B.J. Daniels: “I’m just trying to pick up everything at a fast rate. You can’t redshirt.”

SANTA CLARA – B.J. Daniels spoke at his locker Tuesday afternoon. Here’s what he said.

Q: So, are you Russell Wilson this week?

DANIELS: (Laughs) I don’t know yet. I’m honestly not even sure yet.

Q: Were you Aaron Rodgers last week?

DANIELS: No, I was B.J. Daniels last week (more laughs).

Q: Do you think that that is a logical assignment for you to do your best Russell Wilson impersonation in practice this week?

DANIELS: I don’t know. I’m going to do whatever the coaches ask me to do. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just got done getting in some extra work with the young guys. Right now, I’m just trying to master this offense.

Q: What was your role during the Packers’ week?

DANIELS: Just helping out with the scout team. Still learning with the first-year offense. Trying to take mental reps and watch Kap do his thing and get ready for Green Bay.

ME: Do you have the playbook down pat yet, or how difficult is that process?

DANIELS: I’m just trying to pick up everything at a fast rate. You can’t redshirt. You have to hurry up and get in and make sure you’re studying. The coaches have high expectations of you, so each day in practice you have to go out and prove yourself, be consistent. One of the things Coach Harbaugh always talks about is not being an error-repeater, but to continue to improve and show progress.

  1. Ok, NFL just find Ndamukong Suh 100K for illegal block of a lineman and i am still waiting to here what is the fine for Clay Mathews!

  2. Just watched a replay of the Panthers vs. Seahawks game. They ejected a Panthers defensive lineman for slapping a Seahawk player in the helmet after the play. They obviously didn’t even flag Clay Matthews. If a Panther play gets ejected Matthews should be heavily fined and possibly suspended 1 game. It is ridiculous how little attention the NFL is giving to Matthews hitting Staley in the helmet and only acknowledging the late hit out of bounds. If Goodell does not punish him properly he will look like such a hypocrite.

    1. Clay Mathews DID get penalized. It was Staley’s involvement that got 49ers an offsetting penalty, even if not deserved, and made it appear nothing was done. The penalties offset one another.

      1. Are you serious Green? Clay was not penalized at all for his punches/slaps. The ref was right there and no additional flag and no ejection. What were you watching?

Further, to your point, Staley was wrongly flagged, so truly, there was absolutely no penalty to Mathews. Sure the down was played over, but it should have been first and goal at the 3 yard line.

  3. If Matthews receives anything less than 100,000 dollar fine and a one game suspension, Gödel will lose respect and credibility.

      1. Same here, Chi ..
I found the article you mentioned above ..
but I can’t find anything about any decision concerning Mathews ..

        What’s worse .. is ..
there isn’t anything out there even hinting
that the NFL is even considering any action against him …

Goodell is such a goober !

    1. Come on, now. It was an obviously illegal hit but it wasn’t that dangerous. I’m not sure punching Joe’s helmet was bad enough to be suspended. One hundred K? Seriously? Let’s keep our heads.

      1. doesn’t matter if the punch was dangerous or not…
I’m sure there is a rule in the NFL which sez..
“If you throw a punch at another player .. you’re gone from the game !”

(But .. I’m also sure they have it worded in a
        much more legal-eze fashion )

And face it, Wilson … Clay Mathews’s punch to Joe’s helmet certainly qualifies as something that would be in the spirit of that rule..

So .. the question is …
What is Goodell gonna do about it ..
        so far ? … not a darn thing !

This makes Goodell a goober !

    2. The NFL is said to be reviewing the matter. However, a large fine is unlikely. Clay Matthews doesn’t have a history of being fined. He’s been fined a total of 2 times in his career. 1 time for yellow shoes and the other a face mask penalty. Both fines were $5000. Don’t expect anything beyond $15,000.

