SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 2 game against the Bears. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
5:26 The 49ers win the toss and defer. The Bears will receive the opening kickoff.
5:31 The Bears are flagged for holding. They start at their 7 yard line.
5:34 Bears gain two yards and go three-and-out and Aaron Lynch blocks the punt. 49ers’ ball at the Bears’ 8.
5:37 Colin Kaepernick completes a pass to Michael Crabtree in the front-right corner of the end zone on third-and-goal from the three. 7-0 Niners. The refs are reviewing the catch.
5:40 Refs confirm that it is a touchdown. Kaepernick threw a line drive up high. Crabtree reached up and grabbed it.
5:42 Touchback. Bears start at their 20.
5:45 The Bears gain 16 yards and punt. Brandon Marshall dropped a pass. The Bears’ offense looks timid. 49ers’ ball at their 19.
5:50 Alex Boone is the starting right guard by the way.
5:52 Kaepernick leads Stevie Johnson too far and Charles Tillman picks off the pass. The refs are reviewing the interception. Bears’ ball at their 36 if the pick stands.
5:54 The 49ers’ offense and the Bears’ defense is on the field. Seems both teams expect the refs to overturn the call.
5:55 Officials rule that the ball hit the ground and was incomplete. The Bears decline a 10-yard pass interference penalty on Stevie Johnson. Third and ten.
5:57 Joe Staley is flagged for holding, negating a 10-yard scramble by Kaepernick. Third and 20.

5:59 Kyle Fuller is flagged for holding 30 yards away from the play. Automatic first down at the 49ers’ 46.
5:59 Kaepernick play fakes, rolls left and throws behind a wide open Vance McDonald. Second and 10.
6:00 Kaepernick scrambles and throws a pass to Boldin’s ankles and he drops it. Third and 10.
6:01 The Bears leave Vernon Davis open in the middle of the field and Kaepernick hits him for 14 and a first down.
6:06 Jonathan Martin is flagged for a false start on third-and-five from the Bears’ nine. Next play, the 49ers call timeout before the play clock expires. Third and 10 from the 14.
6:08 Kaepernick fires a short pass high to Hyde. He catches it and gains five yards. No attempt to throw the ball into the end zone. Dawson makes the short field goal and it’s 10 zip.
6:11 L.J. McCray decks a Bear from behind as Senorise Perry kneels the ball in the end zone for a touchback. 15 yard penalty. Bears’ ball at their 35.
6:17 The first quarter ends. The Bears face third and 2 at the 49ers’ 48 yard line when the second quarter begins. The Bears gained 12 yards on this drive. The 49ers gifted them a first down when Jimmie Ward committed an illegal hands to the face penalty against Santonio Holmes.
Lets go D
Nice 1st series on defense!
Lynchmob!!!!!!!!
Lynch mob!!!!
Holy crap 23J! Same thought!!
Great play by Lynch!
CRAB!!!!
good hands, Crabs
That #15 is pretty good ;)
the “maintain control to the ground…and then until you finish your endzone dance” rule is simply idiotic
Crabtree should not have been holding that ball with one hand after the catch! This might be incomplete!
Talk about home field advantage, thank you time keeper!
All those zebras and none are watching the clock??? FIRE GOODELL!!! ;)
Kap had 2 high throws. He’s amped. Gotta settle down.
Got a break on that one.
GREAT START
I thought the rule use to be out the back of the endzone is a safety. If you muff the kickoff like that and it goes out the back of the endzone, it should be a safety
Sounds louder than the stick on tv or do I have selective hearing?
I think it is louder too.
Good job DDDD!
HoferFans boy Josh Morgan inactive tonight and KC loses again……Poor Hof
Did the Bears have a running play in that series?
Old man Boldin still dominating, love it
rare drop for Boldin
Dang it! Defense needs to come up big here!
No pick….Easy call
No catch on the pick!
should overturn ..
CK was staring at the WR the whole time on that pick.
Nice! I missed that the first time around!
Ball was tipped how is that past interference
We’re getting lots of home cooking tonite!
Martin smart to jump when the defender comes offsides!
Disagree. That was a free play
Could they throw any more flags in this game? At least this one’s in our favor…
These flags are ridiculous!
omg VM …
How can you blame VM for not catching that horrible throw on a simple bootleg??????????
I agree. Bad throw by Kap. Ahead not behind
Sloppy. This “drive” is sloppy, and our play is sloppy.
Vance that might be last pass thrown to you tonight
Not a good decision by you to say that. It was a horrible throw that was behind him and turned him around.
That’s what CK does. He won’t go back to him
Another drop…..VMac…..C’mon man!!
do you honestly know what a drop is???????
Yes… That ball should have been caught by vance
Side note- Charger players say Richard Sherman was exposed today! Sherman refused to talk to the media after the game! Lol
Sherman not talk? Should make San Diego the team of the weak just for shutting his fat trap up!!
