49ers vs. Vikings preseason live blog: Third quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers’ preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

6:41 The 49ers receive the ball first.

6:41 McCoy’s back in. The 49ers really want to pump up his trade value apparently.

6:47 Vance McDonald hurdles a defender and gains 15 yards on a drag route. Later, Baldwin catches a pass from McCoy on a slant. The pass was low and behind Baldwin, but he caught it anyway. Then Kenny Wiggins committed back-to-back holding penalties on Jared Allen. And LaMichael James just managed to lose seven yards on one carry. The Vikings’ stud DT Kevin Williams got injured on the play. Why was in the game in the third quarter?

7:02 Ponder leads a 13-play touchdown drive against the 49ers’ second-team defense. On third and goal from the three, Ponder floated a pass to Joe Webb and he caught it in the end zone in front of Perrish Cox, who dragged Webb down by the facemask for a 15-yard penalty. 20-14 Niners. Tramaine Brock committed a pass interference penalty on the drive, and Nick Moody was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit.

7:05 McCoy is back in the game. The 49ers could play him all night and I doubt any NFL would want to trade for him.

7:16 McCoy drives the 49ers’ offense to the Vikings’ four yard line against the Vikings’ second-team defense. Jon Baldwin caught a 19-yard pass on the drive.
