49ers v. Cardinals live blog: Second quarter

SAN FRANCISCO —  This is the live blog for the second quarter of the 49ers’ Week 6 game against the Cardinals. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

2:18 Kaepernick throws an interception in the end zone on second-and-goal from the three. The pass was tipped. He was trying to throw the ball to Bruce Miller. Cardinals’ ball at their 14-yard line. The 49ers are challenging the spot of the ball.

2:21 The 49ers’ win their challenge. Yeremiah Bell was down at the one-half yard line.

2:25 Palmer is flagged for a delay penalty on third-and-three and then he takes a safety-sack in the end zone on third-and-8. Corey Lemonier got him. 8-7 Niners. Palmer is responsible for all 8 points the 49ers have scored.

2:28 Anthony Dixon falls on the punt at the 49ers’ 29.

2:29 Gore gains 10 yards up the middle on first down and Kaepernick hits Davis deep down the middle on second down for a 61-yard touchdown. 15-7 49ers with 8:31 left in the half. Now Palmer is responsible for 15 49ers’ points.

2:35 First Palmer hits Rob Housler for a 12-yard gain. Then Palmer hits Brittan Golden deep for a 53-yard gain, Golden ran right by Carlos Rogers. And then Andre Ellington ran it in untouched from 15-yards out. Brock watched him trot in. Three plays. 80 yards. 15-14 49ers with 7:03 left in the half.

2:38 Kyle Williams returns the kick off to the 49ers’ 22.

2:43 Timeout Arizona. It’s third-and-15 for the 49ers at the Cardinals’ 38. Kaepernick completed a 28-yard pass to Vernon Davis. Gore lost five yards on a run out of the pistol formation two plays later.

2:44 Kaepernick throws it away to avoid a sack on third-and-long. Andy Lee will punt.

2:45 Peterson makes a fair catch at the Cardinals’ 7.

2:49 On third-and-five Palmer hits Ellington for a gain of five. Harbaugh is challenging the spot of the ball.

2:51 Harbaugh wins the challenge. Ellington was a half-yard short. The Cardinals have to punt.

2:52 Kyle Williams makes a fair catch at the 49ers’ 42.

2:54 Kaepernick completes an 11-yard pass to Miller and then a 12-yard pass to Davis and then it’s the 2-minute warning. First-and-10 at the Cardinals’ 35.

2:57 Davis lines up at flanker. Kaepernick throws a deep pass to him and he catches it in the end zone. 22-14 49ers. The Cardinals are letting one player beat them, two if you count Palmer.

3:02 The Cardinals go three-and-out again and leave the 49ers with 1:40 on the clock. Classic Palmer.

3:03 Williams returns the punt to the 49ers’ 27.

3:06 Kaepernick is moving the offense down the field easily and then he fumbles as he’s sliding around the pocket on second-and-1 at midfield. Cardinals’ ball at the 49ers’ 44.

3:06 On first down Palmer throws a deep touchdown to Michael Floyd but he’s called for interference because he pushed off.

3:10 The Cardinals go three-and-out and the 49ers call their second timeout with 35 seconds left in the half. The Cardinals have to punt.

3:11 Williams makes a fair catch at the 49ers’ 15.

3:12 Kaepernick takes a knee and the half is over.

3:12 Kaepernick has a 99.8 passer rating despite completing just two passes to wide receivers in the first half.

3:16 Frank Gore has 20 yards on 10 carries. 10 of those yards came on one carry. If you take away his four-best carries the past two games, he’s gained 23 yards on 23 carries.