Lol… of course he is not talking. He complained last week for not contributing to their win and when Rivers went at him 4 times he couldn’t stop any of those 4 passes that went his way.
Another drop Boldin…..what the?
In all fairness, that would have been a very tough catch. Throw needed to be better.
Kaepernick has not been very accurate. He has had open receivers but hes constantly throwing it high or behind them.
someone has to clean up that pile – seems like 7 Bears took a shot at VD
Kap is not on target tonight
Hasn’t been perfect but 3 of the incompletions could be seen as dropped.
A flag every play!!! Let them play (bad news bears lol)
Greg Roman callin a great game so far
All the flags really ruin the flow of the game. This is tough to watch.
Suede – I agree with every post of yours now…..You’re alright man…..Preach it Suede!!
Suede,
I noticed that today on the Seattle game. After every play you look at the top of the screen for the yellow flag icon.
Belly laugh
I didn’t notice the flags- I think I was blinded by watching Sherman get exposed over and over again by Rivers.
I am not a fan of the “points of emphasis”.
That had to be one of the uglier field goal drives I’ve seen. Hope they can clean things up.
Lucky Kap wasn’t injured on that play with Allen rolling up on his legs and the other player taking him up top. If that was on Tom Brady or Manning Roger Goodell would have run on the field to throw a flag.
You are so right
Lol. That was good
Goodell would have thrown a flag from his suite.
why is there so much complaining here??? The team is moving the ball and doing a darn good job. Sure some throws could be better but he isn’t getting time to throw. Give me a break.
Matt – Just a couple KC fans bro ;)
Because the bears are selling out to stop the run and If Kap was throwing accurate passes they should be able to get some big plays out of it. Instead he has been throwing bad passes that have led to no yac.
Kaepernick has pressure in his face each play because the bears are doing exactly what you posted. He’s done a heck of a job getting through reads compared to last season. It is week 2, not the second week of the playoffs. I am super stoked by what I see.
Stupid play on McRae. The penalties are not good
Dumb penalty
I’m seeing a different game apparently. I am seeing Kaepenick go through his reads with constant pressure in his face. You all want everything perfect week 2. That’s unrealistic.
I have no complaints with how this team is playing.
wow was that a read option by cutler!
Looking to get back to our meat and potatoes
another flag!!!
Flag flag flag…this is grotesque!! pathetic zebras
gifted wrap a first down
D is looking good. Just have to avoid penalties.
Tighten up! !
we need a pick 6 right now to set the tone.
Waaay too much time for Cutler!
Bennett is a tough cover for Willis.
I think Harbaugh finally win a challenge here
I hope so but it appeared he was in and then held on. I hope they overturn
Man that was a great catch by bennett
Harbaugh is gonna lose another challenge…. who is the one who is watching tv telling harbaugh to challenge these??? They should find someone that isn’t blind to do that job- with two eyes preferably.
Sorry suede you wrong!
apparently I am going to get my eyes checked tomorrow… I am blind.
I think he only had one foot in after gaining control of the ball.
Son of a bitch, Harbaugh gets a challenge right!!!!!!!
Just like the Megatron td that was overturned a few years ago. Anyone remember it?
Wow, Prime time called it!
That was a horrible spot
A little to conservative.
We get to watch the Refs tonight.
That Verizon commercial shows a jets football on the picnic table while the fan is wearing a patriots jersey…Whoops…That’s what happens when nonfans make football commercials.
The only thing bad about this game are the announcers
I’ve always like Michaels…Collinsworthless on the other hand, not so much.
oh my god!!!! we got lucky
Cowboy! And Lynch had big pressure also and drew a holding call.
ZERO pass rush on this team , none… Lemonier is an absolute stiff, go with Lynch, can’t be worse than him
Time for Tank too.
That’s what happens when you stare a receiver down
That one’s not getting overturned…crap!
Who said Patrick Willis lost a step?
Good defensive series!
Flag on a return, no way….shocking.
FlagFest.
This is atrocious.
Man we can not allow Colin go wild with all these run plays! He will get hurt
Too many turn overs. This is just ridiculous. THe call on Bo was complete bs
Get realistic Enjoy the game All youre doing is complaining. Is that the premise of Chicago residents? No wonder the murder rate is so high. You all have nothing to live for
The team is having fun. They are looking good. These turnovers don’t bother me at all. They are playing aggressively. That’s what we’ve all called for each year. This team is just going to get even better and even scarier as the weeks go on!
Where Are The Wham/ Trap plays?
The sky is falling in this blog. The team is moving the ball at will. Having fun and all anyone here is doing is crying
wohoo Gore, but I swear I heard Kaepernick yelling GORE GORE before the play. LOL
Frank GORE is a stud. Regardless of what we hear about him on this blog this man is a hall of famer
Well said Chicago! The guy is all heart and still productive!
i hope we don’t go back to the prevent defense. Lets smack down Cutler
Wilhoite is playing well
Yes he is holding his own
Roman is killing me with this play calling.
How about blitzing up the middle
