49ers vs. Colts live blog: First quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 3 game against the Colts. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

1:23 The Colts lose the toss and the 49ers defer.

1:25 Touchback. Colts start at their 20.

1:32 Trent Richardson’s first touch is a TD. He runs in from a yard out. 7-0 Colts. They had no problem moving the ball on their first drive. The 49ers didn’t force the Colts into one third down. Donte Whitner was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Bradshaw and Tarell Brown was flagged for pass interference on T.Y. Hilton.

1:35 On the kickoff Hunter takes the ball out from deep in the end zone and gets tackled at the SF 13. Bad decision by Hunter.

1:38 The 49ers go three-and-out. Gore gains seven yards up the middle on first down, Kaepernick throws a horrible pass on second down and Kendall Hunter gains two yards on third-and-three. Andy Lee punts. Colts’ ball at their 31.

1:43 Now the Colts go three-and-out. They do not block Ahmad Brooks on third down and he hits Luck as he throws, forcing a bad pass. They did not run on that series. The Colts down the punt at the 49ers’ 9 yard line.

1:46 Hunter is the huddle, not Gore.

1:52 Kendall Hunter scores a touchdown on a 13-yard draw. 7-7. The 49ers’ offensive line dominated that drive, creating huge holes for Hunter and Gore. Gore gained 54 yards on three carries. All of the 49ers’ good runs were too the right.

1:57 The Colts go three-and-out again. Richardson goes nowhere on first down, Willis blitzes and hits Luck on second down and Justin Smith sacks Luck on third down. Kyle Williams returns the punt to midfield.

2:00 Now the 49ers go three-and-out. Gore gains five on first down, one on second down and Kaepernick throws behind Kyle Williams on third down but he should have caught it. Lee punts. Hilton makes the fair catch at the Colts’ 20.

2:03 The Colts come out rushing and Bradshaw gains 4 then 13 then 6 and the quarter ends.