  4. Guys, no worries about Matthews and the Packers. We own the Packers. They are in the rear view mirror. They did everything they could to beat us and still lost. We are in their heads. Don’t fine Matthews. Kap already did. I want this Seattle game more than any this regular season. I hate Seattle!!!!!

Don’t forget to have your picks in by Thursday night.

    1. I took 2nd place last year, so I was the first to lose. Not a good week, but you’ve got to take some chances to get ahead… or get spanked.

    2. Nice. The view is good from first place. I see you coming Jordo. What the hell happened to you Jack? Dart board and a blindfold?

      1. I’ve never tried to hide the fact I go by rocket and this moniker Nick. In fact the whole thing happened out in the open on a thread about a month ago. Try to keep up.

Who’s going to have the balls to take the Jets tomorrow? Nick? Jordan? Jack you need to take some risks already.

  7. I still need the five other members of Quest4Six to let me know which team is theirs so that I can post the results of Week One on this blog. So far I know which team belongs to Razoreater, Chess GM, Coffee for Closers, and NF_HAS. It would be appreciated if the other remaining members would leave which team they are associated with in the league on this thread. I hope to post the results before the end of tomorrow.

    1. MWN,

You should just post the results anyways and let them chime in after if they wont respond. Maybe a few are embarrassed by their scores! j/k

    2. My girl signed up, saw the draft order was situated with the signup order because the draft order was generated when only 2 people were on the team. She stopped playing so you can drop her. I’ll find out her screen name for you.

  8. @PFF: Colin Kaepernick’s Average depth of target Wk 1 was a league-leading 13.4 yards downfield. Alex Smith propped up the table at 4.9-

Well thats a fairly large difference.

      1. But he won, and that’s all that matters 23welcher. You think I forgot about you and your welching ways?
Winning is all that matters unless you are a stats guy or a loser. In that case, you are excused.

      2. FDM,
why being a douche? Jordans right. In fact, Dwayne Bowe is just now finding out that he won’t come close to being a 1000 receiver even though he’s the number one receiver on the team. They just played the worst team in football and Bowe had 30 yards. Welcome to Crabtrees old world….

      3. @Bay:

Let me see if I’ve got this right.

Repeat welcher who can’t let go of the past =\= douche
Guy who notes repeat welcher’s welching = douche

        Smh.

      4. Relax Bay, and why do you suddenly appear when 23welcher shows up?
Bowe will get his numbers and maybe you should watch more Chiefs games to see what Andy Reid is doing with that offense and specifically J. Charles. Its called using the talents of your personnel. They knew JKV could not stop the run or intermediate passing game, so they used it and it worked.

I never understood guys like you who thought that passing yards and receiving yards was the only true determination of good players or good teams. Stay away from the fantasy football blogs and go back and watch games in the early 70′s, 80′s and 90′s to see that balanced football offenses still work.

      5. Guys like FDM, Ribico, Prime, HoferFan, etc. will say that stats don’t matter. For that bunch, I have a question: do you think the 49ers would have won on Sunday with Alex Smith at QB?

      6. I saw the game. Same Alex. Not a pass in the air completed over 12 yards.

I saw the game too. As usual, you are full of crap. I’d ask you if you wanted to bet on your assertion, but it’s not like you would pay up.

      7. Claude keep in mind 23 watched the game from that “specaial all 22 camera” or whatever it was called from the endzone with a view of the whole field. You know the one 23 and Bay saw plays only they could see and results only they could witness.

      8. Im thankful that we have a real QB! One that can actually carry a exam when the defense is having a bad outing.

My mistake Claude , Smith almost completed a 20 yard pass, the cornerback dropped the interception. Right in his hands!

      9. Matt Ryan:25/38 304 2 TD’s-Lost!

        Flacco: 34/62 362 2 TD’s-Lost

23, all Alex does is win games. What would you rather have numbers or W’s?

      10. Prime,

I got Dallas for a week off the blog against your boy Alex? That’s right, you’ll lose and come back the next day! Haha!

