Anquan Boldin wins Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

The San Francisco 49ers just announced that free agent wide receiver Anquan Boldin has won the 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. His charity foundation, Q81, will receive a $50,000 donation from the NFL Foundation and Nationwide.

Here’s a statement from Boldin: “I’m beyond humbled to be selected as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. I used to dream that I could play like Walter Payton when I was growing up, but he became even more of an inspiration to me as I learned about his legacy as a humanitarian. I commend the other 31 finalists throughout the National Football League who continue to use this platform to influence the lives of others in a positive way. May we continue to open our hearts and make an impact in our communities and throughout this world.”

And here’s a statement from team CEO Jed York: “Anquan Boldin is a tremendous example of a professional athlete who has used the platform the National Football League affords him to positively impact the lives of others. The diversity of his philanthropic efforts and the hands-on approach he takes to providing for those who cannot provide for themselves is widely respected throughout professional sports. Anquan has been a great ambassador for the San Francisco 49ers, and we congratulate him on being named this year’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.”

  1. Anyone who remembers this weeklong orgy of San Francisco Super Bowl spew can only marvel at how well-produced the whole thing has been. Sets at the Embarcadero and the Marina Green really showcase the city, and keeps the business side of the event separate at the stadium and hotels; so, the distance is actually a nonfactor.

  2. Baalke, here is your chance to retain veteran leadership. I hope Anquan can play 1 more season.

  3. Seb …

  5. The organization could use more of this uplifting news a worthy achievement. A great award for a great person and player. This should be the standard for the organization starting with the Yorks. It is nice to see a 49er getting positive strokes for once instead of jail time. Thank you Mr. Boldin.

  6. It hasn’t been decided yet. It is going to be announced right before the super bowl. Even if the decision was made yet, it wouldn’t be made public
