilson’s pass is incomplete on third-and-13 and the Seahawks have to attempt a 32-yard field goal. It’s good. 10-3 49ers.

4:44 Iupati has an ankle injury and is questionable. James is back. He watches the kickoff sail past the end zone.

4:45 Baldwin has a hip injury has a hip injury and is questionable.

4:49 The 49ers go three-and-out. Boldin drops a pass on first down. Kaepernick runs a keeper to the right and loses two yards on second down. And Kaepernick hits Patton for 2 yards on third down. On the punt, Osgood tackles Tate at the Seahawks’ 37.

4:51 The 49ers’ only offense is Kaepernick running. He has completed 3 passes for 17 yards.

4:55 Iupati will not return due to his ankle injury/

4:56 It’s the two-minute warning. The Seahawks have handed the ball off to Lynch every play this drive. He’s gained 17 yards on four carries. The Seahawks face third-and-3 from the 49ers’ 46 when play resumes.

4:58 Fangio calls a blitz and Kearse is flagged for a false start. What a horrendous penalty. Third-and-8.

4:59 Wilson hits Baldwin on a slant for 9 yards and a first down.

5:00 Aldon Smith sacks Wilson on second-and-7 for a one-yard loss. That’s the fourth sack on Wilson this half. Third-and-8.

5:01 Bevell’s play doesn’t work. Wilson has to scramble around and flip a pass to Zach Miller for two yards. Fourth-and-6 at the 49ers’ 38 with 27 seconds left. The Seahawks are going for it.

5:03 Wilson rolls right and passes to Tate and it’s incomplete. Carlos Rogers is flagged for a personal foul for a late hit out of bounds, although it was more of a light shove. 49ers ball at their 23 with 20 seconds left.

5:05 The 49ers take a knee and the half ends. The 49ers lead 10-3.