      11. Either way you just answered my question, you prefer big passing numbers vs. wins. My advice, stick to fantasy football with your boy toy Bay hate. He runs in those circles as well.

      12. 23welcher:

Don’t get mad just because you were caught in yet another lie. Don’t you ever get tired of making stuff up? I know I get tired of reading your made up b/s.

By the way, you have shown repeatedly that you don’t know what a real QB looks like. Remember this gem?

Josh Johnson will be the 2nd string QB on this team. Kap is not the answer.

Which NFL teams are Nate Davis and Troy Smith playing for these days?

Yeah, you really know what you are talking about.

      13. >> I have a question: do you think the 49ers would have won on Sunday with Alex Smith at QB?

I have a couple of questions too. 1. Does your life revolve around hypotheticals? 2. Does anyone give a crap about the 49ers-Alex Smith drama any longer except you, Jordo, bay, md, MCS, ad nauseum?

      14. >>Bowe is just now finding out that he won’t come close to being a 1000 receiver even though he’s the number one receiver on the team. They just played the worst team in football and Bowe had 30 yards.

If Bowe is any kind of player other than a Dez Bryant diva headcase, he’ll thank his lucky stars he’s no longer on the worst team in football.

      15. Claude or anyone else with integrity on this blog, I have a question for you.

Who was the 1st person on this blog calling for Kaepernick to replace Smith??? Remember this phrase…. ” Warm up Kap!” After the Viking game last year.

Claude, you can’t help but to read my work. You like the education I’m giving you son!

      16. Prime,

If all Smith does is win games, why did all of his previous head coaches get fired? Why did JH bench is arse? Why did we trade the average Joe? Why was Reid dumb enough to give up a 2nd and a 3rd for him? Nd yes, it will be a 3rd rounder!

      17. 23fraud:

Who was the 1st person on this blog calling for Kaepernick to replace Smith???

I don’t know; was it the same guy who said last summer that the 49ers should trade Kaepernick because Josh Johnson had clearly beaten him out for the No.2 QB job?

        Rocket,

I thought you were a bit more football savvy than that. Teams don’t give players $500k signing bonuses as favors for the head coach. Johnson was signed because he can help this team win and he will. Can’t wait until preseason starts so he can outshine smith. Kap may as well be trade bait. He won’t be playing this year.

And you didn’t call for Kaepernick to replace Alex Smith because you recognized Kaep was a special talent; you called for him to replace Smith because you called for every backup QB to replace Smith, regardless of their actual talent, or lack thereof – Troy Smith, Nate Davis, Josh Johnson.

You like the education I’m giving you son!

If I want to learn how to lie, how to welch, or how to be a complete fraud, I will come to you, Son. You have a PhD in each of those fields, Bro.

But if I want to learn something about football, I won’t be asking you, Cuz. You think teams play prevent defense in the red zone. I’ll turn to someone who actually understands the game.

Are we done here, or do you want me to dig up some more examples of you being the fraud you are?

      18. Let’s try that again without the html error.

      19. I appreciate winning games with a killer D, smashmouth ground game, clutch ST, and 200 yards passing. I also appreciate winning with 400 yards in the air and anything else that goes along with contributing to the W. Considering the alternatives we’ve had to out up for the last decade, I just like winning.

I am not, unlike some here, going to whine about stype points or childishly post yardage stat comparisons between QB A vs QB B. The team with AS and Harbaugh won at a good clip but couldn’t get over the hump (if you consider a single season as a large enough sample size). The team with Kaep and Harbaugh won at a the same good clip but didn’t get over the hump either (if you consider a half season as a large enough sample size).

We’ve had a great team the last 2 years and have got all the pieces to be in place to be a great one going forward. So residual AS haters/Chiefs prognosticators, give a rest. Your continual blathering just make you look just as assinine (extra s for stupid) as you have the last 2 years.

      20. >>If all Smith does is win games, why did all of his previous head coaches get fired?

