49ers v. Texans live blog: Fourth quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ Week 5 game against the Texans. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

7:44 As I wrote on Sunday, the Texans have drop-back passing game is ineffective. Once you take away their run game and play action passes, they’re dead. The 49ers took that away right off the bat.

7:46 On third-and-five the Texans leave Vernon Davis completely uncovered – a questionable strategy – and he catches a 64-yard touchdown pass. 31-3 49ers.

7:49 See ya, Schaub. T.J. Yates is in the game at quarterback.

7:51 On second-and-eight, Tate busts through the line and fumbles. Whitner ripped it out. Kubiak has a look on his face like he doesn’t like what happened. 49ers’ ball at the Texans’ 8.

7:54 Gore gains four yards on first down, Dixon gains one yard on second down and one yard on third down. Dawson takes the field to attempt to 20-yard field goal. Big defensive stand by the Texans right there.

7:56 It’s good. 34-3 49ers with 10:46 left.

8:01 On first-and-10, Yates completes a five-yard pass to Foster and Demarcus Dobbs is injured.

8:01 Now he’s walking off the field.

8:04 Dobbs got the wind knocked out of him and his return is probable.

8:09 Wilhoite blitzes and sacks Yates on fourth-and-one. At least he didn’t throw a pick-six. Something to build on for the Texans. 49ers’ ball at their 44.

8:10 Colt McCoy is in the game at QB.

8:16 It’s the 2-minute warning. The 49ers have run the ball five straight times for 41 yards against this Texans defense which has given up. Gore hasn’t touched it once on this drive. I’m going down to the field. Back at your shortly.
