49ers say they’re getting ripped

Don’t how much of it is lip service, but the 49ers have been talking up Duane Carlisle’s offseason conditioning program.

Tackle Joe Staley, writing a journal for 49ers.com, had this to say:

“All of us in the locker room are busting our tails right now. This is the hardest, most exciting offseason program I’ve ever been a part of.

Myself personally, I’ve already set personal bests in everything. I’m getting so strong right now. I’m squatting higher than ever before, and it’s like that all across the board in the weight room. My body fat is down, and I’m feeling the best I’ve felt. It’s just exciting to see all the results paying off right now in the offseason program. My knee feels great, and I’m really excited about how everything is going.

“I’ve been so tired after the workouts (I think I lost five pounds the other day from one alone) that I’ve just been lounging around afterwards.”

Also on the team web site, big tackle Alex Boone hosts a video journal that promises to be a recurring feature. In the first installment, he and T/G Adam Snyder, among other Niners, discuss the tough workouts they’ve been subjected to – core exercises, mobility work, running strides, etc.

I’m sure every offseason feels like the toughest ever to an NFL player. But is there something more at work here? I hope to find out next week when the 49ers hold consecutive OTA practices Monday through Thursday.

Warning: graphic shots of Snyder’s naked torso in a 195-degree sauna in the Boone video.