The fact that none of those head coaches have been rehired should give even someone as dense as you an indication as to where the issue lay.

      21. F’

Naah, he did that to himself. His continuing inability to comprehend that his past comments can still be found never ceases to amaze me. Some people just refuse to learn.

      22. Claude,

You follow me around like my pet dog. I like that. Do you remember me telling you to leve the blog and go to Kansas City with Alex? Find that one. You need a life. Can you do some research for me. Find the 1st post I ever put on this blog. Can’t remember what it was but Im sure you could find it. I need that tonight son!

  9. As I posted after the 2nd Pre-season game when we all had a chance to take a look at BJ at QB that if for no other reason the 49ers had to keep him on the roster to prepare for the 2 games against the Seahawks. He DOES have “attributes” (DJS425) that are very similar to Wilson.

BJ could be the difference this time around & if he is……. You cannot put a True Value on that.

  10. Overall the 49ers struggled running the ball on Sunday, but the key was they stuck with it, and in the 4th quarter they got some big runs to seal the win.

      1. Thanks for the link Claude. A lot of what we saw Green Bay do on Sunday goes right along with everything we heard over the last week or so regarding how they wanted to attack the run. What I really liked about Roman’s playcalling on Sunday is that he stuck with it, and when the game was on the line and they were down by 4 it was the running game that gave them the lead with some big runs at the end of that drive.

      2. Jack:

Do you think that Roman was late in adjusting the run calls to take advantage of GB crashing their ends/LBs into the backfield?

      3. Good points. Roman did stick with it and kept a balance which kept the defense off guard. I think Roman did call a couple of outside runs Claude but they were stopped for a loss early on. They seemed to have more success with it late when they ran to the right. Iupati had a so so day from what I saw. He needs to be better than that this week.

      4. Not really Claude. They just stuck with it, and finally hit it. Early on they had some runs that were stuffed for losses that really hurt their overall numbers, but at the same time they had a lot that gave them postitive yardage. I think we are all so used to seeing the 49ers gauge out 5+ yards a pop that when they are having to grind it out for 1, 2, 3 yards we are surprised and wonder, “what is their problem”.

    1. Johnny Jolly came out of prison and solidified the D tackle spot for the packers. He and Raji are hard to move. They were comitted to stopping the run but the middle of the field was wide open. We will run with success against Seattle. Carolina did well running the ball. If Williams doesnt fumble twice, Carolina wins that game.

    1. They should be, especially this one. Their whole outlook on this season was depending in Sundays game. Kind of like when we played Dallas in 81 and 94. It was a measuring stick. And they out out their best effort and still came up short. Believe that, that was their best defensive effort since they win it all a couple of years back. Like Seattle this Sunday night, GB needed that win more than our team did. We officially own GB now. And I’m feeling great about it.

    1. Good stuff Jack, but you’re showing your age in your reference to Brandon “Don’t call me Joey” Browner. Joey retired quite a few years ago.

  11. Seahawks S Earl Thomas on Anquan Boldin: “He has the ability to push little corners around and get open.”

Translation: He can’t do it again with us.

      1. Not usually Razor. Walter Thurmond is the Seahawks slot corner, and he is the shortest of Seattle’s top 3 corners at 5’11″.

      1. Hoping Browner doesn’t play, or at least is limited by his hammy. That would leave Thomas on VD and Sherman on Boldin. Not great matchups for us. But McDonald/Patton/Williams may have advantages over their counterparts.

  12. PFT reports that Brandon Jacobs, re-signed in desperation by Coughlin, is trying to be relevant again by telling the NY press the Niners were “scared” to cut him. OK, practical and pragmatic in not letting him sign elsewhere for the PlayOffs, but scared of a guy who couldn’t make the active roster? Child, please! It was also a way of sticking it to Jacobs for being a selfish Db. Where were you for the PlayOffs, Brandon? Eating wings and poppers and drinking beer; he was up to 295lbs this off season. smh
