5 matchups to watch: 2. Joe Staley vs. DeMarcus Ware

Joe Staley: 6’5”, 315 lbs., 27 years old.
DeMarcus Ware: 6’4”, 260 lbs., 29 years old.

The Cowboys tend to line up Ware on the weak side, which means he’ll probably rush from whichever side of the line that Vernon Davis doesn’t line up on this Sunday.

Since Vernon Davis usually lines up next to Anthony Davis on the right side of the line, left tackle Joe Staley will most likely matchup with Ware for the bulk of the snaps.

Staley will not be able to block Ware one-on-one. Who can? Ware is long and strong, and he’s the best pass rusher in football. Staley struggled blocking Aldon Smith in training camp, and while Smith also has long arms, he’s nowhere near the player Ware is right now.

So, look for the Niners to use two tight end sets often to help Staley block Wear. Delanie Walker and even the newly signed Justin Peelle should play and do a lot of blocking on the left side of the Niners offensive line this Sunday.

Matchup advantage: Cowboys
