49ers vs. Cardinals live blog: Third quarter

SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers’ irrelevant Week 17 game against the Cardinals. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

3:09 Tony Jerod-Eddie returns the kickoff to the Niners’ 26.

3:13 Alfonso Smith drops a screen pass on third-and-13 from the Niners’ 39. Andy Lee’s punt bounces to the Cardinals’ 13.

3:27 Ryan Lindley throws a pick right to Chris Culliver on third-and-6 from the Niners’ 47. Looks like Lindley expected John Brown to cut in and Brown kept running deep. Niners’ ball at their 18 after an illegal block by Dontae Johnson.

3:34 Kaepernick throws a touchdown pass to Boldin on third-and-goal from the 9, but Marcus Martin is flagged for a chop block. Rough rookie season for the third-round pick. Third-and-goal from the 24.

3:36 Next play, Tommy Kelly is flagged for illegal hands to the face. Automatic first down.

3:38 On first-and-goal from the 3, Harbaugh calls timeout before Alfonso Smith scores a touchdown. Good timeout, Jim.

3:40 Kaepernick play fakes, rolls right and hits a wide open Bruce Miller in the back right corner of the end zone. 20-17 Niners.

3:44 Ted Ginn trips on the grass and falls down at the Cardinals’ 15 on the kick return.

3:45 Wilhoite tackles Marion Grice for a three-yard loss on first down, and the third quarter ends.

  1. Officials suck… Kaep get a girlfriend so you can learn about soft touch… I mean really a bullet pass on a screen play. We can’t blame Roman for that!

    1. It’s crazy when an offensive line gets a little healthier and the coach calls a good game what a different QB we have..Figures!

  2. I’m watching the Seattle game and the clock seems to be skipping seconds winding down faster than normal, but it didn’t matter because the Lambs fumbled!
