49ers v. Titans live blog: Pregame

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers’ Week 7 game against the Titans. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

10:53 Jake Locker will start at quarterback for the Titans. He missed the past two games but in the first four games he won three and lost one and committed zero turnovers. His passer rating was 99.0 and his yards-per-carry average was 6.5.

I still think the 49ers should win this game. Locker will be rusty. He’s more mobile than backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, so bootlegs could be effective for the Titans. But the Titans have to be concerned about how full speed Locker really is.

11:01 For the past 10 minutes Delanie Walker has been chatting on the field with Joe Staley, Adam Snyder, Bruce Miller and Kyle Williams.

11:36 Colin Kaepernick has been throwing passes to Anquan Boldin the past 20 minutes. Jake Locker and Ryan Fitzpatrick are not on the field and haven’t been for more than half an hour.

11:40 Now Kaepernick is shuffling sideways across the field. He’s been warming up since I arrived in the press box an hour ago. He has the most rigorous pre-game warm up routine of any football player I’ve ever seen.

11:43 Glenn Dorsey apparently is starting today.

11:44 The 49ers’ inactives are LaMichael James, Nnamdi Asomugha, McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Quinton Patton, Marlon Moore, Jermaine Cunningham and Joe Looney.

11:45 The Titans’ inactives are QB Rusty Smith, LB Zaviar Gooden, LB Moise Fokou, LB Patrick Bailey, C/G Rob Turner, T Byron Stingily and DE Derrick Morgan.

11:47 Lavar Edwards is starting for Derrick Morgan, Brian Schwenke is starting for Rob Turner and Colin McCarthy is starting for Moise Fokou.

11:48 Quinton Dial is active and wearing No.71.

11:50 Rob Bironas just made a 58-yard field goal in warmups.

12:06 Coty Sensabaugh has been the Titans’ slot cornerback this season. Quarterbacks have a 108.9 passer rating when challenging Sensabaugh in the slot this season. If he can’t handle Boldin, it will be interesting to see if the Titans move Alterraun Verner or Jason McCourty to the slot when Boldin lines up there.

12:11 Locker is throwing passes to Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is throwing passes to a coach who is handing the ball to Locker, meaning Locker’s hands and fingers have value and Fitzpatrick’s don’t.

12:15 The 49ers’ running backs all headbutt each other after warmups.

12:25 The 49ers’ inactives and practice squad players on the field or on the sideline but I don’t see LaMichael James anywhere. I’ll keep you posted.

  1. This is one of those games that could go either way if you’re not well focused. Hopefully the guys come balling with a chip on their shoulder today.

    1. I’m a little nervous. Titans have a good defense. And a real good CB, Boldin might get shut down today. Niners front seven is pretty banged up. Titans like to run the ball on the nickel, and we have been susceptible to that. The Titans win the turn over battle more often than not. This could be a lot closer than anyone thinks.
