49ers v. Falcons live blog: Third quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers’ Week 16 game against the Falcons. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

7:12 LaMichael James gets tackled at the 49ers’ 17 on the kick return.

7:17 The 49ers go three-and-out, but Osi Umenyiora lined up in the neutral zone on third-and-10. Kaepernick completes a pass to Crabtree on third-and-5 for a 47 yard gain. The 49ers score a touchdown three plays later on a screen pass to Boldin. 10-10.

7:25 Bowman tackles Jackson for a 1-yard loss on third-and-1 at midfield. The Falcons punt it 53 yards into the end zone for a touchback.

7:35 Roman calls a run for Hunter up the middle on third-and-4 from the Falcons’ 14. Hunter gains just 2 yards. Roman goes as conservative as possible on that play call. Dawson makes the 30-yard attempt. 13-10 Niners. The 49ers moved the ball easily on that drive until the end. Crabtree had an 11-yard catch and a 22-yarder.

7:42 The Falcons gain two yards and go three-and-out. How is this game still close. The Falcons are a joke.

7:43 James returns the punt to the 49ers’ 39.

7:46 The 49ers’ face first-and-10 from the Falcons’ 20 yard line when the fourth quarter begins.
