49ers v. Cardinals live blog: Third quarter

SAN FRANCISCO —  This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers’ Week 6 game against the Cardinals. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

3:25 The 49ers lead 22-14 and receive the ball first.

3:26 Kyle Williams fumbles the kick off in the end zone and falls on the ball at the 49ers’ 6 yard line.

3:28 Gore gains four yards on first down and three yards on second down. On third-and-three, Kaepernick keeps it on a zone-read from the pistol and gains just two yards. The 49ers punt. Cardinals ball at their 39.

3:36 Cardinals waste their first timeout of the half. Third-and-five at the 49ers’ 15. The Cardinals have run the ball down the 49ers’ throats on this drive. Mendenhall has three carries for 22 yards and Ellington has one carry for 14 yards.

3:39 Palmer hits Fitzgerald for five on third-and-five. Next play, Palmer hits Michael Floyd in the back left corner of the end zone. Touchdown. Brown got beaten on both passes. The Cardinals do not convert the two-point conversion. 22-20 49ers with 8:12 left in the third quarter. The Cardinals shouldn’t have gone for two. If the 49ers score a TD here, then the Cardinals will be down by 9 points, two scores.

3:42 Wilhoite has forearm and quad injuries and his return is questionable.

3:43 Williams returns the kickoff from the back of the end zone to the 49ers’ 26.

3:47 The 49ers’ go four-and-out. Gore gains 32 yards up the middle on first down. Kaepernick fumbles the snap on the next play. Two plays later, Vernon Davis commits the false start. Gore loses four yards on third-and-16. The 49ers punt. Cardinals’ ball at their 20.

3:55 The 49ers use their first timeout of the half. It’s third-and-one for the Cardinals at the 49ers’ 33.

3:57 Stepfan Taylor up the middle for two and a first down. Jerod-Eddie is injured on the play. He limps off the field. Dobbs is in the game for him.

4:00 Palmer completes a short pass to Fitzgerald on a drag route and Willis forces the fumble. Eric Reid recovers at the 49ers’ 11.

4:02 Kaepernick hits Boldin for 7 yards on first down. On second down Gore runs power off left tackle and gains just 1 yard and the third quarter ends.
