49ers still need a deep-threat wide receiver

I like the Anquan Boldin trade for the 49ers. It’s a steep price to pay for his salary – $6 million in 2013 – but cheap in terms of draft picks – just a sixth rounder.

Yes, the 49ers virtually had nothing at wide receiver other than Michael Crabtree, and no guarantees that any of the also-rans and maybes at WR on the current roster could step in and contribute next fall. Other than the Niners, name a team coming off of a Super Bowl appearance to have only one legitimate WR on its roster.

My only worry is that Boldin, like Crabtree, is not a deep threat, although he definitely is a red zone factor.

Vernon Davis remains the one and only deep threat on the Niners.
