  1. As per Niners Nation:

Casey (5-11, 190) originally entered the NFL on May 13, 2013, as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders. He spent training camp with the Raiders before being signed to the team’s practice squad on September 2, 2013, where he spent the remainder of the season. Casey was released by Oakland on August 30, 2014.

A 23-year-old native of Crosby, TX, Casey attended Baylor University where he appeared in 39 games and recorded 161 tackles and three interceptions. He earned All-Big 12 Freshman honors in 2009 and appeared in the 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game, as a senior.

Fullington (6-5, 300) signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2014. Following training camp, he was released by the Packers on August 30.

A 24-year-old native of Belfair, WA, Fullington attended Washington State where he tied a program-record with 43 consecutive starts. As a senior, he earned Pac-12 All-Academic Second-Team honors and was presented WSU’s Mike Utley Award, given to the team’s offensive lineman of the year.

Gaskins (6-1, 238) originally signed with the Buffalo Bills on April 29, 2013 as an undrafted free agent. He spent training camp with the Bills, and was released on August 30, 2013. Gaskins was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad on October 8 and was later released on October 18. The New York Giants signed him to the team’s practice squad on December 17, where he spent the remainder of the season. He was released by the Giants on August 30, 2014.

A 24-year-old native of Burlington, NJ, Gaskins attended the University of Richmond where he totaled 605 rushing yards on 148 carries, as a senior. He finished his career second all-time in total rushing touchdowns (38) in school history. Gaskins earned First-Team All-Colonial Conference honors in 2010 and 2012.

    1. George,
Thanks for info. I would have preferred they give a flyer on Lache Seastrunk (another player from Baylor), but he would likely be a COP RB vs a SAK that they may have with Gaskins.

    1. Razor,
I watched some of his highlight video and I swear that I had a flash-back of the old 40-50’s football RB star Marion Motley (lol).
It looked like KGaskins was running in slow-motion. But he can catch and rack up yards after being hit.

      1. @AES
Hah! I see what you mean about Motley; especially the cutups from the muddy field!
Seeing size, power, good vision and the lateral agility to take advantage of the vision. Upright style and lack of burst acceleration may be why he’s plateaued at the Pro level, but some experience reduces the learning curve in pass pro. He has the size for pass pro (probably long arms too!) and the hands of a 3rd down back. Versatile; RB/FB/ probably could do some H-Back too.

  2. Well, if nothing else, at least I guessed the three positions they would use the three remaining PS slots on correctly…

  3. Gaskins should not surprise as the type of RB they signed to the PS. He’s versatile and provides backup at both RB and FB, in case of injury.

    1. Scooter,
Don’t they already have that in CHyde? Also, Trey Millard can provide that next year as well.

Another speed COP RB was my thinking as a PS signee, but perhaps there weren’t good pickings.

      1. No AES, Hyde is a RB, plain and simple. They wouldn’t use him as a FB. In Gaskins they get a RB/FB hybrid like Dixon that can fill in at FB if Miller goes down.

Millard can provide that next year, but not this year.

For a COP, in a pinch they can get Ellington more involved in the running game. And Hyde has shown in preseason he is more than capable of getting to the outside, as well as going through the middle.

        1. Scooter,
I got you. But I was thinking of Gaskins more in terms of having similar size to CHyde.
After watching tape on Gaskins he seems to fit the SAK position better. Of course he would need to be a willing and capable blocker.

But he may have an uphill climb because we may already have that type of player in Trey Millard when he’s ready next year.

      1. Hammer,
He will make a good tackling (pardon the remark) dummy because he has no speed to avoid tacklers.

  4. I remember Chance Casey at Crosby High School. He ran the ball extremely well and he was a good defensive back but he was an even better track athlete. I thought his future in college would be related to track but he really lit it up right away at Baylor on the football team. He turned into a very good DB. Not sure how he translates to the NFL but I’m glad the kid is getting a chance. He has a reputation as a great kid from a great family.
